BALOIRO BIERZO RESERVA 2010
DO Bierzo

499483 (XD) 750mL $35.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep and layered nose of dried strawberries, cherries and prunes with hints of fresh walnuts and meaty notes. Blackcurrant liquor, too. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a long, silky finish. Superb. Drink now. Score: 96 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Dec. 1, 2016)

CHÂTEAU D'ISSAN 2012
AC Margaux

511469 (XD) 750mL $114.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Château d'Issan, builds on the richness of the second wine and adds more body, structure and density. It has an inky purple color and a stunning nose of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as touches of incense and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, this 2012 is a great success in the vintage, one of the superstars. Moreover, its precociousness suggests it could be drunk in the next 4-5 years or cellared through 2025. Drink Date: 2015-2025. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, April 29, 2015)

CHÂTEAU BROWN 2010
AC Pessac-Léognan

507343 (XD) 750mL $53.00

TASTING NOTE: Shows good range, with red and black currant fruit playing off each other, while tangy iron and sanguine notes flitter throughout. Turns plush and inviting, with a tarry note inlaid on the finish. Displays density, but stays pure and well-balanced overall. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2020. Score: 92 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2013)

CHÂTEAU GAUDIN 2010
AC Pauillac

499541 (XD) 750mL $46.00

TASTING NOTE: From one of those rare properties in Pauillac that are not classified growths, this wine is ripe, dark, still smoky and very structured. It has some of the weight of the vintage although in a restrained way, giving juicy black currant fruits behind the tannic structure. Drink from 2017. Score: 91 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2016)

CHÂTEAU LA DOMINIQUE 2010
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

921221 (XD) 750mL $106.00

TASTING NOTE: Delivers a gorgeous note of crème de cassis, followed by dark plum, anise, blackberry coulis and blueberry reduction notes. A glorious display of fruit, with well-embedded charcoal and graphite accents that help the finish drive on with authority. Should age wonderfully. A very strong showing for this estate. Best from 2016 through 2030. Score: 94 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2013)

CHÂTEAU LA TOUR CARNET 2010
AC Haut-Médoc

259986 (XD) 750mL $87.00

TASTING NOTE: Probably La Tour Carnet's best since their 2001, the 2010 La Tour Carnet exhibits wonderful ripeness, a dense ruby/purple color, notes of licorice, camphor and some toast as well as lots of black currant and blueberry fruit. It is medium to full-bodied, with attractive sweetness of tannin, good acidity, excellent delineation to its component parts, and a full-bodied, impressively long finish. This wine may close down somewhat, given the moderate tannins, but it seems relatively accessible despite being a 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2035. Score: 93 (Robert Mayfield, robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

CHÂTEAU LA MISSION HAUT BRION 2008
AC Pessac-Léognan

513127 (XD) 750mL $502.00

TASTING NOTE: Like a lot of wines in this underrated vintage, the 2008 La Mission was one of the great bargains of recent vintages. Its healthy blue/purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, licorice, truffles, underbrush and forest floor. The scorched earthy/smoky character of this estate's terroir has not yet emerged. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated with good acidity, freshness and delineation, this is a big wine for the vintage, but also very classic in its balance of tannin, acidity and extract. It will benefit from another 5-7 years of cellaring and should keep for three decades. The final blend was 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Drink Date: 2017-2047. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2012)

CHÂTEAU CROIX DE LABRIE 2003
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

422733 (XD) 750mL $158.00

TASTING NOTE: A St. Emilion fruit bomb, the 2003 Croix de Labrie continues to be voluptuously textured, fat and plush with sweet tannin in addition to copious black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of incense and truffle. Enjoy it over the next 3-4 years. Drink Date: 2014-2018. Score: 93 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2014)

CHÂTEAU QUINAULT L'ENCLOS 2001
AC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

940973 (XD) 750mL $123.00

This wine has matured since the 2004 review and will have taken on a range of tertiary characteristics. Drink now through 2019.

TASTING NOTE: This blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc owes much of its extraordinary quality to the impeccable perfectionist efforts of Quinault's owners, Dr. Alain Raynaud and his wife, Francoise. The 37-acre vineyard, situated within the Libourne city limits, includes some of the appellation's oldest vines. This wine enjoys all of the state of the art, cutting edge winemaking techniques (i.e., cold fermentation, malolactic in barrel, aging on its lees, and no fining or filtration). Yields are kept to a modest 40 hectoliters per hectare. The 2001 is a worthy rival to the 2000. Deep purple to the rim, this vibrant red boasts a gorgeous bouquet of striking minerality intermixed with raspberries, blackberries, and hints of blueberries, espresso roast, and oak. Medium-bodied, elegant, and pure, with an intense mid-palate as well as a long finish, it needs 2-3 years of cellaring, and should drink well for 12-15 years. Score: 92 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, June 29, 2004)

JOSEPH DROUHIN CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY LES AMOUREUSES 1ER CRU 2015
AC

499533 (XD) 750mL $648.00

"Together with Gevrey-Chambertin's Clos Saint-Jacques, Chambolle-Musigny, Les Amoureuses is the prime premier cru candidate for promotion to grand cru ... The vineyard measures 5.12 hectares, and is divided between 13 different proprietors ... The soil here is similar but shallower than the lower sections of Musigny above. There is more rock and more limestone on the section closest to the over-hang, and there is some sand. But overall it is very gravelly, mixed with limestone debris, the limestone being less active than elsewhere in the commune, directly over the mother rock, Comblanchien in origin. This makes a wine which, at its best, is both sublime and ethereal: the epitome of delicacy and finesse. Yet there is nothing feeble about an Amoureuses ... A top Amoureuses from a great vintage is a rivetingly beautiful wine." (Clive Coates MW, clive-coates.com, March 2011)

BOUCHARD PERE & FILS CLOS DE BÈZE CHAMBERTIN GRAND CRU 2014
AC

973248 (XD) 750mL $382.00

TASTING NOTE: Bright, moderately saturated medium red with a palish rim. Lovely aromatic lift to the aromas of tart red berries, dried flowers and minerals. Offers subtle sweetness on the palate but this is not a thick or fleshy grand cru, and it's quite tight in the early going. But the cherry, red berry and floral show terrific definition and intensity without any weightiness. Most impressive today on the highly perfumed, very long finish, where the wine's penetrating red fruits are enlivened and extended by pungent minerality. This boasts the energy of the vintage's best examples but will require patience. Drinking window: 2025-2039. Score: 93+ (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, Feb. 2017)

DOMAINE DU PAVILLON CLOS DES MARECHAUDES ALOXE-CORTON 1ER CRU 2014
Monopole, AC

29504 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Aloxe Corton 1er Cru Clos des Maréchaudes (Domaine du Pavillon) has a pretty wild strawberry and cranberry scented bouquet, the oak nicely interwoven here. The palate is well balanced with supple ripe tannin, well judged acidity, harmonious red cherry and raspberry fruit, with a very sleek and seductive finish. This punches well above its weight -- a very well crafted Aloxe-Corton. Drink Date: 2017-2027. Score: 90-92 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

DUBREUIL-FONTAINE CORTON CLOS DU ROI GRAND CRU 2014
AC

383646 (XD) 750mL $106.00

TASTING NOTE: Relatively prominent wood fights a bit with the spicy and gamy dark berry fruit aromas that display a pungent earthiness. There is outstanding volume and excellent mid-palate concentration to the stony and muscular big-bodied flavors that deliver very fine persistence on the dusty, austere and very backward finish. This is also clearly going to require extended cellaring but everything is in place to reward exactly that. Drink: 2026+. Score: 93 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, April 15, 2016)

LOUIS JADOT CLOS DES GUETTES SAVIGNY-LÈS-BEAUNE 1ER CRU 2014
AC

634931 (XD) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Savigny les Beaune 1Er Cru Clos des Guettes has more roundness on the nose than Jadot's other 2014 Savignys -- a little more plumpness with strawberry and Morello scents developing. The palate is fleshy on the entry with good weight, a fine line of acidity, fine tannin, very focused with a tensile, quite minerally finish that is very satisfying. This comes highly recommended. Drink Date: 2017-2027. Score: 89-91 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

DOMAINE ROULOT BOURGOGNE BLANC 2015
AC

52944 (XD) 750mL $54.00

"From just beyond the Meursault appellation ... Those who cannot afford a Roulot Meursault can relish this excellent example of his handiwork, which also happens to represent one of his largest lots." (David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Dec. 2008) Established as a leading light of Meursault by the legendary Guy Roulot, this domaine is now spearheaded by his son Jean-Marc and continues to produce revelatory wines. This is a shrewd buy for any serious connoisseur of white Burgundy.

