CHÂTEAU BELLES EAUX CARMIN 2015
AP Languedoc-Pézenas

609453 (XD) 750mL $44.00

TASTING NOTE: A gorgeous Syrah that does everything right, the 2015 Pézenas Carmin gives up ample notes of blackberry jam, cracked pepper, hints of violets and flowers, with plenty of sweet oak in the background. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and layered, with a core of sweet fruit, no hard edges and a great finish, it's a seriously good-looking barrel sample and should also represent a terrific value. Score: 90-92 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, April 28, 2017)

CHÂTEAU KIRWAN 2015
3e cru, AC Margaux

98566 (XD) 750mL $124.00

TASTING NOTE: This rich wine is full of fruit and structured with layers of tannin. It's also stylish and elegant, with a suave texture that is already attractive. Black fruits mix with the structure to give a wine that will age well. Drink from 2026. Editors' Choice. Score: 96 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 1, 2018)

CHÂTEAU BELLEGRAVE 2009
AC Pauillac

571810 (XD) 750mL $87.00

TASTING NOTE: This has muscle, offset by sleek acidity, which lets the steeped blackberry and black currant fruit race along nicely, while the smoldering tobacco and roasted fig notes hang in the background. Solid, with iron-tinged grip on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2023. Score: 91 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, March 31, 2012)

CHÂTEAU LASCOMBES 2009
2er cru, AC Margaux

609917 (XD) 750mL $190.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2009, which is inky blue/purple to the rim, is a final blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot at 14% natural alcohol. The wine has a beautiful blueberry-scented nose with hints of acacia flowers, licorice, graphite and some subtle charcoal and background oak. Clearly a modern style of Margaux, it is pure, seamless, full-bodied and opulent, and the high glycerin and silky texture of 2009 are brilliantly displayed in this wine. Drink it over the next 15+ years, although it is certainly capable of lasting well past two decades. Score: 94 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Dec. 22, 2011)

CHÂTEAU MALESCOT ST-EXUPÉRY 2009
3e cru, AC Margaux

201509 (XD) 750mL $268.00

TASTING NOTE: An inky/purple color is followed by notes of Asian plum sauce, forest floor, creme de cassis, black raspberries and a floral component that is unusual for a Margaux. A wine of exceptional intensity and purity with a full-bodied, sumptuous texture, lots of fresh vibrancy and excellent definition, this beautiful 2009 exhibits high but sweet tannin. It is more sexy than the 2005 was at a similar age, although their level of extract and concentration is relatively equal. Something about the 2009 reminds me of a Margaux version of St.-Julien's Leoville Poyferre...if that makes any sense. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040. This is another fabulous effort from an estate that has been doing extraordinary work over the last 10-15 years. I enjoyed the 2009 as much as the 2005, perhaps even slightly more because while it has structure, the tannins are less aggressive and there is more succulence, flesh and texture in the 2009. Score: 96 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 2012)

CHÂTEAU BATAILLEY 2005
5e cru, AC Pauillac

195529 (XD) 750mL $159.00

TASTING NOTE: Tasted at the Batailley vertical tasting at the château, the 2005 Batailley continues to be an excellent Pauillac that I suspect is overshadowed by some of its more illustrious and, let's not forget, more expensive neighbors. Here, it has an effervescent bouquet with vibrant red berry fruit and superb mineralité. This is extremely well focused, with hints of rose petal emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with finer tannin than in previous years. I feel there is still some oak to be fully absorbed, so don't be afraid to cellar this 2005 for another four or five years; but, even at this early stage, you can appreciate its precision on the graphite-infused finish. The 2005 Batailley is where the estate began its upward swing that is continuing to this day. Tasted April 2016. Drink Date: 2018-2045. Score: 93 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, June 30, 2017)

CHÂTEAU MOURAS 2005
AC Sauternes

561969 (S) 750mL $43.00

TASTING NOTE: This wine is sourced from a single vineyard block and grown in limestone and gravel soils rich in fossil deposits. It's beginning to show some age both in terms of colour and flavour, but it's still impressive, with superb complexity and depth. Beautiful orange marmalade notes lead a parade of apricot jam, peach, honeycomb, toffee, orange citrus and spice. Great balance, texture and body with a long finish. (Vintages panel, Oct. 2017) Score: Gold (Concours de Vins Macon, 2007)

BOUCHARD PÈRE & FILS ANCIENNE CUVÉE CARNOT CAILLERETS VOLNAY 1ER CRU 2016
AC

77016 (XD) 750mL $110.00

The 3.76 hectares of this exceptional premier cru have a particular meaning for Bouchard Père & Fils, since it was the first vineyard bought by the house in 1775. This wine was matured 12-14 months in French oak and is expected to show beautifully until at least 2029. Score: 92 (Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, Burgundy Special Report 2016)

JEAN-CLAUDE BOISSET CLOS DE LA ROCHE GRAND CRU 2016
AC

77339 (XD) 750mL $320.00

TASTING NOTE: A very impressive wine that delivers a wealth of rich red cherries and dark cherries, as well as plums, violets and earthy nuances. A very smooth and plush palate that has an incredibly pure, supple and focused array of vibrant cherry flavors, all encased in fine, long tannins. An elegant, seamless and stylish Burgundy. Drink from 2021. Score: 97-98 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 15, 2018)

