ABRUZZO

TERRA D’ALIGI TATONE

MONTEPULCIANO D’ABRUZZO 2014

DOC

This was first produced by brothers Carlo and

Adriano Spinelli in 1997 and was their first wood-

aged wine. They chose the name

Tatone

, the local

word for “grandfather,“ for the wine because it

reflected strength and authority – qualities the

brothers associated with their grandfather. This will

suggest ripe red fruit notes with high-toned violet

floral tones and spice. Ideal for lamb-based stews.

FONTAINE DU CLOS

CONFIDENCES 2014

AP Côtes du Rhône

TASTING NOTE: This is mouthfilling but not overly

weighty, with a wonderful blend of herbs and spices

rounded out by cherries and plums. Intense garrigue

notes pick up hints of anise on the long, softly dusty

finish. Drink now-2020. Editors’ Choice. Score:

91

PIERRE AMADIEU ROMANE-MACHOTTE

GIGONDAS 2014

AC

TASTING NOTE: This has good depth for the vintage,

with a slightly beefy feel to the blackberry and

black currant notes, showing singed bay leaf and

a good tug of dark earth at the end. Best from

2017 through 2024. Score:

91

ALTO ADIGE/TRENTINO

TIEFENBRUNNER PINOT GRIGIO 2016

IGT Vignetti delle Dolomiti

Tiefenbrunner’s Pinot Grigio is typically crafted to

present a more robust take on this style. Character-

istically, these wines have more depth and weight

than their peers. You can expect this to be a floral,

ripe, juicy wine that will suggest impressive, round

notes of lemon, pear and mineral.
