UNCORK SOMETHING GREAT • SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2017

WILLIAM FÈVRE MONTMAINS

CHABLIS 1

ER

CRU 2014

AC

TASTING NOTE: Pale lemon-green ... Suave and silky

but very backward on the palate, conveying terrific

limey lift to the highly concentrated flavors of dusty

stone, menthol and metallic minerality. In a distinctly

cool style and quite reduced today, this wine will need

a few years in the bottle, or extended aeration, to

showmore precision and complexity. Tangy and brisk

on the aftertaste. Drinking window: 2019-2026.

SANCERRE 2016

AC

TASTING NOTE: Silver Medal winner at the 2017

Concours Général Agricole in Paris, this is a juicy,

sour-edged Sauvignon Blanc showing notes of

sweetgrass, asparagus, pear, green apple and a

saline mineral character. It’s beautifully fresh and

cleansing on the palate, with laser beam acidity.

Savour now through 2020 with herbed chicken,

green salads and goat cheese. (Vintages panel,

THIERRY DELAUNAY TOURAINE

SAUVIGNON BLANC 2016

AP

TASTING NOTE: Fresh and inviting, with a nice mix of

citrus, gooseberry and minerals all taking shape in

this vivid Sauvignon Blanc. On the palate this is clean

and vibrant with exotic tropical fruits and lime accents

leading into the fresh finish. Overall, this is a lovely

Sauvignon, which will be ready to drink upon release.

Drinking Window: 2017-2018. Score:

PINOT GRIS 2015

AC Alsace

TASTING NOTE: The Gisselbrecht family has pro-

duced wines in Alsace since the 17th century. This

off-dry Pinot Gris serves up pretty notions of white

peach, yellow plum, grated parsnip and candied

grapefruit with a slightly nutty note and a citrus-zesty

finish. Enjoy now through 2025 with ginger pork.

BURGUNDY

CAVE DE VIRÉ GRANDE RÉSERVE

VIRÉ-CLESSÉ 2015

AP

TASTING NOTE: This fresh and inviting Chardonnay

comes from marl and limestone soils in the Viré

Clessé appellation. This begins to open with aromas

of lemon oil and orchard fruit woven together with

minerals, white floral and orange zest nuances. This

possesses a lovely elegant character and remains

clean, focused and nicely balanced through the finish.

This Chardonnay is very pretty right now [and] should

continue to showwell over the next fewyears. Drinking

Window: 2017-2020. Score:

MONT CHAUVE EN PIMONT

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 2012

AC

TASTING NOTE: This is a rich, rounded and

concentrated wine. Good structure comes both from

the wood aging and from the acidity of the apple and

apricot fruits. Developing slowly, it will become an

impressive, ripe wine. Drink from 2018. The grapes

come from the highest vineyard in Chassagne, just

under the woods. Editors’ Choice. Score:

91
