LA DAME DE BOÜARD 2016
AC Montagne-Saint Émilion

520452 (XD) 750mL $30.00

TASTING NOTE: A tight and fruity red with lots of wet earth and spices. Medium body and a tight center palate. Flavorful finish. New wine from Boüard family of Angelus. [Second] wine of Clos de Boüard. Score: 92-93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, April 4, 2017)

CHÂTEAU GRAND-PUY-LACOSTE 2012
5e cru, AC Pauillac

594648 (XD) 750mL $108.00

TASTING NOTE: Well-built, with a charcoal frame that melds nicely with steeped currant, blackberry paste and dark plum fruit flavors. The long finish is riveted to a graphite underpinning. Remarkably dense, but without the austere twinge of the vintage. Best from 2018 through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. Score: 93 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2015)

CHÂTEAU LES ORMES DE PEZ 2012
AC Saint-Estèphe

347575 (XD) 750mL $62.00

TASTING NOTE: Barrel sample. This powerful wine is dense with rich tannins and black fruits that are balanced. Full and concentrated, it's a wine with great potential. Score: 94 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, April 11, 2013)

CHÂTEAU CALON-SÉGUR 2010
3e cru, AC Saint Estèphe

545079 (XD) 750mL $310.00

TASTING NOTE: This is an architectural wine, very classical in its structure like so many of the top wines of 2010. It's powered by ripe tannins and beautiful black currant fruits. While the wine is gorgeously ripe, it also has a powerful dark and structured character. For long-term aging. Cellar Selection. Rated #14 in the 2013 Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Cellar Selections. Score: 97 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, May 1, 2013)

CHÂTEAU PALMER ALTER EGO 2010
AC Margaux

596338 (XD) 750mL $194.00

TASTING NOTE: Offers a tarry frame melded to a core of plum sauce, tobacco and dark currant preserves. Fleshy and broad, with a good charcoal spine for freshness. Approachable now, but should improve with cellaring. Best from 2014 through 2025. Score: 92 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2013)

CHÂTEAU LA LAGUNE 2008
3e cru, AC Haut-Médoc

545137 (XD) 750mL $152.00

TASTING NOTE: One of the most beautiful wines of the vintage, the dark ruby/purple-colored La Lagune exhibits sweet cassis, camphor, truffle and white chocolate notes presented in a dense, medium to full-bodied, silky textured personality. Filled with purity, finesse, elegance and authoritative flavor intensity, this 2008 is already drinkable and should continue to evolve for 15+ years. Drink date: 2011-2026. Score: 93 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, May 1, 2011)

BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES LES CAILLES 1ER CRU 2015
AC

652057 (XD) 750mL $140.00

TASTING NOTE: Medium red-ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, licorice and crushed rock. Compellingly sweet and fine-grained but with penetrating rocky minerality to its crunchy dark berry flavors. Reminded me of biting into a blueberry tart! The smooth but firm, slowly building finish displays outstanding purity and juiciness. This beauty has the sheer density of material to make its tannins virtually disappear. But I would still want to cellar this premier cru for at least five or six years. Score: 92-94 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, Jan. 2017)

MARCHAND-TAWSE VOSNE-ROMANÉE 2015
AC

484188 (XD) 750mL $92.00

TASTING NOTE: (Mainly from vines on the Nuits-Saint-Georges side of the village; made with 15% whole clusters): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of black raspberry and maraschino cherry are lifted by a floral note. Sweet and supple on the palate, showing lovely fat but also a serious tannic spine to its dark cherry and spice flavors. This village offering is nicely balanced, firm and long. Score: 88-91 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, Jan. 2017)

DOMAINE JESSIAUME AUXEY-DURESSES LES ECUSSAUX 1ER CRU 2014
AC

535781 (XD) 750mL $58.00

TASTING NOTE: From an east-southeast-facing slope of marl and limestone, this wine builds on its rocky tannic impression with a lasting fragrance of fruity mushrooms, violets and clean raspberry scents. It's dark and lush, the cushioned texture of the fruit integrated into the firm mineral feel of the tannins. Accessible now, this should gain interesting dimensions with age. Wine & Spirits Year's Best Red Burgundy. Score: 92 (wineandspiritsmagazine.com, Oct. 2016)

LOUIS JADOT VOLNAY EN L'ORMEAU 1ER CRU 2014
AC

540187 (XD) 750mL $98.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Volnay 1er Cru en l'Ormeau has a slight savory edge on the nose: vibrant red berry fruit, a hint of cured meat perhaps, almost ferrous. The palate is supple on the entry with a seductive roundness, fine tannins (perhaps finer than the Santenots) with a very cohesive and convincing, sorbet-fresh finish. What a gorgeous Volnay! This comes highly recommended. Drink date: 2017-2032. Score: 91-93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

