THE CLASSICS COLLECTION

SEPTEMBER 2017

8 VINTAGES

LOUIS JADOT ABBAYE D’MORGEOT

CHASSAGNESMONTRACHET 1

ER

CRU

2014

AC

TaSTING NOTE:

a firmly reduced

nose does not extend to the super rich,

concentrated and opulent medium

weight flavors that possess very solid

depth and length. The overt opulence

will allow this to be approached young

but it should have no trouble rewarding

6 to 8 years of bottle age too. Drink

2021+. Score:

LOUIS JADOT CHASSAGNE

MONTRACHET 2014

AC

TaSTING NOTE:

Winemaker Frédéric

Barnier hit with this vintage of Chassagne,

creating a voluptuous cream puff of a

wine with a firm, mineral underpinning.

almost flinty in its reduction, the wine pops

with freshness, with scents of tangerine,

salty briskness and some darker root-

vegetable notes adding depth. It feels

ornate with mineral riches, a wine to enjoy

as it evolves over the next several years,

and to start by decanting a bottle now.

CHABLIS

WHITE WINE

BILLAUDSSIMON LES PREUSES

CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2014

AC

TaSTING NOTE:

a pungently expressive

and highly complex nose is composed of

petrol, citrus, white flower, pear and sea

shore elements. The subtly mineral and

highly complex flavors possess a highly

beguiling texture before culminating in a

strikingly long finish that is Zen-like in its

harmony. This borderline painfully intense

offering is a notably special effort that is

worth the trouble to find. Drink: 2024+.

DOMAINE JEANSMARC

BROCARD BOUGROS CHABLIS

GRAND CRU 2014

AC

TaSTING NOTE:

Bougros is one of the

richest, [most] opulent of the Grand Cru

Chablis. In this fruit-driven year, the wine is

wonderfully spicy, rich and full of fine fruit.

yellow fruits dominate the balancing citrus

and wood flavors. It is so forward that it

could be drunk now, but this fine wine will

be much better from 2019. Score:

SECHETS CHABLIS 1

ER

CRU 2011

AC

TaSTING NOTE:

The 2011 Chablis

1

er

Cru Sechets surpassed all my expecta-

tions. It has an unbridled bouquet with

wonderful scents of limestone, freshly

squeezed lime and Granny Smith apples.

The palate is crisp and fresh with subtle

apricot and tangerine notes, a crisp citric

thread of acidity and a composed finish

with a dab of ginger on the aftertaste.

DOMAINE SAINT PREFERT CHARLES

GIRAUD CHÂTEAUNEUFSDUSPAPE

2014

AC

TaSTING NOTE:

Dense for the vintage,

with a core of fig and blackberry fruit

that has meldedwith ample pepper, tobacco

and lavender notes. This has plenty in

reserve, though the long, juicy finish lets

everything play out, leaving a light

sanguine echo at the very end. Should age

well. Best from 2017 through 2029.

WHITE WINE

GUSTAVE LORENTZ VIEILLES

VIGNES ALTENBERG DE BERGHEIM

GEWURZTRAMINER 2010

AC Alsace Grand Cru

TaSTING NOTE:

Opening to beautifully

clear and mineral-scented Gewurz aromas

with darker toned, bitter orange flavors,

freshly crushed flintstone and some honey

aromas, the 2010 Gewurztraminer Grand

Cru altenberg de Bergheim Vieilles Vignes

indicates a very precise and elegant

intensity on the nose. On the tongue this

is a full-bodied, round, intense and elegant

Gewurztraminer with a mineral structure

and refreshingly vibrant acidity. The lingering

salinity in the elegant finish reveals nice

bitter orange flavors (candied lemon and

orange zests) and a great intensity in the

aftertaste. Technically medium-dry –14%

alcohol plus 31 grams per liter of residual

sugar – this is a delicate food wine with

an impressive purity and piquancy in the

finish. Try with intensely flavored dishes

of the Indian or asian cuisine. Drink Date:

2015-2025. Score:

92
