JEAN FILLIOUX TRES VIEUX GRANDE CHAMPAGNE 1er CRU DE COGNAC

471003 700mL $170.00

TASTING NOTE: Twenty-five years old minimum. Eye-catching copper color; again, substantial amounts of wispy sediment seen. I get lots of streamlined scents of nougat, banana in brown sugar syrup, some maple and clove in the initial inhalations after the pour; secondary sniffs detect butter, Christmas cake spices (clove, cinnamon) and dried yellow fruit, including pear, pineapple and kiwi. Entry is deep, acidic, resiny and even a tad chewy; midpalate is tobacco-like, cheese-like, eggy, bacon-like and toasty. Finishes satiny in texture, cigar tobacco-like, resiny/oaky, meaty, clean and, oh, so sensuous. Highest Recommendation. Score: 5 Stars (out of 5) (F. Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal, June 2013)

CHÂTEAU D'ISSAN 2012
AC Margaux, 3e Cru

473330 (XD) 750mL $128.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Château d'Issan, builds on the richness of the second wine and adds more body, structure and density. It has an inky purple color and a stunning nose of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as touches of incense and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, this 2012 is a great success in the vintage, one of the superstars. Moreover, its precociousness suggests it could be drunk in the next 4-5 years or cellared through 2025. I underrated this wine dramatically in my report of April, 2013 (Issue 206). Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, April 2015)

CHÂTEAU BRANE-CANTENAC 2010
AC Margaux, 2e Cru

87791 (XD) 750mL $182.00

TASTING NOTE: With a gorgeously evolved, extremely complex bouquet of forest floor, spring flowers, lead pencil shavings and red and black currants, this full-bodied, dense, ruby/plum/purple-colored wine hits the palate with an opulent, fleshy, full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and a very layered, profoundly concentrated style that is, at the same time, both powerful and sublime. This gorgeous wine from proprietor Henri Lurton will benefit from 3-5 years of cellaring and evolve for 25-30 years. Drink: 2016-2046. Score: 95+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 2013)

CHÂTEAU FAUGÈRES 2010
AC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

473280 (XD) 750mL $90.00

TASTING NOTE: The estate's most abundant cuvee of about 5,000+ cases is the 2010 Faugeres, a blend of 85% Merlot with the rest mostly Cabernet Franc and just a small quantity of Cabernet Sauvignon, all bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is another St.-Emilion hitting 15% natural alcohol. Tiny yields of 22 hectoliters per hectare and a late harvest that went into the third week of October have resulted in a stunningly concentrated wine with notes of crushed rock, blue and dark red/black fruits, some camphor, incense and, for lack of a better description, a smell of acacia flowers. A sexy, opulent and full-bodied wine that seems to have more in common with the 2009s than most 2010s, this wine can be drunk out of the gate, but will certainly hit its stride in 3-4 years and last for up to 15. Score: 92 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

CHÂTEAU PIPEAU 2010
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

258558 (XD) 1500mL $94.00

TASTING NOTE: Plush and friendly, with a dusting of singed vanilla and cedar giving way to plum and mulled blackberry notes. Offers a nice caressing feel, with a smoky note weaving through the finish. Should age gracefully. Best from 2014 through 2024. Score: 91 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2013)

CHÂTEAU CLARKE 2009
AC Listrac-Médoc

510529 (XD) 1500mL $113.00

TASTING NOTE: Full, ripe, densely concentrated and mouth filling, this is an ample and satisfy left bank Bordeaux from the great 2009 vintage. Tannins are quite supple and fluid, making this pleasurable now, though will certainly gain in complexity over the next half dozen years and sail on for several more beyond that. Score: 91 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, Nov. 20, 2015)

CHÂTEAU MONTROSE 2005
AC Saint-Estèphe

469155 (XD) 750mL $365.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2005 Montrose has a saturated purple color. As backward as one would expect of a St.-Estèphe, it offers notes of sweet blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, earth, graphite and spice. It is medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic, and still a decade away from prime-time drinkability. This 30+ year wine is clearly outstanding, but not one of the vintage's most prodigious efforts. Drink: 2024-2034. Score: 94+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, June 21, 2015)

CHÂTEAU ROL VALENTIN 2004
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

663575 (XD) 750mL $90.00

TASTING NOTE: Fresh and aromatic, with blackberry, chocolate and raspberry. A gorgeous nose. Full-bodied, yet balanced and refined, with caressing tannins and a long finish. Wonderful for the vintage. Harmonious. Consistently outstanding. Best after 2010. Score: 92 (James Suckling, winespectator.com, March 31, 2007)

MICHEL JUILLOT MERCUREY CLOS DES BARRAULTS 1er CRU 2014
AC

474965 (XD) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: Seductive and opulent raspberry nose. The palate is quite rich, with fine-grained tannins and concentrated but not extracted fruit of intensity and finesse. Beautifully poised and persistent. Drinking Window:2018-2028. Score: 91 (Tasting panel, decanter.com, Feb. 17, 2016)

CHANZY PULIGNY-MONTRACHET LES REUCHAUX 2014
AC

473660 (XD) 750mL $60.00

Puligny-Montrachet produces some Pinot Noir, but this is Chardonnay country through and through. The white wines here are famously aromatic and complex, and approach the quality of those from Montrachet, the most celebrated of Burgundy's Grand Cru and considered to be the source of the greatest examples of Chardonnay in the world. The 2014 Chanzy Puligny-Montrachet Les Reuchaux will be complex, with a pure mineral undertone and the region's distinct nutty aromas.

DOMAINE DES MALANDES VAU DE VEY CHABLIS 1er CRU 2014
AC

701219 (XD) 750mL $38.00

TASTING NOTE: The cool, restrained and beautifully layered nose is rife with Chablis character, indeed this could basically not be mistaken for anything else as the iodine and oyster shell nuances are a dead giveaway on the mostly green fruit and citrus-inflected aromas. There is first-rate concentration to the intense and muscular medium weight flavors that possess plenty of salinity on the delicious, clean and markedly dry finale. As is usually the case this is not a refined wine but I certainly like the bold delivery and intense flavor authority. Drink: 2019+. Score: 91 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 15, 2015)

DOMAINE DUBLÈRE CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE GRAND CRU 2014
AC

271189 (XD) 750mL $186.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru has a very respectable, quite complex nose -- one of the best I encountered during my time in Burgundy. The palate is vibrant and tensile with good mineralité, plenty of body with nicely integrated oak towards the finish. This is an excellent wine from Blair Pethel and is worth hunting down. Drink: 2016-2029. Score: 92-94 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Nov. 7, 2015)

DOMAINE JEAN-MARC BROCARD VAULORENT CHABLIS 1er CRU 2014
AC

581710 (XD) 750mL $52.00

TASTING NOTE: This tight and crisp wine is produced from a parcel that is run biodynamically. It is nervy, edgy, packed with fruitiness and intense acidity. That makes the wine still very young, lean and needing time to fill out. Drink from 2017. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 2015)

PATRICK JAVILLIER LES TILLETS MEURSAULT 2014
AC

714899 (XD) 750mL $82.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Meursault Les Tillets has a very perfumed nose with lime flower, citrus fruit and cold limestone scents that possess more vigour that Javillier's other 2014s. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a citric thread of acidity. Plenty of energy here, quite linear at the moment, but there is commendable precision on the malic finish that leaves the mouth fresh and wanting more. Drink: 2016-2028. Score: 92 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Jan. 10, 2016)

DOMAINE BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS MEURSAULT GENEVRIÈRES 1er CRU 2013
AC

87049 (XD) 750mL $113.00

TASTING NOTE: This shows a beautiful center palate with sliced tropical fruit, apple and pie crust character. Full body, bright acidity and a long finish. Excellent. Drink it. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, June 19, 2015)

MARCHAND TAWSE MEURSAULT 2013
AC

285866 (XD) 750mL $62.00

The grapes for this wine are sourced from three vineyards that each reflect the nuanced differences in soil types. The Narvaux vineyard, which provides most of the grapes, is on a steep slope and planted in gravelly limestone soils. The Crotots vineyard is predominantly clay with a limestone base and some gravels. The Grand Charrons is very gravelly with limestone and clay, and very fertile alluvium soils. The resulting wine will be an elegant, floral and vibrant expression of Meursault, with delicately applied oak.

PINSON FRÈRES MONT DE MILIEU CHABLIS 1er CRU 2013
AC

700914 (XD) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: Rich and open, this is a generous, full-throated wine. There is a good contrast between the ripeness and a line of acidity that gives a steely, textured backbone. The end combines the two characters, a ripe, full aftertaste cut with a touch of steel. Drink from 2017. Cellar Selection. Score: 95 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 2015)

PASCAL MARCHAND BÂTARD-MONTRACHET GRAND CRU 2011
AC

254482 (XD) 750mL $403.00

The wines of the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru tend to be richer and more perfumed than those of its neighbours, Montrachet and Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet. This is due to the vineyard's positioning lower on the slope of the Mont-Ratchet hill, where the soils are somewhat deeper and more fertile. However, this is a very relative comparison, as the soils of Bâtard-Montrachet are by no means generous, and the roots must work hard in this stony, steep site. This wine will be complex, fruity and mineral driven.

CLOS DES PAPES CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2014
AC

398305 (XD) 750mL $130.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep ruby. Highly perfumed scents of candied dark berries, cola and lavender oil develop a suave, smoky Indian spice nuance. Fleshy, expansive red and dark berry and floral pastille flavors display an impressive blend of richness and energy, picking up a mineral flourish with air. Finishes juicy, sweet and very long, displaying lingering, spice-tinged dark fruit flavors and slow-building tannins. Score: 93-95 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, April 2016)

DOMAINES SCHLUMBERGER KESSLER GEWURZTRAMINER 2013
AC Alsace Grand Cru

307694 (MS) 750mL $35.00

TASTING NOTE: Sourced in the warm Wanne block (officially: Heisse and Kalte Wanne) the 2013 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Kessler opens with a bright and spicy fruit aroma and some very prominent stony flavors. Very clear and highly elegant, with a smooth acidity and a great fruit intensity on the palate this moelleux yet piquant Traminer from the 2013 "picture book vintage for Gewurztraminer" (Alain Beydon) has a great aging potential though it is lovely to enjoy even today. Drink: 2014-2034. Score: 92 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, June 13, 2015)

JEAN-LUC BALDÈS CLOS TRIGUEDINA LES GALETS MALBEC 2008
AC

473231 (D) 750mL $47.00

TASTING NOTE: Using fruit sourced from a single vineyard with great sun exposure, this wine takes its name from the stony soil. It provides great balance between the dense black fruit and the taut, minerally texture, expressing the essence of Malbec in Cahors. It certainly needs several years of aging. Editors' Choice. Score: 95 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, March 2013)

DOM PÉRIGNON CREATORS EDITION MICHAEL RIEDEL CHAMPAGNE 2006
AC

470567 (XD) 750mL $266.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a beautifully balanced, harmonious Dom Pérignon that strikes an incredibly appealing stylistic middle ground. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2006 shows off fabulous intensity in a style that brings together the ripeness of 2002 with the greater sense of verve and overall freshness that is such a signature of the 2004. Bass notes and a feeling of phenolic grip on the finish recall the 2003, as the Pinot Noir is particularly expressive today. After an irregular summer that saw elevated temperatures in July followed by cooler, damp conditions in August, more favorable weather returned in September, pushing maturation ahead and leading to a long, protracted harvest. The 2006 falls into the family of riper, more voluptuous Dom Pérignons, but without veering into the level of opulence seen in vintages such as 2002. Score: 97 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, OCt. 2015)

DOM PÉRIGNON LUMINOUS ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE 2004
AC

429365 (XD) 750mL $330.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé has put on remarkable weight over the last year or so. A rich, voluptuous wine, the 2004 Rosé hits the palate with stunning depth and resonance. The flavors are bold, rich and beautifully resonant from start to finish. Raspberry, cranberry, smoke, spice and crushed rocks build to the stunning, powerful finish. Vinous and ample, the 2004 Rosé will drink well for decades. The 2004 just keeps getting better with time in bottle. Score: 96 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, July 2015)

HUBERT PAULET TRADITION DEMI SEC 1er CRU CHAMPAGNE
AC

460857 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: This is a grower Champagne, which means that it's crafted using only grapes from the estate's own vineyards. These wines, unlike other Champagnes - which are crafted to create a consistent and distinct house style - can taste quite different, offering unique expressions of the particular vineyards year over year. This is one of the factors that makes these artisanal wines so appealing. This one from Hubert Paulet is super crisp, offering suggestions of toast, binned apple, tomato paste and ginger spice with a superb mineral note and a wonderful touch of sweetness on the finish. (VINTAGES panel, Feb. 2016)

KRUG GRANDE CUVÉE BRUT CHAMPAGNE
AC

38588 (XD) 375mL $147.00

TASTING NOTE: This is all about balance and the integration of power and finesse, with finely honed acidity supporting flavors of quince paste, dried black cherry, spun honey and candied orange zest, while rich notes of roasted walnut, coffee liqueur and toasted cardamom resonate on the finish. TASTING NOTE: Rich and tightly knit, this powerful Champagne shows refined integration of the firm frame, smoky minerality, plush texture and an expressive range of grilled nut, baked peach, biscuit and blackberry flavors. Accents of orchard blossom, oyster shell, incense and espresso add detail on the finish. Disgorged 2014. Drink now through 2025. Score: 93 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Nov. 15, 2015)

HENRI BOURGEOIS LA BOURGEOISE SANCERRE BLANC 2013
AC

469148 (D) 750mL $44.00

TASTING NOTE: Produced from the oldest vines on the Bourgeois family estate, this is a flint and steel-textured wine. The fruit is still coming through the intense texture of this complex wine. The hints of apple and grapefruit will develop as the wine ages. Unlike so many Sancerre, this needs to age. Drink from 2018. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, May 2016)

CHÂTEAU DE LA RAGOTIÈRE VALLET MUSCADET SÈVRE & MAIN 2012
AC

469544 (XD) 750mL $23.00

TASTING NOTE: Aged on its lees for 30 months and bottled in March 2015, this is an exceptional Muscadet. It still has plenty of freshness along with a tight, mineral texture and lightly smoky flavors. The concentration gives the wine richness while it remains bone dry and crisp. It is ready to drink. Score: 92 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 2016)

CHÂTEAU CASTIGNO SAINT-CHINIAN 2010
AC

473728 (XD) 750mL $35.00

TASTING NOTE: More structured, the 2010 Saint Chinian Chateau is comprised of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 15% Carignan and the balance Mourvedre. Completely destemmed and aged in stainless steel (Grenache and Mourvedre) and new barrels, it's a pure, concentrated and layered Saint Chinian that offers loads of licorice laced black cherry and currant fruit, toasted spice, graphite and roasted meats in a full-bodied, ripe and concentrated package. It's a knockout bottle of wine that will have over a decade of longevity when all is said and done. Score: 92 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, April 29, 2014)

LA BERGERIE DU CAMP DE NYILS CÔTES DU ROUSSILLON LES ASPRES 2009

475137 (XD) 500mL $69.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2009 Côtes du Roussillon Les Aspres Bergerie du Camps de Nyils (same blend and élevage as the 2012) offers rocking notes of blackcurrants, spice box, dried herbs and assorted Provencal herbs on the nose. Full-bodied, elegant, seamless and with still present, yet sweet and integrated, tannin, this is another rock-star Roussillon from an incredible vigneron. Drink it anytime over the coming 8-10 years. 722215 (XD) 750mL $35.00

This wines was ranked no. 59 in the Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Picks of 2014.

TASTING NOTE: With its ripe acidity, this is a wine that is ready to drink. It shows strong Cabernet Sauvignon ripeness, with a structure that is now soft and generous, along with cushioned tannins and an opulent feel. This is a wine to savor. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, March 2014)

BRÜNDLMAYER KAMPTALER TERRASSEN GRÜNER VELTLINER 2014
DAC Kamptal

979708 (XD) 750mL $28.00

TASTING NOTE: A wonderfully breezy, citrusy scent promises far fuller expression in the future. The palate is tightly coiled too, but already vibrates with pepper and herbal spice. Riper notions of yellow plums creep onto the palate but the spiciness and citrus zest remain, making for a truly long, lip-smacking finish. Score: 92 (Anne Krebiehl, MW, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 2015)

LOIMER STEINMASSL RIESLING 2014
DAC Kamptal

385328 (D) 750mL $63.00

TASTING NOTE: The purity of the nose is glacial and utterly clean-cut. There is an enticing headiness to the lemon and bergamot aromas. This is uncompromisingly citric, with a life force that can revive every single nerve in our body. The citrus spectrum gets its full due in a wine that sparkles and glistens with purity and life itself. Score: 96 (Anne Krebiehl, MW, Wine Enthusiast, March 2016)

PICHLER-KRUTZLER PFAFFENBERG RIESLING 2012
DAC Kremstal

466136 750mL $39.00

TASTING NOTE: From "young" vines (of 40-45 years' age) when compared with those of the small attached parcel of Gruner Veltliner (whose inaugural instantiation I also review in this report), Pichler and Krutzler's 2012 Riesling Pfaffenberg weighs-in at a12.5% alcohol despite not having been picked until October, 20 - several days after Loibenberg was brought at a full degree higher. There is fantastic clarity here allied to infectious juiciness. Pungent juniper berry and sage inflect fresh lime, apple, luscious honeydew and cassis, while a suffusion of crushed stone and smoky black tea serves for contrast with the wine's effusive fruitiness. A veritably kaleidoscopic interplay ensues in the endlessly fascinating and refreshing finish of this exciting debut that should merit following through at least 2020. Score: 94 (David Schildknecht, robertparker.com, April 2014)

EGON MÜLLER-SCHARZHOF SCHARZHOFBERGER RIESLING KABINETT 2015
Pradikätswein

430975 (MS) 750mL $97.00

The Scharzhofberger vineyard is one of the most celebrated vineyard sites on the planet, and there is no debating its importance for Riesling lovers. Likely first planted by the Romans, it belonged to the St. Marien ad Martyres monastery in Trier from its founding, around 700 CE through the Middle Ages. Egon Müller's Rieslings are refined, elegant, pure and finessed, with intense flavours and a near-mythical reputation for their ageability. The 2014 vintage was awarded a rating of 92+ by Stephan Reinhardt of robertparker.com, who cited its full-flavour, complexity, structure and notable minerality. These are always wines to be excited about.

DR. BURKLIN-WOLF WACHENHEIMER ALTENBURG RIESLING TROCKEN P.C. 2014
Pfalz

473256 (XD) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: From a steeper and cooler, east-facing and late ripening vineyard next to the forest, the 2014 Wachenheimer Altenburg Riesling Trocken PC shows a great intensity but also coolish purity on the nose; lemon flavors intermix with chalky sandstone flavors. The great elegance and coolish nature from the nose is reflected on the palate, which is enormously piquant and straight, revealing a stimulating salinity that we normally know from limestone soils; this rejuvenates the power and complexity of this wine, which needs another five years to open up. It should still be fascinating in 20 years. There is so much power and finesse here, so much stimulating salinity - this is simply great Riesling, though not necessarily what you might expect from a Pfalz Riesling. Drink: 2018-2034. Score: 94 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, Oct. 24, 2015)

CHÂTEAU HELLHA 5 PUTTONYOS TOKAJI ASZU 2010
Hungary

469049 (S) 500mL $36.00

TASTING NOTE: Wines designated as Aszu are only produced in exceptional vintages, those years that permit the development of botrytis, otherwise known as 'noble rot.' This desirable fungus does not rot or damage the grapes, but rather results in the shrinking and concentration of the grapes, increasing the levels of sugar, acidity and flavour intensity. It is a key factor in the creation of the world's greatest naturally sweet wines, such as Tokaji. This example offers ripe fruit and dried apricot notes with bright acidity and rich honey tones. (VINTAGES panel, Feb. 2016)

TOKAJI CLASSIC TOKAJI ASZU 6 PUTTONYOS 2003
Hungary

473272 (S) 500mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: This burnished, intense sweet wine exhibits complex layered flavors of Turkish apricot, coffee bean, mango, candied orange and lavender honey. Generous, but firm minerality and juicy acidity drive the long, focused finish, which lingers with notes of spice, green tea and apricot. Drink now through 2023. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Feb. 29, 2012)

MAURO MOLINO BRICCO LUCIANI BAROLO 2012

PIO CESARE BAROLO 2012
DOCG

736587 (XD) 750mL $74.00

TASTING NOTE: This is a young Barolo that builds on the palate with super silky tannins and fantastic pure and delicious fruit. Hints of hazelnut, plum and dark berry character. Full and polished tannins. Better in 2019 but so delicious now. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, March 10, 2016)

PIO CESARE ORNATO BAROLO 2012
DOCG

324186 (XD) 750mL $122.00

ACCORNERO BRICCO BATISTA BARBERA DEL MONFERRATO SUPERIORE 2011

417055 (XD) 750mL $41.00

TASTING NOTE: In this edition of our Guide, the Tre Bicchieri went to the elegant Bricco Battista, with a fabulously concentrated nose and a positively explosive palate in terms of power and length. Score: 3 Glasses out of 3 (Gambero Rosso Italian Wines, 2015)

FONTANAFREDDA LA ROSA BAROLO 2010
DOCG

40105 (D) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: Beautiful velvet, ripe strawberry and rose on the nose. Sophisticated. Well-balanced texture harmonised with a hint of leathery, meaty character. Long, rounded finish. Greatest wine ever from here. Reminds me of the great 1958. Drink now, but better in 2016. Score: 96 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Aug. 22, 2014)

PELISSERO VANOTU BARBARESCO 2010
DOCG

466342 (XD) 750mL $105.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2010 Barbaresco Vanotu is an extremely persuasive expression of Nebbiolo that opens to a dark, brooding color, thick concentration and an attractive dark garnet hue. The personality here is overtly savory and masculine with layers of cured meat and leather that support a wider offering of pressed cherries and tar. The generosity is outstanding. The only element out of place is the tannin that is spectacularly young at this point. This wine won't show its best side for years more to come. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2035. Score: 94 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, June 2013)

GIOVANNI MANZONE GRAMOLERE RISERVA BAROLO 2008
DOCG

472282 (XD) 750mL $109.00

TASTING NOTE: An ethereal red, boasting the elegance and finesse of the vintage. Cherry, strawberry, leather, licorice and tobacco notes are shaded by oak spice, but this has a core of mineral that drives the lingering finish. Shows harmony and restraint overall. Best from 2017 through 2032. Score: 95 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, April 30, 2015)

BERSANO RISERVA BAROLO 2007
DOCG

192278 (XD) 750mL $74.00

TASTING NOTE: This structured wine opens with aromas of forest floor, tobacco leaf, porcini mushroom and dark berries. The concentrated palate delivers crushed black cherry, black pepper, espresso and licorice supported by a tannic backbone. Drink after 2017. Score: 92 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 2014)

GIACOMO BORGOGNO E FIGLI RISERVA BAROLO 1997
DOCG

314138 (XD) 750mL $138.00

TASTING NOTE: Shows how well the 1997s are holding on. Gorgeous aromas of flowers, berries and leather. Very silky tannins. Full-bodied, with a caressing, long finish. Beautiful blackberry, plum and floral undertones. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, June 19, 2013)

CALCAGNO ARCURIA ETNA ROSSO 2011
DOC

455592 (XD) 750mL $35.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Etna Arcuria (85% Nerello Mascalese and 15% Nerello Cappuccio) reveals a light garnet color and luminous transparency. Despite the delicate nature of the wine's appearance, it packs a powerful punch in the mouth with tight, dusty tannins, dried currant and cassis overtones. It's a medium-bodied wine overall with an extremely long sense of persistence on the finish. It imparts both elegance and power and that's always a fine line to achieve for any winery. I'd suggest a few more years of bottle evolution. Score: 92 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Aug. 18, 2014)

BARONE RICASOLI CASALFERRO 2013
IGT Toscana

122598 (XD) 750mL $52.00

TASTING NOTE: A silky, polished red, boasting cherry, currant, iron, tobacco and spice flavors. Features a solid core of tannins, but also vibrant acidity and fine length. Merlot. Best from 2018 through 2029. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Aug. 31, 2016)

CASANOVA DI NERI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2011
DOCG

472340 (XD) 1500mL $184.00

TASTING NOTE: Giacomo Neri has produced a very approachable wine in this warm vintage. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is plump and juicy with loads of dark fruit and mild spice at the back. It doesn't have the depth or complexity of the gorgeous 2010 vintage, but the wine does a very good job presenting the main traits you look for in Brunello. The fruit is lively and the acidity gives the wine a sense of buoyancy and brightness. The tannins are very well integrated. It doesn't reach Brunello greatness, but it is a good Brunello. Drink: 2017-2026. Score: 92 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Jan. 22, 2016)