DOMAINE ROULOT CLOS DES BOUCHÈRES MEURSAULT 1ER CRU 2015
AC

513499 (XD) 750mL $198.00

TASTING NOTE: Yellow fruits and spices on the nose, showing little sign of the honeyed character this premier cru typically displays when it's harvested even a day or two later than ideal. Rich and silky in the mouth; generous but not heavy, even if it doesn't show quite the class of the Charmes. Finishes long and youthfully dry. This wine still needs more élevage to show more flavor and personality. Score: 90-92 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, Sept. 2016)

DOMAINE ROULOT LES VIREUILS MEURSAULT 2015
AC

52936 (XD) 750mL $132.00

TASTING NOTE: The Vireuils is a bit more gourmand than usual, with a comparatively expressive bouquet of apple, pear, confit citrus and nutmeg. It has a deep, concentrated and full-bodied palate with notable power and minerality. Drinking Window: 2018-2035. Score: 91

DOMAINE ROULOT MEURSAULT BLANC 2015
AC

513481 (XD) 750mL $121.00

Domaine Roulot is a family estate based in Meursault since 1820. It is managed by Jean-Marc Roulot, who took over in 1989, giving up his acting career in Paris. Since his return to Meursault, Jean-Marc set the domaine on the course to organic farming. Ever since, no herbicides are being used and all treatments are managed to minimize any effect on the vineyards' natural microbial life. The average age of the vines is impressively high due to major replanting done by Jean-Marc's father, the legendary Guy Roulot, in the 1950s. Expect this wine to evolve beautifully to 2025 and beyond.

DOMAINE WILLIAM FÈVRE LES CLOS CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2015
AC

641381 (XD) 750mL $134.00

TASTING NOTE: Pale, slightly cloudy yellow. Pungent aromas of lemon, lime, spices and iodine are lifted by an almost metallic topnote. Then almost shockingly rich and sweet in the mouth and softer than the nose suggests, offering powerful flavors of yellow peach, lichee and spices. This hugely concentrated, slightly saline wine offers terrific plushness and depth of fruit if a bit less minerality than usual in the early going. But the backward, slightly phenolic finish suggests that this wine will need extended bottle aging. Production here was just 30 hectoliters per hectare. Score: 92-95 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, July 2016)

JOSEPH DROUHIN MARQUIS DE LAGUICHE CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET MORGEOT 1ER CRU 2015
AC

332270 (XD) 750mL $153.00

TASTING NOTE: Bright pale yellow with a green tinge. Very ripe aromas of peach, vanilla and nuts lifted by a note of orange peel. Fat and sweet but with firm acidity that will need more élevage as well as some barrel age to harmonize with the wine's stone fruit and spice flavors. The wine's orange peel element is accompanied by a salty quality on the long, almost Chablis-like finish. A distinct step up in flavor intensity and salinity from the Folatières. This is aging in about one-third new oak. Score: 90-93 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, Sept. 2016)

DOMAINE BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS MEURSAULT GENEVRIÈRES 1ER CRU 2014
AC

87049 (XD) 750mL $112.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières spent 11 months in barrel using 10% to 15% new wood. Now this is a level up from the Les Clous 2014 (as it should be) with walnut and smoke filtering through on the nose that is very "Genevrières." The palate is well balanced with subtle tropical fruit (guava and apricot, a hint of quince), matched by a fine line of acidity and a composed, lightly spiced finish that tingles in the mouth. This is a lovely Meursault Genevrières from Bouchard Père. Drink Date: 2017-2030. Score: 92 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Jan. 28, 2016)

SEGUIN-MANUEL LES REUCHAUX PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 2015
AC

494997 (XD) 750mL $79.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Reuchaux has an attractive bouquet with scents of citrus fruit, nectarine and apricot blossom, the oak nicely integrated here. The palate is crisp and fresh with lively acidity, a pretty Puligny, even if the oak feels a little toffee-ish on the finish at the moment. Score: 87-89 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

SIMONNET-FEBVRE MONT DE MILIEU CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2014
AC

101600 (XD) 750mL $47.00

TASTING NOTE: Citrus and apricot fruit, a tight structure and mineral finish. A lovely example with the right of combination of finesse and intensity. Drinking Window: 2018-2028. Score: 93 (Gerard Basset, M.S., MW, decanter.com, Feb. 17, 2016)

DOMAINE DE CRISTIA VIEILLES VIGNES CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015
AC

71381 (D) 750mL $96.00

TASTING NOTE: As for the reds from barrel, I found a touch of volatile acidity in all of the barrel samples, as well as a touch less exuberance and concentration than in past vintage. My favorite of the barrel samples was the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, which is 100% Grenache that was completely destemmed and aged in a mix of demi-muids, new barrels and older barrels. It offers awesome notes of plums, blackberries, blueberries, garrigue and roasted meats in a sexy, even flamboyant, full-bodied style that will be hard to resist in its youth. Again, there's a touch of volatile acidity here, but it handles it well. Score: 93-95 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

TRIMBACH CUVÉE FRÉDÉRIC EMILE RIESLING 2008
AC Alsace

985085 (XD) 750mL $74.00

TASTING NOTE: A perfumed note of citrus peel and soft pine create a bracing nose that nonetheless suggests ripeness. The body is lithe and light, with a backdrop of stone and subtle nuttiness. With a little more air, the characteristic notes of mature Riesling appear: some lifted chamomile and candied orange peel, but only in their early stages. This is a wine of immense depth and deceptive lightness that has years of life ahead. Drink through 2030. Score: 95 (Anne Krebiehl, MW, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2016)

PERRIER-JOUËT BELLE ÉPOQUE BRUT CHAMPAGNE 2007
AC

135798 (D) 750mL $223.00

TASTING NOTE: The smoky overtone of this elegant Champagne is richly aromatic, wafting through flavors of toasted brioche, glazed apricot and lemon meringue pie. Fine and creamy, with a well-knit, lightly spiced finish. Drink now through 2026. Score: 93 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Dec. 15, 2016)

GASTON CHIQUET GRAND CRU D'Ax BLANC DE BLANCS BRUT CHAMPAGNE
AC

63768 (D) 750mL $62.00

TASTING NOTE: Very nicely captured fragrance here, plus subtly complex minerals and lemon/lime notes with a yeasty thread too; very pure. The palate's built in subtle layers, with initial crisp lemon and grapefruit flavors wrapped in toasty grilled almonds. Really fine, delicate and focused. Drink now. Score: 92 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, July 10, 2015)

RUINART BRUT ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE
AC

662536 (D) 750mL $113.00

TASTING NOTE: Chalky in texture, this firm rosé is finely integrated, with a rich, smoky underpinning and a subtle mesh of dried strawberry, orange peel, clover honey and ground ginger on the palate. Enjoy with light fare and charcuterie. Drink now through 2020. Score: 93 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2015)

VEUVE CLICQUOT EXTRA BRUT EXTRA OLD
AC

507889 (XD) 750mL $123.00

In creating this new wine in the Veuve Clicquot stable, cellar master Dominique Demarville blends the Extra Brut Extra Old entirely from reserve wines - specifically from the 1988, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 vintages - and adds a low dosage of just 3 g/L (compare the Veuve Yellow Label at 10 g/L). After blending, the wine ages a further three years in bottle, making this a unique and exceptionally complex bubbly with a remarkable combination of smoothness and freshness.

DOMAINE DU PÉLICAN ARBOIS SAVAGNIN 2015
AC Arbois

497099 (XD) 750mL $51.00

Arbois is a town in the north of the Jura region of eastern France. The wine capital of Jura, it gives its name to the region's most prolific appellation for red, white and rosé wines. The appellation itself was introduced in 1936 and covers 13 communes on the hills and valley slopes surrounding the town. The terroir is characterized by limestone and marlstone screes and sandy soils, and its wines typically express brilliant natural acidity and complex minerality. Domaine de Pélican's Savagnin is a particularly nervy expression, which reaffirms Jura as the variety's spiritual home.

DOMAINE DU CLOS DES FÉES VIEILLES VIGNES 2013
AC Côtes du Roussillon-Villages

461863 (XD) 750mL $43.00

TASTING NOTE: Readers looking for a great intro into this estate, as well as a terrific value, should check out the 2013 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Vieilles Vignes. Made from a concrete tank aged blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah, this beauty offers lots of garrigue, cured meats, violets and licorice-laced dark fruits in a medium to full-bodied, seamless, balanced style. Similar in style to Clos des Fees release, only more forward and ready to go, it should drink nicely for another 7-8 years, and probably longer. Drink Date: 2016-2024. Score: 93 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, April 27, 2016)

BRÜNDLMAYER ZÖBINGER HEILIGENSTEIN RIESLING 2014
DAC Kamptal

297606 (D) 750mL $43.00

TASTING NOTE: Perfumed with floral, citric freshness this evokes jasmine blossom and cut grapefruit peel. The palate is of an exquisite lightness and a slight spritz adds extra zip to the already electric little number. Just one sip of this ultrapure, racy wine and you are thoroughly refreshed. This is a Riesling that spells summer. Score: 93 (Anne Krebiehl, MW, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2015)

ZELTINGER SCHLOSSBERG RIESLING SPÄTLESE* 2014
Mosel

499434 (M) 750mL $27.00

TASTING NOTE: The one-starred 2014 Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese* is clear, fine and spicy on the nose, very elegant but still discreet. Although picked in the high 90° Oechsle sphere, this is a very elegant, cool, clear, nicely piquant and mineral-scented Spätlese with grapefruit flavors. This fuder selection has more finesse and purity than the regular Spätlese, but was still restrained in January when I tasted it. Drink Date: 2020-2040. Score: 92+ (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

ELIO GRASSO GINESTRA CASA MATÉ BAROLO 2012
DOCG

81794 (XD) 750mL $104.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté soars out of the glass with remarkable precision, tension and energy. A brilliant wine, the 2012 is translucent, powerful and super-expressive. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, mint and pine give the 2012 its sensual, inviting personality. Today, it is the wine's pure nuance that truly stands out. This is a superb showing from the 2012. In this tasting, the Ginestra is much more expressive than the Gavarini. This is an especially precise style for the year. Drinking window: 2020-2037. Score: 96 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Nov. 2016)

MANZONE GRAMOLERE BAROLO 2012
DOCG

318105 (XD) 750mL $64.00

TASTING NOTE: A dense and beautiful red with plum, chocolate and mineral character. Hints of sandalwood too. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a delicious finish. Already gorgeous. Drink or hold. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, March 10. 2016)

BASARIN RISERVA BARBARESCO 2011
DOCG

497123 (XD) 750mL $44.00

TASTING NOTE: This rich red is fruity and solidly built, showing flavors of cherry, strawberry, leather, underbrush and tar. Harmonious, offering a glimpse of where this will be in a few years. Best from 2018 through 2030. Smart Buys. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Nov. 30, 2015)

PLANETA SANTA CECILIA NOTO 2011
DOC Noto

354589 (XD) 750mL $45.00

TASTING NOTE: Always one of the finest expressions of Nero d'Avola, this polished, delicious wine opens with enticing aromas of blue flower, dark berry and a whiff of smoky graphite. The smooth, almost creamy palate doles out layers of blackberry, pomegranate, raspberry, white pepper, carob and licorice, while velvety tannins and fresh acidity provide support. Drink through 2021. Editors' Choice. Score: 94 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2015)

PETROLO GALATRONA 2014
DOC Val d'Arno di Sopra

21998 (XD) 750mL $146.00

TASTING NOTE: The polish and fine texture to this 2014 is impressive with blueberry, dark chocolate and light walnut aromas and flavors. Medium body, integrated tannins and a long, refined finish. Serious sense for the vintage. Better in 2017. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, July 19, 2016)

NITTARDI RISERVA CHIANTI CLASSICO 2013
DOCG

417238 (XD) 750mL $68.00

TASTING NOTE: Lots of blueberry and blackberry aromas follow through to a medium body, firm tannins and a clean finish. Fantastic length to this. Drink now. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 9, 2016)

RUFFINO GREPPONE MAZZI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

926402 (XD) 750mL $52.00

TASTING NOTE: Underbrush, tobacco, new leather, crushed herb and a whiff of mature plum lead the way. The juicy full-bodied palate is still young and taut, evoking ripe black cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice, clove and a hint of coffee. A backbone of youthfully austere fine-grained tannins and bright acidity gives it an age-worthy structure and balance. Drink 2020-2032. Cellar Selection. Score: 94 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, May 1, 2017)

LA FIORITA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

998195 (XD) 750mL $82.00

Stays focused and long, with a succulent finish. Best from 2019 through 2036. Score: 95 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, June 30, 2015)

LENA DI MEZZO SCARNOCCHIO AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2011
DOC

316489 (XD) 750mL $78.00

TASTING NOTE: Tarry smoke, cured tobacco and espresso notes underscore sun-dried black cherry, date, mandarin orange peel, fragrant ground anise and clove spice accents in this mouthwatering red. Finely knit and harmonious, with plush tannins on the creamy finish. Drink now through 2026. Score: 92 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2016)

QUINTA DE LA ROSA RESERVA 2013
DOC Douro

265827 (D) 750mL $48.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Reserva is the last in our vertical, although recently seen. It adds a bit of depth to the 2012, although its fruit is not quite as lifted. It is seductive and tasty, with impeccable balance, good concentration and an elegant feel. It has already pulled in some oak. With air, it shows off some power and takes on weight. In a difficult year, this is a surprisingly good Reserva and I continue to like it a lot. Drink Date: 2017-2033. Score: 93 (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

VALDERIZ 2011
DO Ribera del Duero

385856 (D) 750mL $41.00

TASTING NOTE: This rich red is plush and deep, with a firm backbone and balsamic acidity imparting focus. The plum, currant, loamy earth and licorice flavors are deep and harmonious. Deceptively approachable, with plenty of concentration. Drink now through 2026. Score: 94 (Thomas Matthews, winespectator.com, June 30, 2016)

TAWSE CHERRY AVENUE PINOT NOIR 2013
VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment

398347 (XD) 750mL $48.95

TASTING NOTE: There's a distinctive, bright, open red cherry fruit character here: it's almost liqueur-like and seamless, but very fresh and fruity. Supple, berryish and quite elegant with nice fruit purity and good acidity. Score: 92 (Jamie Goode, wineanorak.com, Feb. 19, 2017)

TURKEY FLAT SHIRAZ 2014
Barossa Valley, Australie-Méridionale

287771 (D) 750mL $56.00

TASTING NOTE: All of the mainstream red winemaking options are used, demanding (and receiving) unrelenting attention to detail. This is a hero Barossa Valley shiraz, its backbone planted in 1847, with great colour, profound complexity, yet retaining a calm personality within its array of primary, fresh flavours. Drink By: 2044. Special Value. Score: 97 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Nov. 3, 2016)

WEST CAPE HOWE BOOK ENDS CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Great Southern, Western Australia

508077 (XD) 750mL $37.00

TASTING NOTE: From several vineyards, each portion fermented and matured (18 months) separately in new and used French barriques. Deep, bright crimson-purple; a great example of the vitality and varietal clarity that West Cape Howe brings to its wines, terroir riding high. Its cassis fruit is mouthwatering, not a phrase you would normally use with cabernet, but true here. Special value. Drink By: 2034. Score: 96 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Nov. 3, 2016)

BROKENWOOD WADE BLOCK 2 SHIRAZ 2013
McLaren Vale

681171 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: From the vineyard in Blewitt Springs, matured for 20 months in French oak. It's a strange day when a wine with this intensity of flavour and structure says drink me before my Hunter Valley brethren, although it's a tight call. Savoury, earthy blackberry fruit has a substrate of licorice and 70% cacao chocolate. Drink By: 2038. Score: 95 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 2, 2016)

TYRRELL'S VAT 1 HUNTER SEMILLON 2012
Hunter Valley, New South Wales

930495 (XD) 750mL $57.00

TASTING NOTE: Sold through the Private Bin Wine Club only as a young wine, the main commercial release six years later; it obviously comes from the best, well-drained blocks that have always been the main source of Vat 1; lemon juice and lemon curd flavours follow logically from the bouquet, lemony acidity lingering long in the mouth after the wine is swallowed. Drink By: 2020. Score: 95 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, July 11, 2013)

CATENA ALTA CHARDONNAY 2015
Mendoza

959973 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: The super fresh and elegant 2015 Catena Alta Chardonnay has penetrating aromas and I could swear I smelled wet stones, a soil-driven white that feels cleaner and sharper than the 2014. The palate has electric acidity, moderate alcohol and great freshness. It finishes with an austere, mineral-driven sensation. It would be fun to put this wine as a ringer in a blind white Burgundy tasting. Drink Date: 2016-2020. Score: 93 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

QUINTESSA 2014
Rutherford, Napa Valley

391086 (XD) 750mL $230.00

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of spearmint, sweet tobacco, cigars and blackcurrants follow through to a medium to full body, very polished and refined tannins and an intense finish. Extremely fine and long. Savory. Extremely long finish. Biodynamically grown. Score: 97 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Jan. 26, 2017)

ARAUJO EISELE VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

329227 (XD) 750mL $754.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, which is also 100% of this varietal, behaves similarly to how the 2013 Altagracia did compared to its older sibling. Inky, bluish purple with a beautifully pure nose of blueberries, blackberries and cassis with background floral notes, this full-bodied wine (14.8% alcohol) tastes a lot younger and less evolved than its 2012 counterpart. I'd think this was a barrel sample, then again, it's only been in bottle for three months. Beautiful layers of fruit, velvety more noticeable tannin, exquisite purity and an almost endless finish make for a remarkable effort that needs another 5-6 years of cellaring and should keep 30 to 40+ years, particularly in view of how Eiseles from the early 1970s have lasted. Drink Date: 2016-2056. Score: 99 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

JONATA EL ALMA DE JONATA 2013
Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County

218925 (XD) 750mL $218.00

TASTING NOTE: Silky, aromatic and expressive, the 2013 El Alma de Jonata graces the palate with exquisite finesse. The Cabernet Franc notes dominate, of course, but it is the wine's exceptional balance that is most remarkable. Sweet red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint shape the silky, perfumed finish. What a striking wine this is. The 2013 is 81% Cabernet Franc, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Drinking window: 2017-2023. Score: 96+ (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Sept. 2016)

JONATA TODOS RED 2013
Santa Barbara County

218941 (XD) 750mL $82.00

TASTING NOTE: Lastly, the entry level 2013 Todos Proprietary Red Wine is a smokin' wine that's made from 78% Syrah, 15% Sangiovese, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Viognier, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot. Full-bodied, supple, elegant and concentrated, with impeccable balance, it offers lots of purple fruit characteristics, spice, dried flowers and underbrush aromas and flavors. It's one of the more approachable wines in the lineup, yet it will evolve for a decade or more on its purity and balance. Drink Date: 2016-2026. Score: 94 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

SILVERADO SOLO CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Stags Leap District, Napa Valley

472175 (XD) 750mL $160.00

TASTING NOTE: A firm and silky red with blackberry, lavender and lilac aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, firm and refined. A little subdued now but should open with a few years of bottle age. Drink in 2018. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Jan. 15, 2016)

ZOTOVICH ESTATE PINOT NOIR 2013
Santa Rita Hills

508317 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: A lifted, precise wine, the 2013 Pinot Noir Estate Grown is all class. Sweet red cherry, herbs, rose petal and spice open up in a super-expressive, mid-weight Pinot. I very much like the sense of energy and tension that is such a central part of the wine's personality. The 2013 was done with fully destemmed fruit. Score: 93 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, June 2015)

GRGICH HILLS ESTATE GROWN ZINFANDEL 2012
Napa Valley

903237 (D) 750mL $55.00

TASTING NOTE: This is an exuberantly fruity, spicy and robust wine, speckled with 2% Petite Sirah. Dark and full of red berry flavor, the palate is dusted in brown sugar and black pepper. Ripe and concentrated, it drinks smooth and elegant despite its serious power. Score: 90 (Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, Aug. 1, 2016)

MERUS CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Napa Valley

508291 (XD) 750mL $278.00

TASTING NOTE: From winemakers Dave Lattin and David Ramey, this tremendous wine is sourced from both Coombsville and Yountville, with small amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot in the blend, the latter from Soda Canyon. Smoky cigar, tar and meat direct the nose, atop concentrated, dark, brooding fruit and leathery tannins. Cellar through 2020. Cellar Selection. Score: 94 (Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, Nov. 1, 2015)

TRINCHERO BRV CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
