THE ROMANCE OF FRANCE & RESPITE IS SERVED

PRODUCT & TASTING NOTES

FRANCE

– REDWINE

BORDEAUX

CHÂTEAU BARDE-HAUT 2006

AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

This wine, a blend of 80%Merlot and 20%

Cab Franc, has matured and taken on layers of

dried and preserved fruit characters in the

years since Parker’s review, and is now at its

peak drinking time.

TASTING NOTE: This richly fruity, disarmingly

charming 2006 exhibits a deep ruby/purple

hue in addition to elegant black currant and

blackberry fruit intermixed with licorice and

underbrush, a plush texture, sweet tannin, and

a layered finish. This is a hedonistic wine to

enjoy over the next decade. Drink date:

2009-2019. Score:

89

CHÂTEAU LA GARDE 2010

AC

TASTING NOTE: Licorice and dried orange

peel in the nose. Red tangy fruit and some

leather. Nice sweet fruit and velvety texture on

the palate with beautifully managed soft fine

tannins. Very enjoyable and harmonious wine

already now. Made from biodynamic grapes.

Better after 2016. Score:

93

CRU 2001

AC

(Nicolas Potel, négociant)

TASTING NOTE: Potel finds gold in Gevrey-

Chambertin with this extraordinary Petit

Chapelle Premier Cru barrel. There is a level of

ripeness and extraction that exceeds most of

the rest in this magnificent négoce line-up and

an aromatic sweetness sans apareil. Really fine

and grainy tannins, more sweetness feigned

and ropey fruit reigned in and fully completely

surrounded. The tough partners have yet to

relent. That and the whole distinction is nothing

short of amazing. Drink 2017-2025. Tasted

CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015

AC

The blend here is 30% Grenache, 30%

Mourvèdre, 10% Counoise, 10% Syrah,

5% Cinsault and 5% other varieties.

TASTINGNOTE: Brilliant ruby. Spice-accented

aromas of ripe red fruits, candied flowers, earth

and smoky minerals; a zesty white pepper

quality emergeswith aeration. Sweet, expansive

and energetic on the palate, offering intense

raspberry, spicecake and lavender flavors and

a subtle touch of smoke. Completely stains

the palate and shows outstanding clarity on the

strikingly long, focused finish, where smooth

tannins make a late appearance. Score:

93-95