CASTELLO DI BOSSI CORBAIA 2011
IGT Toscana

393512 (XD) 750mL $67.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Corbaia is superb. Iron, smoke, chalk and a host of ferrous, savory notes draw the taster in. Far from an easy going or blowsy 2011, the Corbaia stands out with its impressive structure and persistence, both of which balance the ripeness of the year nicely. This powerhouse Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon blend could use another few years in bottle to fully come together, but it is impressive today. Readers should expect a wine built on structure and tension, with distinctly terroir-inflected notes pushed forward and fruit that sits more in the background. This is also a rare 2011 that needs time in bottle to fully open up. Drinking window: 2018-2031. Score: 93+ (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Sept. 2015)

CONTI COSTANTI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2011
DOCG

19729 (D) 750mL $93.00

TASTING NOTE: Heady scents of forest floor, ripe berry, fragrant blue flower, grilled herb and a whiff of eucalyptus emerge on this superb wine. The elegantly structured palate offers juicy wild cherry, black raspberry, star anise, mint and baking spice while well-integrated tannins provide the framework. Balanced and already approachable, it also shows good mid-term aging potential. Drink through 2026. Score: 95 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, May 2016)

GIANNI BRUNELLI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2011
DOCG

30478 (XD) 750mL $76.00

TASTING NOTE: Classic Sangiovese aromas of tilled soil, wild berry, new leather and chopped Mediterranean herb lead the nose along with a whiff of blue flower. The delicious, chewy palate doles out juicy Marasca cherry, black raspberry, baking spice and star anise framed in youthfully assertive but ripe tannins. Drink 2019-2029. Cellar Selection. CASTELLO DI MONSANTO NEMO VIGNETO IL MULINO 2010
IGT Toscana

738906 (D) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2010 Nemo Vigneto Il Mulino is the most masculine of Castello di Monsanto's new releases, yet it remains one of the most feminine and ethereal expression of Cabernet Sauvignon found in Tuscany. Instead of boldness and brawn, this wine delivers streamlined elegance and pointed aromas of dark fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and balsam herb. Those licorice and rosemary flavors give the wine an all-Italian personality. Score: 92+ (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Oct. 3, 2015)

FOSSACOLLE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

309880 (D) 750mL $64.00

TASTING NOTE: Bursting with dark cherries from the start, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino shows its youth, but also shows its aging potential. The wine seems excited and anxious to embark on a long evolutionary trajectory. I say that because of the inner vitality and energy that burns within this dark ruby-colored Brunello. The tannins are wound tight, nervous and require more time to soften. The fruit notes are prominent and fresh, but there's enough licorice, herb and blue flower to count on emerging complexity. All these elements should line up smoothly in five years from now. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Jan. 13, 2015)

FUMANELLI AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA 2011
DOCG

475053 (XD) 750mL $75.00

The Fumanelli family have been producing grapes from their estate in the heart of Valpolicella since 1470. Their Amarone is known not only for its rich and powerful frame, and also for delivering an exquisite elegance and poise. This will be a wine of refinement and balance that will evoke notions of dried meat, herbs, spice box and tar.

MASI RISERVA COSTASERA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO RISERVA 2011
DOC

348037 (D) 1500mL $150.00

To craft the Riserva Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Masi, the maestros of Amarone combine the region's three classic red grapes - Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara - with Oseleta, a native Veneto variety that Masi is responsible for rediscovering. The resulting wine will be aromatic with rich layers of black fruit and smoke in a finessed and balanced frame. Truly a classic expression of Veneto from one of the leading aristocracies of Italian winemaking. This wine's great ageability is just the beginning.

GIUSEPPE QUINTARELLI ALZERO 2006
IGT Veneto

402156 (XD) 750mL $582.00

'Quintarelli' is a name that is virtually interchangeable with 'superlative.' There are few names so revered, so truly iconic and so readily identified with quality, tradition and artisanal winemaking. The care, precision and, above all, the patience that goes into making the wines of Quintarelli play no small part in creating the legendary, almost mythical status that the wines own. The primarily old-vine Cabernet Franc Alzero is made using the appassimento technique in which the grapes are dried before being pressed and made into wine. The style embodies the uncompromising perfection that lies at the heart of these phenomenal, concentrated and intensely flavoured handmade wines that routinely earn ratings in the 90-97 range from many of the world's most respected critics.

At the time of publication, the 2006 Quintarelli Amarone della Valpolicella Classico had yet to be reviewed, but it is in no way idle speculation to predict that the 2006 will demonstrate all of the power, quality and marked beauty of previous vintages. Recent vintages have earned scores in the mid to high 90s from the world's most prestigious wine critics, as no doubt will the 2006. Giuseppe Quintarelli passed away in 2012 at the age of 84, but his legacy and profound influence upon the world of wine will be as ageless as his magical wines.

REGAJAL GALIA 2013
DO Vinos de Madrid

467233 (XD) 750mL $64.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Galia is mostly old-vine Tempranillo with some 7% Garnacha from very old vineyards in different villages around the Duero River. The grapes from different soils fermented separately with indigenous yeasts and one third full clusters, except the Garnacha which was 100% full-cluster. The different lots matured separately for some 19 months, most in used 225- and 600-liter French barriques and part in egg-shaped cement vats. This is again extremely fresh, floral, almost citric, open, exuberant, elegant and harmonious with no traces of oak whatsoever. It's hard to decide between this and the 2012, and at the end of the day, they are slightly different; here it is spicier with a faint herbal touch, but finally at a very similar qualitative level. Both wines reflect very well what each vintage was, but with a common thread of the same places and grapes. This is an awesome value. Drink: 2015-2022. Score: 94+ (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 25, 2015)

BALBAS GRAN RESERVA 2006
DO Ribera del Duero

85373 (XD) 750mL $61.00

TASTING NOTE: Tar and sanguine notes frame the plum, licorice and mineral flavors in this savory red, which has good density, with firm tannins and balsamic acidity providing solid structure. Spice and smoke details linger on the finish. Drink now through 2024. Score: 92 (Thomas Matthews, winespectator.com, Oct. 15, 2014)