POUSSE D'OR CLOS DE LA ROCHE GRAND CRU 2014
AC

535799 (XD) 750mL $434.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, from 0.32 hectares of vines planted in 1950 and 1951, has a much more generous bouquet compared to the Chambolle-Amoureuses, tensile red cherry and raspberry coulis scents, wet limestone and just a hint of cassis in the background. It is very Clos de la Roche, to put it prosaically. The palate is very harmonious, silky smooth and elegant. There is fine weight in the mouth, though this is more about tension and elegance, with a gorgeous, sensual, satin-like touch to the finish. This could become one of the best wines from this vineyard. Drink date: 2019-2045. Score: 94-96 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

DOMAINE A.-F. GROS VOSNE-ROMANÉE AUX RÉAS 2013
AC

536664 (XD) 750mL $134.00

TASTING NOTE: This is the ripest of the three Vosne villages wines yet it retains good freshness and spiciness that adds appeal to the red and dark berry fruit aromas that are trimmed in notes of sandalwood. There is excellent size, weight and mid-palate concentration to the velvety and delicious finish that possesses fine length on the balanced finish. This should drink well both young and with 6 to 8 years of age on it. Drink: 2020+. Outstanding Top Value. Score: 89-91 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, April 15, 2015)

CHARTRON ET TRÉBUCHET MEURSAULT 2015
AC

226407 (XD) 750mL $92.00

Chartron et Trébuchet was founded in 1984, but the company's roots in Burgundy run deeper still - Domaine Jean Chartron has owned premier and grand cru sites in Burgundy since 1859. The wines of Meursault are some of the most impressive in Burgundy. These powerful, aromatic, rich Chardonnays with their notes of nuts, butter, toast, vanilla and mineral are lush declarations of Burgundy's mastery of the grape.

JEAN-MARC BROCARD BUTTEAUX CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2015
AC

294165 (XD) 750mL $58.00

TASTING NOTE: Ripe and creamy, this white displays lemon cake and white peach flavors, with a stony undertow. Harmonious and long on the finish. Lively acidity keeps this focused and clean. Drink now through 2023. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Nov. 15, 2016)

REMOISSENET PÈRE & FILS PERNAND-VERGELESSES BLANC 2015
AC

535708 (XD) 750mL $46.00

Remoissenet Père & Fils was founded in 1877. Besides its regular releases, the estate also makes a few rare back vintage wines - highly sought-after collectors' items - from the cellar available each year. The white wines of Pernand-Vergelesses are distinguished by their ripe apple and toasted nut tones. Like all great Burgundy whites, they also possess impressive acidity and refined minerality. The great advantage to consumers is that, despite their quality, the wines of Pernand-Vergelesses are not among the most well-known Burgundies, which means they often offer amazing value.

DOMAINE DE VILLAINE BOURGOGNE LES CLOUS AIMÉ CÔTE CHALONNAISE 2014
AC

545640 (XD) 750mL $42.00

This is sourced from a number of south-facing sites planted primarily in limestone soils that impart a pure underlying minerality and give the wine a drinking window of 5-7 years. Allen Meadows described this wine as follows: "A pretty, cool and airy nose is composed by notes of pear, apple and discreet citrus nuances. There is good richness to the very round, generous and delicious flavors that possess fine vibrancy on the saline, refreshing and highly persistent finale. This is excellent for its level and recommended (burghound.com, Oct. 8, 2016)."

JEAN DAUVISSAT LES PREUSES CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2012
AC

453159 (XD) 750mL $96.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses has a very precise granite, smoke and gunflint bouquet that is reserved but compelling. The palate is extremely well-balanced with perfectly judged acidity that lends this Les Preuses a sense of weightlessness, then turns volte-face to offer a lovely prickle of ginger on the finish. Super-bon (as they say in France). Drink now-2018. Score: 92-94 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2014)

JEAN-LUC COLOMBO TERRES BRÛLÉES CORNAS 2015
AC

448837 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: Plush in feel, with layers of dark fig, blueberry and blackberry reduction leading the way, inlaid with light charcoal and bay leaf accents that emerge steadily through the finish. Ends with a tug of tar. Best from 2020 through 2035. Ranked #64 in the 2017 Wine Spectator Top 100. Score: 94 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2017)

DOMAINE DU VIEUX TÉLÉGRAPHE LA CRAU CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2014
AC

951475 (XD) 750mL $110.00

TASTING NOTE: 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault. Vivid ruby. Intense red and dark berry aromas are complemented by peppery spice, garrigue and floral pastille notes. Sappy and precise on the palate, offering concentrated, vivacious black raspberry, cherry cola and spicecake flavors. Supple, harmonious tannins build steadily on the very long, seamless finish, which leaves behind lavender and juicy dark berry notes. Score: 91-93 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, April 2016)

DOMAINE DU COULET BILLES NOIRES CORNAS 2012
AC

109165 (XD) 750mL $118.00

TASTING NOTE: Coming from the upper part of Cornas and seeing 24 months in 400-500 Liter barrels (none new), the 2012 Cornas Domaine du Coulet Billes Noires is an incredible effort that's up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Its inky purple color is followed by an awesome bouquet of cassis, bacon fat, olive, peppered meat and iron, with additional minerality coming through with air. Classic in every way, with full-bodied richness, stunning purity and integrated acidity, it's a big, brooding and concentrated effort that's reasonably approachable now due to its fruit and texture, yet won't hit prime time until 6-7 years after the vintage and will have two decades of longevity. Drink date: 2020-2040. Score: 96 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Dec. 29, 2014)

DOMAINE PIERRE GAILLARD CONDRIEU 2015
AC

540344 (XD) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: Features an unctuous backdrop to the peach, bitter almond and anise flavors, but remains energetic and bright overall, with honeysuckle and mirabelle plum notes providing lift throughout. Drink now through 2019. Score: 93 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, Dec. 15, 2016)

E. GUIGAL EX-VOTO ERMITAGE BLANC 2013
AC

54148 (XD) 750mL $305.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc is a head-turner that offers sensational notes of buttered stone fruits, charcoal, toasted bread, toasted nuts and freshly crushed rocks. Take Marsanne and filter it through a bed of rocks, and you'd have an idea of what this beauty tastes like. Full-bodied, thick, unctuous and concentrated, it's certainly one of the most exciting dry whites coming from the Northern Rhône Valley today. Drink date: 2016-2024. DOMAINE DIRLER-CADÉ CUVÉE HEISSE WANNE KESSLER RIESLING 2015
AC Alsace Grand Cru

540153 (XD) 750mL $64.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Riesling Grand Cru Kessler Cuvée H. W. (Heisse Wanne) opens with a lovely, clear and pure bouquet of perfectly ripe Riesling flavors intermixed with crushed stone aromas. The wine is very precise and well defined, and is surely Dirler's greatest Riesling again, and in 2015 that's nothing less than a mystery. From almost 60-year-old vines on red sandstone soils in a fully south-facing vineyard, and from the dry and hot 2015 vintage, this wine is so subtle and smoky that you could think your neighbor is smoking a joint. Full-bodied, dry and piquant, this is a great and coolish terroir wine with fascinating precision, piquancy and lingering salinity. Riesling lovers shouldn't miss it! Picked 21 September. The wine has 14.08% alcohol. Drink date: 2020-2040. Score: 97 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

CRISTAL BRUT CHAMPAGNE 2007
AC

350173 (XD) 1500mL $790.00

TASTING NOTE: Long-time Chef de Caves Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon has produced yet another in a string of superb Champagnes with the 2007 Cristal. Rich, powerful and enveloping, the 2007 takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. The aromatics alone are captivating, but then the wine opens on the palate, revealing layer after layer of flavor to match a multi-dimensional, kaleidoscopic personality that will leave Champagne lovers weak at the knees. The 2007 is 58% Pinot Noir and 42% Chardonnay, which is to say a bit more Chardonnay-leaning than is the norm. The 2007 is striking today, but it should also age effortlessly for several decades. It is also without question one of the very finest new releases of the year. Drinking window: 2015-2037. Score: 97+ (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, July 2015)

BOLLINGER R.D. EXTRA BRUT CHAMPAGNE 2002
AC

933606 (XD) 750mL $291.00

TASTING NOTE: It's striking that [this] is as fresh as it is given the ten years in the cellars. It has a fine citrus nose with plenty of lemons, grapefruit and yellow chalky notes, not to mention some lighter floral elements. The palate is super dry (dosage at 3-4g), and there's a silky, sherbet-like texture that makes this smooth fine and long. The citrus flavors give way to the surging acidity and the finish twists very slowly through to lightly toasted cashew nuts mingled with complex fruit and citrus flavors. Disgorged October 22, 2013. DOMAINE DE SAVAGNY VIN JAUNE 2010
AC Château-Chalon

540237 (XD) 620mL $55.00

The mountainous Jura region is found nestled between Burgundy and Switzerland. The wines of the Jura are rarely available outside of the region itself, which makes them particularly interesting. Winemaking here dates to at least 80 BCE, and though by the end of the 19th century the region was known mostly for red wines, it is best known today for white wines. Jura's soils are primarily shale, limestone and clay, and Savagnin Blancs, such as this one, perform best in the region's grey shale soils. The Château-Chalon area produces the finest examples of the region's signature wine, Vin Jaune (yellow wine). These wines are barrel aged for several years before release. Flor, the same yeast so essential to the production of Sherry, is permitted to develop. This film of yeast is responsible for the development of the style's rich, oxidative, nutty flavours. These are wines that can be aged for up to a century. If a vintage doesn't meet the standards that have been set for the area, the wines will be declassified and sold as Côtes de Jura.

