Liqueur
MARNIER-LAPOSTOLLE 'CHERRY MARNIER' LIQUEUR
France

Marnier-Lapostolle use the Morello cherry to make this liqueur because of its exceptional aroma. To create the liqueur, they blend together the macerated cherry juice, the marc and sugar syrup. The ingredients are allowed to marry for several months in vats and the finished product has a ripe, round, and delicious sweet cherry flavour and aroma. Enjoy with cherry cheesecake or as a dessert by itself.

POLI AMARO
Italy
(Poli Distillerie)

Each company that produces an Amaro bitters keeps the recipe a well-guarded secret. No one wants their precise combination of herbs, spices, fruits, etc. to fall into a competitor's hands. Poli is no exception. This Amaro is best enjoyed as an after dinner digestif, especially following the generous meals we enjoy this time of year.

Sherry
CROFT 'ORIGINAL' FINE PALE CREAM SHERRY
(Gonzales Byass & Co.)

This smooth and luxurious Cream Sherry is actually a sweetened Fino. It should be served chilled in a wine glass. It makes for a memorable alternative to traditional dessert wines and matches beautifully with lemon tart, light holiday puddings and fresh fruit salads.

DEL PRINCIPE AMONTILLADO MUY VIEJO
(Marqués del Real Tesoro)

Tasting Note: Medium brown/orange colour with aromas of chocolate cherry, chocolate fig and almond paste. Medium in sweetness, ripe yet crisp with exceptional mouthfeel and superior aroma replays. This is a stellar sherry that should be enjoyed lightly chilled on its own when in a contemplative mood. Full-bodied with a very long and balanced finish.  (David Churchill, VINTAGES, Oct. 2004)

Port
DOW'S COLHEITA PORT  1992
Btld. 2005
(Symington Family Estates)

Like Vintage Port, Colheita Port is from a single vintage, but stylistically, they are essentially Tawny Ports from a single year. As a result of extended oak ageing (minimum 7 years), Colheita Ports are generally ready-to-drink the moment they are bottled.

Champagne & Sparkling Wine - November 11 Release
Champagne
CATTIER BRUT 'CHIGNY-LES-ROSES' PREMIER CRU CHAMPAGNE
AC

Also available in 1500 mL and 375 mL.

Tasting Note: Aromas of citrus peel, dried cherry and creamy tea biscuit. Clean and spicy with good fruit depth and some finesse in its structure. Its power isn't obvious but the lemon, dried fruit and spice flavours last a long time on the finish. Drink on its own or serve with a range of appetizers at parties.  Score - 89.  (Jeff Davis, Wine Access, 'First In Line E-Report', Sept. 2005)

919464    (D)   750 mL    $39.95

DEUTZ BRUT 'CLASSIC' CHAMPAGNE
AC

Tasting Note: Consistently a top scorer. It always has a relatively high proportion of reserve wine, and with extra ageing this gives increased depth, richness and complexity. A delightful, creamy-textured, wonderfully moreish fizz, drinking very well.  Score - ***** (out of 5).  (Decanter, Aug. 2005)

710038    (XD)   750 mL    $46.95

LAURENT-PERRIER BRUT CHAMPAGNE
AC

Tasting Note: Deep aromas of citrus skin, smoke, minerals and spices, with a saline complexity. Ripe on entry, then dense and concentrated but pliant and very smooth. Leads with its strong, clear fruit tones of orange sorbet and lemon. Very ripe, accessible, well-balanced Champagne with excellent lingering fruit. In my tastings in recent years, this has consistently been among the best non-vintage brut bottlings from the major Champagne houses.  Score - 90. CEV 'LILY' SPARKLING WINE
VQA Ontario, Méthode Cuve Close
(Colio Estate)

ROEDERER ESTATE ANDERSON VALLEY BRUT ROSÉ
Estate Btld.
California

Tasting Note: : Energetic, cherryish fruit is the unquestioned star of this solid sparkling Rose, and it is graced by touches of autolyzed yeast that remain in the background. Fully frothy, firmly balanced and edging to crispness as it crosses the palate, it ends with a nice snap of fresh-berry acidity, and it will be right home at warm- weather al fresco luncheons.  Score - 90.  (Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine, Dec., 2005)

479758    (XD)   750 mL    $32.95

BANROCK STATION SPARKLING SHIRAZ
'Southeastern' Australia

Tasting Note: Sparkling Shiraz, so cruelly denigrated by some wine-lovers who ought to know better, is an Australian heritage wine. It might look like a novelty seeking a niche, but it's been around for more than a hundred years. This well-priced version is chock full of dark berry and tree fruit, with spicy and peppery notes. The bubbles cut the fruit sweetness and it makes a fine sipping wine or a partner to blackberry pie or tart, as long as you hold back on the sugar.  Score - **** (out of 5).  (Rod Phillips, www.winecurrent.com, Oct. 15 2005)

971507    (D)   750 mL    $13.95

FREIXENET 'BRUT' VINTAGE CAVA  2003

Intense and fresh nose combines honey and sweet fruit with a few floral overtones. Expect an attractive blend of peach, honey and lemon sorbet flavours balanced on a cord of racy acidity. Well balanced with a long fruity finish. Drink 2006-2011.  Score - 90.  (Jeff Davis, Wine Access, 'First In Line E-Report, Dec. 10, 2005)

CHATEAU ST. JEAN 'SONOMA' CHARDONNAY  2004

Tasting Note: ... My first whiff, in fact, reminded me of walking through a winery cellar lined with expensive oak barrels. [.] Anyway, the flavors are citrus, white peaches and green apples, surrounded by smoke and butter, backed by good acidity and balance. [.] I like a Chardonnay that has the fruit to match up with really good wood .  (Sandra Silfven, The Detroit News, "The Wine Report", Sept. 14, 2005)

LANDMARK 'OVERLOOK' CHARDONNAY  2004
Sonoma County/Monterey County/ Santa Barbara County

Also available in 375 mL.

Tasting Note: Although the grape sourcing on Overlook has changed, the wine's price has barely nudged over the years, and it still shows the polish and zest of all Landmark's Chardonnays. It's a wonderfully rich wine, finely balanced and rewarding.  Score - 91.  (Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast, May 1, 2006)

The perfect wine to enjoy while watching an episode of Prison Break. Also available in 375 mL.

Tasting Note: The 2004 Ca' del Solo Big House California Red combines grapes such as Carignane, Sangiovese, Italian-style Montepulciano and a Portuguese variety named Touriga Nacional into a jammy, spicy wine with real stuffing. This unique duo of Stelvin-topped Ca' del Solo blends is such a riot to drink, you might think they'd be outlawed.  (Leslie Sbrocco, San Francisco Chronicle, March 23, 2006)

CLINE 'LOS CARNEROS' SYRAH  2003
Carneros

Tasting Note: Very high in ripeness for a cool area Syrah, this one nonetheless captures the bright blackberry fruit that its provenance suggests and combines that fruit with smoky and white pepper nuances of the variety. It is full on the palate and balanced by both ample acids and by a firming streak of youthfully grippy tannins that add muscle in support of the wine's sweet fruit. Attractive now with a broiled steak or hearty stew, this one will round out and soften with time in bottle.  Score - 89.  (Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine, Nov. 2005)
