SONVIDA MALBEC 2013

Mendoza

TASTING NOTE: This single vineyard expression

of Mendoza Malbec showcases howwell structured,

complex, and flavorful premiumMalbec can be. For

under $30, the 2013 SonVida Malbec is an outstand-

ing wine that I’d recommend buying by the case(s).

Deep ruby red with an opaque core, the nose is

burstingwith sweet Damson plum, blackberry, mocha,

cedar, graphite, with a hint of sous bois and pipe

tobacco. The palate is rich and concentratedwith dark

berries, blueberry, Damson plum, cacao, and leather

on the finish. An exceptional wine that is showing

beautifully now and will only gain further complexity

over the next decade and beyond. Enjoy with

Matambre (Argentinian stuffed flank steak), with

optional Chimichurri sauce – a fantastic pairing!

SANTA JULIA ORGANIC TORRONTÉS 2016

Mendoza

Ranked #89 in 2017

Wine Enthusiast

Best Buys.

TASTING NOTE: Exotic citrus and orange blossom

aromas are lively and a touch oily. This is racy and

fresh, with substance to the mouthfeel. Peachy

stone-fruit flavors hint at orange and lychee, while

this is lasting and intense on the finish. Drink now.

Best Buy. Score:

ARGENTINA

ALTA VISTA PREMIUM ESTATE

MALBEC 2015

Uco Valley, Mendoza

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Estate Malbec is

produced with grapes from the Valle de Uco, in Vista

Flores, at over 1,000 meters altitude. It fermented in

a mixture of epoxy-lined cement and stainless steel

vats, with half of the wine aged in used oak barrels for

one year. This is truly subtle and balanced, produced

in an elegant style, with perfect integration of the oak,

with a slight change in style going for a wine with

more tension. The grapes are harvested a little earlier,

the wine uses less toasty oak and the grapes are also

sourced from cooler vineyards. They have kept the

volume and concentration, but made the wines more

drinkable. Very drinkable, in fact. This could very well

be the best Estate Malbec to date. 400,000 bottles

produced. Drink date: 2016-2018. Score:

DON CRISTOBAL TRIANA 2011

Mendoza

TASTING NOTE: 50%Malbec, 30% Shiraz, 20%

Cabernet Sauvignon. Still full of youthful power, the

bouquet is a dense and brooding mix of ripe black

fruit, leather, spice, plum, dark cherry, and a hint of

smoky oak. So endowed with flavour, you could

carve it. Its depth and balance are augmented by

braids of firm, though ripe, tannins. Try it! Platinum –