MARQUÉS DE RISCAL GRAN RESERVA 2006
DOCa Rioja

990309 (D) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2006 Gran Reserva has been in bottle since 2009 and has had time to acquire the nuances of the bottle-aged aromas transporting you to the Riojas of yesteryear: A combination of cherries in liqueur with spices, touches of leather and a creamy feeling with the twist of the American oak on the nose. The palate is silky, with fully-resolved tannins, very polished and sleek, with flavors of cherries on the quite long ending. This was a ripe vintage, but the wine seems to have aged quite well in a very traditional way. Very approachable Gran Reserva. Score: 91 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Jan. 26, 2015)

DOMAINE QUEYLUS LE GRANDE RESERVE PINOT NOIR 2012
VQA Niagara Peninsula

392878 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: A remarkable congruence finds peace in which juicy hydration wraps and sloshes around a core of deeply resonant dry extract. Here the highest level of exceptionality is made possible by the thermohygrostatic control of both temperature and humidity. The achievement is not lost to find belief in Pinot Noir's capability to unearth a sense of age in its youth. This '12 has that impossibility factor from the outset. The waves of delicacy are like the gears of perfect machinery from somewhere in the early industrial age past. The red fruit aromas and flavours of strawberry will pass through the engine and slowly turn into compote, developing beauty with time and without any intrusions or additions. I wouldn't call this Pinot Noir overly complex but it is so amazingly pure and will live long. Drink 2016-2024. Score: 91 (Michael Godel, winealign.com, Dec. 24, 2015)

13th STREET GRAND CUVÉE BLANC DE NOIRS 2007
VQA Niagara Peninsula

361394 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: A fine follow up to the exceptional 2006 Grande Cuvée, the 2007 has retained extraordinary freshness and purity in this much warmer vintage, without sacrificing full flavour maturity and depth. The mousse is very fine and gentle; malolactic fermentation was prevented in order to retain the incisive malic acid, which drives through the long finish. Dosage was just 2 grams of sugar, and this is indeed virtually bone dry, yet this is anything but austere or shrill: there's a real sense of richness and fleshy fruit on the palate. Sautéed green apple, fresh ginger, baked bread, orange, lemon, and lemon custard notes linger on beautifully, and this comes across as fresher than the 2006 at the same age, and should continue to gain in complexity over the next 3-6 years, though it's delicious now to be sure. Score: 93 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, Oct. 20, 2013)

ELDERTON ASHMEAD SINGLE VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Barossa Valley, South Australia

952309 (XD) 750mL $71.00

TASTING NOTE: Rich and expressive, with wild blackberry, licorice and chocolate notes that are velvety and smooth, revealing hints of mahogany and five-spice powder that linger on the persistent finish. Drink now through 2026. Score: 92 (MaryAnn Worobiec, winespectator.com, July 31, 2016)

FIRST DROP FAT OF THE LAND GREENOCK SHIRAZ 2012
Barossa Valley

466169 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: This red is supple and plush, with graceful tannins and ripe, succulent flavors of cherry and cassis. Accents of dried violet, sandalwood and cigar box linger on the long finish. Drink now through 2030. Score: 94 (MaryAnn Worobiec, winespectator.com, March 31, 2016)

HENSCHKE KEYNETON EUPHONIUM 2012
Barossa Valley

407577 (XD) 750mL $76.00

TASTING NOTE: Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Keyneton Estate Shiraz Euphonium explodes from the nose with lifted cherry, blackberry and mulberry notes over suggestions of licorice, sandalwood, bay leaves and cedar. Medium-bodied with mouth-filling cherry, berry and spice box flavors, it has a solid backbone of grainy tannins and lively acid, finishing very long. Score: 93+ (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, June 2015)

TORBRECK THE LAIRD 2010
Barossa Valley, South Australia

402974 (XD) 750mL $900.00

TASTING NOTE: Very deep purple-black colored, Torbreck's 2010 The Laird offers an extraordinary perfume of Chinese five spice, sandalwood, rose petals, espresso and licorice over a core of prunes, dried mulberries and blackcurrant preserves plus a touch of cloves. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and packed with dried black fruits and exotic spice flavors, the generous fruit is structured with velvety tannins and just enough freshness. It finishes with commendable persistence. Drink: 2015-2029. Score: 98+ (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, May 29, 2015)

NICOLÁS CATENA ZAPATA 2011
Mendoza

396960 (XD) 750mL $112.00

TASTING NOTE: Complex aromas of dark berry, shaved chocolate and minerals. Full-bodied, bright and fruity with a beautiful balance and length. It's so polished and gorgeous. A blend of 80% cabernet sauvignon and 20% malbec. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, June 2, 2015)

CATENA ZAPATA ADRIANNA WHITE STONES CHARDONNAY 2012
Uco Valley

355669 (XD) 750mL $95.00

TASTING NOTE: A wonderful white with mineral, sliced apple and light honey character. Full-bodied, balanced and beautiful. This is fermented in used 600 liter barrels for seven months, and another six months in cask. Drink now. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, June 23, 2015)

ERRAZURIZ THE BLEND COLLECTION RED 2012
Aconcagua Valley

418517 (D) 750mL $36.00

TASTING NOTE: Similarly to the white, the 2012 The Blend Collection Red is also an assemblage of Mediterranean varieties, in this case 50% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah and 10% Carignan, with all the grapes sourced from two vineyards in Aconcagua, Ocoa and Manzanar -- except the Carignan, which comes from Maule, the large appellation where the grape thieves on sandy, granitic soils. After fermenting in stainless steel vatsm the wine was put to mature in second and third use French oak barriques for 18 months. I also felt some reductive notes, so decant in advance, as it was also bottled quite late (December 2014). It has aromas of wild flowers and berries, some aromatic herbs, but without any excess. In fact it feels a little closed, subtle, austere, not showing any heat or signs of ripeness for the vintage. It has some grippy tannins, something that is intended, perhaps the increase in Carignan could be the reason why. Red fruit and floral, with perfectly integrated oak. This has freshness and stuffing to develop in bottle. Score: 92 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Sept. 8, 2015)