ALPHONSE MELLOT EDMOND SANCERRE 2014
AC

535757 (XD) 750mL $98.00

TASTING NOTE: From almost 100-year-old vines on Kimmeridgian marl and limestone soils, the 2014 Sancerre Edmond displays a very deep and mineral nose with herbal and stony f[l]avors. Extremely pure and mineral on the palate, this is a tightly woven, firm and mineral wine that is still restrained, but wow, what a combination of power and finesse! The finish is endlessly salty but also reveals that this wine is still bloody young. Drink date: 2019-2030. Score: 96 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

CLOS DU PAPILLON SAVENNIÈRES 2012

GÉRARD BERTRAND CLOS D'ORA LA LIVINIÈRE MINERVOIS 2014
AC

540195 (XD) 750mL $260.00

Gérard Bertrand began working with Clos d'Ora 1997 and only released the first wines (from the 2012 vintage) in 2014, when he felt that he was truly expressing the terroir of this remarkable site. The nine-hectare Clos d'Ora vineyard is enclosed by walls and farmed using biodynamic practices, including the use of mules and horses. The vineyard is planted to Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache and very old Carignan. Bertrand has said that Clos d'Ora represents a newfound focus for him: "I turned 50 three months ago and I want now to make tribute wines. This is what I want to do for the next 30 years: to capture the essence of the terroir (thedrinksbusiness.com, April 9, 2015)."

WEINGUT FRANZ KELLER GG SCHLOSSBERG GRAUBURGUNDER 2014

536680 (D) 750mL $73.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Schlossberg Grauburgunder GG opens with a very clear, fresh and aromatic bouquet with some flinty and lemon aromas on the nose. Creamy, fresh and very elegant, this is a medium to full-bodied, very complex and salty wine of great purity and tension. Excellent aging potential. Drink date: 2018-2030. FERRARI PERLÉ NERO RISERVA 2009
Traditional method, DOC Trento

484154 (XD) 750mL $72.00

TASTING NOTE: A pure expression of Pinot Nero (vinified off the skins to make a white wine), the 2009 Trento Metodo Classico Perlé Nero Riserva Extra Brut offers structure and power. This is a full-bodied sparkling wine that opens to intense aromas of dried fruit, wild berry, crème caramel and oven-fresh croissant. The wine leaves a long trail of freshness and fruit intensity that is spurred forward by the fine and elegant quality of the perlage. Drink date: 2017-2028. IL POLLENZA 2010
IGT Marche

342030 (XD) 750mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2010 Il Pollenza is a wine of beauty and depth. The Marche region is not known for wines of this power and character, but the Il Pollenza estate seems intent on making a big statement. The Bordeaux choice of grapes - as opposed to using indigenous varieties - gives the wine a clearly international blueprint. The wine is deeply saturated and rich with dark fruit and plenty of spice. I prefer the 2009 vintage to this wine, but not by much. This wine is impressive based on its own merits. Drink date: 2017-2027. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, March 30, 2016)

NADA GIUSEPPE MACARINI BARBARESCO 2014

548586 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: Enticing violet, berry, new leather and cake spice aromas lead the nose of this wine. Its precise, structured palate offers Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, cinnamon and star anise flavors set against youthfully exuberant but refined tannins and vibrant acidity. Drink 2024-2034. TASTING NOTE: Fragrant blue flower, woodland berry, underbrush, scorched earth and grilled herb are just some of the aromas that float out of the glass. TENUTE SELLA SAN SEBASTIANO ALLO ZOPPO LESSONA 2007
DOC

448084 (XD) 750mL $53.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2007 Lessona San Sebastiano allo Zoppo is a beautiful, complete wine. Pliant and expressive, yet also intensely mineral, the 2007 is built on balance and harmony. The 2007 is generous and resonant, yet the firm tannins carry the fruit beautifully all the way through to the finish. Sweet tobacco, dried flowers and mint are some of the many notes that inform the finish. This is another great showing from Sella. The San Sebastiano allo Zoppo is 85% Nebbiolo and 15% Vespolina that spends three years in cask and one year in smaller barrels. Drinking window: 2014-2022. FEUDO MONTONI VRUCARA NERO D'AVOLA 2012
DOC Sicilia

111286 (XD) 750mL $58.00

TASTING NOTE: This is Feudo Montoni's grand achievement and the results are inspiring for what was a challenging vintage. The 2012 Nero d'Avola Vrucara is still labeled as an IGT Sicilia wine despite the fact that the denomination labeling has since changed. No matter, it lives up to its well-deserved reputation. This is a full-bodied and generous expression of Nero d'Avola that offers a thick load of dark fruit with plenty of Maraschino cherry and blackberry preserves. My only hesitation concerns the evident oak that still needs time to integrate. Given the generous textural richness and the beautifully polished tannins, I have no doubt that those spicy oak tones will tone down with a year or two of extra cellar aging. Fruit is sourced from pre-phylloxera 80 and 90-year-old vines. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

TASTING NOTE: Enticing from the first aromas of fresh cherry, violet and spice, this supple red is balanced and expressive. SOLDERA SANGIOVESE 2011
IGT Toscana

402271 (XD) 750mL $770.00

The iconic Case Basse vineyard was planted in 1972 and produced Rosso dai Vigneti di Brunello - the former designation for Rosso di Montalcino - until 1990, when Gianfranco Soldera determined that the vines were finally ready to produce truly great Brunello. It is this focused, determined insistence upon quality that has made Soldera one of the most influential and important winemakers in Italy and has made his wines among the most highly sought-after in the world. "Soldera's meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard is legendary. His are some of the most well maintained, manicured vines I have ever seen (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, July 2008)."

COL D'ORCIA POGGIO AL VENTO RISERVA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

464552 (XD) 750mL $131.00

TASTING NOTE: Released seven years after the harvest, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is a stunning wine. It soars to the highest altitudes in terms of elegance and power. These opposite forces - muscle versus grace - are what distinguish this classic vintage. Col d'Orcia has effortlessly captured and immortalized both sides of the continuum. The bouquet produces a long succession of aromas including dried cherry fruit, licorice, cola, lavender flower, cured meat and black truffle. The velvety finish is supple and long in persistence. This is a gorgeous creation. Drink date: 2018-2035. Score: 97 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

BUSSOLA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2011
DOC

216374 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Molinara. Very deep ruby, almost inky in color. Multidimensional nose combines red cherry, raspberry syrup, gunflint, cinnamon, flowers and oak spices. Thick but magically light on its feet, with penetrating red fruit and very strong chocolaty flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity. The sweet and ultra smooth finish saturates the palate with red fruits, chocolate and sweet spices. Sports a highish 17% alcohol by volume but you can hardly tell, a real neat trick for such a luscious, concentrated wine. Almost like drinking liquid chocolate with alcohol. Outstanding Amarone that will likely turn out to be one of the top three wines of the vintage. Drinking window: 2019-2030. Score: 95 (Ian D'Agata, vinous.com, May 2017)

PRÀ AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA 2011

TASTING NOTE: Dark ruby. Very refined nose offers aromas and flavors of spicy dark plum, chocolate-covered cherry and minerals, lifted by strong floral accents (especially lavender and peony). Multilayered and very suave, boasting a long and tactile finish, leaving behind a strong impression of grace and refinement. A very elegant, smooth Amarone of noteworthy depth and complexity but also impeccable balance (you can't tell this clocks in at 16.5% alcohol). Drinking window: 2020-2033. TASTING NOTE: (Aged for 20 months in new oak barrels, 60 percent of them French and the rest American) Dark violet. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red and dark berries, incense, vanilla and candied flowers, along with a vibrant mineral overtone. Juicy, concentrated and focused on the palate, offering intense black raspberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors that deepen and spread out steadily on the back half. An impressively long, mineral-laced finish features silky, even tannins and an echo of lavender pastille. Drinking window: 2019-2026. Score: 93 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, Jan. 2017)

Complex aromas of cherry compote, boysenberry, lavender, candied licorice and cola, along with a smoky mineral overtone. Powerful, lush and surprisingly lively, with outstanding length, closing thrust and smooth tannins that sneak in late. Drinking window: 2018-2025. Score: 93 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, Jan. 2016)

MUGA PRADO ENEA GRAN RESERVA 2009
DOCa Rioja

743310 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: The most classic cuvée was not produced in 2007 or 2008, so we jumped to the phenomenal 2009 Prado Enea. It was produced with grapes from cooler vineyards that enjoyed 20 extra days of slow ripening compared with warmer zones, which provided them with perfect ripeness and deep flavors. This blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and the remaining 10% between Mazuelo and Graciano had an extended élevage, in this case no less than three years (alternating newer and older barrels). This is still a baby and I know Winemaker Jorge Muga would like to keep it in bottle for longer before selling it, but the commercial pressure is tremendous, as there has been no wine since 2006. The wine has 14.1% alcohol and a surprising 3.34 pH, especially considering 2009 was generally a warm and ripe year. But somehow this cuvée seems to work very well in ripe vintages. The wine feels even younger on the palate, and it still needs to develop some further complexity and the silky texture for which this wine is famous. There is good balance here and all the elements are in place for a nice development in bottle. In fact, it feels like one of the great recent vintages of Prado Enea. There will be no Prado Enea in 2012 and 2013 either, but it's produced in 2010, 2014 (small quantities) and 2015. At this quality level, the price seems like a real bargain. Drink date: 2017-2029. Score: 96 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

CHÂTEAU DES CHARMES EQUULEUS 2012

319525 (XD) 750mL $43.00

Gold Medal winner and the Grape Growers of Ontario "Red Wine of the Year" winner at the 2017 Ontario Wine Awards.

TASTING NOTE: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% of both Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Made only in the warmest vintages in Niagara, this is the best Equuleus yet, a more modern style that's approachable now yet will age for 10-20 years. The nose shows rich cherry, a touch of raspberry and then lavish cassis, concentrated black currants and fine oak spices. It is smooth on the palate with generous fruit flavours, fine tannins and integrated spices that echo on the long finish. Score: 93 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, March 29, 2015)

TAWSE ROBYN'S BLOCK CHARDONNAY 2013
VQA Twenty Mile Bench

416321 (XD) 750mL $45.95

TASTING NOTE: This is the 'beefiest' and richest of the Tawse chardonnays, from 30+ year vines now farmed organically. It shows a billowing nose [of] roasted nuts, ripe apple, meringue/custardy sweetness and buttered toast. It is medium-full bodied, fairly rounded yet founded on firm acidity and minerality, that really shows on the finish. A touch sour-edged - excellent length. A real mouthful. ANGOVE WARBOYS VINEYARD GRENACHE 2014
McLaren Vale

537209 (XD) 750mL $46.00

TASTING NOTE: 57/43%, the shiraz chilled for 7 days, then placed at the bottom of small fermenters with just-picked grenache crushed on top, other fermenters had whole bunch grenache layered with whole berries, matured in used French oak. A text book exercise in the blend, with a perfumed bouquet and supple medium-bodied palate of satsuma plum and red berry fruits held in a fine web of tannins and ghostly oak. Drink by: 2030. HOWARD PARK SCOTSDALE SHIRAZ 2014
Great Southern

923557 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: The purple-crimson colour is excellent, the wine living up to that promise; the spicy/peppery bouquet leads into a medium to full-bodied palate, black fruits, licorice and pepper all on display. It is the structure of the tannins that clinch the deal: they are rounded and sewn into the fabric of the wine. This and the Leston are very different, but of equal quality. Drink By: 2044. Special Value. Score: 96 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Feb. 4, 2016)

VASSE FELIX TOM CULLITY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013

537456 (XD) 750mL $175.00

TASTING NOTE: That this is an elegant wine is the first thing to note here. The nose has hints of gravel and leafy nuances - a textbook regional expression. It's really seductive, and there's a fusion of bright and vibrant redcurrants, boysenberries and red cherries together with cassis and blue plums as well as mulberries. Some fresh, violet-like florals and freshly cut herbs also come into play along with pomegranate and deliciously fresh and cedary oak that's well played in behind vineyard-focused characters. The richer malbec fruits are clear here, and at 20% of the blend, it has a role to play, both in terms of the upfront plushness and back palate depth. The old vines are also working some magic within the layers of structure and length here. The palate's immaculate and supple, the tannins are fluid, long and polished, and there's detail here as well as depth, before things culminate in an incredibly fresh finish. Tannins are superbly elegant and truly refined. This is a wine of finesse and fine detail. Beautifully grown, perfectly captured and astutely crafted. This is everything a great wine should be and a new step for Vasse Felix, Margaret River and for Australian cabernet. Drink: 2020-2030+. Score: 99 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Jan. 11, 2017)

THE LANE VINEYARD JOHN CRIGHTON SHIRAZ/CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2010
Adelaide Hills

534487 (XD) 750mL $99.00

TASTING NOTE: Some colour development; the spicy bouquet speaks of the intense red and black fruits of the palate and, to a lesser degree, quality oak; the palate is only medium-bodied, but has intensity, drive and length to the blackberry, blackcurrant and red cherry fruits, the tannins fine and well balanced. Drink By: 2030. Score: 95 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, July 26, 2014)

KA TAHI RANGATIRA RESERVE SYRAH 2015
Gimblett Gravels

534792 (XD) 750mL $37.00

TASTING NOTE: Wonderfully perfumed and inviting, the bouquet shows black/blueberry, violet, cedar and vanilla characters, together with nuances of clove and black pepper. The palate offers excellent fruit purity and concentration, without being heavy, and delivers velvety texture and fine, polished tannins. This is beautifully styled and refined with plenty of delectable flavours. A single vineyard wine from the Gimblett Gravels district. At its best: now to 2025. Score: 94 (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, Dec. 2017)

CATENA ZAPATA FORTUNA TERRAE ADRIANNA VINEYARD MALBEC 2013
Tupungato

536847 (XD) 750mL $127.00

TASTING NOTE: There are three separate bottling[s] from the Adrianna vineyard, one of them the 2013 Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae, sourced from the part of the vineyard with slightly deeper soils (we're talking only about 70 centimeters here!) that has limestone underneath, is flatter and provides very aromatic, slightly lighter wines, more feminine if you like. It's very floral, gentle, with fine tannins with a good structure based on a combination with superb acidity. This is also lighter colored, the more Pinot of the three. Some 3,000 bottles were filled in December 2015. Drink Date: 2016-2023. Score: 96 (Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

CHEVAL DES ANDES 2013
Mendoza

393264 (D) 750mL $150.00

TASTING NOTE: The purity of fruit is so impressive here with flowers, dark fruit, and strawberries. Full body, ultra-fine tannins, and a focus and beauty that makes you think. So long and elegant. 67% malbec, 25% cabernet sauvignon and 8% petit verdot. Score: 98 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, May 20, 2016)

SEÑA 2014
Aconcagua Valley

520551 (D) 750mL $225.00

TASTING NOTE: Complex aromas of blueberry, rose petal, licorice, and currant. Full body, ultra fine tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Balanced and very refined. A wonderful purity and beauty. Give it three to four years to come together but already a beauty. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 16% carmenere, 11% malbec, 8% merlot and 5% petit verdot. Score: 97 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, May 12, 2016)

SEA SMOKE TEN PINOT NOIR 2015
Santa Rita Hills

59014 (XD) 750mL $145.00

Sea Smoke produces three Pinot Noirs: Botella, Southing and Ten. Named for and produced from a barrel of each of the 10 Pinot Noir clones in the Sea Smoke estate vineyard, the Ten is by far the heartiest and most robust of the winery's Pinots. The more aggressive style is achieved, in part, by using a greater percentage of new oak in the vinification process. The resulting wine has all of Sea Smoke's trademark fruit-driven style in an intense, brooding package with a noticeable tannic framework. The Ten is an excellent choice for long-term cellaring.

CONTINUUM 2014
Napa Valley

397836 (XD) 750mL $335.00

TASTING NOTE: 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot. A raw, intense wine, the 2014 Continuum reveals serious intensity. Next to some of the more recent vintages, the 2014 is a bit more lithe and linear in feel, but like the 2013, it shows darker tonalities of fruit and terrific energy. Mocha, black cherries, graphite and cloves add the final shades of nuance. Although it is early, the 2014 is shaping up very nicely. Drinking window: 2022-2034. Score: 93-96 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

MT. BRAVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Mount Veeder

329433 (XD) 750mL $109.00

TASTING NOTE: The top score, though, has to go to the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest small quantities of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. This wine has an opaque purple color, a big, sweet kiss of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, some graphite, a juicy, full-bodied, savory mouthfeel, and excellent purity and underlying balance. This seamlessly rich mountain Cabernet Sauvignon should age effortlessly for two decades or more. Score: 95+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

SHAFER RELENTLESS 2014
Napa Valley

247718 (XD) 750mL $155.00

TASTING NOTE: Shafer's 2014 Relentless is fabulous. The most expressive and varietally expressive of the three vintages of Relentless I tasted. In 2014, Relentless has 11% Petite Sirah, which, along with the personality of the year, kicks up the aromatics and flavors in a meaningful way. Lavender, mint, violets and crème de cassis notes are laced into the super-expressive finish. The 2014 is shaping up to be a real gem. Score: 92-95 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

DYER CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

397810 (XD) 750mL $145.00

TASTING NOTE: Dyer's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has come together since last year. Today, the tannins have softened considerably, and the wine shows less energy than it did twelve months ago, both of which suggest the wine may have been fined. A host of black cherry, plum, spice, menthol and graphite flesh out on the savory, inviting finish. The 2013 is impressive and very beautiful, but it showed a bit more pedigree last year. Drinking window: 2019-2033. Score: 94 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2015)

