ROYAL TOKAJI 6 PUTTONYOS

MÉZES MÁLY TOKAJI AZSÚ 2009

Tokaj-Hegyalja

TaSTING NOTE:

The 2009 vintage was

a tricky one in Tokaji, with drought and

heat speeding ripeness through the summer,

then October rain falling on the superripe

berries. Even forced to pick early, the Royal

Tokaji team managed to pull in a luscious

aszú fromMezes Maly, its First Growth

vineyard in Tarcal. It smells of pure honey

and feels as round as a peach, the 220

grams of sugar it packs is fully saturated

with profound fruit flavor. Those flavors

remain fresh for days after opening, the

acidity drawing an elegant line through

the wine that keeps it energetic. Gorgeous

now, it should also age well for decades.

RED WINE

PATERNOSTER DON ANSELMO

AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE 2012

DOC

TaSTING NOTE:

Paternoster releases

another spectacular edition of their

flagship wine despite the more challenging

conditions of this hot vintage. The 2012

aglianico del Vulture Don anselmo is a fine

specimen of aglianico that offers a

seductively dark and velvety appearance.

The bouquet reveals dark fruit, spice,

chocolate, grilled herb and black mineral.

This is a full-bodied red with well-managed

tannins. This edition is not as long-lasting

or deep as the excellent 2010, but it

deserves positive praise nonetheless.

powerful and complex, offering pure flavors

of floral red fruit and spicy herbs and

noteworthy tannin/fruit/alcohol balance.

Seamless and very bright, featuring a

whiplash of refreshing acidity and floral

red berries on the very long finish. This

is a knockout Taurasi that will age splendidly,

though it’s already approachable now.

are located at 550-600 meters above

sea level on clay-calcareous soils. ages 36

months in barriques and large oak barrels.

This classically crafted

Barolo has a balsamic fragrance of

eucalyptus, thyme and bay leaf, with hints

of rose and leather. The palate delivers

wild cherry and mint flavors that show layers

of depth. With its firm, ripe tannins and

fresh acidity, this is already enjoyable, but

will age well for a decade or more.

CAVALLOTTO BRICCO BOSCHIS

VIGNA SAN GIUSEPPE RISERVA

BAROLO 2010

an old-school style,

this complex red features an array of

cherry, berry, leather, tobacco and under-

brush flavors, backed by a dense, beefy

structure. Long and powerful, with a

savory, saline aftertaste. Shows ample

fruit up front, but should be better in two

to three years. Best from 2019 through
