HENRIOT CHAMPAGNE BRUT MILLÉSIMÉ 2000
With gift box, AC

516591 (XD) 1500mL $270.00

There are many ways to qualify success, but in the world of wine one of the most telling is longevity. This can refer to the ability of a particular wine to age and evolve, delivering pleasure, over decades, but it can also be applied to ownership. Champagne Henriot has been family-owned and -operated since it was founded in 1808. This remarkable accomplishment is even more impressive when you consider how many family operations in Champagne have been absorbed into larger interests over the years. To craft this 2000 Brut Millésimé, fruit from more than 15 cru sites was blended. The blend was 55% Chardonnay, sourced primarily from the Côtes des Blancs, and 45% Pinot Noir, mostly harvested in the Montagne de Reims area.

DOMAINE DES SABINES 2014
AC Lalande de Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

523308 (XD) 750mL $56.00

TASTING NOTE: The Domaine de Sabines 2014, from the hand of Jean-Luc Thunévin, has a captivating nose: very well defined and tensile with animated black cherries and raspberry fruit that is beautifully interwoven with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, a keen line of acidity and a concentrated but very balanced, pure bouquet that is silky smooth and persistent. This might not be one of Jean-Luc's most famous crus but it is well worth your attention, a modern Right Bank wine that is deftly executed. Drink Date: 2018-2032. Score: 91-93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, April 29, 2015)

CHÂTEAU CANTEMERLE 2010
5e cru, AC Haut-Médoc

920561 (XD) 750mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: The wine needs a good 7-10 years of cellaring and should keep for 30 more years, but this is the finest Cantemerle I have encountered in my professional career of tasting young vintages (dating back 34 years now). Stunningly deep ruby/purple, with a beautiful nose of spring flowers intermixed with perfumed raspberry and blueberry notes, it exhibits a sort of cool-climate character. Broad, rich and intense on the palate, the wine has plenty of tannins, but they are sweet and well-integrated. Everything is delicately entwined into this beautiful, medium to full-bodied, dense purple wine, which shows stunning character and a prodigious potential for development. This is definitely a major sleeper of the vintage and even better than I thought from barrel. Drink Date: 2020-2050. Score: 94+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

CHÂTEAU CLARKE 2010
AC Listrac-Médoc

510529 (XD) 1500mL $115.00

TASTING NOTE: Extreme nose of crushed raspberries and minerals. Full body, with very integrated tannins and a fresh clean finish. Lasts for minutes. Very well done. Better in 2016. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 16, 2013)

CHÂTEAU LA LAGUNE 2010
3e cru, AC Haut-Médoc

200667 (XD) 750mL $130.00

TASTING NOTE: Another great success from proprietress Caroline Frey, the 2010 La Lagune provides an essential drinking experience, with notes of Asian plum sauce, mulberries, kirsch liqueur and black currants. The wine also exhibits a savory, rich smokiness and subtle lead pencil shaving notes. Full-bodied and pure, combining both elegance and power, this is a brilliant, very approachable effort that should hit its stride in 5-7 years and last for at least two decades. Think of it as a hypothetical blend of the 2005 and 2009. Kudos! Score: 94 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

CHÂTEAU BRANAIRE-DUCRU 2009
4e Cru, AC Saint-Julien

516658 (XD) 750mL $188.00

TASTING NOTE: Haut couture becomes a wine! This dense purple wine has the tell-tale notes of flowers and pencil shavings, and its broad aromatics are intense and totally captivating. Powerful, rich, and full, but less tannic than the 2005 and more opulent, this is a dazzling Branaire to drink between 2017-2035. Score: 96 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 22, 2011)

DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER 2008
AC Pessac-Léognan

135061 (XD) 750mL $143.00

Robert Parker Jr. awarded this wine a rating of 93 points (robertparker.com, May 1, 2011), calling it "One of the fabulous sleepers of the vintage and a wine for serious Bordeaux afficionados to consider..." and suggesting a drinking window extending to at least 2034.

TASTING NOTE: Dense, powerful wine that impresses both with its rich fruit and its balanced tannins. The whole wine is finely integrated, black berry flavors shot through with acidity and touches of wood. Certainly a wine for aging. Cellar Selection. Score: 94 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2011)

CLOS DU MARQUIS 2003
AC Saint-Julien

658278 (XD) 750mL $160.00

CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 2001
1er cru, AC Margaux, Bordeaux, France

379479 (XD) 750mL $1,230.00

Neal Martin awarded this wine a rating of 94 points, saying, "The 2001 Chateau Margaux continues to evolve in impressive fashion ... with disarming purity ... it fans out with such confidence and ... the finish assures that this has a prosperous future." Martin suggested a drinking window of 2018-2045. (robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

TASTING NOTE: "For me, this vintage is what makes Margaux special," says Margaux winemaker Paul Pontallier. He is right: With its denseness, spice, flavors of black currants layered with dryness and fresh acidity, this is a huge and impressive wine that never forgets that it is Margaux. It is still young, and the dry tannic aftertaste, which lasts for many minutes, shows this. Score: 97 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2005)

CHÂTEAU LA TOUR DU PIN FIGEAC 2000
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

524637 (XD) 750mL $77.00

The 2000 vintage was a stellar way for Bordeaux to kick off the new millennium. The vintage produced impressive wines from both banks, and was defined by ripeness, concentration, balance and a round, almost silky texture. Most significantly, this quality was reflected throughout the region and across all price points, and the best wines had more than enough structure to continue to evolve for decades. This example is from the family-owned La Tour du Pin Figeac, and the grapes were harvested from vines of more than 40 years of age. A great opportunity to taste mature Bordeaux from a landmark vintage.

CHÂTEAU LES JUSTICES 2014
AC Sauternes

524470 (S) 375mL $30.00

TASTING NOTE: The Château Les Justices 2014 has the same level of residual sugar as the Château Latrezotte '14 (112 grams per liter) but I feel this is a superior wine, perhaps the best that I have tasted at this early stage. It is a blend of 90% Sémillon with 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle and is bestowed with a clean and pure bouquet, quite refined and elegant with honey and dried pineapple scents. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, a slightly waxiness to the texture here but nicely controlled and then vivacious towards the finish. There is a nascent energy to this Sauternes, a great wine from Julie Gonet and her team. Drink Date: 2018-2035. Score: 91-93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, April 29, 2015)

BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS SANTENAY 2015
AC

684647 (XD) 750mL $35.00

Dating to 1731, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest properties in Burgundy. The wines of Santenay are typically earthy and quite full-bodied. This one is from a vintage in which the Pinot across Burgundy is displaying a notably rich and powerful character. In their evaluation of the vintage, Decanter called the 2015 reds "... wines for the long haul, with serious reserves of ripe tannins hidden behind their generous fruit: they will deserve patience ..." (decanter.com, Jan. 27, 2017)

DOMAINE FRANÇOIS LUMPP GIVRY LA BRÛLÉES 1ER CRU 2015
AC

485011 (XD) 750mL $58.00

TASTING NOTE: A notably ripe yet slightly more elegant nose displays essence of black cherry, cassis and spice aromas that are trimmed in just enough oak to mention. There is excellent richness to the dense and relatively powerful but elegant medium-bodied flavors that also possess a lush and lingering finish. Drink: 2019+. Score: 88-91 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 8, 2016)

VINCENT GIRARDIN VIEILLES VIGNES SANTENAY 2015
AC

435552 (XD) 750mL $44.00

Sourced from vines more than 45 years old, grown in clay and limestone, the grapes for this wine are hand-harvested and sorted twice to ensure that no damaged fruit is taken. Vincent Girardin, a native of Burgundy, began producing wine in Santenay over 35 years ago. He favours a truly minimal-intervention approach to winemaking, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtering. Expect a structured and complex wine with dark cherry, mineral and light smoke notes.

AURÉLIEN VERDET NUITS ST. GEORGES AUX BOUDOTS 1ER CRU 2014
AC

442871 (XD) 750mL $136.00

TASTING NOTE: This is fluid, with black cherry and violet flavors shaded by spice and mineral details. Shows depth and structure, though this firms up on the finish. Dusty tannins coat the gums. Best from 2022 through 2040. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, May 31, 2017)

CHANSON GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2014
AC

525782 (XD) 750mL $73.00

LOUIS JADOT CÉLÉBRATION BEAUNE 1ER CRU 2012
AC

528539 (XD) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: A subtle touch of wood sets off ripe and relatively elegant notes of earth, dark cherry and spice. The mid-palate is dense, serious and powerful with plenty of mouth coating sap that helps to buffer the very firm tannic spine on the moderately austere, backward and built-to-age finale. While this is presently backward it should be approachable after 6 to 8 years of bottle age though note that it should live for a very long time. For readers having a child or grandchild in 2012 this would be a good choice to buy in quantity at a price that won't break the bank. Drink: 2024+. Outstanding. DOMAINE FAIVELEY CLOS DES CORTONS FAIVELEY CORTON GRAND CRU 2011
AC

722249 (XD) 750mL $220.00

TASTING NOTE: Medium red. Ineffable nose and palate offer red fruits, minerals, spices and flowers, complicated by game, earth and leather. Sweet, concentrated and very intense, boasting outstanding density and a fine-grained texture, with salty minerality giving the wine a weightless impression that's remarkable considering its density. A strong tannic spine and brisk acidity energize and draw out the finish of this sharply delineated, pristine grand cru. Score: 94 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, March 2014)

LOUIS JADOT BEAUNE BOUCHEROTTES 1ER CRU 2010
AC

121319 (XD) 750mL $73.00

TASTING NOTE: A toasty nose with plenty of menthol influence also evidences ripe red currant and plum aromas that are liberally sprinkled with warm earth notes. There is a seductive mouth feel to the rich, supple and quite round medium-bodied flavors that are relatively forward though the finale is dusty, firm and very Beaune. This is a classic Boucherottes that combines an agreeably accessible mid-palate with good aging potential. Outstanding. Drink: 2018+. Score: 90-92 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, April 1, 2012)

DOMAINE FRANÇOIS LUMPP GIVRY CLOS DES VIGNES RONDES 2015
AC

485003 (XD) 750mL $50.00

François Lumpp began his viticultural career in 1977 and founded his own label in 1991 with his wife, Isabelle. All of his wines are from Givry, from vineyards that he himself has planted and cared for - a rare situation in Burgundy. His wines are characterful and refined and, though ageable, are typically crafted to be approachable young. He has established a considerable reputation for his white wines. You can expect this wine to be floral with suggestions of pear, apple and white peach with a rich and lush mouthfeel.

DOMAINE PINSON FRÈRES LES CLOS CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2015
AC

209049 (XD) 750mL $89.00

TASTING NOTE: Moderate wood sets off notes of white flowers, pear, apple, spice and mineral reduction. The wood can also be found on the rich, bold and muscular flavors where a distinct minerality adds lift to the palate drenching finish. This is one of rare occasions when a Les Clos will be approachable young. Drink: 2020+. Score: 90-92 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 8, 2016)

JOSEPH DROUHIN PULIGNY-MONTRACHET LES FOLATIÈRES 1ER CRU 2015

968099 (XD) 750mL $139.00

TASTING NOTE: A soupçon of wood surrounds the ripe acacia blossom, lemon rind and slightly exotic white fruit aromas. Once again there is fine richness to the concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess impeccable balance and excellent length on the mouth coating, lemony and moderately dry finish. This generous effort should both drink reasonably well young yet reward 5 to 8 years of cellaring too. Drink: 2021+. Outstanding. Score: 91 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, June 11, 2017)

VINCENT GIRARDIN MEURSAULT LES TILLETS 2015
AC

516708 (XD) 750mL $89.00

Famous for its rich and textured Chardonnay, Meursault produces wines that are typically floral with plenty of apple and pear, and can also contain nutty tones. The region has no grand cru growing sites, but its many fine lieu-dit sites, such as Les Tillets, have helped forge its reputation as the unquestioned home of the most luxuriant and opulent white Burgundy wines.

BILLAUD-SIMON MONTÉE DE TONNERRE CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2014
AC

397075 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: A spicy nose grudgingly liberates notes of citrus, floral, wet stone, oyster shell and iodine. There is a fine blend of power and finesse with outstanding punch, complexity and balance on the beautifully lingering and markedly dry finish. A classic Montée de Tonnerre of refinement and grace. 17566 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: Here the deftly oaked nose is comprised primarily of white orchard fruit though there are some background notes of petrol and rosemary resin. There is exceptionally good richness and volume to the sappy medium weight flavors that possess a very dry and lengthy lemon-infused finish that offers very fine power for a villages level wine. This isn't nearly as stylish as the Puligny but based on the quality it's also worth checking out plus it will age if desired. Drink 2021+. Outstanding. TASTING NOTE: The small village of Chânes lies in the south of the appellation, well exposed to the sun. That shows in this warm wine with its ripe apple and pear flavor. Wood aging adds richness, filling out the rich fruits with toast. This generous wine will age another year. Drink from 2017. Editors' Choice. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 1, 2016)

TASTING NOTE: A broad, charming white, featuring lemon, baked apple, vanilla, clove and nutmeg flavors, with fine concentration and length. 534891 (XD) 750mL $86.00

TASTING NOTE: A vague hint of lactic doesn't help the appeal of the otherwise fresh aroma of white orchard fruit and acacia blossom and my predicted range assumes that it will properly clean up. There is both good volume and richness to the delicious and attractively textured flavors that also culminate in a clean, dry and lingering finale. Drink: 2020+. TASTING NOTE: An exceptionally pretty nose of acacia blossom and essence of pear is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The round, rich and delicious medium-bodied flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration while offering solid depth on the clean, dry and racy finale. This is lovely and should also drink well young and with a few years of bottle age. Drink: 2020+. Outstanding. Score: 90 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, June 15, 2016)

JEAN DAUVISSAT VIEILLES VIGNES VAILLONS CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2011

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons Vieilles Vignes comes from vines over 80 years old from 2 parcels in Vaillons raised in barrel and stainless steel in the first year and only stainless steel in the second. It demonstrates great detail on the nose: freshly sliced lemon, complemented by flint and smoke aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with an engaging core of mandarin and apricot, surrounded by superb mineral notes. Very precise with great length, this is another superb Chablis wine. Drink now-2025. TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is reminiscent of a slightly improved 2005 and has a fresh, classic style with beautiful concentration, notable freshness, first-rate tannin quality, and the classic spice and sweet red and black fruits this cuvee is known for. I suspect this beauty will close down relatively quickly after bottling and take 5-6 years to show at its best, but it will drink well for 15+ years. Drink Date: 2021-2036. TASTING NOTE: After a touch of funky reduction, beautiful hints of herbs appear: yarrow and lemon balm play alongside lemon and crisp green-apple aromas. On the palate, these notions all remain taut along a very linear, slender but concentrated body that owes more to citrus than to apples. TASTING NOTE: This is a blend of fruit from the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. MOËT & CHANDON MCIII CHAMPAGNE
AC

