UNCORK SOMETHING GREAT • SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2017

CHÂTEAU VIEUX CHEVROL 2010

AC Lalande-de-Pomerol

The Champseix family has tended the vines of

Château Vieux Chevrol for three generations. Their

vines are an average of 30 years old. Like the great

wines of the neighbouring Pomerol, the wines of

Lalande-de-Pomerol are Merlot based. They can

present tremendous value, and the best of them can

offer tantalizing hints at the concentration and refine-

ment found in Pomerol. You can expect this one, from

the superb 2010 vintage, to offer suggestions of

tobacco, leather and cocoa alongside the maturing

red fruit. Enjoy this tonight with lamb stew or drink

by 2020+.

GINESTET GRAND VIN DE

PAUILLAC 2015

AP

Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour and

Château Mouton Rothschild.

TASTING NOTE: This is from Ginestet’s Collection

Grandes Appellations line, which is crafted from

grapes sourced from some of the most significant

properties and terroirs in Bordeaux. Each wine allows a

window into the majesty of many of these prestigious

estates. This 2015 is bright and tart with impressive

floral, fruit, cassis and a pencil shaving minerality.

The tannins are dry and tight and the wine balanced

with superb structure. (Vintages panel, March 2017)

CHÂTEAUTAUZINATL’HERMITAGERED2015

AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

(Bernard Moueix)

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Château Tauzinat

l’Hermitage has a refined, quite understated, but

poised bouquet that blossoms in the glass, scents

of briary and woodland coming through with aeration.

The palate is precise on the entry, structured with

good backbone, counterbalanced by exuberant

blackberry and strawberry notes on the lightly spiced

finish. This is a delightful Saint Émilion that should

offer 15-20 years of pleasure. Drink Date: 2020-

2038. Score:

90-92

– REDWINE

BORDEAUX

CHÂTEAU JOININ 2015

AC Bordeaux

TASTING NOTE: ... one of the very best of the reds

in this series, displaying ripe plum and blackberry

notes. The savory palate is nuanced, leading to a

refreshing, almost full-bodied drink. Belongs to the

same owners as Château Pipeau in Saint Emilion.

CHÂTEAU MONGRAVEY 2014

Cru Bourgeois, AC Margaux

TASTING NOTE: A delicate, perfumed nose starts

this off, leading to a fresh and lithe palate full of

attractive fruit and tiny, firm tannins. Nothing is done

to excess, resulting in a decent wine with evident

Margaux character. Drink: 2018-2026. Outstanding.

CHÂTEAU PIERRE DE MONTIGNAC 2009

Cru Bourgeois, AP Médoc

TASTING NOTE: An attractive, pleasantly maturing,

ripe, fruity-earthy Médoc here, with full but supple

tannins and terrific length and complexity overall.

Fine value for fans of classic Bordeaux, albeit more

merlot driven it appears than typical for the Médoc.