SHAFER HILLSIDE SELECT CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Stags Leap District

735712 (XD) 750mL $465.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select will probably hit the magic three-digit score, but it is a more backward style of wine, although probably even more concentrated than the 2012, and that's saying something. Fabulous potential of 30-50 years is evident in this profound bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that is inky blue/black to the rim and offers up notes of charcoal embers, scorched earth, blackberries, cassis, blueberries, a hint of coffee, and background barrique smells. Massively concentrated but incredibly elegant and poised, this is a wine of great energy and vibrancy. It is fabulously deep, built like a skyscraper, and set for an incredibly long life. Try not to consume a bottle for at least another 4-5 years and then watch the magic unfold. Drink date: 2020-2071. Score: 98+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

RHYS VINEYARDS HORSESHOE VINEYARD CHARDONNAY 2013
Santa Cruz Mountains

547257 (XD) 750mL $160.00

TASTING NOTE: My favorite of the latest release Chardonnays, the 2013 Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard is a screaming effort that got a few wows in the notes. More ripe and rounded than the Alpine Vineyard (at the moment anyways, as Kevin commented that this cuvee continues to pick up more and more focus with bottle age), its light/medium gold color is followed by tons of ripe white peach and orchard fruits, toasted nuts, crushed rock and white flowers. Rounded, concentrated and rich on the palate, yet with vibrant underlying acidity that cuts through the finish, give it a year or two in the cellar and enjoy bottles through 2025+. Score: 94+ (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 29, 2015)

MAISON L'ENVOYÉ THE ATTACHÉ PINOT NOIR 2014
Willamette Valley

546549 (XD) 750mL $63.00

TASTING NOTE: (35 percent new oak) Limpid ruby-red. Powerful red berry and Asian spice aromas, along with suggestions of smoky minerals and incense. Sweet, seamless and penetrating on the palate, offering vibrant raspberry, cherry and spicecake flavors and a subtle touch of blood orange. Silky tannins emerge slowly and fold smoothly into the vibrant fruit on the long, nervy finish, which leaves notes of five-spice powder and red berries behind. Drinking window: 2019-2025. Score: 93 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, Dec. 2016)

SUMMUM SEVEN SPRINGS ESTATE CHARDONNAY 2014
Eola-Amity Hills

547240 (XD) 750mL $155.00

TASTING NOTE: Taut, minerally and deftly balanced, this poised style delivers beautifully defined pear, river stone, floral and lime flavors, showing distinction and presence. Drink now through 2024. 400 cases made. Score: 95 (Harvey Steiman, winespectator.com, Dec. 31, 2016)

PALENCIE SYRAH 2014
Yakima Valley

548354 (XD) 750mL $58.00

TASTING NOTE: Alluring aromas of blackberry and barrel spice lead to ripe, full-bodied black-fruit flavors, showing beautiful depth and a long finish. It packs a hefty punch while never losing its sense of balance. Score: 92 (Sean P. Sullivan, Wine Enthusiast, March 1, 2017)

MOULIN TOUCHAIS 1997
AC Coteaux du Layon

457721 (S) 750mL $81.00

TASTING NOTE: Shows the power and depth of this great vintage, with a core of still-youthful mango, guava and creamed peach flavors streaming along, backed by light heather, honeysuckle and quince notes. The long finish is creamy and pure, displaying a lovely lining of brioche and lemon curd. Drink now through 2037. Score: 95 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, 2016)

GRAHAM'S VINTAGE PORT 2000
DOP

706317 (S) 750mL $125.00

TASTING NOTE: Smells like freshly picked orchids, with loads of ripe, clean fruit. Full-bodied, medium sweet and very powerful and racy. It lasts for minutes on your palate. Yet there's a balance and class to this young Vintage Port. This is the greatest glass of Graham I have ever tasted, young or old. Best after 2014. Designation Collectibles. Rated #9 in the 2003 Wine Spectator's Top 100. Score: 98 (James Suckling, winespectator.com, May 15, 2003)

SANDEMAN 30-YEAR-OLD TAWNY PORT
DOP

116202 (S) 750mL $125.00

Kim Marcus awarded this wine a rating of 95 points and called it "... lush, rich and creamy ... complex and pure ..." (winespectator.com, Sept. 30, 2016)

TASTING NOTE: Sandeman is a regular Decanter World Wine Awards Gold - and Trophy - winner for its supremely refined tawnies. This has lovely lifted aromas and flavours of chocolate-covered sultanas and orange peel. Seductive and creamy with perfect poise for its age. Score: 96 (Richard Mayson, decanter.com, April 17, 2015)
