EARTHQUAKE ZINFANDEL 2014

Lodi

(Michael DavidWinery)

Earthquake Zin comes from an old Lodi vineyard

planted around the same time as San Francisco’s

great earthquake of 1906. It’s 100% Zinfandel

aged 14 months in American oak and made in a big,

bold style overflowing with berry fruit and spice. Pair

with rib-eye steaks with sage and a dollop of blue

cheese, or shake things up and pour it alongside

beef saltimbocca with shaved truffles and Asiago.

Anderson Valley

(Duckhorn)

TASTING NOTE: Beautifuly integrated oak spice and

a deep well of fruit flavors combine in this richly

complex and layered wine. It’s medium to full in body,

supple and mouthfilling in texture, and brings a great

array of classic aromas to the table. Dark cherry,

forest floor, cedar and a hint of wood smoke meld into

a feast of flavor. Editors’ Choice. Score:

DECOY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2015

Sonoma County

(Duckhorn)

TASTING NOTE: Ironically, under Duckhorn’s Decoy

label, this wine is the real thing. It clearly demonstrates

that you needn’t spend triple digits to find satisfying

wine with real character. Delivering more than the

price suggests, there’s a well-integrated combination

of prominent cassis-like fruitiness and subtle savory

components. Mild, smooth tannins allow immediate

consumption and juicy acidity in the finish prevents

palate fatigue. Perfect for flank steak on the grill this

summer. Score:
