HENNESSY RICHARD COGNAC
AC

438929 750mL $7,132.00

TASTING NOTE: The nosing passes discover seductive aromas of hazelnut, butterscotch, spice cake, pipe tobacco and honey. The palate entry offers succulent flavors of toasted bread, blueberries and light toffee; the midpalate features delightful tastes of brown sugar, cocoa, butterscotch, lychee, oak, vanilla, rancio, nougat and black plum. Concludes with elegance and grace. Score: 98 (Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2007)

CHÂTEAU FAUGÈRES 2014
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

473280 (XD) 750mL $98.00

TASTING NOTE: Incredible aromas of blackberries, blueberries, minerals and stone. Wow. Full-bodied, silky and firm. So polished. Sexy. Drink in 2022. Score: 94 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 13, 2017)

CHÂTEAU D'AIGUILHE 2010
AC Côtes de Bordeaux - Castillon

554022 (XD) 750mL $72.00

TASTING NOTE: Very lush and expressive, with caressing plum sauce, mulled blueberry and blackberry fruit and melted licorice and warm fruitcake flavors, all gliding together through the finish. Offers lovely range and a seductive mouthfeel. Drink now through 2019. Score: 92 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2013)

CHÂTEAU PICHON LONGUEVILLE COMTESSE DE LALANDE 2010
AC Pauillac, 2e cru

554220 (XD) 750mL $365.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2010 Pichon Lalande is performing extremely well and at the top of the range I predicted several years ago. A final blend dominated much more by Cabernet Sauvignon than usual (66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot), the wine is a tighter, more tannic and structured version of this famed Pauillac, which often tends to have more of a St-Julien-like personality than most Pauillacs. Structured, backward and tannic, yet showing a fat mid-palate that is more savory, broader and more expansive than I remember from barrel, this wine is somewhat reminiscent of the 1986, given the Cabernet Sauvignon domination of the blend. Full-bodied, impressively endowed, and less sexy and velvety than normal, this is a somewhat different style of Pichon Lalande than most readers have been used to. Whether you like it more or less will depend on your point of view, but this wine, unlike most Pichon Lalandes, needs a good 5-7 years of cellaring and should keep for 30+ years. Drink Date: 2018-2048. Score: 95+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

CHÂTEAU SUDUIRAUT 2003
AC Sauternes

478305 (S) 375mL $47.00

TASTING NOTE: Candied citrus and pineapple drizzled with acacia honey is how this smells and tastes, and the wine is rich and creamy with excellent concentration. Powerful and flavorful finish. Drink or hold. Score: 94 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 13, 2017)

DOMAINE DE BELLENE LES HAUTS JARRONS 1ER CRU 2014
AC Savigny-lès-Beaune

540757 (XD) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: This Premier Cru is situated in the southern half of Savigny, close to Beaune proper. Here it has produced a ripe generous wine full of spicy smoky red fruits and balanced acidity. The wine is still showing its baby fruit and needs time. Drink from 2019. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 31, 2016)

LOUIS JADOT GRANDS EPENOTS POMMARD 1ER CRU 2014
AC

569814 (XD) 750mL $125.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Pommard 1er Cru les Grands Epenots has a rather extravagant bouquet, especially for a Pommard, with showy red cherries, raspberry coulis and orange sorbet scents that are nicely defined. This is quite Volnay in style. The palate is clean and fresh, gently gripping the mouth, quite tensile and linear but with appreciable depth on the raspberry, strawberry and sage finish. There is something very "correct" about this Grands Epenots. Very fine. Drink Date: 2017-2030. Score: 90-92 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2015)

MARCHAND-TAWSE MOREY-SAINT-DENIS CLOS DES ORMES 1ER CRU 2013
AC

254441 (XD) 750mL $93.00

TASTING NOTE: A wonderfully fresh and admirably pure nose offers up notes of red currant, dried flowers and discreet earth hints. There is a lilting and very supple mouth feel to the middle weight flavors that deliver solid length on the linear and ever-so-mildly strict finish. This isn't generous but it is well-focused. Drink: 2021+. Score: 89-91 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Jan. 15, 2015)

FOURRIER VIEILLES VIGNES GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2010
AC

548289 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: Good bright, full red. High-pitched aromas of tangy red and darker berries and rose petal, complemented by lower-toned earth and smoke notes. Boasts terrific volume for village wine: dense, salty and soil-driven, with raspberry fruit complicated by earth and minerals. Really stimulates the taste buds on the smooth, long, lightly saline finish. Terrific village wine. Score: 91 (Stephen Tanzer, vinous.com, March 2013)

FRANCOIS MARTENOT MOILLARD VOSNE-ROMANÉE 1947
AC

560037 (XD) 750mL $360.00

Maison Francois Martenot, located in Beaune, has a winemaking history dating back to the 19th century. This wine comes from the revered Vosne-Romanée, perhaps the holiest of holies in Burgundian terroir; and from the exceptional 1947 vintage, which (along with 1945) is considered the best for Burgundian wine between 1929 and 1959. It is an exquisite opportunity to taste history.

BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS CHEVALIER-MONTRACHET GRAND CRU 2015
AC

569756 (XD) 750mL $444.00

TASTING NOTE: A slightly riper array is composed by notes of petrol, various white orchard fruit, spice and a hint of wood toast. The rich and relatively full-bodied flavors exhibit ample minerality along with plenty of sappy dry extract while delivering excellent length on the impressively long finish where hints of lemon and mandarin orange surface. This is a Chevalier that should be approachable younger than usual yet the material is here to repay mid-term cellaring. Drink: 2023+. Don't miss! Score: 93 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, June 11, 2017)

JEAN-CLAUDE BOISSET LIMOZIN MEURSAULT 2015
AC

105338 (XD) 750mL $93.00

This wine received a score of 93 in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2015 Special Report.

TASTING NOTE: A good width of aroma. Very faint reduction. Elegant, mouth-watering flavour, really beautifully mouth-watering flavor with a hint of tannin too. This is simply excellent. Bravo... (Bill Nanson, burgundy-report.com, 2015)

WILLIAM FEVRE BOUGROS CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2015
AC

569764 (XD) 750mL $90.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros comes from vines enjoying a southwest and south exposure. That said, it was broody and closed when I tasted it, though digging the snout in deeper you can eke out scents of cockleshell and fresh mussels. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity. There is fine definition here, quite saline in the mouth with a crisp, lightly spiced finish that continues that estuarine theme. It cries out for a huge mountain of fruits de mer! Drink Date: 2019-2035. Score: 91-93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

DOMAINE GIRAUD LES GALLIMARDES CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015
AC

62828 (XD) 750mL $

TASTING NOTE: Very seductive, with a note of Turkish coffee out front, quickly melding into a delicious mix of black currant, plum and boysenberry pâte de fruit flavors. Lots of black tea, incense and warm fruitcake details swirl throughout, while well-buried minerality keeps the finish lengthy and firmly grounded. This just gets bigger and bigger with aeration. Best from 2020 through 2040. Score: 97 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2017)

DOMAINE SAINT PRÉFERT RÉSERVE AUGUSTE FAVIER CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015
AC

65805 (XD) 750mL $83.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve Auguste Favier is another blockbuster that offers full-bodied richness, a layered, unctuous and expansive, sexy texture, sweet tannin and killer notes of roasted meats, ground pepper, melted licorice, and assorted red and black fruits. It's one seamless beauty that will be slightly more approachable in its youth than the Collection Charles Giraud, but still keep for over two decades. Score: 95-97 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

M. CHAPOUTIER LES BÉCASSES CÔTE-RÔTIE 2015
AC

280420 (XD) 750mL $93.00

TASTING NOTE: It's hard to believe this is Chapoutier's "entry-level" Côte Rôtie. The 2015 Cote Rotie les Bécasses is a rich, full-bodied, creamy-textured effort, loaded with ripe fruit that takes the form of mocha, milk chocolate and roasted meat, leading into a long, savory and velvety finish. Drink Date: 2020-2035. Score: 94 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Dec. 29, 2017)

JEAN-LUC COLOMBO AMOUR DE DIEU CONDRIEU 2015
AC

540740 (XD) 750mL $73.00

TASTING NOTE: A ripe and forward style, with creamy apricot, yellow apple and melon flavors, lined with an anise twinge through the finish. A lovely display of fruit. Score: 92 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, Nov. 15, 2016)

MICHEL GASSIER LOU COUCARDIÉ BLANC 2014
AC Costières-de-Nîmes

406249 (XD) 750mL $36.00

TASTING NOTE: The richest and most textured in the lineup, the 2014 Costières de Nîmes Lou Coucardié is a blend of 50% Roussanne, 30% Grenache Blanc and 20% Viognier that saw plenty of skin contact, and fermentation and aging all in 500-liter barrels with plenty of batonnage. Tasting like a top flight Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc with its buttered citrus, citrus oil, white flowers and apple blossom aromas and flavors, it's medium-bodied, has bright acidity and a similarly tight, fresh profile found in the Nostre Païs. It should show at its best next year and evolve for 2-3 years, possibly longer. Drink Date: 2016-2019. Score: 91+ (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

MARC KREYDENWEISS WIEBELSBERG RIESLING 2013
AC Alsace Grand Cru

559880 (D) 750mL $56.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Grand Cru Wiebelsberg Riesling was fermented and aged for three years in foudres (racked after two years from the full lees) and opens with a clear, fresh and pure, stony nose that still shows some leather aromas along with herbal and crushed stone flavors. On the palate this is a clear, greatly fresh and crystalline Riesling from red sandstone soils that reveals a mouthwatering salinity, juiciness and stimulating grip. The aftertaste is very clear, aromatic and juicy, reflecting the great southeast-facing terroir and its characteristic salinity. This is probably one of the finest dry Rieslings being produced in Alsace in 2013, ready to conquer the Rangen of Zind Humbrecht and the Sommerbergs of Boxler. Score: 95 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, June 30, 2017)

BOLLINGER LA GRANDE ANNÉE BRUT ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE 2007
AC

993378 (D) 750mL $221.00

Grande Année is only produced in exceptional vintages. The blend consists of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay harvested strictly from grand and premier cru vineyards. The initial fermentation occurs in oak casks, and the wine is then aged in the Bollinger cellars on its lees for a minimum of five years before disgorgement. This recently released 2007 vintage has not yet been reviewed; expect the vibrancy, complexity and floral notes for which this wine is prized.

BARONS DE ROTHSCHILD BRUT ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE
AC

263723 (D) 750mL $110.00

TASTING NOTE: A fresh and balanced rosé Champagne, with a creamy bead and hints of walnut skin and lemon pith accenting the dried white cherry and almond biscotti flavors. Subtle finish. Drink now. Score: 90 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, 2017)

65110 (D) 750mL $

TASTING NOTE: An explosion of flavor, with ripe nectarine, lemon curd, clover honey, jasmine and grilled nut notes set on a firm, fine china-like frame. Lithe and elegant, this is like raw silk on the palate. The vibrant, mouthwatering finish echoes exotic spice, chalk and floral details. Disgorged May 2014. Best from 2017 through 2025. Score: 94 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Nov. 15, 2015)

CHÂTEAU BELLERIVE QUARTS DE CHAUME GRAND CRU 2015
AC

545111 (S) 750mL $57.00

TASTING NOTE: An incredibly complex and concentrated nose of apricots and deep earthy notes also has a herbal note keeping it fresh and vibrant. The palate is amazing; ripe apricot, quince compote, orange jam and some confit grapefruit have such length and intensity. Fabulous wine! Score: 98 (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2016)

JEAN-MAX ROGER LA CÔTE DE BUÉ SANCERRE 2014
AC

559948 (XD) 750mL $59.00

This wine is a true labour of love. It took the Roger family 25 years to nurture these historic vines on the Bué coast back to health. The result is a mineral-driven, wonderfully complex Sancerre.

TASTING NOTE: Stony, herbal and creamy on the nose. Deeply creamy on the palate too, generous in texture but fresh and almost sour in its intense freshness. Long and complex already. Drink: 2016-2022. Score: 18 (out of 20) (Julia Harding, MW, jancisrobinson.com, March 24, 2016)

CHÂTEAU SAINT-ROCH KERBUCCIO 2015
AP Maury Sec

343731 (XD) 750mL $42.00

TASTING NOTE: A more serious, structured wine than the Vieilles Vignes, the 2015 Maury Sec Kerbuccio is 80% Grenache and 20% Carignan that was brought up in 50% new demi-muids. Deep, rich, concentrated and full-bodied, yet always light on its feet and graceful, it offers fabulous southern France notes of roasted herbs, pepper, licorice and assorted dark fruits. It's heavenly juice that tastes like it cost three times the price. Score: 92-94 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, April 28, 2017)

DOMÄNE WACHAU KELLERBERG SMARAGD RIESLING 2016
Niederösterreich

560011 (XD) 750mL $46.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2016 Ried Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd shows a clear, intense and elegant bouquet of ripe and concentrated fruit aromas intertwined with flinty aromas. Full-bodied, fresh and very elegant on the palate, this is a pure and persistently salty Riesling with transparency and finesse. It is a mouthful of ripe Kellerberg that will age well for 20 years or more, although it tastes pretty good already at this early stage. Drink Date: 2021-2036. Score: 92-93 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, Aug. 31, 2017)

SELBACH-OSTER WEHLENER SONNENUHR RIESLING AUSLESE 2015
Qualitätswein

540476 (S) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is bright, pure, very fine, floral and flinty on the nose. It is provided with perfectly ripe and concentrated, slate-flavored fruit aromas intermixed with lemon and grapefruit notes. This is a lush, piquant and elegant, filigreed and finessed Auslese. It has great finesse and provided with a lot of Spiel and salt. The finish is pure, piquant and salty, but also lush and generous. This is a very precise, straight and stimulating, highly digestible Auslese with a lot of energy, tension and aging potential. It is very clear and there is no hint of botrytis here. Score: 95 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, April 28, 2017)

DI MEO TAURASI RISERVA VIGNA OLMO 2008
DOCG

552547 (XD) 750mL $44.00

TASTING NOTE: Prune, exotic spice, leather and cured meat aromas take center stage while the bright rounded palate offers dried black cherry, blackberry, licorice and tobacco. A flinty mineral note closes the finish. It's already accessible, with silky tannins. Drink through 2020. Score: 92 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2017)

LA MONACESCA MIRUM RISERVA VERDICCHIO DI MATELICA 2014
DOCG

562769 (XD) 750mL $41.00

TASTING NOTE: This is really edgy with lots of vibrant fruit and a tangy, minerally structure. Medium body yet a dense center palate that remains long and intense. A wonderful wine. Drink now. Score: 92 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 21, 2016)

VIETTI CASTIGLIONE BAROLO 2013
DOCG

703744 (XD) 750mL $68.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Barolo Castiglione is a terrific success story. This is the estate's bread and butter Barolo. Fruit is sourced throughout the Castiglione Falletto township. The wine is consistent and steady, offering amazing value and quality with each new release. The nose is generous and full. It imparts fresh fruit and dark cherry aromas with tar, smoke and licorice at the back. Evident structure gives the wine a firm backbone and will carry it through the next decade of cellar aging. Drink Date: 2019-2030. Score: 93+ (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, June 30, 2017)

MARCHESI DI GRÉSY MARTINENGA BARBARESCO 2008
DOCG

212894 (XD) 750mL $113.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2008 Barbaresco Martinenga fleshes out nicely with time in the glass. Sweet dark cherries, licorice, spices and leather are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. I very much like the way the 2008 has developed over the last year. I will not at all be surprised if it continues to improve in bottle as it is fresher and more vibrant than the 2009. The 2008 is a gorgeous wine that captures the very best of the house style. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028. Score: 92 (Antonio Galloni, robertparker.com, Oct. 30, 2012)

CASA E. DI MIRAFIORE BAROLO RISERVA 2007
DOCG

549600 (XD) 750mL $160.00

TASTING NOTE: An alluring bouquet of truffle, dried cherry, floral and tar leads off, followed by flavors of cherry, spice and leather. Mineral and tobacco notes chime in as this cruises to a long finish. Full of sweet fruit and spice, this reveals a hint of licorice in the aftertaste. Drink now through 2030. 1,666 cases made. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, April 30, 2017)

TERRAZZE DELL'ETNA CIRNECO 2010
DOC Etna

478594 (XD) 750mL $43.00

TASTING NOTE: I tasted the 2010 Etna Rosso Cirneco (100% Nerello Mascalese) last year and had the chance to revisit the wine again. Since then, not much has changed although my impression is that it has started to flesh out nicely. It shows more spice coloring of cinnamon and clove this year. This is an austere and stubborn wine that plays its cards close to its chest. It reveals crushed stone, dark fruit and grilled herb with slow precision. These qualities bode well for its future evolution. So does the tannic management. The wine is stern, firm and structured. Fruit comes from 60-year-old pre-phylloxera vines that have been pruned down to just two clusters per vine. Score: 92 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Sept. 29, 2015)

ARGIANO SOLENGO 2015
IGT Toscana

43398 (D) 750mL $89.00

TASTING NOTE: Fantastic aromas of flowers such as violets and roses with dark purple fruits and hints of stones, too. Full body with ultra-fine tannins and a long and linear finish. This is a return to the great Solengos of the mid-1990s. The best since 1997. Cabernet sauvignon 50%, petit verdot 30%, merlot 15% and sangiovese 5%. Drinkable now but better in 2020. Score: 97 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Aug. 28, 2017)

LE MORTELLE POGGIO ALLE NANE 2015
DOC Maremma Toscana

556589 (XD) 750mL $68.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Maremma Toscana Poggio alle Nane is a blend of Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon with a small quantity of Carmenère. There are evident wood tones here that wrap around the more subtle fruit nuances found deep below the surface. This remains a savory, plump and accessible wine with succulent layers of dark fruit. It shows the heat and the softness of the sunny Tuscan Coast. Drink Date: 2017-2024. Score: 90 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Nov. 30, 2017)

FATTORIA LE PUPILLE SAFFREDI 2014
IGT Maremma Toscana

74435 (XD) 750mL $120.00

TASTING NOTE: Sexy blueberry, spice and black pepper. Mushroom. Full body and ultra-fine tannins. Extremely long and just starting to come around now. Needs a little more time in bottle. Splendid finish. Try in 2019 but already amazing. Score: 96 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, April 3, 2017)

ISOLE E OLENA CEPPARELLO 2014

Silky tannins, expressive aromatics and beautifully delineated, bright, layered Sangiovese fruit are some of the signatures. In 2014, Paolo De Marchi produced an epic Cepparello for the ages. CASANOVA DI NERI TENUTA NUOVA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

302315 (XD) 1500mL $330.00

TASTING NOTE: The Casanova di Neri 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a beautiful wine that recalls many of the stunning characteristics found in its high-scoring predecessor. I gave a perfect 100 points to the 2010 edition of this same wine. This expression, made two years later, continues in that tradition of excellence. The quality of fruit is profound and intense. The bouquet offers black cherry, spice, leather, balsam herb, cola and licorice. The complexity is absolutely impressive. The mouthfeel, however, is slightly thinner. The classic 2010 vintage is remembered for its twofold punch of elegance and power. Alternatively, the 2012 vintage shows aromatic intensity and less persistence on the finish, generally speaking. Having said that, this remains one Bellissimo Brunello. Drink Date: 2019-2035. Score: 96 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

