30 VINTAGES

SATURDAY, JANUARY 6, 2018

UNCORK SOMETHING GREAT • SATURDAY, JANUARY 6, 2018

CHÂTEAU LA CROIX DE QUEYNAC 2015

AC Bordeaux Supérieur

(Garbard, prop.-récolt.)

TASTING NOTE: A blend of 50%Cabernet Sauvignon

and 50%Merlot, this youthful Bordeaux shows

bramblywild currants, plum, graphite and woodsmoke

wrapped in a bright ribbon of acidity. Excellent value.

Decant for a half-hour or so to let it express its

potential, and enjoy now through 2023 with bison

burgers, mushroom stew or firmer cheeses. (Vintages

panel, Nov. 2017)

CHÂTEAU PEYRABON 2015

AC Haut-Médoc

TASTING NOTE: Barrel Sample. Dark tannins and

layers of black-plum flavors give this wine weight

and richness. The structure is there, showing a dry

edge alongside spice and a juicy aftertaste.

CHÂTEAU SIAURAC 2010

AC Lalande de Pomerol

(Baronne Guichard)

TASTING NOTE: This fine chateau delivers pretty,

modern Bordeaux year after year. This has a very

pretty, fragrant and spicy nose of cedar, vanilla

cream, blackberry jam and foresty earthiness. It’s

medium weight, quite plush and supple on the

mid-palate. The tannins are fine, the alcohol is a bit

warm. Well structured in merlot’s softer idiom, with

very good to excellent length. Best now (with an hour

decant) to 2023. Score:

91

DOMAINE JACKY MARTEAU

SAUVIGNON TOURAINE 2016

AC

Sauvignon Blanc from the Touraine appellation is

crisp and aromatic, with notes of leafy green herbs,

crunchy veggies, citrus and exotic fruits. This one

in particular, from the brother-and-sister team who

run this family winery, tends to shine with lemony

goodness. Pour it with roasted artichoke salad.

RHÔNE

XAVIER MUSCAT DE BEAUMES DE

VENISE 2015

Vin Doux Naturel, AP

TASTING NOTE: Tasting just like the 2014, only

richer and sweeter (although Xavier told me the goal

here is less obvious sweetness), the 2015 Muscat

de Beaumes de Venise offers a stunning nose of

white peach, honeysuckle, sugar water and apricot.

Full-bodied, rich, unctuous and decadent, with a big

mid-palate and nicely balanced sweetness, drink

it over the coming couple of years. Drink Date:

2016-2018. Score:

– REDWINE

BORDEAUX

CHÂTEAU BRÉHAT 2012

AC Côtes de Bordeaux – Castillon

TASTING NOTE: An engaging presentation for this

wine with its deep ruby-red color and the complex

and delicate fragrances of black berries and leather,

underlined by a woody finish; fresh and ample on

attack, the mouth unrolls velvety tannins that remain

silky until the final; a perfect balance. Already very

harmonious, this vintage has the structure to age

well. Score:
