UNCORK SOMETHING GREAT • SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2017

LE CALVANE QUERCIONE CHIANTI 2015

DOCG

TASTING NOTE: Twenty kilometres from downtown

Florence, Villa Le Calvane is perched on the hills of the

Montagnana Val di Pesa, adjacent to the legendary

Castle of Montegufoni. Thiswine brings alluring notions

of allspice, new leather, violets, cherries and currants

on a sleek, youthful frame. There’s a touch of chewy

tannin on the finish. Exceptional value. Sip it through

2028 with steak-and-arugula pizza or pasta

bolognese. (Vintages panel, Oct. 2017)

ICARIO VINO NOBILE DI

MONTEPULCIANO 2011

DOCG

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Vino Nobile di Montepul-

ciano shows a pretty garnet color with a good level of

saturation that never goes over the top. The wine

offers grit and determination without feeling heavy or

flat. The fact that the acidic component is so well

integrated gives this Vino Nobile an edge above the

rest. The wine offers bright energy and tension as well.

This well priced wine is a blend of 90%Sangiovese

with smaller parts Merlot, Colorino and Canaille aged

in oak for 18 months. Drink Date: 2015-2024.
