7 VINTAGES

HUNGARY

WHITE WINE

DISZNOKO 5 PUTTONYOS TOKAJI

ASZU 2006

Tokaj-Hegyalja, Hungary

TASTING NOTE:

Intense and elegant

at once, this is smooth, harmonious and

vibrant. The citrus pâte de fruit, apple

and lemon candy flavors are long and

permeating. Terrific focus. Drink now

through 2018. Ranked no. 75 in the

Wine

Spectator

Top 100 of 2014. Score:

ISRAEL

RED WINE

SHILOH LEGEND KP 2012

Judean Hills

The world of wine has many exciting

stories, but one that perhaps doesn’t get

the attention it deserves has been the

evolution of superior-quality Kosher and

Mevushal wines from Israel. The new-found

focus on excellence has led to the creation

of wines that far exceed the confines of

the sacramental and can and do appeal

to non-Kosher wine drinkers. These are

great wines, first and foremost. Sourced

from vines grown at an average elevation

of 800 metres, this example from Shiloh,

a newwinery established in 2005, will

offer an elegant, complex insight into

this new generation of chic Kosher wines.

RED WINE

ELIO GRASSO GINESTRA CASA

MATÉ BAROLO 2011

DOCG

TASTING NOTE:

A very exciting and

subtle red with tar, licorice and dark berry

character. Full-bodied, yet subtle and

balanced. Lovely density and freshness.

Better than 2010. Drink or hold for

many years. Score:

95

ADA NADA VALEIRANO

BARBARESCO 2010

DOCG

TASTING NOTE:

The 2010 Barbaresco

Valeirano shows floral notes of rose

petal and pressed violets that make for a

slow-moving aromatic preamble that is

soon followed by defined layers of leather,

spice, pipe tobacco, tar and licorice. The

feminine qualities of the bouquet make

for a fitting contrast against the masculine

determination of the mouthfeel. Anticipated

maturity: 2015-2023. Score:

93

DAMILIAMO LISTE BAROLO 2010

DOCG

TASTING NOTE:

The 2010 Barolo Liste

is utterly seductive and charming from

start to long finish. This wine awards a high

pleasure quotawith the proverbial opulence

and hedonistic plumpness that is not

easy to achieve with the austere Nebbiolo

grape. The Liste vineyard delivers the

natural characteristics that are appropriate

for dark and shapelywines. Thick extraction

is followed by dark fruit, pressed blackberry,

exotic spice, cola and balsam herb. It ages

for two years in oak and two years in bottle,

but it needs more time to lose its baby fat.

Drink this bottle after 2018. Drink: 2017-

2035. Score:

95

COGNO VIGNA ELENA

RISERVA BAROLO 2009

DOCG

TASTING NOTE:

It’s hard not to be

smitten by the 2009 Barolo Riserva Vigna

Elena. This is a gorgeous expression

with a compelling sense of depth, flavor

intensity and extraction. This wine is made

with a rare Nebbiolo clone called Rosè.

It was not produced in 2008 because

damaging hailstorms ruined much of the

fruit that year. Riserva Vigna Elena exhibits

enormous attention to detail with micro

aromas of wild berry, spice, cola, licorice

and white truffle that are fused together

in a penetrating aromatic front. The tannins

finely textured and silky. Drink: 2017-2035.
