ALSACE

JOSEPH CATTIN PINOT BLANC 2016

AC Alsace

Swiss-born François Cattin settled in the small

Alsatian village of Voegtlinshoffen (say that five times

fast) and began the family winery in 1720. Nearly

three centuries and 11 generations later, the Cattin

family continues to make fine wines, such as this

Pinot Blanc, which won a Gold Medal at the 2017

CGA in Paris. Look for subtle aromas and flavours

of tree fruit and pair the wine with a ham-and-

cheese quiche.

BORDEAUX

CHÂTEAU D’ARGADENS BLANC 2016

AC Bordeaux

(Famille Sichel)

The Sichel family, who also own Château d’Angludet,

acquired Château d’Argadens in 2002 and since

then have produced excellent wines at this estate.

This 2016 Blanc blends 65% Sauvignon Blanc

with 35% Semillon, lending grassy overtones to the

gooseberry and pear fruit. Enjoy, lightly chilled, as

an aperitif or with bouillabaisse.

BURGUNDY

GUEGUEN CHABLIS 2015

AC

TASTING NOTE: This comes from vines in Chichée

on the warm right bank of the Serein River. It is a ripe

wine, full of rich apricot and lime fruits and a straight

line of acidity that gives the Chablis a crisp texture.

The aftertaste is lively and the wine is ready to drink.

TERRES SECRÈTES LA ROCHE

VINEUSE MÂCON 2015

AC

TASTING NOTE: This wine is tight, textured and still

young. With crisp, mineral acidity and bright citrus

and white stone fruits, it needs to age to show its full,

rich potential. Drink from 2018. Score:

LOIRE

CHÂTEAU MONCONTOUR

SEC VOUVRAY 2015

AC

TASTING NOTE: Although labeled as Sec (dry), this

wine has hallmarks of the sweeter wines from this

estate. Through its crisp, dry texture come honey,

almonds and a light hint of botrytis. It makes for a

delicious wine that is likely to age well, although hard

to resist now. Drink ideally from 2018. Editors’

DOMAINE DES QUINTS

SAUMUR 2016

AC

TASTING NOTE: “Domaine des Quints” may sound

like a dwelling for five siblings, but in reality, it’s

a small organically farmed estate winery. This dry,

elegant Chenin Blanc from the lauded Saumur

appellation is fresh and floral, with crunchy apple,

tropical and citrus fruit and a mineral undertone.

Pour the wine with pork chops or rillettes, or sip a

glass alongside a fish taco or two (or five). (Vintages

panel, May 2017)
