SPERI PIGARO RIPASSO VALPOLICELLA

CLASSICO SUPERIORE 2015

DOC

TASTING NOTE: Speri has been family-owned and

-operated for seven generations, a telling accom-

plishment in any industry. The 2015 Pigaro has a

pretty nose that suggests pure fruit, spice, earth and

a hint of smoke. The palate is silky, balanced and

structured. The earthy tone from the nose is present

but plays a secondary role to the fresh fruit. A tasty,

complex wine. Very nice. Enjoy with braised meats

and root vegetables. (Vintages panel, May 2017)

TUSCANY

TENUTA SAN GUIDO GUIDALBERTO 2015

IGT Toscana

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 vintage promises good

things in Tuscany and this wine offers an informal

sneak peek at what we can expect from the

celebrated Tenuta San Guido vineyards in Bolgheri.

The 2015 Guidalberto opens to a darkly saturated

garnet hue. It shows similar concentration and power

in terms of its aromatic delivery. Aromas are shapely

and round with dark fruit nuances followed by leather,

spice and dark tar. The wine is mostly Cabernet

Sauvignon with a smaller part Merlot. You feel the

lush softness of the second grape as the wine glides

smoothly over the palate. It takes on more weight

in the glass. This is a solid buy from Bolgheri on the

Tuscany Coast. Drink date: 2017-2026. Score:

91

This wine is crafted through a unique process that

uses grapes that have been set aside to dry until

December to trigger a second fermentation of a

vibrancy, supporting spice and smoke.