AUBERT PINOT NOIR 2013
Sonoma Coast

444166 (XD) 750mL $126.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Pinot Noir is fabulous. Pliant, supple and expressive, the Sonoma Coast is a window into this collection of superb Pinots. Dark red cherries, white flowers, mint and spices are some of the notes that caress the palate in this perfumed, exquisite Pinot Noir from Mark Aubert. At many estates, the Sonoma Coast would be the top of the line; here it is the entry-level bottling. Drinking window: 2015-2025. Score: 93 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Jan. 2015)

CADE RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Howell Mountain

368035 (XD) 750mL $323.00

TASTING NOTE: Lastly, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Howell Mountain (100% Cabernet Sauvignon with a screw cap) tips the scales at 15.9% alcohol. This is another stunningly proportioned, majestic mountain Cabernet, with mulberry, blueberry, blackberry and floral notes that is concentrated, full-bodied and multilayered. This skyscraper-like Cabernet Sauvignon is majestic, super-pure and a stunner. The alcohol is totally hidden, so unless you're paranoid, simply see the number, and have an immediate loss of reason, this is a beautiful, full-throttle, full-bodied wine that is impeccably well-balanced, with great purity, depth and concentration. Drink it over the next 15-20 years. Score: 97 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec.22, 2015)

CORISON CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

390724 (XD) 750mL $142.00

TASTING NOTE: A deep, inky wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is endowed with serious depth. Here the flavors are unusually dark and intense, with plenty of blue and black stone fruits. Graphite, cloves and licorice contribute to an overall impression of gravitas. Far from an easygoing wine, the 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet needs time in bottle to truly shine. Hints of violet, lavender and plum add the final shades of nuance. All of the signatures of the vintage come through beautifully. The translucent, mineral-laced finish is especially appealing. Frankly, it's hard to put the glass down. Drinking window: 2019-2033. Score: 94 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

DAVID ARTHUR ELEVATION 1147 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

478701 (XD) 750mL $334.00

TASTING NOTE: Lastly, usually the most famous wine produced at this winery is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Elevation 1147. Clearly the most backward of the three wines, it possesses more tannin, structure and density. More of a long-term proposition than its two siblings, this wine has a dense purple color, good structure and ripeness, beautiful, flowery crème de cassis and spice. It is intense and full-bodied, but patience will be required. Forget it for the next 4-5 years and drink it over the following 25 or more. Score: 95+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 27, 2015)

O'SHAUGHNESSY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Howell Mountain

328138 (D) 750mL $155.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is O'Shaughnessy's largest cuvée of wine, nearly 3,300 cases from her vineyard, with a final blend that is somewhat unusual - 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 5% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Carménère, and a rather obscure one, 3% St. Macaire. Dense purple in color, with notes of mulberry, blackberry, graphite and spring flowers, the wine has great fruit, a dense, full-bodied mouthfeel, and wonderfully sweet, well-integrated tannin. The acidity is sound, the purity impressive, and the wine long and reassuring. Drink it over the next 20+ years. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 27, 2015)

JANZEN CLOUDY'S VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Napa Valley

53769 (XD) 750mL $208.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Janzen Cloudy's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, which comes from the Dutch Henry Canyon area near both the Switchback and Hourglass Vineyards and sits at a 400-foot elevation, is certainly another stunner. It's rare to see two Cabernet Sauvignons that eclipse anything from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, but I think Jenzen has done that in 2012. One hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon, the Cloudy's Vineyard is opaque purple and displays richness and intensity in its notes of lead pencil shavings intermixed with cedar wood, fruitcake, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. A wine of extraordinary intensity and a long finish, it should drink well for 20-25 years. Score: 96 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 25, 2015)

RAYMOND VINEYARDS JCB #10 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2010
Napa Valley

471011 (D) 750mL $225.00

TASTING NOTE: The word massive barely begins to describe this Cabernet Sauvignon. It aims to compete with anything from Napa Valley, and does so largely successfully. The palate offers waves of ripe blackberries, black currants, dark chocolate and smoky oak flavors. What's harder to put into words is the elegance and balance. Despite its serious heft, the wine feels comfortable in the mouth. Indisputably an ager, it should begin to mellow after 2018, and continue to offer pleasure for many years. Cellar Selection. Score: 95 (Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast, Aug. 2013)

KOSTA-BROWNE ONE SIXTEEN CHARDONNAY 2014
Russian River Valley

359042 (D) 750mL $100.00

From one of California's most exciting and consistent producers, this wine is named for the highway that runs through the appellation (and along which the grapes must travel to get to the winery). Fitting, as the One Sixteen Chardonnay from Kosta-Browne is truly a wine that can take you places. The Pacific-born fogs that cool the vines in the Russian River have given rise to many famous Chardonnay vineyards, and the grapes for this wine were sourced from the very coolest in the region. For their 2014, KB sourced grapes from the Boudreaux, Charles Ranch, El Diablo, Keefer Estate, Laguna Valdez, Ritchie, Woolsey and Zio Tony vineyards, taking advantage of the diversity of soils and expressions they afford. The wine underwent 92% barrel fermentation with the remaining 8% taking place in concrete tanks. This will be a fruity and mineral-driven wine that will exemplify the very best of this amazing region.

DUMOL ESTATE CHARDONNAY 2012
Russian River Valley

470278 (XD) 750mL $119.00

TASTING NOTE: The brilliant 2012 Chardonnay Estate (740 cases) also spent 13 months in barrel (40% new) and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. In 2012, the Estate Vineyard was 7 years of age, and is planted with the Old Wente selection known as the Hyde clone as well as some of the Mt. Eden selection from that iconic winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Elegant as well as powerful, this beautiful Chardonnay exhibits notes of lemon custard, spring flowers, citrus blossoms, orange marmalade, melons and white peaches. The acidity is crisp and well-integrated, and the overall impression is one of beautiful, full-bodied, aromatic and persistent richness. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 18, 2014)

MULLAN ROAD CELLARS RED 2013
Columbia Valley

478198 (XD) 750mL $78.00

TASTING NOTE: Tasted out of barrel and a perfumed, floral, lively blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and a splash of Malbec, the 2013 Columbia Valley Red Wine offers ample black raspberry, sweet cassis, spring flowers and sappy herb-like aromas and flavors. Coming from a mix of Stillwater Creek, Seven Hills and Lawrence vineyards, this rock-star barrel sample has medium to full-bodied richness, fabulous purity and fine tannin that frame the finish. It should be relatively civilized on release, yet evolve gracefully for 15 years. Drink: 2014-2029. Score: 92-94 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, June 2015)

