ARMAND DE BRIGNAC BRUT ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE
AC

310441 (XD) 750mL $499.95

TASTING NOTE: Well-spiced and finely knit, this harmonious rosé is framed by firm acidity wrapped in a creamy mousse and flavors of dried apricot, wild strawberry and almond skin. Smoke, floral and orange peel notes linger on the finish. Drink now through 2020. Score: 92 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Aug. 31, 2016)

ICELLARS ARINNA 2015
Icel Vineyard, VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake

524421 (XD) 750mL $39.00

TASTING NOTE: As much as I was impressed with the 2014 of this wine the '15 is even better - the formula seems familiar: 12 months French and American oak (French dominated), but the percentages are more in balance with where you would expect them to be from this vintage: 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc ... This one is quite simply gorgeous from the aromas of cassis, mocha and cherry to the smoky-white pepper and grippy tannin structure at the back end, even the dark fruit mid-palate shows finesse. This is one to be proud of. Only 225 cases produced - and even at this price should go quickly. Drink: 2019-2029. Score: 4.5+ Stars (out of 5) (Michael Pinkus, michaelpinkuswinereview.com, April 5, 2017)

CHÂTEAU HAUT-BERGEY 2004
AC Pessac-Léognan

516161 (XD) 750mL $42.95

TASTING NOTE: This blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot is from the "classic" 2004 vintage - so called because though, relatively speaking, it is not one of Bordeaux's greatest, it was a vintage that delivered the elegance and finesse one expects from this iconic region. As the 2004s have aged, they have evolved into truly charming wines. This one has mature notes of leather and meat tones emerging through tobacco, earth and the still-present dark fruit. It has held together very well, offering fine balance and integration. (Vintages panel, March 2017)

ROCHE DE BELLENE COLLECTION BELLENUM GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN VILLAGES 1999
AC

518902 (XD) 750mL $86.50

TASTING NOTE: The vintage has been my go to, fan favourite and highest probability for cellar pulling success since purchasing some Girardin Premier Cru more than 15 years ago and exacting success each time one is opened. Nicolas Potel is both lucky and highly intelligent in his negotiating some 1999 from Gevrey-Chambertin. This here now is quite funky in its own right and that perfect example of older Burgundy walking the fine line of earth-fruit-volatility exactitude. This is a beautifully rich and red liqueur red though I can see how some would see it as showing some microbes to change the conversation. No matter though because tannin following structure is securely intact. Drink 2017-2022. Score: 93 (Michael Godel, winealign.com, June 7, 2017)

FRANÇOIS RAQUILLET VIELLES VIGNES MERCUREY 2015
AC

514547 (XD) 750mL $44.95

TASTING NOTE: From vines over 60 years old, the Mercurey Vieilles Vignes leads with aromas of juicy black cherry, sous bois and woodsmoke, introducing a rich, concentrated palate with nice balance and refinement. Drinking Window: 2018-2030. Score: 89 (William Kelley, decanter.com, Dec. 31, 2016)

TORRES COS PERPETUAL 2014
DOCa Priorat

265710 (D) 750mL $49.95

TASTING NOTE: A mouth-filling and generous example of Priorat, with deep dark fruits and notes of chocolate and nutmeg, from oak-ageing. Impressive, satisfying and with underlying freshness that holds it all together. Score: Gold and Priorat Red Trophy (International Wine Challenge, 2017)

LA RIOJA ALTA VIÑA ALBERDI RESERVA 2010
DOCa Rioja

161893 (XD) 750mL $24.95

TASTING NOTE: Ripe and intense aromas of strawberries and blackberries with hints of black ink. Savory notes, too. Full-bodied, chewy and focused with linear fruit and character. Very finely crafted. Drink or hold. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Dec. 2, 2016)

ARMAND DE BRIGNAC ACE OF SPADES BRUT GOLD CHAMPAGNE
AC

438820 (XD) 1500mL $649.95

TASTING NOTE: This is a three-way assemblage: three grape varieties - and equal percentage of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with 20% of Pinot Meunier - and a blend of 3 vintages, 2009, 2010 and 2012. The nose is full of flavours and rich with notes of white flowers and crème patissière. However, the palate is crisp, fresh and delicate with a lovely creamy texture. It is elegant, refined and very stylish (unlike the bottle!). It's a pleasant combination of power and concentration blended with finesse and elegance. While the dosage is 9g/l, it feels much drier, more like a 5g/l and this probably due to the spinal cord of acidity. Score: 95 (Christelle Guibert, decanter.com, Nov. 24, 2016)

BERLUCCHI 61 BRUT FRANCIACORTA
DOCG

514323 (D) 750mL $39.95

TASTING NOTE: 90% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Nero. This wine impresses with its subtle autolytic touch, spices, green and yellow apples, white peach, creamy mousse, vibrant acidity and subtle hints of lemon peel and brioche. Lilting chalky length. A well made and very interesting wine. Score: 90 (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2016)

GLENMORANGIE PRIVATE EDITION BACALTA HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT
Baked Malmsey Madeira casks, unchillfiltered

