The Cutty Sark blend is made up of around twenty renowned single
whiskies [including The Glenrothes], predominantly from the Speyside region
in Scotland, which are blended with high quality grain whiskies. These
single malt and single grain whiskies are matured in carefully selected
American oak casks. The malts are blended together, as are the grains,
before the complete blend is “married” together for a further six months. (www.cutty-sark.com)

COLHEITA PORT 1985

BON CLIMAT PINOT NOIR 2005
Santa Barbara County
(Jim Clendenen)
Tasting Note: It is a sexy little wine ... On the nose, the wine is
a pleasure with bright freshly crushed red fruits, especially cherries,
strawberries and red currants, as well as red beets, stone fruit sorbet,
chalky minerals and hints of herbs. In the mouth, the wine shows great
voluptuousness for a pinot-based bottling, with forward crushed red cherries,
strawberry compote and stewed red plums. ... It should drink well now and
continue to develop nicely through 2010. (Gil Lempert-Schwarz, www.reviewjournal.com, “Wine

Kenwood prides itself on this consistent award winning Zin which they
have produced since first opening their doors in 1970. It's a straight-shooting

dishes from roast of pork to pasta in a rich tomato sauce. An excellent
value, it's a good place to start if you are new to Zinfandel.

SCREW
KAPPA NAPA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2004
Napa Valley
(3 Loose Screws)
After turning over the reins of the Sebastiani Vineyards to his sister,
Don Sebastiani and his two sons established a maverick négociant
business known for producing wines with quirky names and alternative closures.
Screw Kappa Napa has had spectacular success largely because the quality
of the wine in the bottle has made as much as an impression as the catchy
name. This classic Cab offers aromas of raspberries, cocoa and coffee
with some oak nuances. It's dry, full-bodied with round fruit flavour,
creamy vanilla and oak spice, leading to a long finish. It's a terrific
Value for Napa Cab!

SHAFER
CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2003
Napa Valley
Tasting Note: Mild but very evident top notes of loam and woodsy spice
lend a touch of complexity to the solid, patently varietal aromas of black
currants and cherries, and the same character shows up in this wine's moderately
deep and well-formed young flavors. A bit ripe in bias, yet mostly defined
by its fruit, the wine is supple and plush on the palate with fairly soft
tannins providing a fine and flexible spine. We see it improving for three
to five years, but it would be hard to persuasively argue against enjoying
it considerably sooner. Score - 91. (Connoisseurs'

only 5% new. Fresh and lively, this crisp wine is bursting with tangy
cherry and berry flavours. Enjoy with salmon steaks.

ALAMOS
CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2005
Mendoza
Tasting Note: This impressive, broad shouldered bottle contains 100%
Cabernet Sauvignon, which has a bold, glossy, blackcurrant richness of
fruit, with some plummy notes and a sheen of classy oak, that is all very
nicely composed. On the palate this has a nice balance between sweet-edged,
very ripe and creamy blackcurrant fruit and a fine, cedary oak character.
There's an edge to this wine, with a liquorice or bittersweet plum-skin
grip, with sinewy tannins and a fine core of acidity to freshen the finish.
This is drinking very nicely already, and is very good indeed. (Tom
Cannavan, www.wine-pages.com, Aug. 2006)

DOWIE
DOOLE CHENIN BLANC 2005

Tasting Note: The Hooley Dooley team virtually owns Chenin Blanc now:
they're the masters, and this is their best one yet. A little less podgy
than the 04, the 05 reeks of healthy meadow grasses as much as the usual
slightly waxy honeydew melon. The palate's alive: svelte and cleansing,
with that beautiful whiprod of natural acid that sets all the glands a-flow.

moderate alcohol (14%) for such a flavorful, rich Barossa Shiraz. It should

ASTROLABE
SAUVIGNON BLANC 2005
Beacon Hill, Marlborough, South Island
The winery takes its name from what many consider to be the very first
astronomical computer (its principles were first determined more than
2000 years ago). It was used to solve problems relating to time and the
position of the Sun and stars in the sky. For example, in medieval times,
an astrolabe could be used to determine the time of sunrise and sunset.

The Xinomavro and Negoska grapes for this wine were grown on a 6.6 hectare

GIACOMO
ASCHERI BAROLO VIGNA DEI POLA 2001
DOCG
Ascheri has found a beautiful compromise between the traditional school
of long ageing in mature, large vats and the more modern techniques of
using new oak barrels. They age the wines in a combination of both. After
spending 4 months in stainless steel, the wines are then matured for 20
months in a 50/50 combination of seasoned and new Slavonian barrels. The
final blend is allowed to meld for a further 10 months in steel and then
10 months in bottle. The resulting wine shows dried cherry, leather and
plum aromas. On the palate it is dry with firm tannins surrounding the
fruit. Give this 5-10 years in a cellar.

POGGIO
SALVI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2000
DOCG
Tasting Note: Offers an attractive and smoky bouquet, which might
indicate that it has the fullness and depth to run long. However, it's
fairly compact and juicy on the palate, with cherry, berry and vanilla
in control. On the money, if a bit tannic. Ageworthy, too. Score
- 90. (Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, July
1, 2005)

TRIACCA
LA PALAIA CHIANTI CLASSICO 2003
DOCG
(La Madonnina)
Tasting Note: Unfurls a textbook nose, dense and confident, of ripe
cherry and dried plum. It builds to considerable power following a broad,
juicy attack, and fleshy tannins contribute to decent texture. A medium-long
finish shows it to be savoury enough. Score - Two Glasses
(out of 3). (Gambero Rosso Italian Wine Guide 2006)

CANTINA
VALPANTENA AMA-PASSO 2004

Tasting Note: Clearly made using a Ripasso technique, the medium-deep
ruby colour leads to a very impressive nose of licorice, blueberry, blackberry
crème and new leather. It is extremely impressive on the palate.
Dry, rich and ripe with excellent core of tannins and acids for optimum
balance. This is a full-bodied, very long finishing, well-balanced wine.
Put it in a cellar for 3+ years, or enjoy it tonight with a lamb dish of
your choice. (David Churchill, VINTAGES, Jan. 2007)

MASIES
D'AVINYÓ ABADAL 3.9 RESERVA 2000
DO Pla de Bages
The 3.9 refers to the parcels or vineyard locations of the Cabernet
Sauvignon and Syrah used for the wine. The 3 is for Cab; the 9 is for
the Syrah. These are the winery's finest parcels of grapes, thus they
designated the wine Reserva 3.9.
Tasting Note: A single vineyard blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and
15% Syrah, the deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 Abadal Reserva 3.9 offers
scents of camphor, spice box, cedar, herbs, black currants, and toast.
With superb fruit, medium to full body, and a succulent, lush texture,
it will drink well for 5-8 years. Score - 90. (Robert
