CHÂTEAU GRAND-PUY-LACOSTE 2014
5e cru, AC Pauillac

507772 (XD) 750mL $125.00

TASTING NOTE: This red shows lots of redcurrants and fresh flowers on the nose. It's full-bodied with juicy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Needs three or four years to resolve some of the tannins. Beautiful cabernet character, but already a joy to taste. Score: 97 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 13, 2017)

CHÂTEAU LILIAN LADOUYS 2014
AC Saint-Estèphe

507764 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: Under the ownership of Jacky Lorenzetti, president of one of France's top rugby clubs, this estate is now performing impressively. The wine is finely structured with dark tannins and tight acidity and a hint of minerality. It is Merlot dominated, although it is the 40% Cabernet Sauvignon that brings out the black-currant fruitiness. Drink from 2022. Cellar Selection. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2017)

CHÂTEAU MONTROSE 2014
2e cru, AC Saint-Estèphe

507848 (XD) 750mL $274.00

TASTING NOTE: This is a very fine wine showing a new level of quality at Montrose. With its almost velvet tannins inside the intense black fruits, the wine is rich, smooth and generous. Blackberry and black-plum fruits are to the fore along with the fine acidity and great structure. A wine to age for decades, it will be ready to drink from 2027. Cellar Selection. Score: 97 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2017)

CHÂTEAU POTENSAC 2003
AC Médoc

532861 (XD) 750mL $82.00

TASTING NOTE: Managed by Jean-Hubert Delon of Léoville Las Cases, this is without equal in the Medoc appellation. It shows breeding, depth of flavor, beautifully crafted tannins and fine, rich fruit without the overripeness so characteristic of 2003. With its structure, acidity and delicious fruit, this will age as well as any wine from a more classy appellation. Cellar Selection. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, jamessuckling.com, May 1, 2006)

BACHELET-MONNOT MARANGES LA FUSSIÈRE 1ER CRU 2015
AC

436113 (XD) 750mL $48.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Maranges 1Er Cru la Fussieres, which is the usual blend of ten parcels from vines aged between 40 and 70 years, has a pleasant cold stone scent that percolates through the cranberry and raspberry fruit. There is a sense of control here. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, the 20% whole bunch fruit lending freshness and a slightly grainy texture towards the finish, which veers towards darker fruit, a potent spicy note lingering on the aftertaste. This will be well worth checking out once in bottle. Drink date: 2019-2030. Score: 89-91 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

MAISON LEROY BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2015
AC

735829 (XD) 750mL $98.00

Burgundy's most celebrated vigneronne, Madame Bize-Leroy, is a living legend, with a career spanning an astounding 62 vintages. Lalou, as she is affectionately known, began overseeing the family négociant business, Maison Leroy, in 1955 when her father turned his focus to running Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. There are few winemakers in the world with as celebrated an understanding of the nuances of terroir, and fewer still as capable of crafting wines that demonstrate such defined articulation. Her tenacity and relentless pursuit of quality permit no compromise. Her wines are a definitive declaration of the spirit of Burgundy.

DOMAINE CHANDON DE BRIAILLES CORTON LES BRESSANDES GRAND CRU 2014
AC

343251 (XD) 750mL $175.00

TASTING NOTE: This needs air to reveal the deep cherry and raspberry flavors. Pure, with mineral and earth details adding grace notes. Though balanced, this will require time for the structure and flavors to meld. Fine length. Best from 2020 through 2035. 367 cases made. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, April 30, 2017)

DOMAINE FAIVELEY BEAUNE CLOS DE L'ÉCU 1ER CRU 2014
Monopole, AC

69955 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: Fresh and succulent, with a texture enfolding the strawberry, cherry, spice and tobacco flavors. This is silky and refined despite the firm tannins girding the finish. Shows fine balance and a long aftertaste. Best from 2019 through 2030. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, April 30, 2017)

AURÉLIEN VERDET NUITS-ST.-GEORGES 2008
AC

524058 (XD) 750mL $62.00

TASTING NOTE: A picture of purity, this red offers sweet cherry, raspberry and spice flavors, matched to a silky texture and bright, well-integrated structure. Fine length. Best from 2012 through 2022. Score: 90 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, June 15, 2011)

MAISON LEROY SAINT-AUBIN ROUGE 1ER CRU 2003
AC

538199 (XD) 750mL $265.00

There are many, many things to be said about the one and only Madame Bize-Leroy - renowned for her Domaine wines, she also oversees a remarkable cellar dedicated to ageing wines for her négociant business, Maison Leroy. These wines represent some of the very best, most expressive and most characteristic wines selected from across Burgundy, aged and finished under her watchful eye and released only when they meet her exacting standards. Madame Bize-Leroy's unparalleled understanding of the soils and terroir of Burgundy and her ability to recognize which wines will best speak to the particular nuances of each growing season have made the wines of Maison Leroy among the most sought-after in Burgundy.

CHARLY NICOLLE MONT DE MILIEU CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2015
AP

540724 (XD) 750mL $37.00

TASTING NOTE: Sturdy, smoky lime nose with a touch of oak. Rich and bold on the palate, there is admirable weight of fruit and ample piquant acidity to drive the wine onto the long finish. A touch solid, but it seems balanced. Drinking Window: 2018-2025. Score: 92 (Stephen Brook, decanter.com, Dec. 31, 2016)

MAISON LEROY BOURGOGNE BLANC 2015
AC

467241 (XD) 750mL $100.00

Burgundy's most celebrated vigneronne, Madame Bize-Leroy, is a living legend, with a career spanning an astounding 62 vintages. Lalou, as she is affectionately known, began overseeing the family négociant business, Maison Leroy, in 1955 when her father turned his focus to running Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. DOMAINE BILLAUD-SIMON LES BLANCHOTS VIEILLES VIGNE CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2014
AC

401984 (XD) 750mL $126.00

TASTING NOTE: (25% raised in very old barrels): Pale bright yellow. Compelling oyster-shell minerality combines beautifully with a floral element on the inviting nose, which shows little sign of oak. Wonderfully rich, silky and elegant; a highly concentrated wine with outstanding finesse of texture and captivating inner-mouth aromatic character. Builds slowly and lingers long on the fine-grained, palate-staining back end. Consistent from start to finish. From 2015 on, there will be just two barrels of this wine, one made of oak and the other of stainless steel. Score: 94 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, July 2016)

JOSEPH FAIVELEY PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 2014
AC

532911 (XD) 750mL $88.00

TASTING NOTE: Offering a mix of lemon drop, butterscotch, peach and melon flavors, this white is fresh and harmonious. The lingering aftertaste echoes citrus and spice details. Drink now through 2023. Score: 90 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, 2017)

OLIVIER LEFLAIVE PERNAND-VERGELESSES 2014
AC

524066 (XD) 750mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: This is rich and intense, featuring a beam of lemon tart flavors graced by mineral and pastry accents. Creamy in texture midpalate and finishing gracefully, with a fresh blend of fruit, spice and stone. Drink now through 2024. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, March 31, 2017)

DOMAINE TOUR SAINT MICHEL FEMINESSANCE CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015
AC

469106 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Feminessance is always the most modern-styled red from Tour Saint Michel, yet it's also the most pure, complete and balanced. Made from an even split of Grenache and Syrah, aged in new and used barrels, it has a full-bodied, seamless and impeccably put together profile to go with gorgeous notes of crème de cassis, black raspberries, crushed flowers, licorice and hints of oak. It has integrated acidity and while it has plenty of fruit, it's elegant and finesse driven. Count me as a fan and it will have 15-20 years of longevity. Score: 92-94+ (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

GABRIEL MEFFRE LAURUS SAINT-JOSEPH 2015
AC

532713 (XD) 750mL $35.00

TASTING NOTE: Another outstanding-looking barrel sample is the 2015 St Joseph Laurus, which comes from the northern part of St Joseph around the village of Malleval. It's 100% Syrah that was brought up all in barrels, and ... should be a smoking value. Violets, graphite, plums, hoisin sauce and plenty of spice emerge from this pretty, elegant, perfumed St Joseph that has ripe, yet notable tannin on the finish. Score: 91-93 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

CAVE SAINT-DESIRAT TRADITION CONDRIEU 2015
AC

484121 (XD) 750mL $55.00

Condrieu is an exceptional white wine crafted from Viognier. Produced in tiny amounts, it is remarkable for its ability to demonstrate aromatic delicacy with considerable texture and body. This one is sourced from south- and southeast-facing vines planted in granite soils.

