THE CLASSICS COLLECTION

JANUARY 2018

8 VINTAGES

GERMANY

– MOSEL

WHITE WINE

SELBACH-OSTER GRAACHER

DOMPROBST FEINHERB RIESLING

SPÄTLESE 2014

Qualitätswein

TASTING NOTE: Predominantly from a

90-year-old plot and another that was

re-planted in 1984, the 2014 Graacher

Domprobst Riesling Spätlese Feinherb

Alte Reben is made from berries that were

as big as peas and colored like copper.

Intense and concentrated, yet also with

very fine fruit and pip fruit aromas on the

nose, this 11% bottling is round and silky

textured on the palate, nicely concentrated

and almost creamy; it is very mineral and

long, and finishes with great finesse and

stimulating salinity. This is a great and

tension-filled Riesling of great elegance,

finesse and intensity. A beauty and one of

my favorites of the 2014 vintage. Score:

93

RED WINE

MACARICO ALTO VULTURE

AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE 2013

DOC

TASTING NOTE: Very balanced and clean,

the 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Alto Vulture

Macarico is a darkly saturated and rich

wine to pair with stewed or barbecued

meats. It offers dense concentration and

an important bouquet that is guided by

black currant, volcanic ash, pressed red

rose petal and licorice root. Less evident

are background notes of dark spice and

clove. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich.

This wine should evolve over the next ten

years. Drink date: 2017-2027. Score:

92

RED WINE

RIVETTO SERRALUNGA

BAROLO 2013

DOCG

TASTING NOTE: Fragrant blue flower,

rose, new leather, cake spice and wild

berry aromas set the tone on this classic

Barolo. On the full-bodied, savory palate,

solid tannins wrap around a juicy cherry-

raspberry core while notes of cinnamon

and clove add depth. Drink: 2019-2028.

TENUTA L’ILLUMINATA TEBAVIO

LA MORRA BAROLO 2007

DOCG

TASTING NOTE: This is generous and

juicy with lovely berry, meat and chocolate

character. Full body and round, chewy

tannins but ripe and pretty. Just starting

to open now. Score:
