RED WINE

ARGIANO BRUNELLO

DI MONTALCINO 2012

DOCG

TaSTING NOTE:

The argiano 2012

Brunello di Montalcino does a great job of

interpreting the vintage and of showcasing

its special microclimate on the southern

flank of the Montalcino appellation. Both

these elements point to warm-climate

Sangiovese. and argiano accepts that

challenge with creativity and expertise.

This is a proud expression of the grape

with thick texture, determination and

a succulent approach. aromas of dark

cherry, moist earth, tobacco and grilled

herb lift from the bouquet. Bright acidity

marks the close. The wine still carries

its baby fat and needs a fewmore years of

cellar aging in order to fully express itself.

Drink Date: 2018-2030. Score:

BANFI POGGIO ALLE MURA RISERVA

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2011

DOCG

TaSTING NOTE:

This wine is on an

impressive upward swing in recent years.

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio

alle Mura is a dense, full and generous

Brunello. It presents classic aromas of

blackberry, dried cherry, pressed rose,

cola, tobacco and grilled herb. In fact, it really

doesn’t leave anything out. The vintage

heat has been well-managed thanks to

careful fruit selection and custom farming

studied for this special vineyard plot.

Castello Banfi rarely gets anything wrong.

If you are looking for a popular Brunello

that delivers the goods in this vintage, this

wine makes a great choice. It doesn’t

offer the off-beat idiosyncrasies and eclectic

eccentricities of Montalcino’s smaller

boutique estates, but it does offer rock

solid consistency. Drink Date: 2017-2030.

NIPOZZANO VECCHIE VITI RISERVA

RÚFINA CHIANTI 2013

DOCG

(Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi)

TaSTING NOTE:

The 2013 Chianti Rufina

Riserva Nipozzano Vecchie Viti is elegant

and sophisticated with mild and somewhat

tame intensity all the while. This wine hits

all the right sweet spots as a food-friendly

Tuscan red that would taste great next

to pasta with wild boar ragù. I enjoyed the

linearity, honesty and the straightforward

nature of this wine. Score:
