MACROSTIE CHARDONNAY  2004
Carneros

The Carnenos region at the north end of San Francisco Bay is now almost universally-recognized as one of the finest places to grow Chardonnay in California. Here the cooler temperatures allow the fruit to ripen slower and the long growing season lets the fruit gain complexity. Established in 1987, MacRostie Winery aims for a fruit-forward, but almost Burgundian balance in the finished wine. Ageable for 3-5 years, or enjoyable now with rich seafood.

Château Lamothe de Haux provides an exceptional opportunity to discover the under appreciated world of Bordeaux blanc. They are one of the few producers to consistently use all three of the allowable grapes: Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Lamothe de Haux aims for bright, crisp fruitness with a long, palate refreshing finish. Be warned, though: over-chilling this wine will neutralize all the wonderful subtleties coming out of the glass. Give it no more than two hours in a fridge before enjoying.
