UNCORK SOMETHING GREAT • SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2017

AUSTRALIA

– REDWINE

DANDELION VINEYARDS

LIONHEART OF THE BAROSSA

SHIRAZ 2015

Barossa, South Australia

The Sydney International Wine Competition judges

2,000 wines. Approximately 200 finalists are then

judged with food, and the top-showing wines earn

the Blue Gold award. This wine was rated as one of

the top 100 wines of the 2017 competition.

TASTING NOTE: Inky purple. The bouquet opens with

aromas of blackberry jam. On the palate the wine is

supple, plush and ripe with a juicy core of blackberries

and supple ripe tannins. The wine remains unchanged

when paired with the veal, the juicy core of blackberry

fruit shining through. (Judge: Andrea Pritzker, MW)

SANTA CAROLINA SPECIALTIES DRY

FARMING CARIGNAN 2013

Cauquenes Valley

TASTING NOTE: Cauquenes is the promised land for

carignan in Chile, with a vast wealth of old vines

thriving under the region’s generous sun. This wine,

from 80-year-old vines in the cool 2013 vintage,

explodes with red fruit and freshness. It may be rough

and rustic in texture, but the radiant fruit completely

fills that structure, always up front leading this happy

parade with its charm. A terrific value, it’s ready

for a barbecued chuck roast. Score:
