MASI CAMPOLONGO DI TORBE AMARONE

DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2011

DOCG

In the 1950s, Masi was a pioneer in establishing the

cru, or “single vineyard,” concept in Italy. Campolongo

di Torbe is Masi’s elegant cru version of Amarone. The

grapes come from the eponymous vineyard, which

has been noted for its quality since the 12th century.

Grapes are left to dry naturally in traditional drying

lofts during the cold winter months, resulting in a wine

with layers of fresh and dried berry fruit, almond

notes, smooth texture, great intensity and balance.

REMO FARINA RIPASSO VALPOLICELLA

CLASSICO SUPERIORE 2015

DOC

TASTING NOTE: Juicy, robust and vibrant Italian

red wine: a terrific wine especially at this price point.

Aromas of black fleshy ripe blackberries, black

plums and some dark spice. Almost reminds me of

Californian Zinfandel but with a darker undertone.

Perfect for grilled meats and barbecue. Drink:

REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

– REDWINE

BOVIN VENUS 2015

Tikves Wine Region

TASTING NOTE: A lush and juicy blend with two

grape varieties that complement each other well.

Pours a lovely purplish hue that is quite opaque.

Fleshy and accessible, with notes of both red and

black fruit. Fruit takes center stage. Modern and

widely appealing with notes of red apple and purple

plum, flavours often found in the indigenous vranec

grape varietal. Just a touch reductive so aerate when

opening for optimum enjoyment. Dry, good acidic

structure, pure, revealing and full-bodied. Tasted

INDIVIDO FETEASCA NEAGRA 2016

(Château Vartely)

TASTING NOTE: Located between Romania and

Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova can trace its

winemaking history back more than 4,000 years. The

Fetească Neagră grape, which is thought to have its

origins in what is now that very country, is known for

rich textures, wild berry and currant flavours and

spice notes. Pour this one with meat stews, or spiced

meatballs and creamy cornmeal polenta.

NORTICO ALVARINHO 2016

Vinho Regional Minho

TASTING NOTE: Nortico is from tiny “garden” vine-

yard plots in Monção e Melgaço, a subregion located

on the south bank of the Minho River, on the north-

ern border with Spain’s Galicia province. This is a

crisp, zippy wine showing notes of grapefruit, lemon

zest, white peach, spring flowers and fresh chives.

Stunning value. Enjoy it tonight with seafood or lentil

salad. (Vintages panel, Sept. 2017)
