HENNESSY PARADIS IMPÉRIAL
Cognac, France

437962 750mL $3,664.00

TASTING NOTE: A blend created by Yann Fillioux of 35 to 130 year old cognacs matured in seasoned old barrels, only one out of 1000 is good enough to get in these bottles. Refined, balanced and elegant, this is ultra-sophisticated. Golden amber with flowery notes of jasmine and orange blossom there is virtually no wood on the palate, rather hints of spice and florals in a delicate yet persistent style. A beautiful, delicate, contemporary cognac with ultimate style. Score: 99 (Margaret Swaine, winealign.com, Feb. 23, 2015)

CHÂTEAU BARDE-HAUT 2012
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

490219 (XD) 750mL $54.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Barde-Haut is dark, fleshy and voluptuous, with notable depth and resonance from the Merlot. Mocha, bittersweet chocolate, plums and spices all add nuance, but above all else, the 2012 is a wine of spherical texture and intensity. Give it a few years to fully unwind. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged in 300-liter barrels, 80% of them new. Drinking window: 2017-2027. Score: 92+ (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, July 2015)

CHÂTEAU GRAND-PUY-LACOSTE 2012
AC Pauillac, Grand Cru Classé

490284 (XD) 750mL $109.00

TASTING NOTE: Well-built, with a charcoal frame that melds nicely with steeped currant, blackberry paste and dark plum fruit flavors. The long finish is riveted to a graphite underpinning. Remarkably dense, but without the austere twinge of the vintage. Best from 2018 through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. Score: 93 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, Marcy 31, 2015)

CHÂTEAU MALARTIC-LAGRAVIÈRE 2012
AC Pessac-Léognan, Grand Cru Classé

490276 (XD) 750mL $84.00

TASTING NOTE: This large estate of 131 acres has been run brilliantly by a Belgian family, the Bonnies since their acquisition a number of years ago. The quality of the white and red have soared to exceptional heights, and this is certainly still one of the more realistically priced wines of Pessac-Lèognan and classified crus. The 2012 is a beauty, with a dense ruby/purple color, a fabulously plush, opulent texture and medium to full-bodied flavors of cassis, spicy earth and blueberry. Quite rich, yet light on its feet, this is an absolutely textbook Pessac-Lèognan, with wonderfully velvety tannins. Drink it now, or drink it in 25 years. This is a brilliant wine. Score: 94 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, April 29, 2015)

CHÂTEAU LÉOVILLE-BARTON 2009
2e Cru, AC Saint-Julien

490243 (XD) 750mL $279.00

Roger Voss awarded this wine a rating of 98 points, citing the "...extreme richness of the fruit..." and its "underlying firm structure, density and solid tannins..." calling it ..."impressive and ready for long-term aging." in determining it as a Wine Enthusiast Cellar Selection wine. (The Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 2012).

TASTING NOTE: This is powerful Cabernet, with gutsy weight, but also polished feel to the fresh plum, warm blackberry sauce, bittersweet ganache and roasted apple wood notes. Long and tarry through the finish, but still invigorating despite its heft. Needs some time to round fully into form. Best from 2017 through 2035. Ranked no. 6 on the 2012 Wine Spectator Top 100 wines. Score: 95 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2012)

CHÂTEAU FIGEAC 2000
AC Saint-Émilion, Grand Cru Classé

942631 (XD) 750mL $399.00

TASTING NOTE: Overt rosemary, bay and tobacco notes lead the way, backed by dark fig and steeped black currant fruit flavors at the core. The finish is loamy-edged, with a serious tug of earth. There's nice flesh and density here, though I like where this is now, rather than wanting to wait too much longer.-2000 Bordeaux blind retrospective (December 2015). Drink now through 2020. Score: 92 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, 2016)

CHÂTEAU LÉOVILLE-BARTON 2000
2e Cru, AC Saint-Julien,

731794 (XD) 750mL $325.00

TASTING NOTE: Hello. Take textbook St.-Julien warmed fig, blueberry compote and blackberry reduction notes along with ample graphite, bramble and tobacco flavors, then dial it up a notch. This has terrific energy to offset the admirable depth and length, and hasn't even started a second phase yet. One of the stars of the vintage. 2000 Bordeaux blind retrospective (December 2015). Best from 2018 through 2033. Score: 96 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, 2016)

MAISON ROCHE DE BELLENE VIEILLES VIGNES GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2014
AC

240424 (XD) 750mL $68.00

TASTING NOTE: From a two-acre parcel of vines planted in 1950, this is a finely perfumed, rich wine. It has generous red fruits and an equally opulent ripe character. The tannins are there - a dry layer that is supporting the spice - as is a firm solid texture. Drink this wine (which is still developing) from 2019. Score: 92 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 31, 2016)

DOMAINE CHANSON BEAUNE BRESSANDES 1ER CRU 2013
AC

487389 (XD) 750mL $85.00

TASTING NOTE: Black cherry, black currant and spice flavors pick up a mineral note as this sleek red builds on the palate. Offers hints of earth and tar, backed by rustic tannins. Brooding finish. Best from 2018 through 2030. Score: 90 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, May 31, 2016)

JOSEPH DROUHIN SANTENAY 2013
AC

496448 (XD) 750mL $40.00

Established in 1880, Joseph Drouhin remains one of the most trusted and recognized of Burgundy's producers. The company continues to be family-owned and operated. The condition, prior usage and weathering of the French oak in which the Joseph Drouhin Santenay spends between 12-15 months is closely controlled, so that its influence on the wine throughout the ageing process can be exactly determined. The Pinots of Santenay are typically more rustic and deeply coloured than those from sites further north. This is due in great part to the richer ratio of marl soils found here, as compared to elsewhere in the Côte d'Or, and to the precisely controlled ageing regime employed by Drouhin that helps to emphasize an elegance and refinement in the final wines.

CHÂTEAU DE MALIGNY FOURCHAUME CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2015
AC

718288 (XD) 750mL $42.00

The curving slope of the Fourchaume Premier Cru vineyard provides producers with subtle but distinct variations in exposure within the site, allowing them to tailor very specific expressions. The superior-quality chalk and limestone-rich Kimmeridgian soils produce a notably round, lemony and mineral wine that makes the site one of the most recognizable in Chablis. This will be an elegant, refined wine that will offer a crisp, flavourful articulation of why Chablis is so special.

BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE GRAND CRU 2014
AC

974758 (XD) 750mL $218.00

TASTING NOTE: Mild notes of wood and reduction mask the underlying fruit though I can say that it appears to be ripe. Otherwise there is outstanding volume and concentration to the big-bodied and openly muscular flavors that exhibit evident power and punch on the hugely long finale. This is presently very compact and like the Perrières very clearly built to age. I should note that while this is certainly going to need time it is not especially austere and I suspect that it will begin to drink well after only 5-ish years or so if that's your preference. Drink: 2024+. Score: 94 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, June 15, 2016)

DOMAINE WILLIAM FÈVRE LES PREUSES CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2014
AC

74773 (XD) 750mL $113.00

TASTING NOTE: Along with the Côte Bouguerots and Les Lys, this possesses the most elegant nose in the range with an ultra-pure mixture of green fruit, tidal pool, white flower, citrus rind and iodine hints. There is terrific intensity and delineation to the attractively textured and refined yet powerful flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the gorgeously long, balanced and Zen-like finale. The Vaudésir and Les Clos are both genuinely remarkable but there is another dimension present here. Once again it's worth pointing out that this is going to need plenty of cellaring. Another 'wow' wine. Drink: 2026+. Score: 96 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 8, 2016)

MARCHAND-TAWSE MEURSAULT BLAGNY 1ER CRU 2011
AC

448720 (XD) 750mL $79.00

The Meursault Blagny Premier Cru is situated between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. The Meursault Blagny Premiere Cru designation is applied to Chardonnay wines only, while the reds are identified as Blagny Premier Cru. This area is challenging to farm as the vines are planted on steep slopes, but the aspect allows the grapes considerable sun exposure. This example from the Canadian-Burgundy operation, Marchand-Tawse, will deliver a floral, fresh and round take on the region. You can expect a fine depth of pear and apple with an underpinning saline mineral.

GUILLAUME GONNET BEL AMI CHÂTEAUNEUF DU PAPE 2015
AP

493262 (XD) 750mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Bel Ami, which is an even split of Grenache and Syrah that was partially destemmed and aged in concrete and oak tanks. Blackberry, black cherry, leather and pepper all emerge from this medium to full-bodied beauty that has impressive purity and a fresh, balanced style that will allow it to drink nicely for a decade. Score: 89-91 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

YVES CUILLERON L'AMARYBELLE SAINT JOSEPH 2014
AC

490201 (XD) 750mL $45.00

TASTING NOTE: Saturated ruby. Ripe cherry and blackberry on the deeply perfumed nose, complicated by notes of pipe tobacco, violet and candied licorice. Smoky and focused on the palate, offering gently sweet dark berry and floral pastille flavors sharpened by zesty acidity and a peppery nuance. Finishes sappy, gently sweet and very long, offering slow-building tannins and a late hint of cola. Score: 91-93 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, March 2016)

DOMAINE DE LA CHARBONNIÈRE CUVÉE MOURRE DES PERDRIX CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2010
AC

401901 (D) 750mL $62.00

TASTING NOTE: Lastly, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Mourre des Perdrix is the most fine, elegant and silky, with beautiful notes of dried flowers, black raspberry, dried earth and spice. Medium to full-bodied, pure and layered, it's not a blockbuster, but it shines for its balance, length and texture. Coming from the sandy, clay soils located just behind the estate, this cuvee is always the most fine, elegant and lightly textured of the special cuvees, yet it ages gracefully on its balance. Drink it anytime over the coming 10-15 years. Score: 94 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

JEAN-LUC COLOMBO LES RUCHETS CORNAS 2010
AC

400960 (XD) 750mL $114.00

TASTING NOTE: Shows a lovely savory hint, with green olive and tobacco notes wrapping around serious chalky grip. The core of butter, cherry, red currant and blackberry fruit sits in the background for now. Dense and vinous, this is driven by minerality, and should age wonderfully as the fruit comes forward. Best from 2015 through 2027. Score: 95 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, 2013)

CHÂTEAU DE BEAUCASTEL VIEILLES VIGNES CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE BLANC 2014
AC

596098 (XD) 750mL $172.00

TASTING NOTE: This is on the bold side of the ledger, with a nearly exotic display of creamed peach, mango and papaya flavors, lined with just enough light citrus and floral notes to stay honest. Piecrust and orange sabayon details line the finish. Drink now through 2024. Score: 96 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, Nov. 15, 2016)

BOIZEL GRAND VINTAGE CHAMPAGNE 2007
AC

484071 (XD) 750mL $91.00

TASTING NOTE: Disgorged in October 2014, this smooth, now mature, wine has flavors of yeasty toastiness and a tight, mineral structure. Sliced apple and lemon zest still give freshness. Behind the fruit, crisp texture and a steely edge await. It is beautifully balanced, rich while dry and ready to drink. Editors' Choice. Score: 94 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 2015)

BOIZEL JOYAU DE FRANCE CHAMPAGNE 2000
AC

360461 (XD) 750mL $145.00

TASTING NOTE: The millennium year, 2000, was not the greatest Champagne vintage. However, Boizel has released a prestige cuvée from that year and produced a well matured wine with a dry character and plenty of toasty notes. Dominated by Pinot Noir, it is deliciously rich and totally ready to drink. Score: 91 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 2014)

JOH. JOS. PRÜM BERNKASTELER BADESTUBE RIESLING SPÄTLESE 2014

402057 (S) 750mL $54.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Riesling Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese (AP #14) is very sweet, piquant and juicy on the palate. The acidity is racy and piquant, but well integrated into a dense and juicy texture. The finish is nicely salty and reveals a good grip. There is a small percentage of botrytis here that gives this wine a super ripe and concentrated Riesling flavor. I tasted the wine only ice-cold, unfortunately. Drink 2020-2034. Score: 91 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

JOH. JOS. PRÜM ZELTINGER SONNENUHR RIESLING SPÄTLESE 2014
Prädikatswein

401158 (S) 750mL $56.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese (AP #16) offers a beautiful mix of white nectarines, tropical fruits, flinty slate and lemon flavors on the nose. Very elegant and round on the palate, with a lingering salinity and stimulating piquancy, this is a well balanced and juicy Sonnenuhr with tropical fruit flavors and honeydew melon aromas; it has a long, grippy and charming finish. Nice purity, but also sensually juicy in its sweet and fruity texture. Drink 2019-2034. Score: 92+ (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

SAN LEONARDO 2010
IGT Vigneti delle Dolomiti

32474 (XD) 750mL $79.00

TASTING NOTE: San Leonardo was not produced in 2009. The 2010 San Leonardo (Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot) is a seamless and polished wine that shows the best of this estate and this vintage. This is a profound and lasting wine with a bouquet that opens to dark fruit tones backed by spice, leather, tobacco and polished river stone. It tastes very young now but offers good material (in terms of richness, acidity and structure) to promise a steady aging evolution ahead. This edition of San Leonardo is gorgeous with a capital G. Drink 2018-2035. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, May 29, 2016)

GUASTAFERRO PRIMUM TAURASI 2008
DOCG

488403 (XD) 750mL $66.00

TASTING NOTE: From one of Taurasi's rising stars, this gorgeous wine opens with enticing scents of underbrush, just-picked violet, dark berry and a whiff of cake spice. The balanced, full-bodied palate delivers layers of mature black cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, carob and cocoa while firm but refined tannins and fresh acidity provide an elegant, age-worthy structure. It's already tempting but hold for more complexity. Drink 2018-2033.Cellar Selection. Score: 95 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, March 2016)

DI MEO SELEZIONE ERMINIA FIANO DI AVELLINO 2000
DOCG

483925 (XD) 750mL $68.00

TASTING NOTE: Here we have it: One of the great white wines of Italy is the 2000 Fiano di Avellino Selezione Erminia Di Meo. I tasted bottle 1,264 of 3,000. If anyone has a doubt concerning the longevity of the Fiano grape, I urge you to seek out the other 2,999 bottles out there somewhere. In the great tradition of France or Germany, Campania proves its worth with a wine that tastes young and tonic despite its 15 years of age. I loved the dried fruit and mineral definition and the silky structure that keeps this wine so fresh and relevant in the mouth. It shows minimal signs of oxidation. I'm going to bet on an extra long cellar life for this gorgeous Fiano. Drink Date: 2015-2025. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, April 29, 2015)

OTTELLA MOLCEO RISERVA LUGANA 2013
DOC

496778 (XD) 750mL $35.00

TASTING NOTE: Herbaceous aromas of hay and tomato leaf meld together with notes of stone fruit, citrus and flint. The round, medium-bodied palate offers white grapefruit, candied nectarine zest, white peach, aromatic herb and mineral. Fresh acidity brightens the rich flavors. Score: 92 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, July 2016)

GAJA DAGROMIS BAROLO 2012
DOCG

92742 (XD) 750mL $98.00

TASTING NOTE: Brick-rimmed light ruby. More intense than the Pecchenino Langhe Nebbiolo 2014, with the sweetness of red fruit and the start of some more autumnal development. Firm, compact, beautifully balanced and fresh. Still pretty chewy on the finish, though the texture is rather chalky. Needs food and/or time. Drink: 2018-2028. Score: 17+ (out of 20) (Julia Harding, MW, jancisrobinson.com, Dec. 9, 2016)

PAOLO SCAVINO BRIC DËL FIASC BAROLO 2012
DOCG

335950 (XD) 750mL $112.00

TASTING NOTE: A core of sweet cherry fruit is enhanced by licorice, leather, spice and tar flavors. This is vibrant and focused, with a dense matrix for support and a long, gripping finish. Best from 2019 through 2033. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Aug. 31, 2016)

PRUNOTTO VIGNA COLONELLO BUSSIA RISERVA BAROLO 2010
DOCG

3806 (XD) 750mL $198.00

TASTING NOTE: This is the top-shelf wine from Prunotto and is a wine that has only recently started production. The 2010 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello offers grit and power, and a sense of profound density and depth that you do not get from the other wines among this collection of new releases. Of course, the excellent 2010 vintage makes the difference and gives this expression that competitive advantage. It offers a smooth and silky finish with flavors of wild berry, crushed mineral, violets and licorice on the long finish. It needs another ten years to flesh out further. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Sept. 28, 2016)

MORGANTE DON ANTONIO NERO D'AVOLA 2013
IGT Sicilia

51789 (XD) 750mL $44.00

TASTING NOTE: Carmelo Morgante makes a fine Nero d'Avola. The 2013 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Don Antonio is one of his best creations so far. The wine is dark and impenetrable and loaded tight with bold fruit intensity. It shows a careful measure of heft and power that leaves a deep impression but that does't feel too heavy or thick. Despite its big bones, the wine maintains its grace and elegance. Deep concentration - driven by oak flavors of spice and chocolate - push the wine forward over the palate. Drink: 2016-2025. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

CASTELLO DI VOLPAIA RISERVA CHIANTI CLASSICO 2013
DOCG

705335 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: Very perfumed and vivid on the nose. Equally so on the palate with a medium body, integrated tannins and a long and linear finish. Very polished and silky. Drink now. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Aug. 21, 2016)

CASTELLO DELLA PANERETTA CANAIOLO 2011
IGT Toscana

491944 (XD) 750mL $57.00

TASTING NOTE: Structured red with lots of berry, toasted vanilla and chocolate character. Still coming together but decadent and rich. Pure canaiolo. Drink or hold. Score: 92 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, July 19, 2016)

GUADO AL TASSO MATAROCCHIO 2011
IGT Toscana

340174 (XD) 750mL $198.00

TASTING NOTE: I was blown away by the 2011 Matarocchio (100% Cabernet Franc). From 15-year-old vines planted some 60 meters above sea level on the Tuscan coast, this wine is absolutely stunning, delicious and simply unforgettable. Only produced in 2007, 2009 and 2011, this third edition shows towering aromas of sensuous dark fruit, leather and tobacco. If Cabernet Franc is the darling grape of this appellation, Matarocchio is a reason why. The mouthfeel is penetrating and powerful, but seamless and silky smooth at the same time. The tannin management is excellent. This is one to keep in the cellar. Drink 2016-2038. Score: 97 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Oct. 30, 2014)

ABBADIA ARDENGA RISERVA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

483438 (XD) 750mL $76.00

TASTING NOTE: Vivid aromas of dried cherry and blackberry, hints of pepper and lemon grass. Full body, firm tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Drink in 2018. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 28, 2016)

COSTANTI RISERVA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

483529 (XD) 750mL $229.00

TASTING NOTE: This is a spectacular effort. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows deep, inner intensity and lovely aromatic characteristics that are very true to the mighty Sangiovese grape. You can't go wrong with a wine like this, especially if you are seeking the true flavors of Montalcino. The aromas are presented in neat and tidy fashion with wild berry, blue flower, spice and herb that converge to create a united front. In the mouth, the wine delivers ample power and momentum with dark flavors and firm structure. The wine need another few years of bottle aging to flesh out further. Drink 2018-2035. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

CASTELLO DEL TERRICCIO 2006
IGT Toscana

483420 (XD) 750mL $88.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2006 Castello del Terriccio is a beautifully centered, poised wine layered with exceptional purity in its aromas and flavors. Ripe dark fruit, menthol, espresso, spices and licorice emerge from this focused, powerful Castello. Ideally, the wine is best cellared for a number of years. The Castello is one of Tuscany's slowest wines to mature, at least in its early years. In 2006 the blend is 50% Syrah, 25% Petit Verdot and 25% other grapes. Drinking window: 2016-2026. Score: 95+ (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Aug. 2011)

VALDIPIATTA VIGNA D'ALFIERO VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO 2006
DOCG

332098 (XD) 750mL $67.00

TASTING NOTE: Dried cherries and light meat character to this wine. Full and juicy. Round and chewy tannins. Savory wine. Drink or hold. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 26, 2012)

DEGANI AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2012
DOCG

52423 (XD) 750mL $47.00

TASTING NOTE: Spiced currant, herbes de Provence, fig cake and floral notes are bright and inviting in this medium- to full-bodied red, structured by grippy tannins and a lasting, spiced finish. Drink now through 2026. Score: 91 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, April 30, 2016)

QUINTA DO MOURO 2010
Vinho Regional Alentejano

397067 (XD) 750mL $48.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2010 Tinto, the latest estate Tinto (not quite yet released), is a good effort in a somewhat difficult year. More elegant than the 2009, if not quite as graceful as the 2008, it is beautifully balanced, nicely structured and very tasty. It won't be the greatest regular Tinto, but it is impressive nonetheless. Score: 92 (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2015)

CLOS MOGADOR 2013
DOC Priorat

14746 (XD) 750mL $117.00

TASTING NOTE: One of only two Vins de Finca Qualificada from Priorat, the 2013 Clos Mogador is a complex blend of Garnacha and Cariñena with a touch of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. It felt serious and a little backward, terribly balanced with shy notes of peat and graphite emerging with some time in the glass, subtle and complex, slowly revealing nuances of dark cherries, violets, black olives and later some red fruit. The palate is surprising: when I expected it to show its power, it just whispered and danced on my tongue with lively acidity that made it feel a lot lighter than it is. There is depth, elegance and incipient complexity. Here everything is in perfect harmony, with lots of everything, dry extract, acidity, alcohol and tannin, but somehow you don't notice any of it. A remarkable vintage of Mogador. Given the quality, the price seems like a bargain, and availability shouldn't be too bad either, as some 28,000 bottles were filled in June 2015. Put it aside in your cellar, because this is a 20-year bottle of Priorat. Score: 98 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