CORTONESI LA MANNELLA RISERVA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2010
DOCG

539726 (XD) 750mL $130.00

TASTING NOTE: This young red offers fresh cherry, currant, strawberry, leather and tobacco flavors, aligned with a dense layer of tannins. Lingers with a vein of mineral and a bright floral note. All the components are there for a fine future. Better than previously reviewed. Best from 2019 through 2033. 420 cases made. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Feb. 28, 2017)

FÈLSINA NERO DI NUBI PINOT NOIR 2010
IGT Toscana

568568 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: Here's a wine that doesn't exist yet and does not have a name. Now seven years after the harvest, the 2010 Pinot Nero by Fèlsina has yet to be christened. This is a gorgeous blend of Pinot Nero fruit that comes from the Fèlsina estate and Castello di Farnetella. You get the structure and power of the first with the finesse and bright crispness of the second. Indeed, this wine shows a saturated ruby color and a more robust sense of density. Dark fruit, color and licorice rise to the top of this evolved red wine. The crisp finish is supported by impressive roundness and fullness. This is a beautiful Pinot Nero with a Tuscan accent. The wine will be released at the end of 2017. Drink Date: 2018-2030. Score: 95 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, April 28, 2017)

TENIMENTI LUIGI D'ALESSANDRO MIGLIARA SYRAH 2007
DOC Cortona

552539 (XD) 750mL $136.00

TASTING NOTE: The estate's 2007 Syrah Migliara, from an old-vine plot, impresses for its detail, nuance and clarity. In many ways it reminds me of Angelo Gaja's Sori Tildin in its jewel-like precision and multi-faceted personality. Impossibly fine, ripe tannins frame perfumed red fruit, mint, minerals and spices all the way through to a sublime, eternal finish that seems to never end. What a thrill it will be to follow this wine in the coming years. Readers will have a hard time not opening this now, but the Migliara should be even better in a few years. Today it is merely magnificent. Stylistically the Migliara is more refined than Il Bosco. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Score: 96 (Antonio Galloni, robertparker.com, Oct. 30, 2010)

TOMMASI CA' FLORIAN RISERVA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2010

TASTING NOTE: A rich and dense Amarone that nevertheless remains vivid and agile with plenty of fine tannins and fresh acidity. Medium to full body, fruity and delicious. Drink now and enjoy. Score: 92 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Oct. 20, 2017)

CESARI BOSAN RISERVA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2008
DOC

995225 (XD) 750mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: 80% Corvina, 20% Rondinella. Youthful aromas of ripe cherries and blueberries. Powerful on the palate with a massive, but juicy, tannic structure. Well integrated-oak with a long and elegant aftertaste. Score: 90 (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2017)

GINI CONTRADA SALVARENZA VECCHIE VIGNE SOAVE CLASSICO 2014
DOCG

549592 (XD) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: Bright golden-tinged yellow. Complex, deep nose hints at apple, pear, tangerine, almonds and sweet spices. Then fresh, very pure and clean, with remarkable depth and delightful acid-fruit balance. Long and clean on the multilayered, precise finish. Legions ahead of almost any other Soave I tasted this year and a real statement on what old vine Garganega is capable of, in the right hands. This wine also showcases just how good the much-maligned (wrongly) 2014 vintage was for white wines. Drinking window: 2017-2025. Score: 94 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, May 2017)

QUINTA DE PANCAS RESERVA 2013
Vinho Regional Lisboa

377663 (XD) 750mL $29.00

TASTING NOTE: This is a concentrated, rich wine. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional and Alicante Bouschet, it is ripe, juicy and full of black-plum fruits. Dark and still firm, it is likely to age well. The 16 months in barrel have added spice and filled out the fruit. Drink this powerful wine from 2019. Cellar Selection. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 1, 2017)

VALDERIZ 2014
DO Ribera del Duero

385856 (XD) 750mL $43.00

TASTING NOTE: Dense and muscular, yet graceful, this red balances ripe blackberry and cassis flavors with savory black olive, bitter chocolate and mineral notes. The firm tannins are well-integrated, and lively acidity keeps this fresh through the spicy and floral finish. Drink now through 2028. 420 cases made. Highly Recommended. Score: 94 (Tim Matthews, winespectator.com, June 30, 2017)

CULMEN RESERVA 2011

29579 (XD) 750mL $100.00

TASTING NOTE: This generous and harmonious red is dense and smooth, delivering rich, deep flavors of plum, blackberry, coffee and mineral, with well-integrated tannins and balsamic acidity keeping it focused, but it stays plush through the spicy finish. Drink now through 2023. Score: 92 (Thomas Matthews, winespectator.com, June 30, 2017)

JASPER HILL GEORGIA'S PADDOCK SHIRAZ 2013
Heathcote, Victoria

294751 (XD) 750mL $105.00

TASTING NOTE: Dusty, firm, powerful: just a few apt descriptors for this vintage of one of Heathcote's top wines. Mocha, licorice and blackberries feature on the nose, while the palate delivers more of the same - dark fruit, chocolate and plenty of spice. Best after 2020. Cellar Selection. #66 in 2016 Best of Year. Score: 95 (Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 2016)

LA PLEIADE SHIRAZ 2013
Heathcote, Victoria

95570 (XD) 750mL $94.00

TASTING NOTE: Estate-grown; as usual, fermented in an open wax-lined concrete vat, matured for 12 months in new and second-use French barriques. Takes full-bodied shiraz onto a new level, so dense is the complex web of black fruits, licorice and spice, achieving this without the intrusion of alcohol or heavy tannins. To drink it now or soon would be vinocide, but some will be unable to avoid that sin. Drink By: 2053. Score: 96 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 1, 2017)

PENLEY STEYNING CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013

TASTING NOTE: Deep garnet-purple, the 2013 Steyning Cabernet Sauvignon opens with expressive crème de cassis, blackberry pie and menthol notes with hints of cigar boxes, sandalwood and yeast extract. Medium to full-bodied, the concentrated, minty black berry and savory flavors fill the mouth, supported by finely grained tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and layered. Drink Date: 2017-2030. Score: 94 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Aug. 31, 2017)

YALUMBA THE SIGNATURE CABERNET SAUVIGNON/SHIRAZ 2013
Barossa Valley, South Australia

410191 (XD) 750mL $75.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep garnet-purple, the 2013 The Signature (Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz) has very youthful, pure black fruits aromas with a pronounced black plum and black currant nose with underlying pepper, Provence herbs and licorice suggestions. Big, dense and profoundly expressive in the mouth, the palate is firmly constructed with chewy tannins and great persistence. This is just starting to open, so forget it for 3-5 years and drink it over the next twenty. Score: 93 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, June 30, 2017)

BLUE PYRENEES RICHARDSON RESERVE SHIRAZ 2012
Pyrenees, Victoria

557991 (XD) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: Includes 10% cabernet and 1% viognier; matured for 18 months in American oak (90% new). The sheer intensity of the blackberry and blackcurrant fruits has soaked up the oak to an astonishing degree, with no fruitcake/vanilla bean consequences; instead there is a chiselled profile very different to that of the rumbling Colin Richardson, the much loved giant of Melbourne Food Wine circles for decades, never a cross word coming from his lips. Drink By: 2042. Score: 96 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, July 27, 2015)

PEGASUS BAY PINOT NOIR 2014

31294 (XD) 750mL $53.00

TASTING NOTE: Wow! Fabulous, complex bouquet of broody dark red berries, layers of mineral and savoury whole-bunch and dried herb nuances. Juicy, lush, generous and complex on the palate, with generous oak and ripe, very fine tannins. Drink 2017-2025. Score: 96 (Cameron Douglas, MS, Decanter, Dec. 2015)

RUSTENBERG FIVE SOLDIERS CHARDONNAY 2015
WO Stellenbosch

107375 (XD) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Chardonnay Five Soldiers is produced from a single block each year, apart from 2016, which was affected by smoke taint from bush fires. It is clearly less tropical on the nose, quite conservative in style but nicely defined, the 70% new oak very discrete. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, a subtle Chardonnay with grapefruit and mango notes, a pinch of lemon sherbet, leading to a composed finish that fans out nicely but never gets carried away. This is an excellent, sophisticated Chardonnay to enjoy over the next decade. Drink Date: 2018-2028. Score: 92 (Neal Martin, winespectator.com, April 28, 2017)

TEHO MALBEC 2013
Uco Valley

482075 (XD) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 TeHo Malbec is sourced from the oldest part of their 1955 vineyard, from a higher altitude terrace planted around 1940. It is made with a field blend, mainly Malbec with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Bonarda, Tempranillo. Everything goes together into the fermentation containers (egg-shaped cement vats, plastic bins and open barrels). It's ripe and heady with notes of plums, damsons, aromatic herbs and forest floor. The palate is full-bodied (but the wine is just below 14% alcohol) juicy, a bit chewy, with good grip and clout. This is an XL Malbec, with concentration and stuffing to age. Score: 95 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2015)

ALMAVIVA 2015
Puente Alto, Maipo Valley

740233 (XD) 750mL $246.00

TASTING NOTE: A glorious and complex nose of tobacco, blackberries and hints of stones and flowers. Hints of bitter chocolate. Full-bodied, very tight and compacted. Linear backbone gives this form and tension. It has the same character on the palate as well as cayenne and other spice. Loved the 2014 but this shows more fine-grained tannins. So balanced and harmonious. A blend of 69% cabernet sauvignon, 24% carmenere, 5% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Needs four or five years in bottle but a joy to taste now. Score: 100 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, May 29, 2017)

DE MARTINO ALTO DE PIEDRAS CARMENÈRE 2014
Single vineyard, Maipo Valley

544288 (XD) 750mL $42.00

TASTING NOTE: The top Carmenere at De Martino is the 2014 Single Vineyard Alto de Piedras, sourced from a plot planted on one of the stony alluvial terraces of the Maipo River which suits the variety to avoid green aromas and flavors in its wines. They want to offer a typical Carmenere with spice, tobacco leaves and red fruit notes, but without too much alcohol, over-ripeness or excess oak to try to cover the herbal tones. 2014 was a good year for Carmenere, with moderate yields. The vines were planted ungrafted in 1992 in their Isla de Maipo vineyards and are organically-farmed. The grapes were harvested quite early and fermented with native yeasts. The wine was kept in second use 5,000-liter oak foudres for 30 months. If you think about vodka and jalapeños when you hear the name Carmenere, you need to try this one, because it will change your perception of the grape. This is another dimension of Carmenere, trying to look for dry-farming characteristics in a zone that needs irrigation. They achieve complete ripeness of the grape avoiding the vegetal aromas and the high alcohol. This is subtle, austere, serious in a (good) Bordeaux way (think Lafleur) with hints of tobacco leaves and spices. There is superb balance in the palate, and it feels very young, with ultra refined chalky tannins and good freshness. This is the style of Carmenere I like, but it's very hard to get, and it's possibly unique in Chile. 13,041 bottles were filled in November 2016. Drink Date: 2017-2021. Score: 94 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, April 28, 2017)

STAG'S LEAP WINE CELLARS S.L.V. CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2015
Napa Valley

14027 (XD) 750mL $250.00

TASTING NOTE: A barrel sample, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon S. L. V. offers up aromas of pepper, spice box, lavender and potpourri with mulberries, black cherries and black berries at the core, plus plum preserves and bay leaves hints. Medium to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, the palate is firm and earthy with a long, minerally finish. Score: 93-95 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Dec. 29, 2017)

CORISON NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Napa Valley

569707 (XD) 750mL $172.00

TASTING NOTE: Another classic from Cathy Corison, the 2014 Cabernet displays a pretty bouquet of black cherry, petroleum jelly, cocoa nib and dried rose. On the palate the wine is intense, nicely concentrated and texturally refined, with good depth and a lovely line of bright acidity which lends a crunchy edge to the fruit. Drinking Window: 2020-2040. Score: 95 (William Kelley, Decanter, May 31, 2017)

DUCKHORN THREE PALMS VINEYARD MERLOT 2014
Napa Valley

34785 (XD) 750mL $129.00

TASTING NOTE: A powerful red, with concentrated flavors of red plum, cherry and boysenberry that are layered with plenty of rich spice and mineral accents. Touches of slate and cardamom make for a complex finish. Drink now through 2023. Highly Recommended. Ranked #1 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines 2017. Score: 95 (Kim Marcus, winespectator.com, Nov. 30, 2017)

JEFF COHN CELLARS CASSATA VINEYARD ZINFANDEL 2014
Sonoma County

554246 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: I tasted a half-dozen Zinfandel-based cuvées from Jeff Cohn - and all of them merit serious attention from wine consumers. The 2014 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard is 75% Zinfandel and 25% Petite Sirah with 15% whole clusters. This is a killer Zinfandel with floral notes, loads of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, medium to full-bodied and, somehow, hiding all of its high-octane 15.6% alcohol. Stunningly floral, rich, full-bodied and compelling, this is a stunner to drink over the next 7-8 years. Drink Date: 2016-2024. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

JEFF COHN CELLARS DOMAINE DES CHIRATS ROCKPILE VINEYARD SYRAH 2014
Sonoma County

554238 (XD) 750mL $114.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Syrah Domaine Des Chirats comes from Rockpile. It is a collaboration with Yves Cuilleron from France's Northern Rhône. This is made from what is believed to be Chapoutier suitcase clones. It is 100% Syrah aged in about 30% new French oak with about 30% whole clusters during the fermentation. Beautiful elegance and complexity with notes of blueberry, blackberry, floral notes, and great acid, this is a dead ringer for a Northern Hermitage or Côte-Rôtie. A gorgeous, dense purple color to the rim, sweet, juicy fruit, full body, but again, incredible freshness and vibrancy. This is a stunner and comes in at 15.2% natural alcohol, but seems light on its feet. Drink it over the next decade or more. P.S. As it sits in the glass, some bacon fat, lard and meaty notes also emerge. Drink Date: 2016-2026. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

O'SHAUGHNESSY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Howell Mountain, Napa Valley

328138 (XD) 750mL $167.00

TASTING NOTE: The sensational 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain (which is reasonably priced, given how superb it is) is her largest cuvée of just under 3,300 cases. It is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest tiny quantities of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Carmenère, Petit Verdot, and a real head scratcher, St. Macaire. Inky purple to the rim, with notes of white flowers, licorice, forest floor and graphite, this wine exhibits classic mulberry, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit notes, some background, vague oak, a full-bodied, beautifully proportioned mouthfeel, and a layered finish. Like most 2014s, it can be drunk now, but it has at least two decades of cellaring potential. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