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Condrieu Tradition from Cave Saint Desirat is clean and focused, with building richness coming through on the palate. Giving up classic peach and ripe citrus, it's a textbook, incredibly well-made Condrieu that stays fresh and lively in a vintage that leans towards the heavier, richer end of the spectrum. Drink date: 2016-2019. Score: 89 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

DOMAINE RAYMOND USSEGLIO PURE ROUSSANNE CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE BLANC 2015
AC

532739 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: I was blown away by the 100% Roussanne 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Pure Roussanne Blanc, and unfortunately, there's only 600 cases made. Vibrant, taut and mineral-driven, with the same mouthwatering salinity found in the base white cuvée, this beauty is medium to full-bodied, impeccably balanced and layered, with vibrant, yet perfectly integrated acidity. It needs 6-12 months in bottle and will drink nicely for 2-4 years, and can keep for decades if you're so inclined. Score: 95 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

CAVE DE TURCKHEIM HENGST RIESLING 2012
AC Alsace Grand Cru

540021 (XD) 750mL $38.00

TASTING NOTE: Lifted hints of chamomile and apple peel rise straight from the glass. The palate has the same streamlined citrus focus and just homes in on that sleek dry apple freshness that seem[s] to be a dynamic force at the center of this wine. The flavors are concentrated and totally dominated by utter lemon freshness, tart and vivid to the last. Lovely now but with further potential. Drink now through 2030. Score: 93 (Anne Krebiehl, MW, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2017)

HURÉ FRÈRES L'INATTENDUE BLANC DE BLANCS EXTRA BRUT 2011
AC

532887 (XD) 750mL $66.00

TASTING NOTE: Produced from two parcels on the Montagne de Reims, this dry yet soft wine is ripe and richly fruity. Still young, its minerality and bright fruitiness are firmly intact. It will be a delicious Champagne as it matures. Drink from 2019. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2017)

COULY-DUTHEIL LES CHANTEAUX CHINON 2015
AC

532705 (XD) 750mL $26.00

TASTING NOTE: Enticing aromas of ripe pear, chalk and minerals. The flavours show the same confidence with a touch of ginger spice and honey in a supple, energetic, style with stony depth. An engaging wine full of charm and seductive balance. Drink: 2017-2020. Score: 93 (decanter.com, Jan. 18, 2017)

HUCHET MONNIÈRES-SAINT-FIACRE MUSCADET SÈVRE ET MAINE 2013
AC

532747 (XD) 750mL $26.00

TASTING NOTE: From old vines on gneiss, the pale yellow colored 2013 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Monnières-Saint-Fiacre offers a very clear and reductive nose with spicy-mineral, herbal and white fruit flavors. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, this is an elegant, mineral and persistent wine with a tight structure, clear fruit flavors and a long and refreshing finish with grip. Still young but very promising. Drink date: 2018-2024. Score: 91 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

SELBACH-OSTER GRAACHER DOMPROBST FEINHERB RIESLING SPÄTLESE 2014
Qualitätswein

532721 (M) 750mL $36.00

TASTING NOTE: Predominantly from a 90-year-old plot and another that was re-planted in 1984, the 2014 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese Feinherb Alte Reben is made from berries that were as big as peas and colored like copper. Intense and concentrated, yet also with very fine fruit and pip fruit aromas on the nose, this 11% bottling is round and silky textured on the palate, nicely concentrated and almost creamy; it is very mineral and long, and finishes with great finesse and stimulating salinity. This is a great and tension-filled Riesling of great elegance, finesse and intensity. A beauty and one of my favorites of the 2014 vintage. Score: 93 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

MACARICO ALTO VULTURE AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE 2013
DOC

480079 (XD) 750mL $36.00

TASTING NOTE: Very balanced and clean, the 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Alto Vulture Macarico is a darkly saturated and rich wine to pair with stewed or barbecued meats. It offers dense concentration and an important bouquet that is guided by black currant, volcanic ash, pressed red rose petal and licorice root. Less evident are background notes of dark spice and clove. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich. This wine should evolve over the next ten years. Drink date: 2017-2027. Score: 92 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

RIVETTO SERRALUNGA BAROLO 2013
DOCG

276014 (XD) 750mL $78.00

TASTING NOTE: Fragrant blue flower, rose, new leather, cake spice and wild berry aromas set the tone on this classic Barolo. On the full-bodied, savory palate, solid tannins wrap around a juicy cherry-raspberry core while notes of cinnamon and clove add depth. Drink: 2019-2028. Score: 93 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2017)

478511 (XD) 750mL $55.00

TASTING NOTE: This is generous and juicy with lovely berry, meat and chocolate character. Full body and round, chewy tannins but ripe and pretty. Just starting to open now. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 16, 2014)

PLANETA 2015
DOC Etna

538082 (XD) 750mL $30.00

Monica Larner called this a "... subtle and easygoing wine that ... flaunts its primary fruit, its fresh acidity and its firm but not astringent mouthfeel ..." and suggested a drinking window of 2017-2020. (robertparker.com, Aug. 31, 2017)

TASTING NOTE: Lots of blue fruits with raspberry and lemon character. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Crisp and lively. Textbook Etna. Drink now. Score: 92 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 21, 2016)

SOFFOCONE DI VINCIGLIATA 2014
IGT Toscana

387605 (XD) 750mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: A silky and refined red with plum, berry and cherry character. Medium body and a fresh finish. Shows finesse and beauty. Lively acidity. Best ever. All the Testamatta and Colore is declassified into this. Wow. Drink or hold. Score: 94 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, July 19, 2016)

LA MASSA GIORGIO PRIMO 2013
IGT Toscana

20883 (XD) 750mL $135.00

TASTING NOTE: This is a truly sumptuous wine that stands as a tall testament to the winemaking talents of Giampaolo Motta, his vision for interpreting this vintage and his specific vineyard site in Panzano in Chianti. This standout wine brings Fattoria la Massa to a new level of accomplishment and opens an exciting new chapter of possibility. The 2013 Giorgio Primo (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot) is dark and impenetrable on first impact. The aromas accelerate slowly and grow evenly in power and intensity after a few quick swirls of the glass. The bouquet peels back with dark fruit aromas, baking spice and Mediterranean herb. The effect is seamless and smooth. A velvety texture is accented by full-bodied richness and just enough freshness to keep the palate energized. And, of course, this is just the beginning of a long cellar life. Drink date: 2017-2035. Score: 97 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

TOLAINI MONTEBELLO GRAN SELEZIONE CHIANTI CLASSICO 2013
DOCG

466607 (XD) 750mL $46.00

TASTING NOTE: A textbook Chianti Classico with dried cherry and citrus character. Medium body, light tannins and a bright and fruity finish. Firm and silky. Shows the character of its zone. Drink now but better in 2018. Score: 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Aug. 21, 2016)

BELLARIA ASSUNTO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

206854 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: Complex aromas of berries, cherries, leaves and wet earth. Full-bodied, layered and rich with fantastic tannin structure and intensity. Better in 2019 but already delicious to taste. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 19, 2017)

FOSSACOLLE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

309880 (D) 750mL $68.00

TASTING NOTE: Boasting a dark and rich color, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is a youthful and bright expression that still has a ways to go in terms of its evolution. The wine shows loads of primary fruit at the moment with dark fruit, cherry and black currant at the front line. The Brunello offers smoothness and softness on the palate but you also get a bright and tangy touch of that Sangiovese acidity that reminds you of the appellation's most valuable assets. Drink date: 2017-2026. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

SAN FELICE VIGORELLO 2011
IGT Toscana

726463 (XD) 750mL $64.00

TASTING NOTE: Shows fine depth, featuring spice, smoke, blackberry and plum flavors. Balanced on the firm side, with polished tannins and a lingering aftertaste. Best from 2017 through 2025. Score: 92 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Sept. 30, 2015)

CA' LA BIONDA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2012
DOC

539023 (XD) 750mL $66.00

TASTING NOTE: Dark ruby with a hint of an amber rim. Reticent but deep aromas and flavors of flint, plums, cassis and cocoa. A brooding, powerful wine with young, chewy but noble tannins. Finishes long with persistent notes of espresso and lavender. Lacks a little nuance to be truly memorable, but this well balanced, suave wine is a remarkable achievement in 2012. (16% alcohol). Drinking window: 2018-2029. Score: 92 (Ian D'Agata, vinous.com, May 2017)

GIUSEPPE QUINTARELLI AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2007
DOC

402149 (D) 750mL $445.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico was bottled seven months before I tasted it. Grapes undergo a four-month appassimento for extra concentration and intensity. Despite this heavy-handed winemaking technique (in which the clusters lose up to 30% of their water mass in the air-drying process), this is a surprisingly delicate and nuanced wine. The aging process has definitely broken down and assimilated any of the hard edges that come from dried grapes. In its wake, the wine is polished and tight with a long, silky texture. Drink date: 2019-2035. Score: 96 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, May 31, 2017)

GIUSEPPE QUINTARELLI RECIOTO DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2004
DOC

722967 (S) 375mL $214.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2004 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico (375-milliliter) opens to slightly musky aromas of moist earth and button mushroom with dried cherry and blackberry preserves at the back. This is a long and silky expression. Winemaking reflects the same process used to make Amarone, only the fermentation is blocked to preserve some of that bitter-sweetness. The name Recioto comes from the local dialect word for "ears" (reccie) because the wine is made with the shoulders of the grape clusters that tend to ripen first and have more residual sugar as a result. The finish imparts tarry licorice, dried fruit and bitter chocolate. The drinking window here is wide open for sure. Drink date: 2018-2045. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, May 31, 2017)

NINO FRANCO GRAVE DI STECCA BRUT PROSECCO 2012
DOC

422758 (D) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: Made with 100% Glera grown inside a walled vineyard, this stunning wine boasts unusual depth and structure. It delivers aromas and flavors of ripe yellow apple, pear, lemon drop, chopped sage and a ginger note while the foaming, silky mousse lends it a creamy, elegant texture. A recent vertical tasting back to 2007 proves this wine can develop more complexity after several years in the cellar. Cellar Selection. Score: 93 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 1, 2015)

HERDADE DE SÃO MIGUEL RESERVA 2014
DO Alentejo

538546 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: The flagship wine of the São Miguel estate, this impresses with its dense tannins and opulent black fruits. It's fermented in open lagares and aged 18 months in wood. While its concentration and power are obvious, its elegance is surprising. Structured to age, this will be best from 2020. Cellar Selection. Score: 94 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, May 1, 2017)

CARODORUM SELECCIÓN ESPECIAL RESERVA 2012
DO Toro

535443 (XD) 750mL $48.00

TASTING NOTE: Ripe aromas of fig, blackberry and cassis are softened and sweetened by a slathering of oaky chocolate and vanilla. This is full, layered, intense and cushioned on the palate, with rich flavors of chocolaty black fruits and baking spices. A toasty, everlasting finish is heady but ideally balanced. Drink through 2023. Editors' Choice. Score: 96 (Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, July 1, 2017)

URBINA GRAN RESERVA ESPECIAL 1994
DOCa Rioja

355743 (XD) 750mL $52.00

TASTING NOTE: The 1994 Gran Reserva Especial (from a great vintage) is medium ruby colored with a lovely bouquet of cherry blossom, earth notes, spice box, leather, black cherry, and plum. On the palate it is multifaceted, elegant, concentrated, impeccably balanced, and holding strong. It should drink nicely for another 10-15 years if not longer. Drink 2010-2025. Score: 92 (Jay Miller, robertparker.com, April 2010)

CLONAKILLA O'RIADA SHIRAZ 2015
Canberra District

303248 (XD) 750mL $55.00

TASTING NOTE: A strikingly fragrant and perfumed effort from Clonakilla, this wine captures you instantaneously. It is superbly constructed, aromatically fragrant, perfumed and darkly fruited; on the palate spice, superfine tannins and then the finish that just lingers and expands. Drink By: 2040. Score: 97 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Oct. 6, 2016)

BY FARR FARRSIDE PINOT NOIR 2014
Geelong, Victoria

392829 (XD) 750mL $85.00

TASTING NOTE: Clones 114, 115, 667 and MV6, hand-picked and sorted, 60-70% destemmed, 4 days cold soak, wild-fermented, pigeaged 2-3 times daily, matured for 18 months in French oak (50-60% new). Good colour; the bouquet, while complex, is the calm before the storm of the palate, which strikes the second the wine enters the mouth, and doesn't abate until long after the wine has gone from the glass. Great fusion of plum/black cherry fruit with a savoury carpet of spices and sweet earth. Drink By: 2029. Special Value. Score: 98 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 1, 2017)

LANE VINEYARD REUNION SINGLE VINEYARD SHIRAZ 2014
Adelaide Hills

533893 (XD) 750mL $42.00

TASTING NOTE: 5% whole bunches, 95% destemmed, 30% held on skins for 7 weeks extended maceration post-ferment, matured French oak ranging from barriques to demi-muids (35% new) for 16 months. An exercise in elegance from start to finish. There is an airy lightness to the way the wine reaches into every corner of the mouth in the same fashion as the fragrance of the bouquet. Score: 95 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 1, 2017)

PENFOLDS ST. HENRI SHIRAZ 2014
South Australia

510875 (XD) 750mL $120.00

From the iconic Penfolds, St. Henri is a masterclass in South Australian winemaking. It's a multi-district blend with significant contributions from Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, Robe and Bordertown. First produced in 1953 and first commercially available in 1957, it consistently garners top reviews; expect similar excellence from this newest bottling.

CLAIRAULT ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Margaret River

536730 (XD) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: Dark and cedary, with cola and berry fruit. Really lovely balance and purity, with complex graphite tones, an underlying sweetness, succulent blueberry fruit and which chocolate oak. Superb! Score: 97 (Justin Knock, MW, Decanter, Jan. 2017)

BROKENWOOD ILR RESERVE SEMILLON 2011
Hunter Valley

227645 (XD) 750mL $68.00

TASTING NOTE: When I first tasted this wine in Oct '15 I made this note: Has the green tinge to its colour that always excites me. It has a lovely combination of lemongrass freshness with perfect first stage development of sweet fruit and incipient honey (which will take years to fully evolve). In the meantime, citrus rules the roost, allied with mouthwatering acidity. Now 15 months down the track, the honey is a little more obvious, but the all-important acidity remains the spine of the wine, and always will. Drink by: 2031. Score: 97 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, March 1, 2017)

VILLA MARIA SINGLE VINEYARD SOUTHERN CLAYS PINOT NOIR 2014
Marlborough

466060 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: Exciting bouquet - immensely floral with wild flowers, wild red berries, warm summer air and intensely mineral. Fresh, crunchy, juicy palate, dry stone, dusty clay, abundant tannins, complex, long finish. Drink: 2017-2025. Score: 95 (Decanter, Dec. 2015)

LAPOSTOLLE LE PETIT CLOS RED BLEND 2014
Colchagua Valley

539791 (XD) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 'Le Petit Clos' is a simply fascinating wine composed of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carmenére, 28% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot which spent 18 months in new 225L French oak for 8 months, followed by an additional 18 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels and vats. While its name suggests this may be something "petit", that couldn't be further from the case for this majestic red, as it bursts opens with profound aromas of blackberries and dark currants woven together with spices, cedar, spring floral, chocolate, roasted coffee and hints of loamy notes. This palate is remarkably dense and concentrated, with plush layers of ripe dark fruits, spices and cedar notes building on the long multidimensional finish. A simply incredible wine, which is simply delicious now, yet possesses the potential to thrive in the cellar for many years. (Best 2017-2029). Score: 94 (Joe D'Angelo, internationalwinereport.com, Sept. 2017)

CLOS PEGASE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Napa Valley

268235 (XD) 750mL $75.00

Founded in 1983, Clos Pegase has long been a go-to producer for expertly crafted, classically styled Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. This one is from the highly regarded 2014 vintage. Antonio Galloni called Napa's 2014s "... aromatically expressive, rich and energetic, with striking balance and plenty of potential" (vinous.com, June 2015). William Kelley of Decanter said the 2014 Cabernets show "... supple, dark fruit ... depth and energy ..." and called them "... drinkable, charming wines ..." (decanter.com, June 24, 2016).

