TASTING NOTE: 100% Chardonnay. Seriously classy

sparkling wine offering harmonious complexity in

its aromas of white flowers, yellow apple, citrus and

stone fruits and toasty, buttered brioche. Refreshing

acidity complements the ripe, expansive palate

BLUE MOUNTAIN GOLD LABEL

BRUT SPARKLING

6

Traditional method, Okanagan Valley,

British Columbia

TASTING NOTE: Encountered several times through

Gold Medal Plates, where it ended up being named of

Best of Show at theWinnipeg event in 2015, going

on to the finals at the Canadian Culinary Championship

in Kelowna, Feb 2016. It is wonderfully, vibrant,

compact brut with subtle but generous aromas of

berry fruit, lemon hazelnut and vague toastiness.

Mid-weight, dry and nicely even on the palate with a

firm mousse and excellent length. A touch flinty as

well. Very good to excellent length. Score:

LABOURÉ-GONTARD ROSÉ

CRÉMANT DE BOURGOGNE

Traditional method, AC, Burgundy, France

TASTING NOTE: Crémant wines are sparkling wines

from seven regions in France and are produced in

the traditional Champagne method. They’re an

excellent value option for people seeking a “Cham-

pagne experience” at a lower price point. This

rosé-styled example offers touches of candied red

cherry, a light, bready autolytic character and a fresh,

crisp acidity. An underlying herbal tone adds

complexity throughout. (Vintages panel, Feb. 2016)

Alison Napjus called this wine “well-knit and fresh,

with a creamy bead and flavors of smoked hazelnut,

dried apricot and ripe black raspberry ...” and

suggested a drinking window extending through