520833 750mL $179.95

TASTING NOTE: Light gold. Nose is fragrant, honeyed and sweet. Some ripe apricots, mead-like, and a curious minerally/flinty note, followed by some sweet white chocolate. A little water brings out a classic 'rancio'/aged Balsamic tone, with a suggestion of baked bread, malty/biscuit notes, meadow flowers and some peach crumble. Taste has an initial burst of mint toffee, with baked fruits such as caramelised oranges and apricots, lots of honeycomb, almonds and dates... Milk chocolate, marzipan, white pepper and ripe, juicy honeydew melon. Finishes in a rich, syrupy aftertaste, with more caramelised citrus and pears, some creamy fudge, but always an intriguing mentholic/eucalyptus sensation in the background. DOMAINE BESSON MONT DE MILIEU 1ER CRU CHABLIS 2014
AC

496653 (XD) 750mL $42.95

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu had a slight reduction on the nose, opening with scents of greengage, granite and even a faint scent of fresh green asparagus. The palate is fresh on the entry, quite detailed with a keen line of acidity, that asparagus note in the background, but complemented with citrus lemon and fine cold stony notes on the clinical finish. This is an excellent Mont de Milieu from winemaker Camille Besson. Drink Date: 2017-2030. Score: 91 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

LOUIS ROEDERER BRUT ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE 2011
AC

368415 (XD) 750mL $99.95

TASTING NOTE: A blend of grapes from Cumières in the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs, this is a rich, well-balanced and very young brut rosé. It is ripe, while keeping an almost austere texture and acidity that will soften and broaden out as it ages. Drink now for the lively red fruits, but better to wait until 2019. Score: 94 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 2016)

CHÂTEAU RIEUSSEC 2010
1er cru, AC Sauternes

263012 (S) 375mL $87.95

TASTING NOTE: A muscular version, with dacquoise and marzipan notes leading the way for creamed orange, white peach, ginger, mirabelle compote and tangerine accents that pump through the piecrust-filled finish. Has the vintage's raw oomph, as well as range and cut for balance. Best from 2018 through 2035. Score: 94 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, 2015)

MITOLO ANGELA SHIRAZ 2014
McLaren Vale

493569 (XD) 750mL $31.95

TASTING NOTE: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Angela Shiraz has a warm blackberry and blueberry scented nose with touches of espresso, balsamic, prunes and charcoal plus a waft of chocolate. Medium-bodied with a good amount of warm blackberry and mocha laced flavors on offer in the mouth, it has rounded tannins and plenty of lively acid to support, finishing long. Score: 90+ (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

BACHELDER LOWREY VINEYARD OLD VINES PINOT NOIR 2014
VQA St. David's Bench, Niagara Peninsula

361816 (XD) 750mL $44.95

TASTING NOTE: There's a lovely, delicate floral nose here, with very subtle fruit undertones. Very nice. The palate is elegant and refined, with excellent precision - perfectly ethereal Pinot with cherry and raspberry and some layered earthy, cured meat tones. Superb balance with a fine acidity. Enjoy this with roast beef dinners or hold and follow its evolution until 2025+. (Vintages panel, Aug. 2017)

DOMAINE LA CRAU DES PAPES CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2012
AP

TASTING NOTE: Deep ruby. Ripe blueberry and cherry aromas show an expansive character, picking up woodsmoke and floral nuances with air. Fleshy and ample on the palate, offering sweet black and blue fruit flavors and a hint of bitter chocolate. Closes sweet and long, with slow-building tannins and a touch of mocha. TWOMEY BIEN NACIDO PINOT NOIR 2014
Santa Maria Valley, California

517607 (XD) 750mL $90.95

TASTING NOTE: Originally planted in 1973, the Bien Nacido Vineyard blocks are interspersed with avocado orchards and strawberry fields. This is intense and long with impressive complexity. There's a lithe elegance to the cherry and strawberry fruit tones and sweet vanilla underpinning. Toasty with good structure and integration. (Vintages panel, Feb. 2017)

VENDRELL OLIVELLA BRUT NATURE CAVA 2011
Traditional method, DO, Spain

518928 (XD) 750mL $26.95

TASTING NOTE: 50% Xarello, 30% Macabeo, 20% Parellada. A crisp and clean aroma of bright citrus and lime, with elegant brioche and hazelnut characters. The complex and refined palate is beautifully balanced with tropical fruit, candied lemon, zest and a hint of bitters that does not overpower the fruit. The lingering finish holds biscotti on the length. Score: 95 (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2016)

BACHELDER WISMER VINEYARD #1 WINGFIELD BLOCK CHARDONNAY 2013
VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula

520403 (XD) 750mL $44.95

TASTING NOTE: The nose is quite rich, with buttered toast, grilled pineapple, apple and plum tones. The buttery oak notes take the honours on the palate, leading the well-articulated replays. Rich and toasty, this is ideal for grilled lobster tail. (Vintages panel, Aug. 2017)

TRIMBACH RÉSERVE RIESLING 2013
AC Alsace

247023 (XD) 750mL $30.95

TASTING NOTE: An austere, monolithic white, with intense acidity driven by abundant minerality. Subtle notes of melon rind, lemon preserves, ground white pepper and spring forest should gain momentum with additional air or cellar time. Best from 2019 through 2026.
