UNCORK SOMETHING GREAT • SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2017

BEAUJOLAIS

VAUCHER PÈRE & FILS

FLEURIE 2014

AC

TASTING NOTE: Produced by a négociant based in

Nuits-Saint-Georges, this is a ripe, Burgundian take

on Beaujolais. This creates a full, plum and black

cherry flavored wine where the tannins have been

cushioned by the generous fruit. It does have the

typical acidity and freshness of the year to give a lift.

Drink now. Best Buy. Score:

FAMILLE PERRIN LES CHRISTINS

VACQUEYRAS 2014

AC

The Perrin family is one of the most renowned

winemaking families in the world. Vacqueyras was

the second Côtes du Rhône village to be upgraded

to AC status. How’s that for an exciting pairing? The

red wines of Vacqueyras are notably complex and

balanced, with red fruit, spice and forest floor tones.

The Les Christins is always a stunningwine, perennially

perfumed, concentrated and rich, with lifted floral

tones, a great depth of layered dark fruit, and flavours

that can include a mix of pepper, garrigue, licorice

and chocolate.

CHÂTEAU HAUCHAT 2015

AC Fronsac

(Jean-Bernard Saby & Fils, vitic.)

Fronsac, one of Bordeaux’s satellite appellations, is

found on the north bank of the Dordogne River, and

its wines are crafted primarily from Merlot. Though

Fronsac and the other satellite regions do not own

the provenance and majesty of Bordeaux’s greatest

wine-growing areas, they do share some of their

traits and so can be a wonderful introduction to

Bordeaux. Expect to enjoy a wine with complex ripe

dark fruit, earth and spice tones with the structure

to age another 3-5 years.
