CHÂTEAU MALARTIC-LAGRAVIÈRE 2010
AC Pessac-Léognan, Grand Cru Classé

484287 (XD) 750mL $134.00

TASTING NOTE: Lead pencil shavings, soy and barbecue smoke as well as red and black currants characterize this brilliant effort, which has an expansive, full-bodied mouthfeel yet a sublime elegance and lightness of being. Dense ruby/purple, gorgeous purity and a long, long finish of close to 50 seconds characterize another brilliant effort from this classified growth in Pessac-Leognan. It should drink nicely for 25-30 years yet is surprisingly accessible even today. Score: 94 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

CHÂTEAU TOUR DE TERMES 2010
AC Saint. Estèphe

484238 (XD) 750mL $48.00

TASTING NOTE: Red cherries, coffee and a stony mineral note. Some sweet tobacco and eucalyptus. Full and intensely juicy on the palate with bright red fruit and fine tannins. Ripe vibrant acidity and a long finish with pure ripe fruit and new wood. Try in 2017. Score: 91 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, March 6, 2013)

CHÂTEAU CARONNE SAINTE-GEMME 2009
AC Haut-Médoc

484246 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: Offers a dark, plush feel, with roasted fig and warm currant preserves notes flowing over dark tobacco and bittersweet cocoa flavors, followed by a solid, tarry-edged finish. Drink now through 2019. Smart Buy. Score: 90 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2012)

CHÂTEAU LATOUR MARTILLAC 2009
AC Pessac-Léognan, Cru Classé

484279 (XD) 750mL $92.00

TASTING NOTE: Offers a very solid core of black Mission fig, blackberry preserves and freshly roasted espresso flavors, woven nicely with hints of alder wood, tar and pastis. The long finish shows polish, with nice grip in reserve. Best from 2013 through 2022. Ranked no. 70 in the Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2012. Score: 92 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2012)

DOMAINE FRANÇOIS LUMPP GIVRY LA BRÛLÉES 1ER CRU 2014
AC

485011 (XD) 750mL $55.00

TASTING NOTE: A completely different aromatic profile presents itself here with notes of black cherry, floral and sandalwood hints. I very much like the mouth feel of the delicious middle weight flavors thanks to the relatively fine grain of the supporting tannins that contribute to the approachability of the lingering finish. Drink: 2019+. Score: 88-90 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 15, 2015)

DOMAINE FRANÇOIS LUMPP GIVRY PIED DU CLOU 1ER CRU 2014
AC

485037 (XD) 750mL $57.00

TASTING NOTE: Here the nose is slightly riper but otherwise quite similar to that of the La Brûlées. There is a beguiling sleekness to the delicious and round medium weight flavors that are not super dense but the mouth feel, particularly on the finish, is really quite lovely. This should drink well young but also reward 3 to 5 years of cellaring. Drink: 2018+ Score: 88-90 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 15, 2015)

MARCHAND TAWSE GEVREY CHAMBERTIN 2014
AC

485052 (XD) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: Summer pudding fruits on the nose with hints of spice, a supple texture and savoury finish. Drinking Window:2018-2024. Score: 92 (Gerard Basset, M.S., MW, decanter.com, Feb. 17, 2016)

DOMAINE MAUME GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN LAVAUX-SAINT-JACQUES 1ER CRU 2013
AC

484196 (XD) 750mL $125.00

TASTING NOTE: (40% new oak): Sexy, high-toned aromas and flavors of raspberry and smoky minerals. Creamy-sweet on the palate, offering lovely immediate sex appeal and finishing with furry tannins and lovely persistence. As with the rest of these 2013s, all of the fruit was destemmed. Drinking window: 2020-2028. Score: 90-93 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, Nov. 2014)

LOUIS JADOT MONOPOLE VOLNAY CLOS DE LA BARRE 1ER CRU 2012
AC

977074 (XD) 750mL $99.00

TASTING NOTE: A similar thread runs through the 2012 Volnay Clos de la Barre. Firm tannins enrobe a core of seriously deep, rich fruit. Here, too, readers will have to be patient, as the 2012 is structured, virile and imposing, and is likely to remain so for some time. Drinking window: 2016 - 2032. Score: 90-92 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Jan. 2014)

MARCHAND TAWSE VOLNAY 2011
AC

469395 (XD) 750mL $61.00

Michael Godel awarded this wine a rating of 92 points. (winealign.com, Dec. 14, 2013).

TASTING NOTE: There's an extra measure of ripeness and exotic aromatics in this '11 Volnay, with a marked floral note and intriguing pomegranate and Turkish Delight nuances - very inviting in any case. The palate is no more than mid-weight, however, and the flavour intensity is modest in the context of the appellation and price category. Tannins are light but firm, while acids further tighten the texture, though I'd still drink this over the mid-term no more - it lacks the stuffing to go further in my view. Best 2014 -2020. Score: 90 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, May 15, 2013)

DOMAINE BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS MONTRACHET GRAND CRU 2014
AC

48074 (XD) 750mL $876.00

TASTING NOTE: (just finished its malo): Clove, flowers, iodine, crushed stone, sea salt, spearmint and lavender on the high-pitched nose. Utterly silky and fine-grained but more restrained today than the Cabottes. Perhaps a bit less complex on the palate in the early going than the Chevalier-Montrachet but already shows strong stony minerality. The superb, very smooth finish builds impressively and lingers. Score: 92-95 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, May 2015)

DOMAINE CHRISTIAN MOREAU PÈRE ET FILS CHABLIS LES CLOS GRAND CRU 2014
AC

42366 (XD) 750mL $74.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos is very impressive from the word go: crisp limestone scents, apple blossom and just a touch of smoke. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, fine definition, very focused and complete with a hint of bitter lemon lending tension. What really marks this out is the outstanding salinity on the finish...you feel as if you have just licked a rock. Maybe I have? This is an outstanding Les Clos from Fabien Moreau. Drink: 2019-2044. Score: 94 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, July 5, 2016)

DOMAINE FRANÇOIS LUMPP GIVRY CLOS DES VIGNES RONDES 2014
AC

485003 (XD) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: A ripe but cool nose features plenty of citrus influence along with green apple and soft floral hints. There is fine detail and energy to the medium weight flavors that exude a lovely minerality and salinity on the refreshing, clean and attractively persistent finale. Drink: 2018+. Score: 88-91 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 15, 2015)

PASCAL BOUCHARD LES VIEILLES VIGNES CHABLIS FOURCHAUME 1ER CRU 2013
AC

478362 (XD) 750mL $44.00

TASTING NOTE: This beautiful wine is beginning to mature. It has great richness and intense green and citrus fruits that are highly textured. Touches of the wood aging still linger and will integrate. Rich, complex and concentrated, the wine needs to age further, so drink from 2018. Score: 94 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, May 2016)

DOMAINE FONT DE MICHELLE CUVÉE ÉTIENNE GONNET CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015
AC

706556 (D) 750mL $77.00

Founded in 1950 by Etienne Gonnet, for whom this wine is named, Domaine Font de Michelle and the Gonnet family can trace their roots in the region back to the early 1600s. The farmhouse that serves as the estate's main building was built in 1880 by Jean Etienne Gonnet, so it should come as no surprise that the Grenache for the Châteauneuf du Pape Etienne Gonnet is sourced from vines that are over 100 years old. This is a wine and a producer with deep roots indeed. Made primarily from this old-vine Grenache, the Etienne Gonnet is a notably rich, complex and ageable wine that also remains approachable enough for immediate consumption. Jeb Dunnuck has called the wines of Domaine Font de Michelle "some of the most perfumed, silky and alluring Châteauneuf du Papes in the appellation." (robertparker.com, Sept. 25, 2014).

DOMAINE DE LA VIEILLE JULIENNE LES HAUTS LIEUX CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2013
AC

446815 (D) 750mL $104.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape les Hauts Lieux incorporates more Mourvèdre (30%) and comes from the late ripening block on the upper plateau to the south of the estate. Inky colored, it gives up killer notes of blueberries, blackberries, licorice, crushed rock and meaty nuances. Medium to full-bodied, structured and tannic with solid concentration, it's one of the more serious wines in the vintage and will need short term cellaring. I suspect it will have 15-20 years of longevity. Score: 93+ (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 25, 2015)

E. GUIGAL LA MOULINE CÔTE-RÔTIE 2012
AC

393413 (XD) 750mL $482.00

TASTING NOTE: Possessing slightly more purity (but maybe not the complexity) than the 2011, the 2012 Cote Rotie la Mouline offers a heavenly perfume of cured meats, pecking duck, violets and cassis. This flows to a full-bodied, seamless, absolutely hedonistic Cote Rotie that has good acidity, ripe, polished tannin and a great finish. Of the three single parcel Cote Roties, it's the most approachable, but will still drink beautifully for three decades or more. Score: 96-98 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Nov. 15, 2015)

E. GUIGAL HERMITAGE 2011
AC

707372 (D) 750mL $77.00

TASTING NOTE: Showing even better than last year, the 2011 Hermitage shows the more exuberant, sexy and sunny nature of the vintage to a T. Toasted bread, vanilla bean, black raspberries and spiced meat-like aromas all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, forward, seamless beauty that will deliver tons of pleasure over the coming 15 or more years. Score: 93 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Nov. 16, 2015)

DOMAINE BARVÍLLE ROUSSANNE CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2014
AC

478339 (D) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: Brotte's 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Domaine Barville Roussanne Blanc is a smokin' effort that makes the most of the vintage. Made from 100% Roussanne (from the Beaurenard and Rayas lieux-dits) that was raised all in new oak for right months, it offers fabulous notes of tropical fruits, buttered citrus, brioche and a kiss of honeysuckle to go with a medium-bodied, textured, balanced style on the palate. It's a rich, food-friendly wine that will shine on the dinner table over the coming 4-5 years (maybe more). Score: 93 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 18, 2015)

RUINART BLANC DE BLANCS BRUT CHAMPAGNE
AC

62984 (XD) 750mL $109.00

TASTING NOTE: This deftly woven Champagne is all about finesse, offering a rich vein of smoky minerality and vivid acidity. The power is cloaked in a silky texture and notes of creamed pear, lemon confit, almond biscotti and fresh ginger. Drink now through 2021. Score: 93 (Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, Dec. 31, 2014)

TARLANT CUVÉE LOUIS EXTRA BRUT CHAMPAGNE
AC

293811 (XD) 750mL $96.00

TASTING NOTE: The NV Extra Brut Cuvée Louis is based on 1999, with reserve wines from 1996, 1997 and 1998. Here the style is decidedly on the oxidative side, with plenty of warm, nutty and spice overtones that develop in the glass. Almond, hazelnut, orange jam, cinnamon and white pepper all make an appearance. Rich, broad and creamy on the palate, the Cuvée Louis is an excellent choice for drinking today, as the flavors are already a bit forward. The Cuvée Louis will appeal most to readers who enjoy vinous Champagnes. The 1999 is 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay. Disgorged July 2014. Dosage is 1.8 grams/liter. Drinking window: 2015-2022. Score: 95 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, March, 2015)

FACE NORD BRUT MILLESIMEE GRAND CRU 2006
AC

485060 (XD) 750mL $96.00

TASTING NOTE: Produced only from Grand Cru vineyards on the north side of the Montagne de Reims (with some Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs), this wine is beautifully balanced. It is rich and creamy, with just a zing of mineral acidity to give extra freshness. It is just now ready to drink, still fresh although with touches of toast at the end. Score: 95 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 2016)

MACARICO ALTO VULTURE AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE 2012
DOC

480079 (D) 750mL $35.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Aglianico del Vulture Alto Vulture Macarico is an extremely mineral-driven wine with delineated layers of pencil shaving, brimstone and graphite. The fruit is dark and brooding, recalling dried blackberry, plum and candied figs. There is little sweetness or softness in the mouth and what exists is immediately overwhelmed by the tannic tightness and firm structure. Like other wines from the Vulture, the finish is driven by dark, ashy tones. Drink Date: 2015-2025. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, March 28, 2015)

TENUTA PONTE TAURASI 2006
DOCG

105544 (D) 750mL $34.00

TASTING NOTE: A wine of stature and grace, this has the deep red color of a ripe plum and a transparent mist of flavor perfuming its fruit. You might find scents of hen of the woods mushrooms, or roses and garden soil, of lasting red spice and deeper tones of red fruit. The tannins are lean and vertical, held firmly in place by acidity, set for years of development ahead. Best Buy. Score: 95 (Joshua Greene, wineandspiritsmagazine.com, June 2014)

CA' DEL BOSCO CUVÉE ANNAMARIA CLEMENTI FRANCIACORTA 2006
DOC

484162 (XD) 750mL $135.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2006 Franciacorta Cuvée Annamaria Clementi Brut Riserva is a landmark wine that is only made in the best vintages. The blend consists of Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero and the various characteristics of each variety come together with spectacular precision. This is a seamless effort with apricot, exotic fruit, freshly baked baguette and warm, yeasty notes with crushed mineral and menthol herb on the close. The richness of the wine's texture is what really stands out. This is a creamy and enduring effort that wraps thickly over the palate with soft mousse and foamy effervescence. The blend is 55% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Nero and 25% Pinot Bianco. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Aug. 23, 2015)

CONTERNO FANTINO SORÌ GINESTRA BAROLO 2012
DOCG

105502 (XD) 750mL $105.00

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of ripe strawberry, violet, rose petal and sandalwood follow through a full body, round and very silky tannins and a long and linear finish. The tannin texture caresses for minutes. Better in 2020. Score: 96 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, March 10, 2016)

RENATO CORINO ROCCHE DELL'ANNUNZIATA BAROLO 2012
DOCG

477646 (D) 750mL $89.00

TASTING NOTE: Very strong aromas of rose petal and dried strawberry with a brick dust undertone. Full body, focused and tight. Chewy and polished tannins. Very long finish. Score: 94 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, March 10, 2016)

TENUTA L'ILLUMINATA TEBAVIO LA MORRA BAROLO 2011
DOCG

478511 (D) 750mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: Beautiful aromas of oranges, berries and chocolate with hints of hazelnuts. Full body, silky tannins and a refined finish. A fascinating red. Drink in 2017 but difficult not to enjoy now. Score: 94 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, April 13, 2015)

FEUDO MONTONI VRUCARA NERO D'AVOLA 2011

TASTING NOTE: The delicious 2011 Nero d'Avola Vrucara is one of the protagonists of Sicilian enology. Fabio Sireci is on an explosive upward trajectory that started at an already impressive quality level. His wines just get better and better. By law, a wine labeled Nero d'Avola must be 85% true to the variety, and I don't know if anything else is added here, but it hardly matters. Vrucara sees fruit sourced from the Principato di Villanova property in central Sicily. The wine is loaded tight with bold berry intensity, olive tapenade, hummus, crushed earth, tobacco and balsam herb. You rarely see this level of complexity with Nero d'Avola. I love everything about this beautiful wine. Fruit is sourced from 90-year-old pre-pylloxera vines. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Jan. 12, 2016)

LE MACCHIOLE BOLGHERI ROSSO 2014
DOC

483412 (XD) 750mL $33.00

Founded in 1983 by Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli, Le Macchiole is a success story born of passion, dedication, experimentation, persistence and expertise. Cinzia Merli and her team strive to bring forth the most precise expression of their land possible - as do all serious and skilled winemakers. The difference here was summed up beautifully by Monica Larner when she said: "Cinzia Merli and her expert team (with consulting enologist Luca D'Attoma) have this extraordinary capacity of transmitting the poise and grace they possess as people to the wines they make." (robertparker.com, Aug. 28th, 2013). When you taste this blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, you are not only experiencing the special terroir of Bolgheri, you are meeting the people who made it. That makes this a truly special wine. The 2011, 2012 & 2013 vintages of this wine were all rated 90 points by robertparker.com.

