UNCORK SOMETHING GREAT • SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2017

SOUTHWEST

CLOS TROTELIGOTTE K-OR

MALBEC 2015

AC Cahors

(Emmanuel Rybinski)

TASTING NOTE: The wine is rich with a dusty

tannic character. It has black-currant flavors that are

packed with both fruitiness and balanced acidity.

The organic grapes give a pure line of ripe fruits that

are going to integrate well with the tannins. Drink

starting from 2018. Editors’ Choice. Score:

91

GEORGIA

– REDWINE

TELIANI VALLEY MUKUZANI 2014

Kakheti

TASTING NOTE: This dark violet-red wine has a

nose of blackberry and rose petal. Full on the palate,

it offers flavors of black cherry, cranberry, chocolate

and a touch of smoke. There is a pervading sense of

brightness throughout, although sneaky tannins

provide for a hint of chalkiness on the finish. Score:

88

MOSEL

DR. LOOSEN BLUE SLATE RIESLING

KABINETT 2016

Prädikatswein

This wine’s reputation for purity and clarity of floral

aromatics and classic flavours owes much to the

complex soils from which it is sourced. Mosel is

home to many of the greatest expressions of Riesling

in the world. This one is sourced from an area of blue

Devonian slate in the Middle Mosel. You can expect

peach and lime alongside a refined mineral note.

This will be a stunning partner for spicy crab cakes

or chilli chicken.

RHÔNE

HALOS DE JUPITER

CÔTES DU RHÔNE 2016

AC

(Philippe Cambie & Michel Gassier)

This wine, created by Michel Gassier (of Château de

Nages) and the brilliant winemaker Philippe Cambie,

is named for the king of the gods. Look for a floral

wine that puts an emphasis on clarity and depth, with

ripe dark fruit, smoke and spice. Always a hit, and

a great value.

LE VIEUX DONJON

CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015

AC

(Michel Lucien, prop.-récolt.)

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape is

a classic blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah,

10%Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, mostly from rolled

stone terroirs, that was partially destemmed and will

see 15 months all in foudre. It boasts a deep ruby/

purple color as well as full-bodied richness, sweet

tannin and textbook Southern Rhône notes of cured

meats, toasted spice, garrigue and ample red and

black fruits. It will have two decades or more of prime

drinking. Score:

93-95

TARDIEU LAURENT VIEILLES

VIGNES VACQUEYRAS 2015

AC

TASTING NOTE: I loved the sexy, charming,

incredibly polished 2015 Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes,

and this mix of 70% Grenache, 20%Mourvèdre and

10% Syrah offers layers of fresh plum and jammy

blackberry fruit to go with notes of lavender and

garrigue, medium to full-bodied richness, gorgeous

purity of fruit and fine tannin. Like most Vacqueyras,

it will drink nicely right out of the gate, and hold for

a decade. Score:

91-93