BODEGAS MAS ALTA LA CREU ALTA 2012
DOCa Priorat

487033 (XD) 750mL $143.00

TASTING NOTE: 2011 was too warm a vintage in Priorat, and the top cuvée from Mas Alta jumped from 2010 to the 2012 La Creu Alta. They own a plot of very old Cariñena vines in the village of Torroja (all the rest of other vines are in the village of Vilella Alta where the winery is located), which is mixed with more Cariñena, Syrah and a pinch of Garnacha from different vineyards to make up a final blend of around 60% Cariñena, 35% Syrah and 5% Garnacha. I think vinification and élevage is now a secondary consideration for these Mas Alta wines because what I have in the glass is much more about the place, which to me makes the wine much more interesting. This is balsamic with notes hinting on camphor, but mainly rosemary, fennel and thyme with even a floral touch and a mixture of black and red berries and some spiciness thrown in. The palate is full-bodied, but the tannins are very fine, and the rusticity of the Cariñena feels very polished and elegant. Drink Date: 2015-2025. Score: 96 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, June 28, 2015)

EMILIO MORO MALLEOLUS 2011
DO Ribera del Duero

452581 (XD) 750mL $48.00

TASTING NOTE: This pure, bullish, smoky Tinto Fino is full of charred blackberry, cassis and licorice aromas. The palate is massive but superbly balanced. Flavors of mocha, black coffee, bitter chocolate, toast, blackberry and cassis finish with power and precision. Editors' Choice. Drink 2017-2025. The wine ranked #65 on the Wine Enthusiast Top 100 wines of 2015. Score: 94 (Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 2015)

TELMO RODRÍGUEZ LANZAGA 2010
DOCa Rioja

107433 (XD) 750mL $36.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2010 Altos de Lanzaga is sourced from four different vineyards that they feel show the character of Lanciego, their idea of a grand cru. Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano from head-pruned, 70-year-old vines worked following biodynamic principles that ferment naturally - no external yeasts are added to any of their wines - in 3,000-kilo oak vats for 20 days and aged for 18 months in 1,500-liter oak foudres and 225-liter barriques. The wine ages very slowly, in a very cold cellar, so it might take a year to carry out malolactic (the temperature in the cave is 12-14º C all year around). It's a deep, austere, mineral-driven wine with a complex nose with subtle aromas of soil, fresh red and black fruit notes and a whiff of spices in very good balance. In the palate it is very tight, fine, long with silky tannins, somehow closed. Fruit, fermentation and wood seem to play a secondary role in the wine that speaks mainly of the place. This might not be a wine for everybody, but I think it's super! Drink 2016-2027. Score: 95 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 29, 2013)

CHÂTEAU DES CHARMES EQUULEUS 2012
VQA St. David's Bench, Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard

319525 (XD) 750mL $42.00

TASTING NOTE: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% of both Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Made only in the warmest vintages in Niagara, this is the best Equuleus yet, a more modern style that's approachable now yet will age for 10-20 years. The nose shows rich cherry, a touch of raspberry and then lavish cassis, concentrated black currants and fine oak spices. It is smooth on the palate with generous fruit flavours, fine tannins and integrated spices that echo on the long finish. Score: 93 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, March 29, 2015)

LAKE'S FOLLY CABERNETS 2014
Hunter Valley

487884 (XD) 750mL $107.00

TASTING NOTE: A 61/18/11/10% blend of cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, merlot and petit verdot. Good colour, although not especially deep; the bouquet is fragrant, speaking first about the complex fruit cepage, secondly about its place. Red and black fruits join in seamless union with new French oak and fine-grained tannins. A wine that can give pleasure now or in the far distant future. A diabolical cork fought to the end, leaving wreckage all over the tasting table. Drink By: 2039. Special Value. Score: 97 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Oct. 6, 2016)

WOLF BLASS BLACK LABEL 2012
40th Vintage, Langhorne Creek - McLaren Vale

960468 (XD) 750mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: The Malbec (5%, versus 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Shiraz) sings in the juiciness and violet lift of a vintage characterised by a mild summer with cool nights. Black pepper riffs and a gentle pucker of plum skin add layers and interest to this lively Black Label's well-defined black cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. Though new and American oak is down again (to 52% and 22% respectively), its mocha notes currently sit apart. Needs time. Drink: 2017-2030+. Score: 94 (Sarah Ahmed, decanter.com, Sept. 20, 2016)

HENSCHKE HILL OF GRACE SHIRAZ 2010
Eden Valley

399675 (XD) 750mL $1,023.00

TASTING NOTE: Medium garnet in color, the 2010 Shiraz Hill of Grace reveals a slightly reticent yet beguiling nose of kirsch, dried mulberries and plum preserves with nuances of star anise, potpourri, cloves, dusty earth and menthol. Medium to full-bodied with youthfully taut, mouth-filling perfumed berry preserves and exotic spice flavors, the fruit is well framed by rounded, polished tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with incredible length. It could still benefit from 2-4 years in bottle before entering its drinking window but is already stunning. Drink Date: 2017-2035. Score: 99 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, June 28, 2015)

TRAPICHE ISCAY SYRAH/VIOGNIER 2013
Uco Valley

494302 (XD) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: Perfumed, with seductive nose of berries with mineral, floral, spicy and slightly meaty notes. Remarkable wine, big bodied with a great texture, fine grained tannins and a toasty, savoury character refreshed by a cool minty note. A full Syrah, yet retaining a pleasant delicacy. Score: 95 (Tasting panel, Decanter World Wine Awards, 2016)

ERRAZURIZ THE BLEND COLLECTION RED 2013
Aconcagua Valley

418517 (XD) 750mL $35.00

TASTING NOTE: 50% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah. Fresh and complex Chateauneuf-du-Pape style with summer pudding berries and hints of black pepper on the nose. Succulent palate, with fine, elegant tannins and a profusion of Mediterranean spicy flavours. Savoury, with a great tension, vibrant mineral salty notes and a fabulous persistency. Score: 95 (Judges panel, Decanter World Wine Awards, 2016)

DUNN VINEYARDS HOWELL MOUNTAIN CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

193763 (XD) 750mL $230.00

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of blackcurrent, blackberry, rich earth, spice and liquorice are followed by a palate of striking persistence and structural amplitude. In 2013 this is typically large-scaled, fresh and built for the long haul, but Mike Dunn's thoughtful changes to the estate's barrel programme have resulted in more refined tannins. Brettanomyces issues that plagued the Dunn wines about 15 years ago also seem long gone, so nothing should compromise their lovely evolution in the cellar. Drink: 2023-2070. Score: 97 (William Kelley, decanter.com, Sept. 26, 2016)

FLORA SPRINGS RENNIE RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

490789 (D) 750mL $237.00

TASTING NOTE: Another of their single-vineyard offerings that has a proven track record for long-term cellaring is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rennie Reserve, which comes from holdings in St. Helena. This shows the valley's beautiful crème de cassis fruit, nice judicious touch of toasty oak and licorice, full-bodied mouthfeel, and no hard edges. Tannins are present, but round and well-integrated. This is a full-bodied wine made for drinking over the next 20-25 years, although I wouldn't be surprised to see it last longer. Drink Date: 2016-2041. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

GROTH RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Oakville

247312 (D) 750mL $203.00

TASTING NOTE: Remarkably rich and well-made, with a taut, dense core of earthy anise and black licorice notes woven into currant and blackberry elements. Once settled, the flavors expand and lift, imparting a sense of elegance and finesse without losing the tannic backbone. Best from 2020 through 2034. Score: 93 (James Laube, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2016)

REVANA FAMILY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

242461 (XD) 750mL $248.00

TASTING NOTE: Elegantly styled, rich and creamy, with a pure mix of dark berry, licorice, cedary oak, mocha and dried herb. A mix of grace, finesse and density, ending with a dash of espresso. Drink now through 2025. Score: 94 (James Laube, winespectator.com, May 31, 2016)

CHATEAU MONTELENA ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Napa Valley

709881 (XD) 750mL $196.00

TASTING NOTE: From bottle a solid 93. Surprisingly lush and charming for a young Montelena, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a deep ruby/purple color, with earthy, black cherry and blackcurrants. The wine has very ripe tannins, and is medium to full-bodied with outstanding purity and balance. Most Montelena estate Cabernets have traditionally required patience, but this one is set for drinking now and over the next 20 years. Score: 93 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Jan. 24, 2015)

DALLA VALLE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Napa Valley

439893 (XD) 750mL $385.00

TASTING NOTE: A deep, layered wine, Dalla Valle's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses fabulous richness and texture to match its rich contours. Silky tannins shape the succulent finish in a Cabernet Sauvignon that captures the very best of the vintage. Sweet red cherry, plum, spice, new leather and mocha are laced into the exotic, voluptuous finish. Today, the 2012 speaks to polish above all else. This is a stunning 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon. Drinking window: 2018-2037. Score: 98 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

DALLA VALLE MAYA 2012
Napa Valley

439901 (XD) 750mL $768.00

TASTING NOTE: Dalla Valle was the first winery to demonstrate what heights Cabernet Franc could reach in the valley with their Maya proprietary blend, which averages 50-55% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2012 Maya is a spectacular offering. I recently had the 1991 (made by Tony Soter) and it is still drinking exceptionally well. In fact, it could still be called an adolescent at 23 years of age. The 2012 Maya is already revealing great complexity with notes of forest floor, licorice, truffles, red and blackcurrants and a hint of graphite. The beautiful aromatics are followed by an equally majestic, full-bodied, multidimensional wine of great class and elegance. This sensational effort should drink well for 25-30 years. Score: 98 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 30, 2014)

FREEMARK ABBEY BOSCHÉ CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Rutherford

578971 (D) 750mL $169.00

TASTING NOTE: The classic 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Bosché Vineyard is 90.1% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest 9.9% Merlot, aged 26 months in oak. This is one of the iconic wines of Napa, and one of the great vineyard sources coming from Rutherford on foothill bench soils at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. This is one of the finest examples of this wine I've ever tasted, and there have been many. The wine shows plenty of loamy soil notes intermixed with blackberry, cassis, cedar wood and spice box. It's full-bodied, shows terrific intensity, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel and moderate tannin in the finish. It still needs cellar time - and 5-6 years should bring forth plenty of magic, but this wine will also last 30-40 years. Score: 97 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

STONESTREET ROCKFALL CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Sonoma County

249367 (XD) 750mL $129.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Rockfall Vineyard, which sees 57% new French oak for 20 months, is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with a deep, opaque purple color and notes of charcoal, créme de cassis, graphite and white chocolate. It is full-bodied, multilayered, very deep, impressive and long. Drink Date: 2015-2040. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2015)

ELK COVE FIVE MOUNTAIN PINOT NOIR 2014
Chehalem Mountain

488676 (XD) 750mL $77.00

TASTING NOTE: From a vineyard planted in 1978 by Dick Ponzi, the 2014 Pinot Noir Five Mountain (not Fine or Fire as previously reported in this publication!) has a very well-defined bouquet with real mineralité coming through. This is extremely well focused. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, real tension and vigor with fine tannin, dark cherry and red plum fruit leading to a nicely poised, Volnay-Iike finish that is pure class. This comes highly recommended. Drink 2018-2032. Score: 93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, June 29, 2016)

ELK COVE LA BOHÈME PINOT NOIR 2014
Yamhill-Carlton

438416 (XD) 750mL $77.00

TASTING NOTE: Still wrapped up tight, as are most of the 2014s from Elk Cove, this offers juicy fruit flavors of pomegranate and raspberry, supported by fresh acidity that promises some years of aging potential. This harmonious, flavorful wine should be drunk from 2018-2030. Cellar Selection. Score: 92 (Paul Gregutt, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 2016)

VALDESPINO TONELES MOSCATEL JEREZ
DO

492660 (S) 375mL $285.00

TASTING NOTE: The NV Moscatel Toneles has reached a mythical status locally in Spain. It's an extremely old, concentrated and powerful sweet wine that was long forgotten, because there was no market for it. The color is dark brown, almost opaque with amber-green edges. The ever-changing nose is an explosion of spices (curry and cinnamon) and noble woods, and from the sheer concentration it displays a myriad of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, balsamic herbs and even a note of coconut. After some time in the glass the roasted orange notes of Muscat come back intermixed with very spicy incense notes. Give it more time and it smells of camphor. It's fascinating to smell it over the course of a few hours - even days. The palate is immensely concentrated, with the alcohol perfectly integrated and the extreme sweetness compensated by a piercing acidity that reminds me of some century-old Madeiras. It ends with an acute coffee note. The aftertaste is eternal. It is exceptional that such an old wine (it could be over 80 years of average age) keeps the freshness and balance, but when this happens, the wine is exceptional. A world-class sweet wine that shows what aged Muscat is able for. With its 430 grams of residual sugar, this wine is indestructible, but only 100 bottles are withdrawn and bottled yearly from a single, large cask. Drink 2013-2034. Score: 100 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 28, 2013)