ARGIANO SOLENGO 2012
IGT Toscana

43398 (D) 750mL $81.00

TASTING NOTE: A dense, monolithic red, saturated with black cherry, blackberry, cedar, leather and tobacco flavors. Well-integrated, presenting a tightly knit texture, this ends in a cascade of fruit, spice and earth notes. Complete but needs time. Best from 2018 through 2027. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Sept. 30, 2015)

CASTELLO DI VOLPAIA COLTASSALA CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA 2012
DOCG

477653 (D) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: There's a lot to love on this juicy, delicious wine, starting with aromas of ripe, dark-skinned berry, baking spice, leather, sun baked soil and menthol. The elegant, structured palate delivers ripe black cherry, cinnamon, anise and tobacco while firm, polished tannins provide support and finesse. A blast of orange zest signals the close. Score: 94 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, June 2016)

MASTROJANNI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2011
DOCG

485151 (XD) 750mL $69.00

TASTING NOTE: Mastrojanni is on a roll. This extraordinary estate has been enjoying the spotlight lately and very much deserves the attention. I'm adding my name to a long list of their fans. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a classic expression of Sangiovese with soft lines and enduring flavors. You do feel some of the vintage heat, but the ripeness is contained thanks to the delicate and nuanced nature of its fruit. It also shows enormous grace in the mouth. The wine is silky and svelte with long, polished tannins. Mastrojanni's wines are linked by a common characteristic that is easy to identify in most vintages. That common denominator is excellent oak management. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Jan. 12, 2016)

FULIGNI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA 2010
DOCG

294090 (D) 750mL $178.00

TASTING NOTE: Wonderful aromas of dried mushrooms, flowers, plums, nuts and cedar. Complex. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long, flavorful finish. I love the finish. Such elegance. Racy and very long. Superb. What a wine. I always love this. Drink or hold. Score: 99 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Sept. 30, 2015)

TOLAINI TENUTA MONTEBELLO PICCONERO 2010
IGT Toscana

181784 (XD) 750mL $94.00

TASTING NOTE: A compelling blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the 2010 Picconero Tenuta Montebello packs a powerful punch in terms of density and concentration. This expression is rich and chewy with dark cherry and blackberry as protagonist. Solid supporting roles are played by tobacco, spice and bitter dark chocolate. The 2010 vintage shows a superior sense of finesse and silkiness in the mouth. Picconero can be put aside for long cellar aging. Score: 94 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Aug. 28, 2014)

ISOLE E OLENA CHIANTI CLASSICO GRAN SELEZIONE 2006
DOCG

483503 (XD) 750mL $314.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2006 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a controversial wine and for good reason. Proprietor Paolo De Marchi was initially opposed to the idea of introducing the Gran Selezione category above the Chianti Classico Riserva. But more than a year ago, the Institute of Masters of Wine held a special dinner in Florence and producers were invited to pour only Gran Selezione wines. Paolo had an amazing barrel of Sangiovese put aside for a commemorative wine to celebrate his 30th anniversary as a winemaker. He hoped to dedicate that wine as a special limited release. Because he also wanted to pour something of his at the Masters of Wine dinner, he declassified the wine and re-registered it as a Gran Selezione. This also explains why it is from an older vintage. Most of his peers inaugurated this new category with the 2010 vintage. Only 1,800 bottles were made (of which 500 are put aside for the family's personal use) and the blend consists of Sangiovese with 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Syrah. "I love Chianti Classico and I love super Tuscans," says Paolo De Marchi. "This wine is a crossover of the two." The wine shows gorgeous ripeness with brooding dark fruit, depth and extreme balance. This is a wine that makes a statement upfront both in terms of the quality of the aromas and its overall integrity and persistency. Score: 97 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Sept. 28, 2015)

LA RIOJA ALTA GRAN RESERVA 904 2005
DOCa Rioja

91975 (D) 750mL $76.00

TASTING NOTE: One look, one whiff, one taste and you're swooning. This mature, tawny, ready-to-drink gran reserva with aromas of lemon peel, cedar and dried cherry is the epitome of elegance. A juicy, supple palate is highly approachable, while flavors of vanilla, orange peel, saffron and dried plum don't waver on the finish. Drink through 2027. Editors' Choice. Score: 96 (Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, April 2016)

LEEUWIN ESTATE ART SERIES CHARDONNAY 2010
Margaret River

481630 (XD) 1500mL $265.00

TASTING NOTE: There's a very assertive nose here that has a gently flinty edge, some nicely handled oak and hints of pithy lemon across more peachy stone fruits; tropical hints too, plus a chalky element. Very fresh and tightly wound. The palate has a very composed style to it with great depth and oak integration; long and powerful but quite sleek through the middle. A great example, this is tightly coiled for now and releases a slow-burning grilled nut flavor through the finish. The Aston Martin of chardonnay, with sleek lines and plenty of power under the hood. Drink in 2018. Score: 98 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 5, 2015)

THE ELDER PINOT NOIR 2014
Martinborough

483735 (XD) 750mL $52.00

TASTING NOTE: Elegant, fruit-focused pinot noir with dark cherry, plum, raspberry and a hint of floral and violet character plus a seasoning of oak. A delicately succulent wine that is accessible and appealing but promises to age well. Drink 2016 to 2023. Score: 95 (Bob Campbell, MW, bobcampbell.nz, April 8, 2016)

RUSTENBERG PETER BARLOW 2009
WO Simonsberg Stellenbosch

425314 (XD) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2009 Peter Barlow Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the oldest vines on the property, two years in oak of which 70% is new, receiving an extended amount of time in bottle. It has a very intense bouquet, almost over-powering at first, with bright blackberry, fig jam, fresh dates and allspice aromas soaring from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins. This is a thickly textured Cabernet, almost honeyed, with powerful fruit on the peacock's tail finish. It will need 4-6 years in bottle before it settles down, though there is great potential. Score: 93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Sept. 15, 2015)

VIÑA COBOS MALBEC 2013
Mendoza

480434 (XD) 750mL $290.00

TASTING NOTE: The transparency and beauty to this wine is extraordinary. Blackberry, walnut, spice and tile or terra-cotta that comes from the clay soils. Salty undertone. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and finesse. It goes on for minutes. Another magical single vineyard wine from here. Score: 99 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, May 20, 2016)

SEA SMOKE SOUTHING PINOT NOIR 2014
Santa Rita Hills

9795 (XD) 750mL $105.00

Sea Smoke was started in 1999 by Bob Davids, a fan of Burgundy and the CEO of a computer game company. Pinot Noir was first produced here in 2002, and Sea Smoke's offerings are among the most highly sought after in California. The name, Sea Smoke, is an allusion to the evening fogs that flow in from the Pacific Ocean through the Santa Ynez River canyon, which falls between the Santa Rita and Santa Ynez mountains. The fog is a key factor in creating ideal conditions for the development of the high-quality Pinot Noir for which Sea Smoke is renowned. The fogs allow for perfectly balanced fruit by cooling the grapes and preserving their bright acidity after the long, sunny and warm days - which help to drive the ripening and flavour development. Sea Smoke Pinots are precise, beautifully textured, elegant and nuanced expressions of the grape that are undeniably Californian, while also showing a refined eloquence and deference to the wines of Burgundy that so inspired Bob Davids.

SEA SMOKE TEN PINOT NOIR 2014
Santa Rita Hills

59014 (D) 750mL $140.00

TASTING NOTE: Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Upon opening, oak-infused aromas and flavors combine with a fruit-charged core of dark cherry, blackberry, pomegranate and spice. The wine showed much less oak overlay when tasted the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle when the fruit became front and center. Boldly styled, with delicious fruit expression, supportive tannins, and integrated acidity. A masculine interpretation of Pinot Noir, yet not highly muscled, offering a soft, approachable tone, and a refreshingly juicy finish. Decant this beauty when you pull the cork. Score: 94 (William Gaffney, princeofpinot.com, June 18, 2016)

ROCCA VESPERA RED 2013
Napa Valley

481275 (XD) 750mL $74.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Vespera Proprietary Red is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Syrah and 6% Merlot reflecting the family's affection for Rhône Valley grapes. A deep, dark ruby/purple color, loads of blackberry, roasted meat, Mediterranean lavender and licorice are all present in this full-bodied, complex and sexy wine. This is by far the most nuanced and multifaceted of the Rocca wines, but also the most drinkable. Soft tannins, low acidity and a big, fat, fleshy, meaty Syrah working beautifully with the Cabernet Sauvignon -- this is a stunner and a great example of an intelligent blend. Drink it over the next 7-8 years Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 26, 2015)

STAG'S LEAP WINE CELLARS CASK 23 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

991919 (XD) 750mL $279.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Cask 23 is backward, but concentrated, with beautiful blue, red and black fruits, spring flowers, a touch of toasty oak, relatively noticeable tannin and a full-bodied, multi-layered mouthfeel. This is coiled tight compared to the 2012, but has fabulous upside potential. Forget it for another 3-4 years and drink it over the following 25-30 years. Score: 97+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 26, 2015)

FORT ROSS CHARDONNAY 2014
Sonoma Coast

481648 (XD) 750mL $66.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Chardonnay Fort Ross Vineyard is a beauty. It spent 10 months in 30% new French oak (785 cases) and shows notes of crushed wet rock, crisp orange blossom, white currant and discrete oak. Some poached pear also makes an impression in this unfined and unfiltered Chardonnay that should drink nicely for 5 to 7 years. Score: 94 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2016)

BIEN NACIDO SOLOMON HILLS CHARDONNAY 2013
Santa Maria Valley

481341 (XD) 750mL $81.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Chardonnay Solomon Hills boasts superb breadth and intensity, with an element of pure power that is impossible to miss. The flavors are dense, stony and mineral-driven to the core. Today, the 2013 is a baby, but it also offers outstanding potential. I preferred it slightly to the Bien Nacido. Drinking window: 2017-2023. Score: 95+ (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, June 2015)

EVENING LAND LA SOURCE PINOT NOIR 2013
Seven Springs Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills

239996 (XD) 750mL $128.00

TASTING NOTE: Fresh and inviting, open-textured and appealing, with cherry, floral and mineral flavors gliding smoothly into a harmonious finish. Has terrific presence, depth and persistence. Drink now through 2021. Score: 93 (Harvey Steiman, winespectator.com, Feb. 29, 2016)

CHATEAU DERESZLA 5 PUTTONYOS TOKAJI ASZÚ 2007
Hungary

452219 (S) 500mL $56.00

TASTING NOTE: Ripe, intense and dynamic, with juicy layers of sweet pineapple, apricot and mango puree. Generous yet tightly focused, with an abundance of vanilla bean, mace and other exotic spices that emerge on the long finish. Drink now through 2027. Ranked no. 20 on Wine Spectator Top 100 wines of 2013. Score: 95 (Nathan Wesley, winespectator.com, June 15, 2013)

ISOLE E OLENA VIN SANTO DEL CHIANTI CLASSICO 2006
DOC

25684 (MS) 375mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2006 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is a divine dessert wine that boasts the best of this labor-intensive winemaking tradition. Vintners who make Vin Santo will always tell you that they do so for passion. The quantities are so small and the commercial margins so thin, pure passion is the only reason someone would embark on this kind of project. Happily for us wine lovers, people like Paolo De Marchi have that passion. His Vin Santo is one of the best available today. The wine is impeccable and beautiful inside and out. Caramel, maple syrup, roasted pine nut and dried apricot emerge from the bouquet. I find this wine to be simply irresistible for those with a sweet tooth and those without. Score: 96 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Sept. 29, 2015)

TAYLOR FLADGATE VINTAGE PORT 2000
DOC Douro, Btld. 2002

123661 (S) 750mL $240.00

Wine Enthusiast (in 2007) and Wine Spectator (in 2003) gave this Port scores of 96 and 95, respectively.

TASTING NOTE: Among the most saturated blue/purple/black-colored examples of the vintage, Taylor's 2000 tastes like a young vintage of Chateau Latour on steroids. Aromas of graphite, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and smoke jump from the glass. Spectacularly concentrated and enormously endowed, with sweetness allied to ripe tannin, decent acidity, and layer upon layer of fruit and extract, this is the leading candidate for the port of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040. Score: 98 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2002)