470575 (XD) 750mL $657.00

TASTING NOTE: As MC-owned Dom Pérignon sails under its own flag, the NV MCIII is the new prestige cuvée of Moët & Chandon, and it is nothing but a unique assemblage of different vintages or what MC calls "the Champagne of the third millennium." With its ambitious MCIII, Moët seeks the perfect "balance between harmony and generous complexity" by blending young vintages aged in stainless steel vats (I), with matured vintages aged in oak casks (II), and rare vintages aged in glass bottles (III). Call it madness or the "icon of luxury for a new generation," but this is of what the inaugural assemblage NV MCIII 001.14 is made: steel-fermented vins clairs of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the vintage 2003, which were blended together in 2004 and comprise 40% of the cuvée (I); another 40% blends the declared vintages 2002, 2000 and 1998 that were mainly fermented in large oak vats and kept as vins clairs for Moët's Grand Vintage (II); and the final 20% assembles the Grand Vintage Collection Champagnes 1999, 1998 and 1993, which had already undergone the second fermentation, but had not been disgorged yet (III). The "ultimate expression of blending" was created in 2004 and kept for ten years on the lees of the second (respectively third) fermentation. The cuvée 001.14 was disgorged in 2014 as Brut with a dosage of four or five grams per liter. The expensive wine offers a fascinatingly deep and concentrated bouquet that is very clear and fresh in its fruit aromas, but also delivers complex secondary aromas of coffee, nougat, biscuits and many more flavors. Full-bodied, ripe and intense on the palate, this is a rich and powerful, yet round and highly elegant cuvée of great complexity and persistence. It is stunningly fresh and pairs fruity aromas with nutty and spicy flavors, revealing a delicate tannin structure and a very long, salty and mineral finish. The MCIII can age for many years and I would recommend not drinking it much earlier than 2020. Drink: 2020-2040. Score: 95+ (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, June 29, 2016)

TARLANT CUVÉE LOUIS EXTRA BRUT CHAMPAGNE

TASTING NOTE: This is a decadent and rich blended Champagne with a very fine bubble and texture. Full body, dried mango, pineapple and lemon character with a bread dough and light cheese aftertaste. ALPHONSE MELLOT LES ROMAINS SANCERRE 2014
AC

518282 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Sancerre les Romains reflects the combination of flint on limestone soils in a 1.2-hectare plot with vines averaging 65 years of age. The wine opens extremely pure and clear on the nose, with tea and floral aromas intertwined with white fruit and lemon flavors. On the palate, this is a very pure, fresh and firmly structured Sancerre provided with great precision, tension and length. There is almost no fruit in this bare wine, at least no charm, but it does have purity, austerity, tension and lots of complexity. A great Sancerre! Drink: 2016-2026. TASTING NOTE: Just slightly less impressive than the 2010, the 2012 Corbières Inedite is the top cuvee of the estate and checks in as 50% Syrah, 35% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre, all from clay and limestone soils, that was completely destemmed and aged all in larger oak foudre. Crème de cassis, blackberries, peppery herbs and underbrush all flow to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and gorgeously pure Corbières that has more focus and freshness than most in the vintage. There's certainly no harm in drinking a bottle today, but it will keep nicely for 5-8 years. Drink: 2016-2024. Score: 92 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, April 27, 2016)

SCHLOSS GOBELSBURG ZOBING RIESLING 2015
DAC Kamptal

523191 (XD) 750mL $30.00

TASTING NOTE: Clean, slender poise and quiet citrus conviction give this wonderfully light wine its chief character. There is gentle but pure lemon freshness at the very core of this, radiating weightless brightness. This leaves you thoroughly refreshed. With its energy and drive this wine means that conversation will be enlivened rather than dampened. Score: 92 (Anne Krebiehl, MW, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2016)

SCHLOSS JOHANNISBERG GRUNLACK RIESLING SPÄTLESE 2015
Qualitätswein

523332 (S) 750mL $48.00

TASTING NOTE: Fermented at 50% in 1,200-liter oak barrels, the 2015 Schloss Johannisberger Grünlack Riesling Spätlese opens with a very clear and piquant lemon and stony flavor, with yellow stone fruit and lactic aromas (of burnt milk) in the background. Very complex. On the palate, this 2015 Spätlese is piquant and creamy, very fresh and pure, with a remarkable acidity (of nine grams per liter) which balanced the 77 grams of residual sugar perfectly. This is a very finesse-full and stimulating Spätlese with mineral grip and tension. Gorgeous. Drink: 2025-2040. Score: 93 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

SCHLOSS JOHANNISBERG ROTLACK RIESLING KABINETT TROCKEN 2015
Qualitätswein

523324 (XD) 750mL $38.00

TASTING NOTE: Sourced from the stony upper part of the Johannisberg, the 2015 Schloss Johannisberger Rotlack Riesling Kabinett Trocken is a beautifully clear and concentrated wine with red berry and delicate flinty aromas. On the palate, the Rotlack is virtually too intense and complex for a Kabinett, but with this terroir and a vintage like 2015, it seems impossible to harvest a Kabinett. Mind you, though, that this is not a heavy wine. It is just that complex, dry, pure, stony and well structured, due to the stony grand cru terroir with its clay topsoil. It is a grand cru, in fact, and you could still taste this in 10-15 years, if you were passionate enough. This wine is bone dry and was bottled with just 11.5% alcohol. Drink: 2017-2030. Score: 91 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

HUSH HEATH BALFOUR 1503 CLASSIC CUVÉE BRUT SPARKLING
England

516542 (XD) 750mL $37.00

TASTING NOTE: 50% Pinot Noir, 45% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Meunier. Broad, powerful, toasty and ripe autolytic fruit with notes of baked apples and light camomile hints. There's a marshmallow lightness to the palate, with gentle pastry notes, excellent, elegant balance and serious length. Score: Gold (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2015)

DISZNOKO 5 PUTTONYOS TOKAJI ASZU 2008
Hungary

452292 (S) 500mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: Tasted at the Disznóko vertical in London, the 2008 Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos is a blend of 70% Furmint, 20% Zéta and 10% Hárslevelu, the maceration mostly with finished wine. This has an exceptional bouquet: Satsuma and mandarin, quince and marmalade, wonderful mineralite and tension. The palate is very well balanced with mandarin, lime, orange rind and a touch of quince. This is edgy, a more unpredictable yet compelling Tokaji from Disznoko with a very long and sustained finish. This comes highly recommended - an outstanding 5 Puttonyos. Drink Date: 2020. Score: 96 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

SAN LEONARDO 2011
IGT Vigneti delle Dolomiti

32474 (XD) 750mL $94.00

This wine received a rating of 3 Glasses out of 3 in the 2017 Gambero Rosso.

TASTING NOTE: A beautiful symphony of flavors with cassis, cedar and tobacco notes. The tannins are beautifully handled with 13.5% alcohol. Still young and vibrant, but ready to enjoy now. The first vintage was in 1982. This wine is always a blend of 60% Cabernet, 30% Carmenere and 10% Merlot and aged for 2 years in barriques. Score: 92 (Jeannie Cho Lee, MW, jeanniecholee.com, June 26, 2017)

PIO CESARE BAROLO 2013
DOCG

736587 (XD) 750mL $84.00

TASTING NOTE: The aromas to this are really impressive with crushed berries, dried flowers, walnuts and roses. Metamorphoses all the time. Full to medium body, characterized by a fantastic mouthfeel of ripe and round tannins that are always polished and beautiful. Magnificent harmony and purity. Drink or hold. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, July 11, 2017)

SAN BIAGIO MONTERSINO BARBARESCO 2013
DOCG

181370 (XD) 750mL $42.00

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of blueberry, blackberry and cherry follow through to a full body, chewy and powerful tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Touches of tar and bitter lemon aftertaste. Better in a year or two. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 21, 2016)

FRATELLI ALESSANDRIA BAROLO 2012
DOCG

517128 (XD) 750mL $63.00

TASTING NOTE: This elegant, full-bodied wine opens with delicate scents of rose, iris and wild berry. The palate is juicy and delicious, offering ripe black cherry, crushed raspberry, grilled herb and tobacco alongside a backbone of firm, velvety tannins. Drink: 2020-2028. This was rated no. 79 on the 2016 Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Cellar Selections. Score: 94 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 1, 2016)

BATASIOLO BOFANI BAROLO 2010
DOCG

349506 (XD) 750mL $86.00

TASTING NOTE: Structured but elegant, this opens with a classic Nebbiolo bouquet of crushed flowers, perfumed berries, leather, spice and balsamic. The ethereal palate weaves together juicy red cherry, mint, cinnamon, clove and alpine herbs all supported by silky, smooth tannins. It's already tempting, but hold for additional complexity. Drink: 2018-2038. Score: 94 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 1, 2014)

DAMILANO 1752 RISERVA CANNUBI BAROLO 2008
DOCG

526459 (XD) 750mL $253.00

TASTING NOTE: Tasted from magnum, the 2008 Barolo Riserva Cannubi 1752 offers budding tertiary notes that add a delicate veil of complexity and finesse to the bouquet. The Damilano family has owned vineyards in Cannubi since 1935 and they created this special anniversary wine to celebrate the first historic single-vineyard production of Cannubi that can be traced back to the year 1752. Only 6,600 bottles were produced (sold in cases of six 750-milliliter bottles or magnums), and the 2008 vintage is the first edition produced. The wine is silky and long with lingering tones of smoke, licorice, tar and pressed fruit. The tannins are silky, but there is a spot of cherry sweetness on the finish that indicates a slow, future-aging evolution ahead. Drink: 2018-2035. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, June 29, 2016)

GIACOMO BORGOGNO & FIGLI RISERVA BAROLO CLASSICO 1998
DOCG

26815 (XD) 750mL $106.00

TASTING NOTE: The Borgogno family is one of the dynasties of Barolo and traces its origins in the wine trade back to 1761, making it perhaps the oldest house in the entire zone. The approach, until recently, has been - understandably - ultra-conservative, at times resembling virtual immobility, but things seem to be loosening up in recent years and the Riserva wines are well worth looking for. The 1998 Barolo Classico Riserva, in fact, is outstanding, very sizeable in its expression of the roses, resin, plums, and anisette of Nebbiolo and endowed with a powerhouse palate, very rich but round and velvety as well. The fruit, minerals, and classy tannins of the close, the sweetness and irresistible texture make this one of the essential wines of the 1998 vintage. Drink: 2005-2020. Score: 93 (Daniel Thomases, robertparker.com, Aug. 28, 2005)

TIGNANELLO 2014
IGT Toscana

534511 (XD) 375mL $66.00

TASTING NOTE: Tignanello has this amazing ability of always being, well, Tignanello. Its very DNA makes it among the most distinctive and recognizable wines in the world. I'm happy to report that this is also the case for the 2014 Tignanello that faced very different growing conditions compared to most. The wine is beautiful and balanced with sweet tannins and a supporting oak texture that is neatly folded at the back. The wine is all about measure and proportion, and it aspires to these goals with an impressive sense of natural harmony. This is not an overtly powerful or muscular expression. Instead, it shows a tasty, almost savory form of elegance. This vintage was made with 75% Sangiovese, which means that the Cabernet presence is a tad bigger than normal. Ultimately, this wine is more finessed and delicate, and I appreciate the careful tannic management on display here. Drink: 2018-2028. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, April 28, 2017)

CASTELLO DI AMA VIGNETO BELLAVISTA GRAN SELEZIONE CHIANTI CLASSICO 2013
DOCG

163337 (XD) 750mL $244.00

TASTING NOTE: The superb 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows impeccable balance and offers a classic portrait of Sangiovese (with a small part Malvasia Nera). Castello di Ama has a beautifully unique way of interpreting the potential of the Chianti Classico appellation and this wine is a prime example. The bouquet follows classic lines with wild berry and spice, but Vigneto Bellavista also boasts a wild side with some cured meat and animal-like aromas that suit it very well. The mouthfeel is polished and streamlined, but those dark fruit flavors should flesh out with more bottle aging. Drink: 2017-2035. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

CASTELLO DI AMA VIGNETO LA CASUCCIA GRAN SELEZIONE CHIANTI CLASSICO 2013
DOCG

979278 (XD) 750mL $244.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is soft, open-knit and succulent. Silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red cherry, plum, rose petal mint and sweet spices. The Casuccia is the most sensual and racy of the Ama wines today. It should drink well with minimal cellaring. Once again, the purity of the fruit is striking. The creamy, explosive finish is a thing of beauty. The second time I tasted the 2013 one word came to mind: elation. Drinking window: 2021-2038. Score: 97 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2016)

LE MACCHIOLE SCRIO 2013
IGT Toscana

945352 (XD) 750mL $198.00

TASTING NOTE: Wow. This is the best syrah in Tuscany this year with incredible depth and beauty. The texture is so plush yet polished and caressing. Full body. The finish of chocolate, hazelnuts, smoked meat and fruit lasts for minutes. Drink or hold. Pure syrah. Score: 98 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 9, 2016)

CASANOVA DI NERI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

85498 (XD) 750mL $79.00

TASTING NOTE: Effusive aromas and flavors of raspberry, cherry, floral, mineral and tobacco are at the center of this linear, vibrant red. Well-structured, this offers terrific length on the sinewy finish. Best from 2020 through 2035. Score: 95 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, June 15, 2017)

COLOMBINI PRIME DONNE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

709733 (XD) 750mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Prime Donne shows floral notes of pressed violet or red rose petal that distinguish it from its peers. Those delicate tones are very much in line with Sangiovese and it's nice to think that they have remained intact despite the hot growing season. Background notes of cassis, dried plum and spice fill in the rear. A dry mineral note that recalls polished river stone or crushed granite also appears. This wine boasts a terrific bouquet that is infused with elegance and grace. The mouthfeel is polished and streamlined. Perhaps the persistence is slightly shorter compared to the 2010 vintage, but this wine more than makes up for this thanks to the high quality of its aromas. Drink: 2018-2030. Score: 94+ (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

FULIGNI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

245225 (XD) 750mL $92.00

TASTING NOTE: Forest floor, aromatic herb, dark spice and eucalyptus aromas come together with a floral twist. Bright and elegant, the palate shows succulent wild cherry, white pepper, star anise and chopped mint flavors. With its taut, fine-grained tannins and firm acidity, it needs time to unwind and fully develop. Drink: 2022-2032. Cellar Selection. Score: 95 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2017)

LUCE DELLA VITE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

120881 (XD) 750mL $120.00

TASTING NOTE: Luce della Vita is a second important brand owned by the Frescobaldi family in Montalcino. Their other historic estate is the Tenuta Castelgiocondo with a beautiful villa overlooking the vineyards. The Luce brand does extremely well in foreign markets thanks to its elegant marketing and packaging. The Luce della Vite 2012 Brunello di Montalcino sees an annual production of approximately 25,000 bottles. The wine is styled with contemporary flair. The color is richly saturated and inky dark with bright ruby highlights. The color is very attractive. Bold cherry and blackberry emerge from the bouquet, and there's a generous amount of oak spice and toast to speak to an international palate. Integrated oak tannins are folded within the wine's rich and fruity consistency. Drink 2017-2028. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

POGGIO AL TESORO DEDICATO A WALTER 2011
DOC Bolgheri Superiore

109553 (XD) 750mL $85.00

TASTING NOTE: Lots of fresh tobacco and nutmeg character with some orange peel and berry character. Full body, velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. It is a 100% cabernet franc wine. Better in 2019. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, July 19, 2016)

