TASTING NOTE: Inky ruby. Intense aromas of

blackberry and blackcurrant, with sexy oak spice and

mocha elements. Sweet, broad and plush, with ripe

dark fruit flavors showing impressive power and

depth and an almost liqueur-like quality. Smooth and

seamless in texture, finishing on a sweet, sappy note

of cassis, with round, harmonious tannins adding

BARÓN DE MAGAÑA 2011

DO Navarra

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Baron De Magana is a

blend of 35%Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and

the rest Tempranillo and Syrah aged in 70% new

French oak for 14 months prior to bottling. The wine

comes across as a Right Bank Pomerol fromBordeaux,

with an opaque ruby/purple color, lush, sexy plum,

black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, a touch of licorice

and forest floor. It’s a layered, medium to full-bodied,

pure, luscious and heady wine to drink over the next

5-7 years. Drink Date 2016-2023. Score:

HONORO VERA MONASTRELL 2016

DOP Jumilla

The Gil family has been making wine for 100 years

spanning four generations. This wine is made with

Monastrell grapes grown in dry limestone vineyards,

resulting in big aromatic intensity and flavour con-

centration. Look for notes of underbrush, blueberry

and spice. The producer suggests pairings of grilled

or stewed meats, or soft-to-medium cheeses.

TASTING NOTE: Quinta do Crasto has been owned

and operated by the Roquette family for more than

100 years. The legacy of fine winemaking is hard to

miss in this 2015 beauty. Smoky dark fruit and

underbrush on the nose with evocative herbal and

tea leaf tones. Firm and long with ripe black fruit

dominant on the palate. Try this with a lamb stew or
