CLOS DU BOIS CALCAIRE

CHARDONNAY 2014

Russian River Valley, Sonoma County

TASTING NOTE: Very good chardonnay from

Sonoma and more precisely from the Russian River

Valley. Lemony, rich and tense in mouth, with a note

of pastry cream that is not over the top. The oak

is noticeable but well integrated. Score:

HESS SELECT SAUVIGNON BLANC 2016

North Coast

TASTING NOTE: From the iconic Hess FamilyWine

Estates, this is sourced from sites planted in both

gravelly and volcanic soils. Impressive Sauvignon

character on the nose and palate. Grassy, with goose-

berry, grapefruit, passion fruit and lemon aromas

and flavours. This has some weight on the palate and

a soft, creamy mouthfeel. Enjoy with goat cheese,

or grilled fish or shrimp. (Vintages panel, Jan. 2017)

CA’ MOMI MERLOT 2015

Napa Valley

TASTING NOTE: Founded in 2006 by three Italian

immigrants – Valentina Guolo-Migotto, Dario De Conti

and Stefano Migotto – Ca’ Momi has gained a fine

reputation for crafting Napa wines that deliver quality

and value. This 2015 Merlot is loaded with rich, smoky

black fruit, plum, cocoa and charred wood aromas and

flavours. This has excellent structure, sweet tannins

and a lingering smoky note on the finish. Perfect for

lamb stew. (Vintages panel, May 2017)

FOLIE À DEUX

CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013

Alexander Valley, Sonoma County

TASTING NOTE: This is a succulent and structured

wine that’s priced fairly and a crowd-pleaser to boot,

a blend of grenadine, raspberry and currant that’s

soft and smooth on the palate with a restrained use

of oak. Editors’ Choice. Score:

90

GNARLY HEAD

AUTHENTIC BLACK 2014

Lodi

TASTING NOTE: A deep color and ripe, gushing fruit

aromas lead to generous dark cherry and blackberry

flavors in this wine. Firm tannins are loosened by a

sugary element that lingers on the finish. Best Buy.

KLINKER BRICK

OLD VINE ZINFANDEL 2014

Lodi

TASTING NOTE: This wine is rich, ripe, concentrated

and almost sweet. It’s wonderful to smell the raspberry

syrup aromas, taste the blueberry and blackberry

flavors and feel the creaminess of the texture coating

the palate. Low in tannins but high in viscosity, it’s a

pleasure to sip. Score:
