parts: the rainy coastal section to the west of the towering Cascade Mountain
range, and an interior desert in the rain shadow east of the mountains. The
latter is where most of the wine is grown. The warm, sunny desert climate
allows the region’s 800 wineries to grow over 40 different grape varieties.
