CROFT ORIGINAL FINE PALE CREAM SHERRY
(Gonzalez Byass)

This smooth and luxurious cream sherry is actually a sweetened fino. It should be served chilled in a wine glass. It makes for a memorable alternative to traditional dessert wines and matches beautifully with lemon tart, light holiday puddings and fresh fruit salads.

TASTING NOTE: Terrific value in a refreshing and tasty fino that delivers depth and length beyond its price. Classic aromas of dried apple, nut, lemon-lime and floral notes. Mid-weight with good fruit and nut interplay with racy acidity. Very good length. Serve as an apéritif with olives, nuts or cheese. Score - 89. Btld. 2004
(Sogrape)

Aged for four years in barrel before bottling, Ferreira's Late Bottled Vintage Port does not require decanting prior to enjoyment.   FONSECA BIN 27 RESERVE PORT
 (Fonseca Guimaraens Vinhos)

TASTING NOTE: One of the big brands in Reserve Ports, Bin 27 is long and well established. So it's good to report that it is great wine, with sweetness and balancing acidity and fruit. Soft and juicy it is ready to drink, but there are structure and flavors of dried raisins to give it some aging potential
Score - 88. (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, March 1, 2005)

WARRE'S COLHEITA SINGLE YEAR TAWNY PORT 1986
Btld. 2007
(Symington Family Estates)

Coheita Ports are Tawnies from a single year that have been matured in wood for at least seven years. In this case, it spent 21 years in wood before bottling. This mature, ready-to-drink Port requires no decanting as the sediment would have been shed in cask before bottling. The nose is intense with aromas of dried fruit, nuts and vanilla dominating. On the palate, it is sweet, nutty, round and smooth. An ideal match for aromatically rich cheeses.

  WARRE'S FINE WHITE PORT
 (Symington Family Estates)

To make their white Port, Warre's uses traditional white varieties from the Douro Valley: Arinto, for its acidity; Códega, for its liveliness; Malvasia Fina, for its aromatics and acidity; Rabigato, for its weight and alcohol; and, lastly, Viosinho for its freshness. Traditionally enjoyed as a chilled tall drink with tonic and a slice of lemon, it is also excellent on its own with dried fruit or simple desserts.

TOASTED HEAD CHARDONNAY (V)

(Prod. & Btld. R.H. Phillips)

The name Toasted Head refers to the barrels this wine is aged in. Usually, only the barrel walls are charred, but in this case the heads are toasted too. This adds a richer, toastier character to the wine. There is a good balance of tropical fruit flavours to the obvious toast and vanilla characteristics. Full-bodied with a medium long finish, it's perfect with roast pork with apples or poached salmon.

Costières de Nîmes is located in the far eastern section of Languedoc. In fact, it is also very close to the Southern Rhône so, stylistically, the wines tend to have the ripe fruit of the Midi and the structure one typically finds in the Rhône. This wine is a blend of, principally, Syrah and Grenache. It shows ripe fruit tones with a cedary structure for ageing. Enjoy it now with grilled steak and onions or age it up to 3 years.

Foja Tonda is a near-extinct Italian grape variety that was saved by the enthusiasm of one producer, namely Albino Armani. In Armani's capable hands, it produces a deeply coloured, delicately aromatic wine with fine extract and a good layer of tannin. Enjoy with grilled meats, such as lamb, beef or game.

SA' SOLIN RIPASSO DELLA VALPOLICELLA 2004
DOC

TASTING NOTE: If you haven't tried an Italian red recently, this will show you the way back. It has lovely sweet fruit (cherry, berries) with moderate complexity that's forward but complex. It's very well balanced, medium bodied, and lightly tannic, and it goes nicely with anything from pizza to burgers, from veal to lamb.
Score - **** 1/2 (out of 5). (Rod Phillips, www.winecurrent.com, Aug. 18, 2007)

TEDESCHI CAPITEL DEI NICALO VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO SUPERIORE 2005
DOC

To intensify the flavours of this wine, the grapes are picked fully ripe then allowed to dry on mats for about one month prior to pressing. This apassimento process results in wines that are more flavourful and richer than the standard Valpolicella. Enjoy with duck, goose or braised lamb dishes.

TOMMASI VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO SUPERIORE RIPASSO 2005
DOC

Tommasi's Ripasso is the unique result of refermenting its Valpolicella Classico Superiore wines on the warm dried grape skins from which their Amarone is pressed. This process imparts a heightened richness of character and intensity of flavour to the finished product. Expect rich plum fruit surrounded by sweet herbs and a hint of dark chocolate. This flavourful wine is an excellent match for braised ox tails, rich stews or pasta with meat sauce.

A blend of Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz (a.k.a. Tempranillo) and Touriga Nacional, Quinta da Falorca Vinho Tinto is the perfect personification of the Portuguese style: forward fruit backed up by a good core of acid and moderate tannins. Age it 3-5 years, or enjoy it tonight with braised beef dishes.

BERONIA RESERVA 2001
DOC Rioja

Beronia adds 5 and 6%, respectively, of the aromatic Graciano and the structure-providing Mazuelo (a.k.a. Carignan) to their Tempranillo to give it a rich fruitiness and added balance. The resulting wine shows aromas of red cherry, vanilla, berries and hints of spice. It is quite fruity and is ready-to-drink with roast beef and root vegetables, but will also reward a further 1-2 years in a cellar.

  BODEGAS CASTAÑO HÉCULA 2005
DO Yecla

TASTING NOTE: Inky violet. Deep cherry and cassis aromas complicated by an array of floral, mineral and herbal nuances. Powerful dark fruit flavors are firmed by solid tannins and lifted by gentle minerality. Picks up smoked meat and anise notes on the long, chewy finish. This could be a Bandol. Is the average buyer at this price point ready for this? Another amazing value. Score - 90. (Josh Raynolds, International Wine Cellar, Sept./Oct. 2007)