HOOPES OAKVILLE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

534800 (XD) 750mL $110.00

TASTING NOTE: True elegance. Intense floral aromas with a lovely purity of cassis fruit. It is lean, sleek and lifted with great poise. There is impeccable balance here, with no element in excess. Drink: 2017-2030. Score: 95 (Decanter, Feb. 2017)

MAYACAMAS CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Mount Veeder, Napa Valley

457564 (XD) 750mL $190.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a huge, dark wine. Virile, imposing and massively structured in the glass, the 2013 is a wine for readers who can be patient. The flavors are dark, bold and incisive, with potent tannins and a real feeling of gravitas to back things up. Black cherry, game, smoke, gravel and licorice add to an impression of brooding intensity. In many ways, the 2013 reminds me of some of the great wines of the 1970s in its dark, imposing personality. Drinking window: 2025-2053. Score: 97 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Jan. 2018)

PINE RIDGE FORTIS NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

562611 (XD) 750mL $255.00

TASTING NOTE: The other 2013 offered in my tasting was the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Fortis, which is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec and 3% Merlot. An absolutely spectacular offering from Pine Ridge and one of their all-time great Cabernet Sauvignons, this prodigious blend has an inky purple color to the rim and a gorgeous nose of charcoal, asphalt, graphite, blueberry, blackberry and cassis, while not a trace of oak seems to make it through. The wine is large-scaled, massively extracted, but not without balance. It offers layers and layers of fruit, superb richness, and a long, moderately tannic finish. This is a wine for patient connoisseurs that needs to be put away for a good 4-5 years, but it could have 30-35 years of upside potential in a cold cellar. Drink Date: 2020-2052. Score: 98 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

STONESTREET ROCKFALL CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Rockfall Vineyard, Sonoma County

249367 (XD) 750mL $129.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rockfall Vineyard comes from a high-elevation site of 2,000 to 2,200 feet. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 21 months in 66% new French oak. This vineyard is a south-facing micro-terroir with lots of rocks, and the wine smells of mountain garrigue intermixed with black cherry, blackberry and cassis. The wine is dense, full-bodied, rich and rugged, but not rustic. It is a full-bodied, massive, rather backward and primordial wine for those with the patience to cellar it. Forget it for 5-8 years, and drink it over the following 40+ years. Drink Date: 2021-2064. Score: 95+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

SOTER MINERAL SPRINGS RANCH PINOT NOIR 2015
Yamhill-Carlton, Willamette Valley

424283 (XD) 750mL $115.00

TASTING NOTE: Tons of pressed violets and lavender as well as blueberries, plenty of herbs, cedar, almonds and acacia come through on the nose, before ginseng, ivy and slate kick in. The palate is so structured with intense yet velvety tannins and layers of fruit and spices. Such tension in terms of the fine acidity but intensely full-bodied. A great wine that will age for decades. Drink from 2020 and well beyond. #46 in Top 100 Wines of 2017. Score: 98 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 1, 2017)

NORTH VALLEY ORIGIN SERIES DUNDEE HILLS PINOT NOIR 2014
Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley

554279 (XD) 750mL $

TASTING NOTE: A firm and silky wine with a pumice and dried-strawberry character. Medium- to full-bodied, fine and silky. Bright acidity. Extremely long and polished. I love the texture to this wine. Drink or hold. From environmentally sustainable grapes. Score: 95 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 2, 2016)

NORTH VALLEY ORIGIN SERIES YAMHILL-CARLTON PINOT NOIR 2014
Yamhill-Carlton, Williamette Valley

554287 (XD) 750mL $

TASTING NOTE: Terrific density and intensity here with orange peel, white peaches and strawberries. Full body, great texture and magnificent length. Polished, velvety tannins that remain supple. A wine with great aging potential. Wow. Better in 2019. Score: 96 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Nov. 2, 2016)

DOUBLEBACK CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Walla Walla Valley, Columbia Valley

414235 (XD) 750mL $167.00

TASTING NOTE: A truly fabulous wine is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, which incorporates 7% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec, all of which was aged 22 months in 75% new French oak. This inky colored, sensationally textured and polished 2013 gives up classic young Cabernet notes of cassis, licorice, graphite, sweet oak and spring flowers. Full-bodied, pure and nicely concentrated, it has a solid kick of ripe tannin, and needs to be forgotten for 5-6 years. This beauty will have two to three decades of overall longevity. Drink Date: 2022-2042. Score: 95 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, June 29, 2016)

QUINTA DAS CARVALHAS VINTAGE PORT 2013
DOP

568592 (S) 750mL $77.00

TASTING NOTE: Features plenty of grip to the blackberry, dark plum and raspberry flavors, loaded with Asian spice notes. Hints of dried mint show on dark chocolate-filled finish. Best from 2020 through 2030. Score: 92 (Kim Marcus, winespectator.com, Sept. 30, 2016)
