JANNEAU GRAND ARMAGNAC
AC

513606 750mL $200.00

This spirit is distilled from grapes sourced from the finest AC vineyards of Bas Armagnac and Tenarèze. It is matured in French oak casks, from the neighbouring forests of Monlezun and Limousin, in which it slowly develops the characteristic golden colour and unique mellow flavours for which Janneau is famous.

CHÂTEAU LA TOUR CARNET 2010
AC Haut-Médoc

220178 (XD) 750mL $87.00

TASTING NOTE: Probably La Tour Carnet's best since their 2001, the 2010 La Tour Carnet exhibits wonderful ripeness, a dense ruby/purple color, notes of licorice, camphor and some toast as well as lots of black currant and blueberry fruit. It is medium to full-bodied, with attractive sweetness of tannin, good acidity, excellent delineation to its component parts, and a full-bodied, impressively long finish. This wine may close down somewhat, given the moderate tannins, but it seems relatively accessible despite being a 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2035. Drink Date: 2018-2035. Score: 93 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

LES PAGODES DE COS 2010
AC

412106 (XD) 750mL $130.00

TASTING NOTE: Probably the best second wine ever made at Cos (although the 2009 should not be discounted), the 2010 Les Pagodes de Cos is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot finishing at 14% natural alcohol. This wine exhibits beautiful, silky tannins as well as sweet, rich mulberry and black currant fruit with hints of spring flowers, licorice and subtle toast. A full-bodied, opulent and ideal second wine, most people who have tasted it would probably agree that it is actually better than many vintages of Cos d-Estournel from the 1960s and 1970s. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Drink Date: 2013-2028. Score: 93 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

CHÂTEAU BRANE-CANTENAC 2009
AC Margaux, Grand cru classé en 1855

516666 (XD) 750mL $210.00

TASTING NOTE: Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château, the 2009 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 40% Merlot, 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc, has an extremely pure and sensual bouquet with ripe red cherries, blackberry, minerals and incense that is totally irresistible. The palate is silky smooth with very fine tannin, a great core of tensile red berry fruit with compelling mineralité towards the structured, Pauillac-like finish. This is a top-quality Brane-Cantenac, one of the best under Henri Lurton. One of the most prosaically "delicious" Brane-Cantenac releases in recent years. Tasted April 2015. Drink Date: 2017-2045. Score: 94 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

CHÂTEAU LA CROIX DU CASSE 2009
AC Pomerol

436097 (D) 750mL $83.00

TASTING NOTE: This is a powerful, dry wine, with firm tannins that are balanced by a ripe plum note and freshened by the fruity acidity. It feels dark and dense, and it is likely to age well over 8-10 years. Cellar Selection. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 1, 2013)

CHÂTEAU PRIEURÉ-LICHINE 2009
AC Margaux, Grand cru classé

2261 (XD) 750mL $148.00

TASTING NOTE: The soft, sexy 2009 exhibits a dense plum/purple color along with a big, sweet bouquet of raspberries, black cherries, black currants, smoke and forest floor. Opulent and round with an attractive viscosity as well as outstanding purity, depth and length, it should drink well for two decades. While not one of the longest lived wines of the vintage, it is among the most precocious, flattering and charming at present. Drink Date: 2012-2032. Score: 93 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 22, 2011)

CHATEAU PIPEAU 2008
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

522391 (XD) 3000mL $267.00

TASTING NOTE: This sexy, seductive 2008 offers abundant notes of Asian plum sauce, blueberries and black currants, a seductive, plush texture, impressive purity and a long, elegant finish. Dark ruby/purple and medium to full-bodied, this wine should be drunk now and over the next 8-10 years. Drink Date: 2011-2021. Score: 90 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, May 1, 2011)

CHÂTEAU PIPEAU 2006
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

522383 (XD) 3000mL $267.00

TASTING NOTE: Shows black licorice, black pepper and berries on the nose. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and ripe, chewy tannins, but in balance. This has very stylish flavors. Should be nice to drink soon. Always excellent value. Best after 2012. Score: 90 (James Suckling, winespectator.com, March 31, 2009)

CHÂTEAU L'HERMITAGE 2005
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

401968 (XD) 750mL $110.00

TASTING NOTE: L'Hermitage, one of the original garagiste estates, is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc from a small 9-acre site sandwiched between such titans of St.-Emilion as Beausejour-Duffau and Angelus. The 2005 is typically pure, medium to full-bodied, opulent, and showy, with more elegance (largely because of its fresh, lively acidity) and serious structure than usual. Its intense aromatics of blackberry, black cherry, and herbs is backed-up by a full-bodied wine possessing ripe tannin as well as outstanding weight, length, and overall harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2022. Score: 92 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, April 29, 2008)

CHÂTEAU BARDE-HAUT 2004
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

62646 (XD) 750mL $58.00

TASTING NOTE: A gorgeous nose of ripe raspberry, with hints of vanilla and blackberry. Intense yet subtle. Full-bodied, with lots of fruit, yet refined and layered with silky tannins. Long and caressing. Gets better and better. I like it more than the 2003 or the 2000. Best after 2012. Score: 91 (James Suckling, winespectator.com, March 31, 2007)

CHÂTEAU LATOUR 2001
1er cru, AC Pauillac

506303 (XD) 750mL $1,470.00

TASTING NOTE: A brilliant offering, which should be drinkable much earlier than the blockbuster 2000, the 2001 Latour boasts an inky/ruby/purple color to the rim as well as a glorious bouquet of black currants, crushed stones, vanilla, and hints of truffles and oak. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance primarily Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it reveals a sweetness on the palate that is atypical for such a young Latour. The beautiful integration of tannin, acidity, and wood is stunning. The wine flows across the palate with fabulous texture, purity, and presence. This luscious, full-bodied Latour was surprisingly open-knit on the three occasions I tasted it from bottle. However, do not mistake its aging ability as this 2001, despite its precociousness, will last 20-25 years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, June 29, 2004)

CHÂTEAU PIPEAU 2001
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

522375 (XD) 3000mL $280.00

TASTING NOTE: Gorgeous aromas of blackberry, with minerals and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. Delicious already but will be better with a little time. Best after 2007. Score: 90 (James Suckling, winespectator.com, 2007)