DOMAINE DE RANCY RIVESALTES AMBRÉ VIN DOUX NATUREL 4 ANS D'AGE
AC

471524 (S) 500mL $29.00

TASTING NOTE: This is the result of a solera system; the youngest wine is four years old. Amber colour.. A dry nutty nose. Rounded biscuity palate, quite soft and rounded, with some nutty notes. Wonderful depth of flavour and originality. (Rosemary George, MW, Taste Languedoc Blog, June 26, 2013)

KOPKE COLHEITA TAWNY PORT 1966
DOC

466193 (S) 750mL $212.00

TASTING NOTE: The 1966 Colheita Tawny Port was bottled in 2015 with 126.3 grams per liter of residual sugar, and comes with a bar top cork (as is typical here). As we start getting seriously old in the lineup from Sogevinus this issue, this shows what you get with increasing age: the superb concentration of flavor, the long, intense finishes and the complex medley of flavors that old Tawnies deliver effortlessly. That, to me, is what makes them worth the extra bucks. If some of the youngsters lean more to caramel, this adds more molasses with a touch of Brandy in the background. The concentrated flavors linger more or less endlessly, driven into the palate by the wine's power and acidity. You can smell and taste this for a long time. The graceful mid-palate is deceptively friendly at first. It sure does grip the palate at the end, though, finishing with juicy bursts of fruit and sugar. Over several days, it acquired a bit more harmony and shed a touch of aggression. The alcohol, speaking relatively, is not as well integrated here as with the 1965, also reviewed, but that is relative. I tended to like this just slightly better anyway for its complexity and concentration on several fronts. The freshness on the 1965 is quite enticing, though. It tastes younger. It depends on what you want: that old-wine complexity and depth or a livelier feel. They both have plenty of power on the finish. You can't go wrong, really. Score: 96 (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Jan. 3, 2016)

HIDALGO NAPOLEON AMONTILLADO SHERRY
DO

471094 (S) 500mL $23.00

TASTING NOTE: A fresh, racy style, with a twinge of salted caramel giving way to light golden raisin, singed orange peel and dried fennel seed notes. The dry, refreshing finish has good cut. Drink now. Score: 90 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, Feb. 29, 2016)

VALDESPINO DELICIOSO MANZANILLA
DO

471102 (S) 750mL $24.00

TASTING NOTE: Try a glass of Valdespino's Deliciosa manzanilla, an excellent example of the light, delicate, pale wine that comes to mind when thinking of a mainstream manzanilla. It's lovely as an aperitif, especially with some green olives and marcona almonds. (Eric Asimov, The New York Times, April 23, 2015)

KLEIN CONSTANTIA VIN DE CONSTANCE 2011
WO Constantia

5033 (S) 500mL $99.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine spent 36 months in 60% new French and Hungarian oak. It delivers 152 grams per liter residual sugar with a pH of 3.6. Here it is very perfumed with a dried honey, lanolin, marmalade and melted wax-scented bouquet that is nicely defined. The palate is viscous on the entry with fine acidity, quite sensual in the mouth with orange zest and marmalade notes, almost Barsac-like towards the finish that lingers long in the mouth. Gorgeous (as per usual). Drink: 2015-2034. Score: 93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Oct. 16, 2015)

BALVENIE 25-YEAR-OLD SINGLE BARREL TRADITIONAL OAK SINGLE MALT
Unchillfiltered

421677 700mL $1,500.00

"The Balvenie Single Barrel Traditional Oak is characterized by subtle spices and a rich, honeyed sweetness, and Malt Master David Stewart only selects casks of whisky for bottling that have the character he expects of Balvenie matured for 25 years exclusively in American oak. The Balvenie Single Barrel Traditional Oak Aged 25 Years is a non chill-filtered release with an ABV of 47.8%" (thebalvenie.com). The Balvenie distillery was built by William Grant in 1892. Celebrate over 120 years of tradition and a modern 25-year milestone simultaneously with this momentous single malt.

THE MACALLAN FINE OAK 30 YEARS OLD SPEYSIDE SINGLE MALT

656553 750mL $3,200.00

TASTING NOTE: Colour: Rich golden honey. Nose: Orange and pineapple. Grapefruit. Rich, venerable. Red berries. Body: Full and mouth-coating; creamy. Palate: Orange marmalade dominated , with softer and supportive spice and oak. Drying. Finish: Big on all fronts, with the fruit holding out above the oaky tannins and spiciness. Excellent balance and wonderful, long aftertaste. Score: 91 (Michael Jackson, Malt Whisky Companion, 2010)

THE MACALLAN M HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT
In Lalique Crystal Decanter

354639 750mL $6,500.00

TASTING NOTE: The rich amber-brown of the Macallan M single-malt whisky - a special iteration of the Macallan contained in a hand-blown 750 mL Lalique crystal decanter - is noticeably deeper and darker than even the Scotch maker's iconic 25-year-old whisky. Yet there is no age statement on this bottle, for the spirit is composed of whisky from seven casks selected by the Macallan's master whisky maker, Bob Dalgarno, after more than two years of searching through the Macallan's vast cellars of over 195,000 barrels. The oldest whisky in it was distilled in 1940, and all of them were matured in first-fill oloroso-sherry casks. In the M, Dalgarno has produced something unlike anything the Macallan has ever offered. The Macallan's classic resiny, raisiny richness is abundant in the M, as are plump cherry and fruit-filled sherried overtones, but then comes notes of lemons, leather, cedar, apples, violets, and a long, tobacco-laden finish. Bottled in 2013 at 89 proof, the Macallan M is intended to be an ongoing (albeit rare) addition to the brand's 1824 series of top-tier whiskies. (Richard Carleton Hacker, robbreport.com, Jan. 17, 2014)

GRAN PATRÓN BURDEOS AÑEJO TEQUILA

286690 750mL $700.00

TASTING NOTE: Delightful aromas of dill, asparagus, baked bread and black peppercorn; following aeration subtle notes of vanilla, just-sawn oak, loose leaf tobacco and fennel are added. Entry is poised, sap-like and delicately honeyed; midpalate is regal, satiny textured, rich in grapy yet vegetal and spicy flavor. Concludes long, layered and succulent.