QUERCIABELLA TURPINO 2011
IGT Toscana

526483 (XD) 750mL $57.00

TASTING NOTE: Enticing aromas and flavors of cherry, leather, licorice and mineral are the hallmarks of this polished, intense red. Beautifully balanced, but requires a little more time for the dense tannins to soften. Shows terrific length and a complex aftertaste. Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot. Drink now through 2023. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Sept. 30, 2016)

SAN FELICE POGGIO ROSSO RISERVA CHIANTI CLASSICO 2011
DOCG

902809 (XD) 750mL $69.00

TASTING NOTE: The estate's 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio Rosso is quite a bit darker and richer than most years. Black cherry, plum, spice, pine and menthol note flesh out in the glass. A wine of substance and textural richness, the 2011 is a great example of the broad, ample wines made in this vintage. It will be interesting to see if the 2011 finds more focus with time in bottle, as the 2010 did. Drinking window: 2014-2021. Score: 91+ (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Sept. 2014)

SASSO DI SOLE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

515734 (XD) 750mL $54.00

TASTING NOTE: A red with dried berry and cherry character. Lots of spices from nutmeg to cloves. Full body, velvety tannins and a savory finish. Drink or hold. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Jan. 20, 2015)

TENUTA DI ARCENO ARCANUM 2009
IGT Toscana

402248 (D) 750mL $129.00

TASTING NOTE: Dense and powerful, this red layers ripe black currant, cherry, chocolate, prune and spice flavors over firm, assertive tannins. This is starting to hit its stride, but needs food to match the tannins. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2018. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, March 31, 2015)

TENUTA DI TRINORO 2009
IGT Toscana

343707 (XD) 750mL $400.00

TASTING NOTE: If you ask Andrea Franchetti to name his two favorite vintages of the past, they are 2001 and 2009. The 2009 Tenuta di Trinoro is indeed an outstanding blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine is showing beautifully right now and promises more excellence to carry it forward over the years. At the moment, it is seamless and infinite with a superior sense of balance and dark fruit integrity. It speaks in a loud, clear and articulate voice. The wine's appearance shows a dark, impenetrable color that underlines the ideal growing conditions of the vintage and the slow fruit-ripening. The aromas are stunning and perfectly balanced, showing both elegance and power. The tannins deliver dimension and a firmly unyielding quality that bodes very well for the future evolution of this stunning wine. Drink: 2015-2030. Score: 99 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

CASANOVA DI NERI CERRETALTO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2008
DOCG

85258 (XD) 750mL $360.00

LUNGAROTTI RUBESCO MONTICCHIO TORGIANO ROSSO RISERVA 2010

TOMMASI AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2013
DOCG

297994 (D) 1500mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: Bright dark red with a pale amber tinge at the rim. Ripe aromas and flavors of red cherry and aromatic spices. Offers a decadent, luscious mouthfeel with soft tannins, but also a touch of alcohol-derived warmth. The finish is long and savory. Though not the most complex Amarone Tommasi has ever made, it has a lovely easy to drink quality for such a big wine and is very hard to resist in its candied, opulent personality. Drinking window: 2019-2025. Score: 90 (Ian D'Agata, vinous.com, May 2017)

MASI MAZZANO AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2004
DOCG

215764 (XD) 750mL $248.00

TASTING NOTE: The belle of the ball, the 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Mazzano is a breathtaking effort that is drinking beautifully right now. The wine is richly textured and intricate with tightly embroidered notes of dried cherry, barbecue sauce, cured meat, juniper berry, plum cake, leather and grilled herb. It shows the power of Amarone with the elegance of a wine made from fresh berries (not air-dried fruit). But make no mistake, that extra appassimento intensity and texture is on full display. Drink 2015-2030. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Oct. 30, 2013)

SPERI VIGNE MONTE SANT'URBANO AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2004

TASTING NOTE: There's a ripe, full quality to this richly concentrated Amarone that fuels power and momentum on the palate. You'll get black pepper, chewy cherry and an earthy touch of red beets. The wine is soft and yielding with tender, easy tannins. Score: 91 (Monica Larner, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 1, 2008)

MONTE DA RAVASQUEIRA MR PREMIUM RED 2012

522086 (XD) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: A tribute to the family patriarch, José Manuel de Mello, the wine is structured and dense. It is a concentrated product from a selection of parcels, aged in new oak. Full of black-plum fruit, dark tannins as well as a firm texture, the wine is developing and will be ready from 2019. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 1, 2016)

CARMELO RODERO PAGO DE VALTARREÑA 2014
DO Ribera del Duero

528489 (XD) 750mL $85.00

TASTING NOTE: The single-vineyard Tempranillo from a plot that names the 2014 Carmelo Rodero Pago de Valtarreña matured in new French barriques for two years, yet the oak feels perfectly integrated and folded into the fruit of this balanced year. The aromas are subtle, and so is the palate, with the power and concentration you'd expect from old vines from Ribera del Duero. Impressive! Drink Date: 2017-2026. Score: 94 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

VEGA SICILIA VALBUENA 5° 2012
DO Ribera del Duero

486910 (XD) 750mL $207.00

TASTING NOTE: Lightly charred, toasty berry aromas come with a full covering of clove and baking spice scents in this plush wine. The palate is edged with drying tannins, bolstering exotic berry, spice and herbal flavors. Its long, balanced finish features chocolate and unabsorbed oak. Drink through 2022. Cellar Selection. Score: 94 (Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, Aug. 1, 2017)

NUMANTHIA 2010
DO Toro

260927 (XD) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2010 Numanthia comes from a cooler vintage than the 2009 - a season when Manuel Louzada told me that he had to wear a pullover in the vineyard during picking! It is aged for 21 months in new French oak. The bouquet demonstrates more fruit concentration and clarity than the 2009, the 0.5% less alcohol making a tangible difference. The aromatics are more Medoc-like than the 2009. The palate is full-bodied with mouth-gripping tannins, yet it has a silky smooth texture. There is real attack on the mid-palate, perhaps a little more vigor and tension with hints of graphite and sous-bois towards the strict finish. This is due to be launched in September 2013 and should be at the top of any Toro-lovers' list - maybe even above Termanthia? Drink 2018-2028+. Score: 94 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, April 24, 2013)

RODA I RESERVA 2009
DOCa Rioja

32565 (XD) 750mL $83.00

TASTING NOTE: If 2008 felt cool and Atlantic, the 2009 Roda I could be described as Mediterranean, from a warm and healthy vintage. Here they aim for black fruit character while the regular Roda should show red fruit. The grapes are sourced from over 30-year-old vines and is mostly Tempranillo with some 5% Graciano. It matured in first and second use French oak barrels for 16 months. It's a warm vintage, without reaching the heights of 2011, but there was some stress in the peak of the summer, which in some wines might have provided some dry tannins. The advantage of old vines is that they are able to absorb these effects. There was some rain in September that might have saved the vintage. In general, everybody talks about a very healthy vintage, but again the challenge is to keep the freshness. The nose shows those aromas of thyme and rosemary, with dark fruit, ripe and a bit heady. The palate is truly spicy, voluptuous and full, with dusty, fine tannins and a tasty finish. 99,661 bottles produced. Drink Date: 2016-2022. Score: 93 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

This remarkable collection is one of the most spectacular in the world. Conde de los Andes has begun to release limited quantities of older vintages, providing wine lovers an amazing opportunity to experience the magnificence of mature Rioja.

QUEYLUS GRAND RESERVE MERLOT/CABERNET FRANC 2012
VQA Niagara Peninsula

536987 (XD) 750mL $49.95

TASTING NOTE: In 2012 the varietal relationship is magnified, pursued with prejudice and made blatantly obvious. The Cabernet Franc does the heavy lifting, bringing out the lovely dust, fine aggregate and mulled berry aspects of the Merlot. Richness is Merlot deep. Length, depth and a serious zest for blended life emits from energy. This vitality begins in the clay soil and the pioneering vision of Mr. Alain Sutre. Thomas and Kelly have transmitted his identification for the Queylus site to be one of the great essential locales in the development of harmony and power for the Bordeaux in Niagara varietal treatise. This is the starting point for the plan. It's also a wine that is a product of Pinot Noir winemakers and doubting Thomases. Because it goes ripe. Drink 2017-2027. Score: 92 (Michael Godel, winealign.com, Dec. 24, 2015)

QUEYLUS RÉSERVE DU DOMAINE CABERNET FRANC/MERLOT 2012
VQA Niagara Peninsula

406462 (XD) 750mL $36.95

TASTING NOTE: A darker, warmer reduction, like fine, silky demi-glace rising and cascading as in a fountain of flavour. Possesses the drama of Lincoln Lakeshore Cabernet Franc excellence with an increase in pure cocoa butter, bike powered, stone ground chocolate and pure, decadent richness. The 2012 may lack a certain level of elegance that 2011 offered but wine must be made according to vintage. Thomas Bachelder and Kelly Mason have listened to the Queylus winds and followed ear worm orders. Drink 2016-2024. Score: 91 (Michael Godel, winealign.com, Dec. 24, 2015)

MOLLYDOOKER VELVET GLOVE 2016
McLaren Vale

393017 (XD) 750mL $215.00

This is an astonishing and critically acclaimed Shiraz. Though the 2016 has not yet been reviewed by the world's wine press, even a casual glance through the ratings awarded to previous vintages provides a telling record of the Velvet Glove's remarkable quality. Lisa Perrotti-Brown called the 2012 (the last vintage she has reviewed to date) a "...big, rich and concentrated wine with a great tannic backbone that is both firm and fine ..." and awarded it a rating of 97 points, suggesting a drinking range of 2014-2025 (robertparker.com, Feb. 26, 2014). Similarly, MaryAnn Worobiec awarded the 2014 vintage a score of 96 points, calling it "Dark, rich and bold, with a velvety richness to the dense tannins, providing the backbone for thick flavors of black walnut liqueur, blueberry syrup, sandalwood and espresso ..." and suggesting a drinking window extending through 2030 (winespectator.com, July 31, 2016). Year in, year out, this is one of the most impressive Shiraz in the world.

JOHN DUVAL ENTITY SHIRAZ 2014
Barossa

73056 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Entity Shiraz reveals crushed blackberries and blackcurrants on the nose with hints of dried Provence herbs, garrique, eucalypt and black pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivered mouth-filling black fruits and peppery flavors with chewy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing with a spicy lift. Drink Date: 2016-2025. Score: 92 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, June 29, 2016)

PENFOLDS RWT SHIRAZ 2014
Barossa Valley

564278 (XD) 750mL $226.00

TASTING NOTE: The Barossa Valley provenance to this wine is strong, where deep-set ripeness and a wealth of blackberries meet with smokier, tarry fruits and some redder notes too. Hints of vanillin-scented oak, dried autumnal leaves and purple florals. The palate rolls out evenly with impressive tannin ripeness, texture and build; they are a real feature of this wine and nicely defined. This is big on flavor without losing any sense of detail and nuance. Blackberry and plum-paste flavors run deep and long with mocha and sappy black cherries to close. This is a highlight of the 2016 releases. Best from 2020 and for two decades after that. Score: 96 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Dec. 7, 2016)

IRONROCK KALGAN RIVER CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Great Southern

523175 (XD) 750mL $54.00

TASTING NOTE: Hand-picked and sorted, destemmed, small batch ferments, extended post-ferment maceration, matured in French barriques (38% new). An exceptional cabernet with multiple layers of fruit, tannins and oak sliding against, around and through each other as you taste and retaste the wine. Its greater degree of ripeness and more new oak than its sibling make comparisons invidious: each has its own strength, here a luscious complexity. Drink By: 2043. Special Value. Score: 96 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Oct. 6, 2016)

SCHILD ESTATE LIMITED RELEASE MOOROOROO VINERYARD SHIRAZ 2013
Barossa

521088 (XD) 750mL $89.00

TASTING NOTE: A phenomenal shiraz with dried meat, blackberry, bacon and wet-earth aromas. It's full-bodied with a little CO2 on the palate that maintains freshness, so decant before serving. Shows so much intense fruit but also balance and complexity. This is from an ancient vineyard of syrah planted in 1847, one of the oldest in Barossa. Only about 300 cases made. Drink or hold. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 17, 2015)

ASTRALIS SYRAH 2009
McLaren Vale

498907 (XD) 750mL $500.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 Astralis presents a very fruity, floral nose with lifted notes of blueberries. The palate is concentrated with a slight prune character and has very crisp acidity. At this stage the phenolics are showing a little chewy before finishing long. Drink it now to 2027+. Score: 97 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Feb. 26, 2014)

ASTRALIS SHIRAZ 2008
McLaren Vale

524249 750mL $365.00

TASTING NOTE: Also deep garnet-purple in color, the 2008 Astralis is a little reduced and brooding on the nose showing aromas of dark berries, meat, licorice and dark chocolate. Big, full-bodied and rich in the mouth it has balanced acid along with medium-firm grainy tannins. It finishes long and balanced. Drink it now to 2028+. Score: 97 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Feb. 26, 2014)

CATENA ZAPATA NICASIA MALBEC 2013
Uco Valley

510941 (XD) 750mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Malbec Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard is produced with grapes from the vineyard that names it -- a vineyard planted in 1997 in the Altamira zone of Valle de Uco. It's mostly Malbec with some 4% Cabernet Franc, but the two grapes fermented together. It has less Cabernet Franc than other years because 2013 was fresh enough that just that pinch provided enough of the character they are looking for. They call this "the most Malbec of our Malbecs" and it has the textbook aromas of violets and red berries with perfectly integrated oak. The palate is also elegant and fresh and showcases the telltale round tannins of Malbec. This is truly outstanding. Some 8,000 bottles were filled in December 2015. Drink Date: 2016-2023. Score: 96 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

CATENA ZAPATA NICOLÁS CABERNET SAUVIGNON/MALBEC 2013
Uco Valley

510958 (XD) 750mL $124.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Nicolás Catena Zapata is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Malbec from the La Pirámide, Adrianna and Nicasia vineyards. It is perfectly clean and focused, a noticeable improvement over the 2012 vintage. The Cabernet Sauvignon from this cool vintage seems to have a more restrained character that made me think of Cabernet Franc, very classical and serious. They have been harvesting earlier and earlier in search of balance and freshness, and the strategy has definitely worked. It has great freshness and focus, and the lower alcohol and acidity seem to make the wine integrate the oak very nicely. This has to be one of the finest vintages of Nicolás Catena Zapata. Drink Date: 2016-2022. Score: 96 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

CATENA ZAPATA WHITE BONES ADRIANNA VINEYARD CHARDONNAY 2013
Uco Valley

514844 (XD) 750mL $120.00

TASTING NOTE: The superb, elegant and aromatic 2013 White Bones Chardonnay seemed to jump out of the glass with its perfumed personality. This is a selection of the more chalky soils of the Adrianna vineyard in Gualtallary. It has a spicy, nutty nose with minty freshness and a sensation of wet stones. The oak is perfectly integrated (in fact, none of the Adrianna whites showed any oak) and it has an elegant profile, a wine built around finesse and acidity. It finished with a chalky, mineral finish, definitively salty. Simply stunning! Drink Date: 2016-2024. Score: 97 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

BLACKBIRD VINEYARDS PARAMOUR 2014
Napa Valley

363051 (XD) 750mL $125.00

TASTING NOTE: Another terrific example of Blackbird is the 2014 Proprietary Red Paramour, a fabulous blend of 84% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. The Cabernet Franc comes from the Stagecoach Vineyard. Consultant Aaron Pott said he thinks they have a magical spot for it on that large eastern Napa Valley mountain site. This is terrific stuff from the super-intense fragrance of white flowers and forest floor to the blueberry, black raspberry and graphite notes. The wine hits the palate with dazzling fruit intensity, loads of glycerin, a round, juicy, succulent mouthfeel, a layered personality and a long, supple finish. Drink it now or over the next 15+ years. Drink Date: 2016-2031. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

FAR NIENTE ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Oakville

539098 (D) 750mL $245.00

James Suckling awarded this wine a rating of 93 points making particular note of its depth and richness and suggesting waiting until 2020 before opening. (jamessuckling.com, May 5, 2017)

TASTING NOTE: One of the iconic wineries of Napa Valley, this blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec has produced a relatively restrained and elegant 2014, with pure crème de cassis fruit, some incense, licorice and subtle background barrique. It is medium to full-bodied, with sweet tannin, plenty of charm, and a relatively velvety smooth finish with well-integrated tannins and wood. This is approachable now and should continue to evolve nicely for 15-20 years. Score: 91 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

FESS PARKER ASHLEY'S PINOT NOIR 2014
Santa Rita Hills

456749 (XD) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: Fess Parker's 2014 Pinot Noir Ashley's Vineyard, which is all from the Rancho Las Hermanas Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, is a fruit-forward, charming beauty that has tons of black raspberry, smoked herbs and underbrush notes in its medium-bodied, plump, balanced, yet mouth-filling style. Seeing 20% whole clusters and 18 months in 46% new French oak, it's an outstanding Pinot Noir to drink over the coming 4-5 years. Drink Date: 2016-2021. Score: 92 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

PATZ & HALL JENKINS RANCH PINOT NOIR 2014
Sonoma Coast

38091 (XD) 750mL $127.00

TASTING NOTE: This is classic Goldridge gravelly, loamy soil in the vineyard, planted with Dijon clones 667 and 777. This wine tends to be a relatively rich, intense, more broodingly backward, fuller-bodied and extracted style of Pinot Noir. It has a dark ruby/plum color, a big sweet kiss of forest floor, black raspberries and black cherries, spices, and hints of cocoa and oak (about 60% new French oak is used). This is full-bodied with light tannin and should improve for 3-4 years and drink well for at least another decade. Drink 2020-2030. Score: 92+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, April 27, 2016)

RAYMOND GENERATIONS CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Napa Valley

941492 (D) 750mL $130.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Generations tends to be a mix of four vineyards, two in St. Helena, one in Oakville and one in east Napa. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and was bottled unfined and unfiltered, after spending 19 months in 60% new French oak. Production is a modest 1,600+ cases. A brilliant wine from Boisset, it exhibits notes of blackberry and cassis, truffle, chocolate and spice [box]. Layered and multidimensional with terrific opulence and purity, this is a "wow" wine, and while drinkable now, capable of evolving for 20 or more years. Drink Date: 2016-2036. Score: 97 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

KAPCSÁNDY FAMILY WINERY ESTATE CUVÉE 2013
State Lane Vineyard, Yountville Appellation, Napa Valley

464248 (XD) 750mL $320.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Estate Cuvée is dark, powerful and explosive, but also super-refined. Floral and spice notes appear first, followed by a host of balsamic-inflected overtones. Beams of tannin and acidity give the wine much of its energy, but the Estate Cuvée is, above all else, a wine of exquisite purity and finesse. I will not be surprised to see the 2013 show even better in another few years. With time in the glass, the 2013 fleshes out a touch, but the best is yet to come. The blend is 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Drinking window: 2018-2033. Score: 96 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

KAPCSÁNDY FAMILY WINERY GRAND VIN CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
State Lane Vineyard, Yountville Appellation, Napa Valley

470922 (XD) 750mL $1,039.00

Antonio Galloni awarded this wine a rating of 99 points and suggested a drinking window extending from 2020 through 2033. (vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

TASTING NOTE: Little can be added to the greatness of the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin, a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine (600 cases) is truly stunning in its dense, crème de cassis and blackberry-scented nose with a hint of barbecue smoke and forest floor. Tasting like a ripe vintage of Château Latour from Pauillac, the wine has amazing richness and a savory, expansive mouthfeel, but tiptoes across the palate like a ballerina. A wine of magnificent richness and intensity, but vibrancy, purity and overall equilibrium, this is a staggeringly great wine and another tribute to the Kapcsándy family's extraordinary professionalism and meticulous attention to detail in their vineyard. Score: 100 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

KERR CELLARS RESERVE 2013
Napa Valley

530956 (XD) 750mL $265.00

TASTING NOTE: The proprietary red blends were spectacular, starting with the 2013 Reserve Proprietary Red, which is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard and the rest Merlot from the Houyi Vineyard on Pritchard Hill. A stunning fragrance of black raspberries, blueberry liqueur, creosote and incense, the wine hits the palate with stunning purity, full-bodied richness, great penetration and overall equilibrium. This is a sensational, world-class red capable of evolving for the next 30 or more years. Score: 98 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

LA JOTA HOWELL MOUNTAIN MERLOT 2013
Napa Valley

360859 (XD) 750mL $149.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Merlot Howell Mountain is a blend of 91% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, aged in 80% new French oak. The wine is dense and exhibits loads of mocha, lead-pencil shavings, black cherry and Asian plum spices as well as some sauce-like characteristics in a full-bodied, opulent, very fleshy and dense style. This is stick-to-your-ribs, mouth-coating Merlot to drink over the next 12-15 years. Drink Date: 2015-2030. Score: 94 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2015)

FREEMARK ABBEY SYCAMORE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Rutherford

391060 (D) 750mL $195.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Sycamore Vineyard comes from a vineyard located at the end of Bella Oaks Lane in Rutherford. This has slightly less Cabernet Sauvignon than the Bosche Vineyard, at 84%, and the rest is Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged three months less in oak. Loads of clove, sweet blackberry and cassis, black olive tapenade and earthy forest floor notes are all present in this wine that shows dazzling richness, a heady full-bodied mouthfeel and stunning finish. The wine is slightly more evolved with the tannins and structure less present than in the Bosché. Drink Date: 2017-2032. Score: 95+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

DUMOL CLARE CHARDONNAY 2014
Hyde Vineyard, Carneros, Napa Valley

523779 (XD) 750mL $119.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Chardonnay Clare has a white peach, preserved lemons and yuzu-scented nose with underlying touches of cedar, buttered toast and shaved almonds. The palate is bold and intensely fruited with a pleasant oiliness, yet it is medium-bodied, finishing long with lovely purity. Drink Date: 2017-2022. Score: 95 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

DUMOL ESTATE CHARDONNAY 2014
Sonoma Coast

470278 (XD) 750mL $122.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Chardonnay Estate Vineyard reveals very pretty notes of peach blossoms and candied ginger over a core of nectarines, acacia honey, baking bread and marzipan. Medium-bodied with a silken texture and wonderful intensity of yeasty/savory flavors, it has a great frame of freshness and epic length. A beautiful, truly elegant style. Score: 96+ (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

ZOTOVICH SANTA RITA HILLS ESTATE CHARDONNAY 2013
Santa Rita Hills

528026 (XD) 750mL $62.00

TASTING NOTE: Very focused Key-lime aromas meet with strongly earthy, wet-clay scents on the nose of this wine that also offers a subtle minty kick. The palate is citrus-driven, with kumquat and tangerine flavors that give way to a warmer cream element before settling on a tense pink-grapefruit pith element. Score: 93 (Matt Kettman, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2016)

PHELPS CREEK CUVÉE ALEXANDRINE PINOT NOIR 2014
Columbia Gorge

462895 (XD) 750mL $85.00

TASTING NOTE: Winemaker Alexandrine Roy selected the finest 15 barrels of wines made from estate fruit in 2014 for this wine. Harvest Brix 23.8º. Clones are Pommard, 115 and 777. Native yeast fermentation. Aged in French oak barrels, 25% new. Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. The nose is remarkably complex, offering scents of dark red and black cherry and berry, rose petal, aged leather, and turned earth. A noticeable contrast to the "Beehive" bottling, with more structure, more savory and earthy facets, less flashy fruit, and slightly more oak contribution at this young age. A very sophisticated wine that is clearly built to age. The mid weight flavors of black raspberry and blackberry are set off by notes of spice and toast and emerge slowly in the glass over time. The finish is uncommonly generous as all great wines are. When tasted several hours later, the wine was more giving, indicating that it should be decanted if drunk now, but will benefit from more time in the cellar. Still evolving when tasted from an opened bottle two days later. Enjoy this one for its complexity and longevity. Score: 96 (William Gaffney, princeofpinot.com, Feb. 1, 2017)

SOTER MINERAL SPRINGS PINOT NOIR 2014
Yamhill-Carlton District

424283 (XD) 750mL $99.00

TASTING NOTE: Terrific aromas of strawberries and rose petals with superb energy and vibrance. Full body, incredible power and depth and fabulous balance and intensity. A tightly wound ball of silk. Superb quality here. Better in 2020. Score: 98 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 2, 2016)

CADENCE CAMERATA CARA MIA VINEYARD 2013
Red Mountain

533992 (XD) 750mL $95.00

TASTING NOTE: A significantly different blend from the 2012, which was over 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2013 Camerata checks in as 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot, which like the Bel Canto spent 23 months in 50% new French oak. Possessing a fabulous bouquet of black currants, toasted spice, licorice and wild herbs, this full-bodied 2013 is concentrated, incredibly elegant and textured, with ripe tannin and a balanced, layered style that will evolve gracefully. It should be at its best from 2020-2033. Score: 94 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, June 29, 2016)

L'ECOLE NO. 41 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Walla Walla Valley

104356 (XD) 750mL $66.00

TASTING NOTE: Broad and open-textured, brimming with cherry, blackberry, floral and licorice flavors. The finish gains lift and momentum against buffed, fine-grained tannins. Has presence and an earthy tinge. Best from 2018 through 2023. Score: 92 (Harvey Steiman, winespectator.com, Dec. 15, 2016)

GÉRARD BERTRAND LEGEND VINTAGE RIVESALTES 1969
AC

527895 (MS) 750mL $280.00

Rivesaltes is one of five appellations for vin doux naturels in the Roussillon region. The 1969 is composed of Grenache, Grenache Gris and Maccabeu and was allowed to mature in barrel for over 50 years. The fermentation process is halted through the addition of alcohol to kill off the yeast. This allows unfermented sugars to remain in the wines, providing a natural sweetness. This extensive ageing in wood encourages the development of sophisticated and complex tones including dried fruit, tobacco, malt, cherry brandy, spice, walnuts, orange and coffee as well as highly defined rancio tones.

MASSENEZ GOLDEN EIGHT WILLIAMS PEAR LIQUOR

513549 700mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: Appearance: Clear, golden amber. Aroma: Overripe pear, pear drops and icing sugar. Taste: Sweet honeyed pear, pear drops candy and rich vanilla. Citric acidity and faint hint of aniseed. Aftertaste: Pear drops, ripe pear and vanilla. Overall: A rich liqueur with intense pear drop candy and vanilla flavours. Score: 4 Stars (out of 5) (diffordsguide.com, April 19, 2016)

CAMBUS 40-YEAR-OLD SINGLE GRAIN SCOTCH
Lowland

524736 750mL $1,799.00

TASTING NOTE: One of the old closed grain distilleries, Cambus stopped working in 1993. The bottle is superb, I have to admit. Colour: gold. Nose: medicinal alcohol on croissants and coconut cake, plus a lot of custard and herbal tea. Dog roses, perhaps? Notes of mirabelle pie. A rather elegant grain whisky, I especially enjoy all this white chocolate that comes through after two minutes. With water: toasts and marmalade, in all softness. Mouth (neat): really very good (yes, S. speaking), full of mangos and papayas, plus plums and hay jelly. Hay jelly's excellent, try that on foie gras! What's really excellent as well is that it's not too dominated by vanilla and coconut. Well it's not dominated at all. Great surprise. With water: a little grenadine, rhubarb, and more rhubarb. Rhubarb pie with a little cinnamon, and drizzles of lime juice. Perhaps wacky guavas too. Finish: medium, clean, limy, soft, with a little lavender (sweets) and violet drops. Comments: seriously, this is an excellent surprise, on second thought there are even nods to high-end tequilas. Now could grain whisky, even when old, be worth £750, I don't quite know, but what's sure is that I like this Cambus just as much as last year's Caledonian. Score: 4.5 Stars (out of 5) (Serge Valentin, whiskyfun.com, Oct. 24, 2016)

CRAGGANMORE SPECIAL RELEASE SINGLE MALT

524777 750mL $1,099.00

TASTING NOTE: ... Colour: gold. Nose: so very close! This is the 1999 at a higher strength, more or less. Same fat orchardy style, same herbal hints... I'm really all for this. With water: indeed, we're extremely close. This one may have a wee tad more earthy earth. Perhaps cedar wood? Mouth (neat): totally excellent, and rather different this time. The fatness is there again, and so is the honey, but it's also got rooty notes, between some kind of beetroot and sweet liquorice. Extremely creamy mouth feel. With water: maple syrup all over the place, plus a slice of pineapple and more honey. The earthy/rooty side is never far away. Finish: quite long, with a little more oranges, and plenty of fruit syrups. Perfect oaky balance. Comments: something extra. Really high-class, I'm starting to wonder if that's not a cunning plan, bottling some perfect 25yo malt whisky, wiping away the age statement, and using these as proof of the excellence of NAS whisky in general. Come on, I'm joking! Score: 5 Stars (out of 5) (Serge Valentin, whiskyfun.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

LINKWOOD 37-YEAR-OLD SPEYSIDE SINGLE MALT

524728 750mL $1,199.00

TASTING NOTE: Appearance: Clear, golden amber with shades of rose gold. Aroma:Acorns, orchard fruit, honeysuckle and spice. Water amplifies orchard fruitiness revealing waxiness. Taste: Peppery spice and pear fruit with waxiness, ginger and clove. A dash of water brings this malt elements into kilter, revealing black tea, blackcurrant and menthol cough sweets. Aftertaste: Waxy, leathery soft malty finish with orchard fruit and mild spice. Overall: Waxy leather, orchard fruit and mild spice, this malt is incredibly quaffable - the sample provided was all too small. Incredibly fruity and sprightly for a 37 year old. Score: 5+ Stars (out of 5) (diffordsguide.com, Oct. 10, 2016)

THE BALVENIE PORTWOOD 21-YEAR-OLD SINGLE MALT

500090 750mL $479.00

TASTING NOTE: Medium gold amber colour. Very attractive, fairly intense, caramel-tinged, gently smoky, plummy, orange citrus nose with some floral notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, harmonious, slightly spicy, somewhat honeyed, plummy, vanila-caramel-tinged flavours with a lingering, dryish, buttered toast finish. Score: 95 (Michael Vaughan, vintageassessments.com, Dec. 12, 2015)
