THE CLASSICS COLLECTION

DECEMBER 2017

31 VINTAGES

DOMAINE VINCENT

GIRARDIN QUINTESSENCE

DE CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE

GRAND CRU 2014

AC

TASTING NOTE: In contrast to the

regular cuvée of CC this is really quite

aromatically pretty with a discreet dollop

of wood setting off the bright and cool

aromas of white flower, green apple

and a wide array of citrus and wet stone

nuances. There is more volume, power

and density to the wonderfully textured

big-bodied flavors that stain the palate

with sappy dry extract that also buffers

the hugely long finish that exhibits

markedly better depth. This well-balanced

effort should age effortlessly well and

be the better for it. Drink: 2024+.

Score:

92-94

CHANSON MEURSAULT 2013

AC

(Chanson Père & Fils)

TASTING NOTE: Still a bit raw, with an

expressive nose and somewhat shrill

acidity, featuring apple, lemon and stone

flavors framed by a chalky feel. Should

come together with time. Fine length.

Best from 2018 through 2026. Score:

90

VINCENT GIRARDIN LES CHAUMÉES

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET

ER

CRU 2013

AC

TASTING NOTE: A completely different

and slightly riper nose offers up notes

of petrol, resin and both white and yellow

orchard fruit. There is fine volume to

the generously proportioned but also

well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that

possess solid mid-palate concentration

before terminating in a saline-inflected

finale. Drink: 2019+. Score:

89-91

CHABLIS

WHITE WINE

DOMAINE CHRISTIAN MOREAU

PÈRE & FILS LES CLOS CHABLIS

GRAND CRU 2015

AC

TASTING NOTE: A reserved and ripe nose

features white orchard fruit and floral

notes set off by deft touches of wood and

citrus peel. There is excellent richness

to the overtly powerful and concentrated

medium plus weight flavors that possess

ample amounts of dry extract that confer

a textured feel to the impressively intense

and mouth coating finish. This is a very

good 2015 that should repay mid-term

cellaring. Drink: 2020+. Score:

90-93

DOMAINE WILLIAM

FÈVRE LES PREUSES CHABLIS

GRAND CRU 2015

AC

TASTING NOTE: Bright, light yellow.

Discreet aromas of white peach,

flowers and spices. At once elegant and

penetrating; not a fleshy grand cru but

very youthful and tightly wound in the

early going, with a refined texture to its

peach, white pepper and spice flavors.

Much less expressive today than the

Valmur, even a bit dry on the back end,

this classy, understated wine will

need time in bottle to express itself.

92-94
