GAPSTED TOBACCO ROAD

PINOT NOIR 2016

King Valley, Victoria

TASTING NOTE: Though the King Valley was initially

best known for growing tobacco, grapes have been

grown in the area since around 1860. The region’s

varied topography and cool climate make it ideal

for a wide range of varieties including Pinot, and the

Gapsted Tobacco Road is a classic example. This

delivers superb freshness and lift alongside impressive

cherry and earth. There’s an additional minty herbal

undertone that is very attractive. (Vintages panel,

SOUTH AFRICA

– REDWINE

FLAGSTONE DRAGON TREE CABERNET

SAUVIGNON/SHIRAZ/PINOTAGE 2014

WOWestern Cape

TASTING NOTE: ... roughly an equal blend of Syrah,

Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has quite a

high-toned floral bouquet with violet infused black

fruit, clove and Chinese five spice, later the Cabernet

imparting cigar box aromas. The palate is medium-

bodied with slightly chewy tannin, nicely balanced

with good weight, a dash of white pepper with a touch

of Japanese nori on the finish. An intriguing wine,

one that should be interesting to watch evolve in

bottle. Drink 2018-2028. Score:

90