CHÂTEAU PIPEAU 1999
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

102756 (XD) 3000mL $300.00

TASTING NOTE: (Translated from the French): This 1999 was barrel-aged for only 12 months, which is perfect: 80% Merlot complemented by the two Cabernets in equal parts, producing an exquisite dark garnet colour. On the nose are ripe aromas of red and black fruits, supported by a lovely oak. The palate reveals a marvellous concentration, generous volume, breadth and body, and a long, tasty finish. Wonderful for cellaring. Score: 1 Stars (out of 3) (Guide Hachette, 2003)

LA CHAPELLE DE LAFAURIE-PEYRAGUEY 2009
Second wine of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, AC Sauternes

477588 (S) 375mL $29.00

TASTING NOTE: Remarkably bright and lively, with an almost dry edge of blanched almond and white peach that skirts the core of citrus pâte de fruit and shortbread. Open and inviting through the finish. Best from 2013 through 2020. 2,941 cases made. Score: 90 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2012)

JOSEPH DROUHIN MUSIGNY GRAND CRU 2015
AC

962860 (XD) 750mL $998.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Musigny Grand Cru has a thoroughbred bouquet with ripe blackberry, briary, undergrowth and marine scents that blossom in the glass. The palate is supple in the mouth, perhaps less tensile than the Bonnes Mares albeit with superb depth and grip. You are almost on the verge of dismissing this Musigny, then it fans out in convincing fashion, with plenty of gusto and conviction, belatedly reminding you that this is one of the most revered vineyards in the world. Perhaps not as immediate as the Bonnes-Mares, nevertheless, this will turn out to be grandiose Musigny destined to be up there with the best. Drink Date: 2022-2050. VINCENT GIRARDIN VIEILLES VIGNES SAVIGNY-LÈS-BEAUNE 2015
AC

516641 (XD) 750mL $49.00

The village of Savigny-lès-Beaune is located a few kilometres north of the village of Beaune. The vineyards of Savigny-lès-Beaune are some of the oldest of Burgundy, and rest on chalk and gravel soils. This wine is grown on vines 50 years old, hand-picked and fermented in stainless steel before maturing 14 months in French oak, whereupon it is bottled without fining or filtration.

DAVID MOREAU CLOS DES MOUCHES SANTENAY 1ER CRU 2014
AC

514539 (XD) 750mL $69.00

David Moreau makes two premier cru Santenay wines, Clos Rousseau and this, the Clos des Mouches. The terroir of Clos des Mouches gives a very fine wine with silky tannins, and delicate red berries and violet flavours. Drink it through 2030.

DOMAINE ARMAND ROUSSEAU CLOS DE LA ROCHE GRAND CRU 2014
AC

675702 (XD) 750mL $290.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet, coquettish at first, then opening with wet limestone, Morello and cassis scents; it is very defined and focused though not powerful. The palate is silky smooth on the entry, beautifully poised with pure red cherries infused with orange sorbet and captivating mineralité on the finish. This is one of the best Clos de la Roche that I have tasted from Rousseau in recent years. Drink Date: 2019-2040. Score: 94-96 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

DOMAINE CHANDON DE BRIAILLES LES LAVIÈRES SAVIGNY-LÈS-BEAUNE 1ER CRU 2014
AC

499756 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: This is both more complex and more elegant with a lovely airiness to the cool red cherry, pomegranate, earth and floral aromas. There is excellent detail to the delicious, lilting and precise medium weight flavors where the mouth feel benefits from the relatively fine-grained tannins, all wrapped in a mildly austere and sauvage finish. This is really quite pretty but it is built-to-age and will need at least 4 to 5 years of cellar time. Drink: 2022+. Score: 91 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, April 15, 2016)

DOMAINE PIERRE DAMOY CHAMBERTIN-CLOS DE BÈZE GRAND CRU 2014
AC

497313 (XD) 750mL $439.00

TASTING NOTE: Here the equally restrained nose is quite similar to that of the Chambertin though there are a bit more spice elements discernible. The attractively vibrant, rich, round, opulent and suave medium weight plus flavors possess excellent dry extract levels that buffer the very firm yet refined tannins on the impressively enduring finish. This mildly austere and imposingly structured effort possesses fine development potential and, I underscore, will need it. Drink: 2029+. Score: 94 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Jan. 15, 2017)

DOMAINE TAUPENOT-MERME LA COMBE D'ORVEAU CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 1ER CRU 2014
AC

497305 (XD) 750mL $164.00

TASTING NOTE: A firm, intriguing nose which translates to a flavourful attack in the mouth. This finishes with great energy, and will certainly still pack a punch in years to come. What a beautifully perfumed nose! There are pure raspberry notes and generous swelling fruit across the palate. The oak is well integrated and the fruit returns again at the back. Very classy. A more evolved bouquet featuring fresh raspberry and orange rind; this is the prelude to quite a savoury wine, an interesting attractive quality that makes for a divine mouthful. Drink: 2019-2026. Score: 95 (Tasting panel, decanter.com, Dec. 22, 2016)

ALAIN CHAVY LES CHARMES PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 2013

TASTING NOTE: A mix of toast, butterscotch, peach and lemon flavors mingle in this elegant white. Lean and focused on the lingering finish. Drink now through 2019. Score: 89 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, June 15, 2016)

ROCHE DE BELLENE SENTIERS CHAMBOLLE MUSIGNY 1ER CRU 1999
AC

514422 (XD) 750mL $114.00

"Nineteen ninety-nine was a gift from the Gods: a vintage both plentiful and successful: not only of high quality but consistent geographically and hierarchically ... Harmony is the key to longevity. When it is supported by good structure, the time-span, the window of opportunity, can be much more extended than we expect. All good reds of a good vintage, plus most of the whites of premier cru level and above, require ten years to show their paces. This is very true of the 1999s. As you will see, there are very few disappointing wines. To those who possess stocks of the vintage, I say: yes, you can start drinking, but don't be in too much of a hurry to empty your bins. There are plenty of bottles which will still be in a vigorous prime in 2019." (Clive Coates MW, clive-coates.com, 2009)

VINCENT GIRARDIN VIEILLES VIGNES SAINT-ROMAIN 2015
AC

523084 (XD) 750mL $44.00

Saint-Romain is a small village in the Côte de Beaune, and its vineyards are situated just west of Auxey-Duresses. The vineyards are planted more to Pinot Noir than Chardonnay, making this wine a rarity. Taught by Vincent Girardin, winemaker Eric Germain applies his expertise to expressing the quintessence of Burgundy's terroirs.

AU PIED DU MONT CHAUVÉ LES CHAUMÉES CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 1ER CRU 2014
AC

523092 (XD) 750mL $106.00

TASTING NOTE: Rounded, rich, punchy nose - brûléed oranges. Ripe with a strong pull of fruit and smoke across the palate. Grace and oodles of charm, muscle and direction. Fruit-formed intensity on the mid palate with beautifully integrated acidity. Gorgeous fruit! A hedonistic note of caramel lingers on the finish, undercut with tingling clementine notes that pull on and on and on. Drink 2017-2024. Score: 17.5 (out of 20) (Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Jan. 8, 2017)

DOMAINE SERVIN BLANCHOTS CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2014
AC

351502 (XD) 750mL $76.00

TASTING NOTE: The refined and admirably pure if highly restrained nose is comprised by white flower, tidal pool and subtle spice aromas that are followed by citrus and mineral-infused flavors that are attractively textured, precise and explosive on the hugely long and very dry finish. This beauty is a lovely combination of power and finesse while delivering buckets of Chablis character. Lovely if not necessarily more interesting than the Vaillons. Drink: 2020+. MAISON LOUIS JADOT CHABLIS 1ER CRU FOURCHAUME 2014
AC

520882 (XD) 750mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: Bright, light yellow. Distinct spicy lift to the aromas of lemon and yellow peach, plus a hint of honeysuckle; smells a bit like Meursault on the Puligny side. Smooth, rich and dry, with a strong saline element contributing to its tautness and inner-mouth lift. The oak element is pronounced today but this wine has plenty of underlying citrus and stone fruits, and the density to merit patience. Drinking window: 2018-2024. BILLAUD-SIMON VAUDÉSIR CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2012
AC

328336 (XD) 750mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir has a crisp and precise, granitic nose that blossoms with aeration. The palate is very well-focused with good depth, hints of orange peel, tangerine and a dash of ginger livening up the finish that feels long in the mouth. Great potential here. Score: 92 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2014)

DOMAINE COURBIS LES ROYES SAINT-JOSEPH 2015
AC

973719 (XD) 750mL $48.00

TASTING NOTE: The inky black/blue-colored 2015 Saint Joseph les Royes from the Courbis team was brought up in one-third each of new, once and twice-used barrels. It offers sensational notes of crème de cassis toasted bread, licorice and pen ink in a massive, rich, concentrated, layered style that is shocking in its depth and richness. It's a crazy good St Joseph. Score: 93-95+ (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

DOMAINE LES PAILLIÈRES LES RACINES GIGONDAS 2014
AC

473991 (XD) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Gigondas les Racines is truly gorgeous, and a serious wine in a difficult vintage for the appellation. From yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, it has beautiful notes of black cherries, blackberries, hints of pepper and bouquet garni in a medium-bodied, ultra-fine, ultra-pure style. It's a hidden little gem that will keep for a decade. Drink Date: 2016-2026. Score: 92 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

E. GUIGAL LIEU-DIT SAINT-JOSEPH 2014
AC

524264 (XD) 750mL $63.00

TASTING NOTE: Scheduled to be bottled just after my visit, the 2014 St Joseph Lieu Dit St Joseph is a solid step up over the classic St Joseph cuvée and possesses a more rounded and sexy style, as well as terrific notes of black raspberries, mulled black currants, cured meats and toasted spices. This medium to full-bodied effort has good mid-palate density and sweet tannin, all pointing to it evolving gracefully for a decade. Score: 90-92 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

M. CHAPOUTIER CROIX DE BOIS CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2012
AC

293621 (XD) 750mL $142.00

TASTING NOTE: This is dreamy, with stunning raspberry pâte de fruit and boysenberry confiture notes that glide effortlessly, while very silky tannins ride underneath. Shiso leaf, pastis, lavender and warm stone accents fill in on the finish, with a deeply buried graphite hint. This should really stretch out with time, as the acidity is racy and mouthwatering. Best from 2018 through 2030. Score: 95 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, April 30, 2015)

DOMAINE DE LA SOLITUDE RÉSERVE SECRÈTE CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2010
AC

499871 (XD) 750mL $125.00

TASTING NOTE: A blend of roughly 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah that was brought up in 60% new barrels, the sensational 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape la Reserve Secrete is a big, concentrated bruiser whose inky purple color is followed by tons of jammy blackberries, hints of cassis, spice and violets aromas and flavors. Its oak elevage has been completely absorbed by its wealth of fruit, and this full-bodied Chateauneuf du Pape has a stacked mid-palate, building tannin and a great finish. It's just now starting to be drinkable, yet it still needs short term cellaring and will drink well for two decades or more. Drink Date: 2018-2038. Score: 96 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

DOMAINE DE LA CHARBONNIÈRE LES HAUTES BRUSQUIÈRES CUVÉE SPÉCIALE CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2009
AC

579581 (D) 750mL $74.00

TASTING NOTE: The biggest, richest 2009 of the three is undoubtedly the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Hautes Brusquières Cuvee Spéciale. The first words I wrote in my notes were "Rock Star," and this awesome 2009 is overflowing with notions of black currants, licorice, roasted herbs and garrigue. Thick, rich, chewy and unctuous, it's similar to the Vieilles Vignes, yet has another level of fat and texture. Drink Date: 2013-2029. Score: 95 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

CHÂTEAU GRILLET 2014
AC

360693 (XD) 750mL $469.00

TASTING NOTE: The grand vin is the 2014 Chateau Grillet, and there are just over 150 cases of this elixir made. Possessing more depth and richness, with gorgeous minerality intermixed with notes of tangerines, white flowers, crushed rocks and white peach, this seamless, medium to full-bodied beauty shows the cooler, more elegant style of the vintage beautifully while still packing plenty of depth and richness. Drink it anytime over the coming decade. Drink Date: 2016-2026. Score: 95 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

RENÉ MURÉ CLOS SAINT LANDELIN RIESLING 2014
AC Alsace Grand Cru

75929 (XD) 750mL $56.00

TASTING NOTE: The purity of juicy, tart, red apples runs like a fault line through a very taut, linear, whistle-clean Riesling. This has purity and precision, linearity and drive. Still tightly wound, this needs time to unfold but promises to be a wine of great longevity and expression. Resolutely dry, the purity and concentration of flavors will always remain. Drink 2018-2030. Score: 95 (Anne Krebiehl, MW, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2016)

TRIMBACH CLOS SAINTE HUNE RIESLING 2011
AC Alsace

965079 (XD) 750mL $238.00

TASTING NOTE: The chalky, pithy expression of extract richness in Trimbach's 2011 Riesling Clos Ste-Hune is much more typical of its type not to mention more backward than the impression conveyed by this vintage's Frederic Emile. But I wouldn't have expected quite such a carved-in-stone character from this vintage, one in which Frederic Emile too, in its distinctive way - not to mention the majority of Trimbach wines - excels. Piquancy of legume sprouts and fruit pits mingles with smoky, chalky and alkaline notes on a firm, polished palate, leading to an impressively sustained though slightly severe finish. It will suffice, I suspect, to taste this the next time after it is released in several years, and I would expect it to impress through at least 2028. Drink Date: 2014-2028. Score: 93 (David Schildknecht, robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2014)

CHAMPAGNE BARONS DE ROTHSCHILD VINTAGE CHAMPAGNE 2008
AC

499863 (XD) 750mL $128.00

Champagne Barons de Rothschild is made up of the three French branches of the family who individually own a number of wine brands and Bordeaux-classed growth estates, including Mouton, Lafite and Clarke. The 2008 Champagne is an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and it received six years on the lees.

PHILIPPONNAT CLOS DES GOISSES BRUT CHAMPAGNE 2007
AC

540211 (XD) 750mL $344.00

TASTING NOTE: Extremely precise tensile acidity with gunflint, soy, vanilla, dry and lean citrus and pear fruit and just a faint note of eucalyptus leaf. The bead and texture is also fine and pure leading to a terrifically long finish. This will certainly age for 25 years plus and shouldn't really be broached for another five. Score: 95 (John Stimpfig, decanter.com, Oct. 14, 2016)

KRUG BRUT CHAMPAGNE 2004
AC

68395 (D) 750mL $410.00

From one of Champagne's most legendary producers, this newly released 2004 bubbly is yet to be reviewed. However, if the near-perfect scores of 19 and 19.5, respectively - which Jancis Robinson, MW, gave to the '03 and '02 vintages earlier this year in a blind tasting - are any indication, this too is poised to be a classic.

DOM PÉRIGNON P2 ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE 1996
AC

507897 (XD) 750mL $1,280.00

TASTING NOTE: This has plenty of dried roses, rose hip and other very gently seductive perfumes on offer here such as wild cherries, some pepper, plenty of spices and pink, musky marshmallows. The autolysis is still very discreet, although the fruits have changed to another phase of more savory characters and are really delicate. This is undoubtedly a restrained Champagne on a very slow path of evolution. The palate's smoothly layered with the phenolics shaping it in the first phase of the palate, casting a long tube-like form. The core is composed of dried strawberries, some spiced cherries, some dried peaches and pink grapefruit to boot. It then gives way to fresh acidity as it delivers a really thrilling and mouth-watering finish with some toasty hazelnuts and flamed orange zest to close. Superb focus, and the vintage character of the acidity and length is stunning. Beautifully preserved in the cellars for some twenty-odd years. What a treat! Drink now and for another decade or more. This will age on cork very nicely. Truly a superb expression of Dom Perignon Rosé. Score: 96 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Oct. 7, 2016)

MOUTARD BRUT CHAMPAGNE 1996
AC

513614 (XD) 750mL $105.00

TASTING NOTE: Firm and smoky, with a hint of oyster shell underscoring the flavors of roasted walnut, dried currant, fleur de sel, ground ginger and crystallized honey. Racy on the palate, delivering a zesty finish. Disgorged June 25, 2014. Drink now through 2020. Score: 93 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Dec. 15, 2014)

RUINART BLANC DE BLANCS BRUT CHAMPAGNE

ALPHONSE MELLOT BLANC LES HERSES SANCERRE 2014
AC

518290 (XD) 750mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Sancerre Les Herses is very clear, pure and mineral on the nose, displaying white fruit aromas, but in a very discreet way and combined with herbal aromas. On the palate, this 13% alcohol wine is very clear, straight, extremely pure and very salty on the palate; it is a grippy Sancerre with a very stimulating expression of pure terroir. Endlessly salty, but also floral in the aftertaste. Great with fish and seafood as well as cheese. The wine is sourced in a 1.6-hectare, southeast-facing plot with averaging 45-year-old vines on flinty clay soils. Drink Date: 2016-2024. BRUMONT CHÂTEAU MONTUS CUVÉE PRESTIGE MADIRAN 2009
AC

953646 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: There is great balance in this wine. It is poised between fresh black fruits and mature tannins, allying black-plum and damson fruitiness to the rich structure and dark texture. Still developing, as befits a 100% Tannat wine, it will really be ready to drink from 2018. Cellar Selection. Score: 94 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Nov. 2016)

CIGALUS 2014
IGP Aude Hauterive

997809 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: Brooding and muscular, this full-bodied red has dense layers of blackberry compote, spiced red plum and crushed raspberry meshed with licorice, cigar box and mineral details. Firm acidity provides a strong backbone, with supple tannins lining the finish. Drink now through 2025. Score: 92 (Gillian Sciaretta, winespectator.com, Nov. 15, 2016)

HEYMANN-LÖWENSTEIN UHLEN LAUBACH GROSSES GEWÄCHS RIESLING 2015
VDP Grosse Lage

523118 (D) 750mL $72.00

TASTING NOTE: The H-L the Uhlen "Rothlay" is the official star in the H-L range, but won't be released until 2017, but this is already a mind-blowing wine. The great depth of super-ripe yellow fruit aromas and stunning textural richness that make this is an arresting wine. In spite of the scale and depth, this has great finesse at the very long finish. Score: 96 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Sept. 9, 2016)

TERREDORA PAGO DEI FUSI TAURASI 2006
DOCG

235374 (XD) 750mL $96.00

TASTING NOTE: Terredora's 2006 Taurasi Pago dei Fusi is striking. It boasts gorgeous inner perfume, layers of black fruit and tons of pure structure. Licorice, tobacco, incense, scorched earth and a host of dark aromas and flavors add quite a bit of complexity and nuance in this bold, full-throttle wine. Despite its full-bodied personality, there is an understated power to the Pago dei Fusi that is remarkable. Once again, one of the most distinctive wines being made in Campania today, the 2006 remains totally fascinating and compelling as it sits in the glass, with striking perfume and fabulous overall balance. Drinking window: 2013-2022. Score: 94 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Feb. 2013)

GIOVANNI ROSSO SERRALUNGA D'ALBA BAROLO 2012

454884 (XD) 750mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: An enticing mix of white pepper, strawberry, raspberry and floral aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this racy red. Intense and focused, picking up a steely, minerally element on the long finish. Best from 2019 through 2025. 120 cases imported. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Dec. 31, 2016)

RAVERA BAROLO 2012
DOCG

216341 (XD) 750mL $72.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Barolo Ravera is another gorgeous wine from Cogno. An exotic melange of orange peel, cinnamon, spices, licorice and dried rose petal lifts from the glass as this sublime, nuanced Barolo gradually opens up. Deceptively medium in body, the 2012 Ravera captures the pedigree of this great Barolo site. The Ravera emerges from 70 year-old vines, 60% Lampia and 40% Michet in terms of clonal composition. With time, the Ravera gains weight, power and intensity, all with streaks of supporting tannin that give the wine its sense of proportion. Drinking window: 2022-2043. NADA GIUSEPPE CASOT RISERVA BARBARESCO 2011

TASTING NOTE: Iris, violet, steeped cherry, camphor and underbrush aromas come together in the glass. The chewy, succulent palate offers red cherry, raspberry, aromatic herb and star anise while firm but refined tannins provide backbone and a velvety mouthfeel. It boasts balance, freshness and body. Drink 2018 through 2025. Editors' Choice. Score: 94 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 2016)

GIACOMO BORGOGNO & FIGLI RISERVA BAROLO 2006
DOCG

718361 (XD) 750mL $110.00

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of sausages, ripe fruit and flowers turn to mushrooms and truffles. Full body, with velvety tannins and a decadent finish. A wine that changes continually in the glass. This is delicious and exciting now. Late release of this wine. Why wait to open and drink this? Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, July 7, 2013)

MONTEVERTINE LE PERGOLE TORTE 2014
IGT Toscana

316604 (XD) 750mL $166.00

TASTING NOTE: Planted in 1968, we are now coming up on the 50th birthday of the oldest vines that produce this venerated wine. The vineyard is located on the top of a perfectly round hill and with various replanting efforts over the years, the average age of the vines is 30 years old. This means they are in their prime. The 2014 Le Pergole Torte is a first selection of the property's best clusters and of course fruit selection was extremely stringent in this challenging vintage. In fact, 26,000 bottles were produced. This may not be the best vintage of Le Pergole Torte ever made, however it remains a wine of impressive ambition and personality. You only really test the ability of a winemaker in the off-vintages. This is an elegantly etched red wine that opens to a dark ruby color and intense aromas of bright cherry, violets and balsam herb. At this young age, the wine has a very distinctively perfumed quality that resembles spring flowers or tropical fruit. I feel certain that these aromas will fade as the wine takes on more volume and aging evolution. Give it a few more years of cellar aging. Drink Date: 2019-2030. Score: 92-94 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, April 28, 2017)

TENUTA DI TRINORO LE CUPOLE 2014
IGT Rosso Toscana

525683 (XD) 750mL $55.00

TASTING NOTE: Alluring scents of ripe cherry, mulberry and fresh herbs complement concentrated flavors of cherry and sweet spice in this red. Offers a backbone of mouthcoating tannins and remains integrated as the finish lingers. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2018 through 2027. 4,600 cases made. Top 100: 2016, Rank: 29. Smart Buys. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2016)

CASTELLO DI AMA L'APPARITA 2013
IGT Toscana

39776 (XD) 750mL $244.00

TASTING NOTE: The highlight in this range, the 2013 L'Apparita is a real stunner. Deep, explosive and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2013 possesses stunning nuance. This is an especially restrained Apparita built more on finesse than power. The translucence and total sense of elegance here are both truly remarkable. In short, this is a memorable edition for one of Tuscany's very finest wines. Layers of rich, dark fruit, spice, leather and smoke infuse the creamy, voluptuous finish. The oak needs to settle down. Drinking window: 2020-2033. Score: 98 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, July 2016)

LE MACCHIOLE PALEO 2013
IGT Toscana

945667 (XD) 750mL $120.00

TASTING NOTE: Paleo is a pure expression of Cabernet Franc first made in 2001. The 2013 Paleo shows a soft and feminine side with rose petal, lavender, wet earth, rosemary and dark fruit. These are beautiful but unexpected qualities. The wine is ever so reflective of the grape variety, but it also does a great job of incorporating Tuscan ideals, with sunshine, grace and generosity among them. As you dig deeper, Paleo reveals more surprising layers. The finish is soft and slightly sweet. Paleo reveals something new each time you go back to the glass to take a new sip. This wine promises a long aging future. Drink Date: 2017-2037. Score: 97 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

PETRA 2013
IGT Toscana

524918 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: This is harmonious and supple in texture, setting the backdrop for black currant, coffee, cedar, tobacco and stony flavors. Almost seamless, with refined tannins and a youthful character. The long aftertaste echoes fruit, herbal and mineral elements. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2028. 1,400 cases made. LA RASINA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012

ANTINORI PIAN DELLE VIGNE VIGNAFERROVIA RISERVA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

206227 (XD) 750mL $149.00

TASTING NOTE: Here's a wine that opens to a beautifully dark and bold appearance. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Pian delle Vigne Vignaferrovia sees fruit sourced from a slightly higher altitude compared to the Brunello annata. As a result, you get more definition and sharpness here. This Brunello shows a great level of depth and structure with soft lines, a rich texture and general opulence. The wine is aged in small barrel and sees a second phase of aging in larger oak casks. Drink Date: 2017-2030. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

FULIGNI RISERVA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

294090 (XD) 750mL $248.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a wine that shows immense harmony and inner poise. The powerful vintage is elegantly tempered in this expression thanks to the flowing and musical nature of the aromatic presentation. The bouquet opens to a steady pace with small berry nuances followed by spice, tobacco, pressed rose and moist earth. Dig deep and there is a bit of white truffle in there as well. The wine boasts a silky texture with a lean, tonic feel that excels in terms of length and persistence. It never feels too heavy or flat. In fact, the wine is brimming with inner energy and vitality. Drink Date: 2017-2030. Score: 96 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

MASI RISERVA DI COSTASERA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2012
DOCG

348037 (XD) 1500mL $150.00

The sunset-facing Costasera slopes are the best ones in Valpolicella Classica for producing premium Amarone. Here, where the day is longer, the vines, which overlook Lake Garda, benefit from the reflection of its light and its milder climate. This wine comes from Masi, the masters of Amarone, in magnum format.

ZENATO SERGIO ZENATO RISERVA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2010
DOCG

132316 (D) 750mL $110.00

TASTING NOTE: Wonderful aromas of dried flowers such as roses combine with dark and dried fruits. Extremely aromatic. Full body, round and velvety tannins and an intense and juicy finish. SPERI VIGNETO MONTE SANT'URBANO AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 1997
DOCG

205351 (XD) 750mL $260.00

TASTING NOTE: This is A-1 Amarone. It has a classy, traditional prune and chocolate nose, which comes in front of a perfectly pure palate of dried cherry, plum and dark chocolate. The finish answers the challenge, delivering black tea and tannins, but in layer upon airy layer. Score: 91 (Wine Enthusiast, May 2003)

QUINTA DO ZAMBUJEIRO TERRA DO ZAMBUJEIRO 2013
DOC Alentejo

522516 (XD) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Terra do Zambujeiro is a blend of 34% Alicante Bouschet, 28% Aragonez, 15% Touriga Nacional, 14% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for two years in French oak (40% new). It comes in at 15% alcohol. This is a slightly decadent Terra at first, smooth and rich, packed with flavor and finishing with some power, enough to support the fruit and cut the sweet edge. The oak is a bit too obvious just now, but that will continue to improve gradually. It mostly disappeared after I played with the wine for a few hours. If this starts slowly, it finishes big, filling the mouth and expanding in the glass. Then, it tightens. As the oak receded, the wine also showed a bit more nuance, a touch of beef and some blue fruit. Even if it initially seems that this sexy wine is about the fruit, don't be fooled--the structure is very impressive and that becomes clearer with aeration. In a few hours, it became quite powerful and surprisingly transparent. It closed down a bit. It does have a bit of a hard edge in its youth, but after extended aeration it held together in terms of both alcohol and tannins. This would benefit from another couple of years in the cellar, but it should be roughly approachable when it is released even so, if you must, and if you give it some air. Drink Date: 2018-2031. Score: 93 (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

DUORUM OLD VINES RESERVA 2012
DOC Douro

372235 (XD) 750mL $63.00

TASTING NOTE: The old vine vineyard gives all the structure and concentration to this rich wine. It is dense, tightly structured with mineral and fruit tannins. There is a ripe juicy background of plum jelly and acidity. It is a wine that is still developing, so wait until 2017. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 2016)

BACHELDER WISMER-PARKE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2014
VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment

520379 (XD) 750mL $44.95

TASTING NOTE: A pale and delicate pinot in the Bachelder style, focused more on dusty dried red fruit and pot pourri than sheer weight or density. This is toute en finesse as I'm sure the winemaker intended, fine and firm, succulent and savoury, with excellent length. Old wood plays its gently oxidative tune without contributing significant flavour. Drink now or hold into the early '20s. Score: 91 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, March 13, 2017)

STRATUS CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake

312108 (XD) 750mL $42.20

TASTING NOTE: The Stratus 2012 once again belies the perception, still held by some, that big reds can't be made in Niagara's cool climate. The Niagara-on-the-Lake sub appellation, on the border of the Four Mile Creek, the region's warmest, is the origin of this bold and muscular cabernet, dense, very ripe yet still sinewy and firm, anything but jammy and soft, certainly not green. Tannins are abundant and chewy, but balanced by masses of dark fruit, ensuring that textural harmony will eventually be reached, likely in another 2-3 years or so, the minimum needed to soften these edges. Though this wine can be cellared until the late '20s I suspect without concern. An impressive effort. Score: 92 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, Oct. 27, 2016)

13TH STREET ESSENCE PINOT NOIR 2011
VQA Niagara Peninsula

237222 (XD) 750mL $44.95

TASTING NOTE: Essence wines, this is where you find the personality of Colas, this is his playground, a place where he can make the wines that best express the best of the vintage, his take on the vintage. The Pinot shows black cherry, meaty-loamy notes, truffles and swirling spices on the nose. It is built with structure, designed to age, with ripe, assertive tannins, savoury cherry flavours, currants, earthy and spicy but doesn't seem over the top on the palate. My temptation would be to lay this down for a while to bring it all into harmony. Score: 92 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, Nov. 27, 2014)

BACHELDER WISMER VINEYARD CHARDONNAY 2012
VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment

345819 (XD) 750mL $44.95

TASTING NOTE: Hailing from a warmer vintage, this is one large, rich and fleshy chardonnay. But despite the girth and depth it still pulls some fine acidity and minerality out of its hat as the wine wanes on the finish. Expect very lifted peat smoke from the barrels, with ripe almost custardy peach/pear fruit and almond on the nose. Some sense of herbality there as well. It rolls across the palate then battens down on the finish, hitting excellent to outstanding length. Score: 92 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Jan. 25, 2015)

PEPPER TREE COQUUN SINGLE VINEYARD SHIRAZ 2014
Hunter Valley, New South Wales

483461 (XD) 750mL $66.00

TASTING NOTE: Grown on the Tallawanta vineyard, planted in 1920. It's a wine of balance, power and length, the pirouette of savoury-spicy-cherried flavours anchored by fine-set tannin and ripe cherry-leather fruit. Exquisite integration of oak. Elegance and the haunt thereafter. Drink By: 2035. Score: 95 (Campbell Mattinson, winecompanion.com.au, Oct. 6, 2016)

LEEUWIN ART SERIES SHIRAZ 2013
Margaret River, Western Australia

4929 (XD) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: 75% machine-harvested, 25% hand-picked, destemmed and whole bunch-fermented respectively with cultured yeast, matured for 18 months in French oak (53% new). Leeuwin took time to come to terms with its Shirazs, but is now master of its destiny. It has black cherry and plum flavours in superabundance, plus finely tuned tannins, its modest alcohol is the key. Special Value. Drink By: 2038. JIM BARRY THE ARMAGH SHIRAZ 2012
Clare Valley, South Australia

424077 (XD) 750mL $435.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Shiraz The Armagh offers a gorgeous perfume of baking spices, violets, Sichuan pepper and fragrant earth. More earthy and savory in the mouth than on the nose, the palate is superbly structured and taut?built for the long-haul?with a long, complex finish. Still very youthfully, forget this wine for 3-5 more years and consider drinking it over the next 20+. Drink Date: 2018-2038. Score: 98+ (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

CLARENDON HILLS LIANDRA SYRAH 2010
McLaren Vale, South Australia

702332 (XD) 750mL $97.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Liandra Vineyard Syrah reveals expressive aromas of mulberries, black cherries and wild blueberries with hints of soy, yeast extract and baking spices plus a whiff of rose petals. Full-bodied and showing great poise and intensity in the mouth, it has a wonderful core of red berry and spice flavors framed by medium to firm levels of rounded tannins and lifted acidity through a long finish. Approachable now, it should drink to 2024+. Drink Date: 2013 - 2024. Score: 95+ (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

LEEUWIN ART SERIES CHARDONNAY 2013

TASTING NOTE: 55% machine-picked at night, 45% hand-picked, 64% cultured yeast, 36% wild yeast, fermented in and matured for 11 months in new French oak. It is supremely elegant and finely balanced, and has absorbed the new oak in a manner worthy of a Grand Cru White Burgundy, leaving the fragrant bouquet and finely structured palate of startling length to occupy centre stage. Special Value. Drink By: 2033. Score: 98 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Nov. 3, 2016)

ALTOS LAS HORMIGAS RESERVE MALBEC 2014
Uco Valley, Mendoza

678987 (XD) 750mL $39.00

TASTING NOTE: There is quite a jump in price for the 2014 Malbec Reserve. Here the grapes are grown on chalky soils with round stones in Altamira, Gualtallary and a touch of Vista Flores (that they are not using anymore) that fermented with indigenous yeasts and without any acid correction. The wine was aged in untoasted 3,500-liter oak foudres for 16 months. There is also a jump in quality, a serious wine where the minerality and freshness rule. This wine will please more advanced drinkers, with its subtle minerality, its balance and tasty, almost salty finish. This is a sleek, fine and elegant representation of the limestone soils of the Valle de Uco. Drink Date: 2016-2020. Score: 93 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

ACHAVAL FERRER QUIMERA 2013
AC

24752 (XD) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: Sourced from a diversity of places in the province of Mendoza, the 2013 Quimera is a blend of different red grapes, a mixture that is more or less constant across vintages, 50% Malbec, 24% Cabernet Franc, 18% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine matures in brand new French oak barrels, but in 2013 the change is about the size of the barrels that was the result of an internal investigation they have been conducting in the winery. In 2011 they started experimenting with different sizes but from the same cooper. They bought larger and smaller barrels and they were surprised that smaller barrels gave more expressive fruit, so they started using 160-liter oak barrels. I had never heard this before, and in fact Santiago Achaval tells me this has not worked with his wines from California, but in Achaval-Ferrer half of the barrels are now 160-liter! The barrels work well up to three uses, and he thinks it's because the juicy wines from Mendoza have a stronger demand for aeration and the wine benefits from a higher ratio of wood-to-wine because of how much oxygen the wine demands. The nose has no trace of wood, and it's eminently floral. The palate has electric acidity, acid strawberries, it makes you salivate, makes you long for the next sip. Simply delicious. The best Quimera I've tasted. The wine will not be released until March 2016. 60,000 bottles were produced. Bottled in September 2014. Drink Date: 2016-2023 Score: 93 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2015)

BACIO DIVINO PROPRIETARY RED 2014
Napa Valley

979047 (XD) 750mL $169.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Bacio Divino Proprietary Red is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Sangiovese sourced from all of the vineyards mentioned for his other wines, plus the Georges III Vineyard in Rutherford. This is a beautiful wine with plenty of blackberry and blueberry fruit, a hint of incense and charcoal, a dense full-bodied mouthfeel, outstanding purity, texture and length. This wine can be drunk now or cellared for another 25+ years. Drink Date: 2016-2041. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

DUMOL CONNOR PINOT NOIR 2014
Sonoma Coast

523787 (XD) 750mL $163.00

TASTING NOTE: Pale ruby-purple in color, the 2014 Pinot Noir Connor opens with alluring potpourri, garrigue and underbrush notes over a core of pomegranate and red currants. Elegantly fruited and medium-bodied, the perfumed red fruit flavors define the palate, supported by harmonious, silky tannins and refreshing acid, finishing softly spoken yet with great resonance. Drink Date: 2017-2025. Score: 95 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

DUMOL RYAN WIDDOES VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2014
Russian River Valley, Sonoma County

523761 (XD) 750mL $163.00

TASTING NOTE: Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir Ryan Widdoes Vineyard has a rather subdued, earthy nose of fungi and fallen leaves over red and black cherries and a waft of lavender. The medium to full-bodied palate is built like a brick house with a solid frame of grainy tannins and lively acid holding the muscular fruit together beautifully, and texturing the long, earthy finish. It needs another 1-2 years in bottle and should cellar for 12+ years thereafter. Drink Date: 2018-2030. Score: 95 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

ARAÚJO ALTAGRACIA RED 2013
Napa Valley

390823 (XD) 750mL $201.00

TASTING NOTE: As for the 2013 Proprietary Red Altagracia, the blend is slightly different, at 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec. One of the finest Altagracias I've tasted to date, the color is saturated ruby/purple, much darker than the 2012 and the wine slightly less fragrant and more coiled tight. Yet, it is also more concentrated and promising. The wine is a heck of a second wine, but does require some patience. For now, deep, rich blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with floral notes (white flowers?), medium to full body and sweet tannin are all present in this relatively larger-scaled Altagracia than we've seen in the past (14.8% alcohol). The finish is long, still youthful and certainly approachable, but this wine will be better with 2-4 years bottle age and should keep for at least two decades. Drink Date: 2016-2036. Score: 93 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

BERINGER PRIVATE RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

552851 (XD) 750mL $203.00

TASTING NOTE: One of the great efforts of recent years, and not surprisingly so, is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve, a blend of 81% from Howell Mountain, 11% from St. Helena and the rest Calistoga and Mount Veeder. It is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot aged 20 months in 84% new French oak. At 15.2% natural alcohol, this is a big boy, but also classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon with crème de cassis, graphite, licorice, and a touch of spicy oak. Winemaker Laurie Hook, who has since departed as winemaker, really hit a home run with this beauty. The wine could benefit from 7-10 years cellaring and probably last 30 to 40. When all is said and done, this is an instant classic, the wine full-bodied with oodles of crème de cassis, pen ink, graphite and baking spices. It is multi-dimensional, layered, and one of the all-time great Beringer Private Reserves - and there have been many. Drink Date: 2023-2066. Score: 97 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

CARDINALE RED 2013
Napa Valley

390310 (XD) 750mL $485.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is simply stunning. A real head-turner, the 2013 possesses superb density and tons of pure power. The flavors are deep, powerful and explosive. Mocha, new leather, and licorice wrap around a core of dark, sumptuous fruit. This dense, powerful Cabernet Sauvignon will require considerable patience, but it is super-impressive. And then some. Chris Carpenter crafted the 2013 from an assortment of parcels, most of them mountain sites on Diamond Mountain, Mt. Veeder and Howell Mountain. This is a real stand out. Drinking window: 2019-2033. Score: 97 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

DONELAN SONOMA COUNTY CUVÉE MORIAH 2013
Sonoma County

523753 (XD) 750mL $102.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cuvée Moriah is deep, intense and beautifully layered throughout. The aromatics alone are captivating. Dried rose petal, punchy red berries, exotic spices, menthol and star anise give the Moriah much of its aromatic intrigue. Light on its feet yet deeply expressive, the 2013 is another knock-out from Donelan. This is a distinctly Pinot-leaning Rhône blend with tons of personality. Drinking window: 2018-2025. Score: 94 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Feb. 2016)

JANZEN BECKSTOFFER TO KALON VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

55715 (XD) 750mL $291.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Janzen Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon easily lives up to the first-growth reputation of this great terroir in Oakville. Produced from clone 337, this is truly profound stuff. It has an inky purple color with notes of charcoal embers interwoven with blueberry and blackberry liqueur, forest floor and white flowers. This wine was aged 27 months in 100% new Taransaud cooperage and has fabulous texture, richness and well-integrated oak tannin, alcohol and acidity. Drink it now as well as over the next 30+ years. Drink Date: 2016-2046. Score: 96 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

VÉRITÉ LA JOIE 2013
Sonoma County

523464 (XD) 750mL $667.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 La Joie, which is 46% from Knights Valley, 32% from Chalk Hill and 22% from Alexander Valley, is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Showing loads of graphite, cedar wood, charcoal, crème de cassis and forest floor, this may well turn out to be a 50+-year wine. It tastes like a great first-growth Pauillac and has an amazing amount of complexity and richness. Drink Date: 2015-2065. Score: 100 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2015)

VÉRITÉ LA MUSE 2013
Sonoma County

180992 (XD) 750mL $667.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 La Muse, like all of the 2013s, comes about one-third from Alexander Valley vineyards, 40-plus percent from Chalk Hill, and the rest Knights Valley and Bennett Valley - all high-elevation hillside vineyards. A blend of 89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec at 14.3% alcohol, the wine is amazingly like a great vintage of Petrus, with mulberry, black cherry, licorice, truffle and unctuous, thick, juicy fruit all present in this full-bodied masterpiece. The tannins are still present. The wine has purity and savory presence and is remarkable. The finish goes on for well past a minute. This wine would probably benefit from 5-8 years of bottle age and last 40-50 years. Drink Date: 2020-2070. Score: 100 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2015)

VÉRITÉ LE DÉSIR 2013
Sonoma County

523506 (XD) 750mL $667.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Le Desir represents 2,500 cases. This is the softest of the three wines in 2013, and this blend of 61% Cabernet Franc, 23% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec emerges with more than half of the cuvée coming from Hillsides in Alexander Valley, 37% from Chalk Hill and the rest tiny dollops from Bennett Valley and Knights Valley. Opaque purple, like its siblings, the wine is showing incredible floral, blueberry and espresso notes, exotic Asian spices, velvety texture, a supple, multilayered mouthfeel and incredible finish, with incense and licorice. This is magnificent young wine, with a good 40-50 years of upside potential. Pierre Seillan is justifiably proud of what he has achieved, and his first vintage of Vérité was only 1998, but they go from strength to strength. Drink Date: 2015-2065. Score: 99 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2015)

WENZLAU ESTATE PINOT NOIR 2012
Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County

518738 (XD) 750mL $86.00

TASTING NOTE: I liked the 2012 Pinot Noir a touch more on release, yet it's still a beautiful, outstanding wine. Its medium ruby color is followed by classy notes of mulling spices, dried underbrush and forest floor, and it has beautiful complexity, opening up dramatically with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, elegant and pretty, I'd drink bottles over the coming 2-3 years, although it will evolve for longer. Drink Date: 2016-2019. Score: 91 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

AUBERT LARRY HYDE & SONS CHARDONNAY 2015
Carneros

390831 (XD) 750mL $205.00

TASTING NOTE: His 2015 Chardonnay Larry Hyde & Sons, like many of the 2015s and a consistent characteristic of most of Aubert's wines, comes from mostly old Wente clones as well, and has a bright gold/greenish hue to its color as well as a big, sweet kiss of caramelized citrus, apple blossom, white peach and a touch of pineapple. It is a beautiful wine, with a full-bodied mouthfeel and a long, zesty finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2026. Score: 95-97 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

ADELSHEIM ELIZABETH'S RESERVE PINOT NOIR 2013
Willamette Valley

959312 (XD) 750mL $98.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Pinot Noir Elizabeth's Reserve underwent a four to six day skin maceration and was matured for ten months in 31% new French oak. It offers raspberry and pomegranate scents on the nose, before changing tack towards hints of iodine and even boot polish. The palate is lithe and fresh in the mouth - succulent tannin and bright red cherry and strawberry fruit to the fore. Harmonious with good length, this is one of the best releases from Adelsheim this year. Drink Date: 2016-2023. Score: 91 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, April 27, 2016)

CHÂTEAU DE MALLE 1997

TAYLOR FLADGATE VARGELLAS VINHA VELHA VINTAGE PORT 1997

515577 (S) 750mL $434.00

TASTING NOTE: This is rather exotic, with warm toffee, toasted hazelnut and walnut husk notes imparting an almost tawny edge, but the terrific core of steeped fig, warm fruitcake and licorice root pulls this squarely back into the Vintage Port camp. Offers a terrific brambly underpinning, with a gorgeous toffee echo. Is there a better combination than finesse and power? 1997 Vintage Port retrospective (January 2017). Best from 2020 through 2040. ALVEAR SOLERA 1927 PEDRO XIMÉNEZ
DO Montilla-Moriles, Spain

463034 (S) 375mL $20.00

TASTING NOTE: The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer. Drink Date: 2016-2050. Score: 98 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Nov. 29, 2015)
