An unoaked blend of 80% Sangiovese
with the remainder from Cabernet
Sauvignon and Merlot, this is a wine that
calls out for a grilled steak with mushrooms
and onions. With no oak contact,
Altesino’s forward fruitiness takes centre
stage. Bursting with vibrant raspberry,
plum and sour cherry aromas, it is dry,
medium-bodied and well-balanced, with
a long finish. A great red to enjoy all
summer long.
QUINTA DOS QUATRO VENTOS
2005
DOC Douro, Portugal, Single Estate
(Caves Aliança)
0902742 (XD) 750 mL $ 19.95
Caves Aliança is one of Portugal’s larger
producers, but they are still keenly focused
on quality. Winemakers Arminda Ferreira
and Francisco Antunes are aided by the
expertise of well-known French consultant
Pascal Chatonnet. Aged for 12 months in
new French and Russian oak, this smooth,
refined red blends the classic Douro varieties
of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga
Nacional. Bold and juicy, this wine displays
aromas and flavours of perfumed spice
with coconut, earth and leather notes all
wrapped in dense black plum and ripe
wild berries. This delicious, medium fullbodied
wine would pair perfectly with
spice-crusted roast lamb.

HENRY OF PELHAM OFF-DRY
RESERVE RIESLING 2007
VQA Short Hills Bench, Niagara Peninsula
557165 (MD) 750 mL $ 15.95
Looking for the perfect wine to
savour on a crisp summer
evening? Look no further than
this off-dry treat. Grapes for
this rich and vibrant Riesling
are left on the vine well into
October, allowing them to reach
the desired ripeness. The
result is an interplay of lush
citrus and floral accents
with a hint of sweetness balanced
by a brilliant seam of acidity.
This is a delicious match for
pork chops with caramelized
apples, or pair with spicy
Thai dishes. An amazing value,
it will age well for 5-7 years.