HARTFORD COURT LAND'S EDGE VINEYARDS PINOT NOIR 2014
Sonoma Coast

919712 (XD) 750mL $89.00

TASTING NOTE: The only 2014 tasted was the early-bottled 2014 Pinot Noir Land's Edge Vineyards, which come from a vineyard four miles from the Pacific Ocean. Aged in 32% new French oak, the wine displays raspberry and blueberry fruit, damp earth, fresh porcini mushrooms and plenty of minerality. This is a juicy, tightly knit, but concentrated and promising Pinot Noir that has that forward fruit of this vintage well displayed. Drink Date: 2015-2023. Score: 92 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2015)

SEGHESIO ROCKPILE ZINFANDEL 2014
Rockpile

200857 (XD) 750mL $59.00

TASTING NOTE: Plump fruit meets lively acidity and good structure. Floral cherry, river stone and spiced cinnamon aromas open to rich, sleekly complex raspberry and tarragon flavors. Drink now through 2026. Score: 93 (Tim Fish, winespectator.com, May 31, 2017)

TABLAS CREEK ESPRIT DE TABLAS 2014
Paso Robles

735654 (XD) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: One of the few times where there's almost as much Grenache in the blend as Mourvedre (Jason commented that the Grenache was just that good), the ruby colored 2014 Esprit de Tablas is made from 40% Mourvedre, 35% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the rest Counoise, and was aged mostly in foudre. It reveals solid aromatics of garrigue, black raspberries, pepper and violets to go with a medium to full-bodied, bright, fresh style on the palate. Again, there's some chewy tannin present, yet I suspect they'll round into form once in bottle. Score: 91-93 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

BRANDLIN ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Mount Veeder

340513 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: A big, powerful wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is brawny and also a bit rough around the edges, but it also has more than enough depth to compensate for some of those shortcomings. Dark red cherry, tobacco, savory herbs, mint and anise are some of the signatures. This powerful, explosive Cabernet is long on both personality and potential. Drink: 2017-2028. Score: 92 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

SBRAGIA MONTE ROSSO VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Sonoma County

291054 (XD) 750mL $97.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep garnet-black in color, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso has a powerful, earth and meat-led nose, revealing notes of black loam, chargrill and salami over a core of crème de cassis, Chinese five spice, prunes, incense and dark chocolate with a waft of menthol. The concentrated, full-bodied palate delivers rich, opulent black fruit preserves and exotic spice flavors, supported by a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins and finishing with menthol and spice layers. Drink date: 2018-2030. Score: 93+ (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

MAYACAMAS CHARDONNAY 2015
Mount Veeder

457556 (XD) 750mL $97.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Chardonnay emerges from dry-farmed, old vines on the property. In this vintage, the Chardonnay is surprisingly rich and unctuous yet it also retains its mid-weight feel. Orchard fruit, white flowers and mint, along with slightly tropical overtones, give the 2015 much of its distinctive personality. Readers who can find the 2015 should plan on cellaring it for at least a few years, as the wine needs time to shed its baby fat. Tasted again after the reds, with a good 30 minutes in the glass, the Chardonnay is flat-out gorgeous. About 80% of the wine spent time in larger foudres, which likely helped it retain a measure of freshness. Drinking window: 2018-2030. Score: 95 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Dec. 2016)

GRAHAM'S VINTAGE PORT 2000
DOP

535427 (S) 375mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of dried fruits, raisins and Christmas cake. Some chocolate undertones too, plus licorice and wet earth. Full body, medium sweet with gorgeous depth and intensity of fruit. So long and beautiful. What an amazing finish already. So sexy. Drink or hold. But this will go on for decades. Score: 98 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 17, 2015)

QUINTA DA DEVESA 40-YEAR-OLD TAWNY PORT
DOP

538710 (S) 750mL $154.00

TASTING NOTE: The 40-Year Old Port (technically +40, although that would have buggered up the search engine) has a clear, deep mahogany color, although there [is] a little more reddishness here compared to the 30-Year Old. The nose is more volatile than the 30-Year Old - this is feisty and boisterous and refuses to act its age. I kind of like that and it soon calms down to offer aromas of balsam, cloves, shaved ginger, fig and marjoram. The palate is lively and bright with the right amount of VA to give it a kick without unbalancing the layers of spicy honeyed fruit. Nutmeg, orange rind, black pepper, tamarind and dried apricots toward the finish somehow evoke images of Morocco. Wonderful! Score: 93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2014)
