UNCORK SOMETHING GREAT • SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2017

MARCO & VITTORIO ADRIANO

BASARIN BARBARESCO 2012

DOCG

TASTING NOTE: Sweet strawberry, cherry and

currant fruit weaves throughout this elegant, intense

Barbaresco. The structure is assertive, yet this

stays fresh and vibrant on the long finish. Floral and

leafy underbrush notes add depth. Best from 2018

through 2030. Highly Recommended. Score:

PRUNOTTO BARBERA D’ALBA 2016

DOC

TASTING NOTE: The historic house of Prunotto is

located in Alba, the most important city of the Langhe

district of Piedmont. Its grounds are equidistant

from both Barbaresco and Barolo, on rolling plains

surrounded by the vineyards of both the Langhe and

Roero areas. This is an effortlessly elegant, supple

wine brimming with bright berry fruit, fresh flowers,

earth and cedar notes along with hints of spice. Pour

with charcuterie and cheeses, or meaty pastas.

PUGLIA

12 E MEZZO PRIMITIVO DEL

SALENTO 2015

IGP Primitivo del Salento

(Varvaglione)

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Primitivo 12 e Mezzo is a

great value proposition with a few creative twists. The

wine is aged in American oak for up to six months

and the sweet overtones of those spice and smokey

aromas are well suited to the fleshy richness of the

grape. The trouble-free 2015 vintage has shaped a

wine that is balanced, dark and loaded with sweet

berry flavors. You really can’t ask for more at this

affordable price. Drink date: 2016-2019. Score:

VENEZIE

TOMMASI LE ROSSE PINOT GRIGIO 2016

IGT Delle Venezie

TASTING NOTE: Despite 8 g/l of sugar, this is still

quite nervous and vibrant, with solid fruit and definition,

some carbon dioxide to liven up the flavours, a fresh

finish and a little spice. Very well done, especially at

this price. Score:

FONTANAFREDDA BAROLO

RISERVA 2007

DOCG

TASTING NOTE: The 2007 Barolo Riserva Tenimenti

Fontanafredda is a stunning wine that shows impres-

sive momentum and weight. The wine sites firmly on

the palate, imparting deep layers of black fruit, spice

and smoke all the while. At its core, however, this

gorgeous wine is laced with delicate licorice, hummus

and menthol tones. It drinks well already, with a

super-elegant and tight mouthfeel, but will greatly

benefit from more time in the bottle. Anticipated

maturity: 2015-2025. Score:

95

GIACOSA BUSSIA BAROLO 2011

DOCG

TASTING NOTE: The nose is still a bit closed but

eventually reveals aromas of dark berry, leafy

underbrush, baked earth and tobacco. On the firm

palate, notes of licorice, grilled herbs and black

pepper add depth to the black cherry core. Bracing

but refined tannins hold it all together. Score:
