HILLEBRAND 'TRIUS' VIDAL ICEWINE 2004
VQA Niagara Peninsula
Tasting Note: For several years now Hillebrand has barrel-aged its vidal icewine, adding spicy, buttery and caramel notes that render it something like Sauternes. CARPINETO 'FARNITO' CABERNET SAUVIGNON 1999
IGT Toscana
Tasting Note: Although the aromas carry more than a hint of bell pepper, this green element takes a back seat on the palate to rich currant and earth flavors and just a hint of toasty oak. "We're in the ripe fruit business, not the lumber business," jokes [winemaker] Zaccheo. Firmly structured, with good grip on the finish. Drink 2005-2010. Score - 89. (Wine Enthusiast, Nov. 2003)

MONTE ZOVO 'CA'LINVERNO' 2001
IGT Rosso Veronese
For this wine, the producer adds a touch of Cabernet and Croatina to the local Corvina and Rondinella. Since the first two grapes are not allowed under the Veneto DOC system, the producer released the wine under the IGT (Indicazione geografica tipica) designation.
Tasting Note: It reminds us of a big ripasso wine. The aromas suggest sweet cherry, raisin and toasty oak. On the palate it is dry, rich, ripe and round. Full-bodied with a long, lingering, fruit-driven finish. Enjoy it now until 2007 with barbecued backribs. (VINTAGES panel, Sept. 2005)

HUPFELD RIESLING KABINETT HALBTROCKEN 2004
QmP, Hochheimer Königin Victoriaberg, Estate Btld.
Savvy producers have recognized the importance of 'brand name' for a lot longer that we know. In 1845, when the British Royal Family visited the village of Hochheim, the owner of this property invited them to come and try his wines. As the story goes, the Queen was most 'amused'. Over the next five years, subsequent vintages of these wines were sent to the England for the Queen's enjoyment. In 1850, she gave her blessing for the vineyard to be renamed Hochheimer Königin Victoriaberg. To this day, whenever the British Royal Family visits Germany, they are served the wines from this property. On May 24th, enjoy this fruity and balanced libation as a sipping and toasting wine on Queen Victoria's 187th birthday.

JERUZALEM ORMOZ RENSKI RIZLING 2004
Ormoz-Ljutomer
Renski Rizling is the Slovenian name for Riesling. Because of the warm climate, Slovenian Rieslings tend to be more intensely aromatic and slightly lower in acid than most German versions of the grape. In fact, they are more like Austrian Rieslings. The Podravje area, where the Ormoz-Ljutomer vinegrowing region can be found, is one of the best places to grow Riesling in Slovenia. The producer recommends enjoying this Riesling with grilled white fish, subtle pork and veal dishes or goose liver.