JEAN-CLAUDE BOISSET LADOIX HAUTES MOUROTTES 1ER CRU 2016
AC

609743 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: Some attractive graphite and stony notes with an almost tarry edge. The ripe dark cherries have real depth and power. Very intense, long and good. Drink or hold for 10 more years. Score: 92-93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 15, 2018)

JEAN-CLAUDE BOISSET POMMARD 2016
AC

609735 (XD) 750mL $83.00

TASTING NOTE: A blend of two climats (Brescul and La Combotte). This draws on two very different parts of the appellation. A very upbeat style with ripe, red cherries and berries, as well as chocolate and light spices. The palate is very refined. Shows very long and detailed flavors of cherry compote. A long, succulent finish. Superb freshness and dense, fine tannins. Try from 2021. Score: 94 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Feb. 15, 2018)

MAISON ROCHE DE BELLENE VIEILLES VIGNES VOLNAY 2014
AC

299875 (XD) 750mL $64.00

TASTING NOTE: A bright, sleek style, displaying violet, cherry and black currant aromas and flavors. Well-structured and balanced, this lingers with smoke and mineral accents. Terrific length. Best from 2019 through 2032. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, April 30, 2017)

TASTING NOTE: (100% vendange entier; 15% new oak): Good full red. Ripe but shy aromas of small red berries and spices. On the palate, urgent raspberry, strawberry and brown spice flavors are sharpened by crushed stone and pepper elements. In a sappy, mineral-driven style, with savory finishing notes of brown spices, mocha and leather. Energetic and light on its feet. This fruit, from a cold, high, east/northeast-facing site, was picked at 11.7% potential alcohol and chaptalized to 12.5%. Drinking window: 2019-2026. TASTING NOTE: Sumptuous oak spicing and succulent fruit - exemplary grand cru quality. Effortless yet cerebral and engaging. Lovely grippy texture and leisurely, fragrant length. Drink: 2023-2033. Superior. Score: 17.5 (out of 20) (Richard Hemming, MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jan, 10, 2015)

DOMAINE PINSON FRÈRES MONT DE MILIEU CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2016
AC

700914 (XD) 750mL $57.00

TASTING NOTE: Once again strong reduction and sulfur overshadow the underlying fruit today. On the plus side there is both excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the palate soaking flavors that exude evident minerality on the lemony, persistent and very dry but not really austere finale. Drink: 2022+. Sweet spot. Outstanding. Score: 90-92 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 11, 2017)

DOMAINE BESSON VAUDÉSIR GRAND CRU CHABLIS 2015
AC

609834 (XD) 750mL $80.00

TASTING NOTE: This ageworthy wine is full of fruit as well as tense and textured. Coming from this ripe vintage, it offers yellow fruits, ripe acidity, hints of the wood aging and a ripe, rich texture. The minerality is cushioned by opulent fruit that is so enveloping. Drink this fine wine from 2021. Score: 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 1, 2018)

DOMAINE DES MALANDES VAUDÉSIR CHABLIS GRAND CRU 2015
AC

657312 (XD) 750mL $105.00

TASTING NOTE: Moderate wood sets off a moderately exotic mélange of both white and yellow orchard fruit, iodine and citrus scents where the latter element also infuses the more refined middle weight flavors that evidence more minerality on the lingering finish that also displays a hint of wood. Drink: 2020+. Score: 90-92 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 8, 2016)

LOUIS JADOT CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET LES EMBAZÉES 1ER CRU 2015
AC

630194 (XD) 750mL $120.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Embazées has a gorgeous yellow plum, Mirabelle and mango-scented bouquet that seems very pure and very intense. The palate is well balanced with a crisp entry, fine energy here with grilled walnut on the fumé-tinged finish. This sashays along with some style and should be worth seeking out once in bottle. MARCHAND-TAWSE MEURSAULT 2015
AC

285866 (D) 750mL $77.00

The grapes for this wine are sourced from three vineyards that each reflect the nuanced differences in soil types. The Narvaux vineyard, which provides most of the grapes, is on a steep slope and planted in gravelly limestone soils. The Crotots vineyard is predominantly clay with a limestone base and some gravels. The Grand Charrons is very gravelly with limestone and clay and very fertile alluvium soils. The resulting wine will be an elegant, floral, vibrant expression of Meursault, with delicately applied oak.

OLIVIER LEFLAIVE PERNAND-VERGELESSES 2015
AC

524066 (XD) 750mL $63.00

TASTING NOTE: This has a cool reserve, focusing on the minerally, stony side of the flavor spectrum. Lemon, apple and spice notes come to the fore. The spearmint finish is lively and long. Drink now through 2021. Score: 91 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Aug. 31, 2017)

VINCENT GIRARDIN LES CHAUMÉES CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET 1ER CRU 2014
AC

516856 (XD) 750mL $112.00

TASTING NOTE: Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Girardin's 2014 Chassagne Montrachet les Chaumées 1er Cru has a clean, precise, minerally bouquet with pleasant chalk dust aromas filtering through the citrus fruit. I admire the definition and focus of this 2014. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, demonstrating judicious use of oak that allows the terroir to shine through on the finish. There is something "commercial" about this Chassagne-Montrachet but you would still finish a bottle. Drink Date: 2017-2026. Score: 90 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, Oct. 31, 2017)

CLOS DES PAPES CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2016
AC

398305 (XD) 750mL $144.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Paul-Vincent is going to be beauty! As is normal I was able to taste through numerous foudre of different blends, as well as a foudre of the final blend, all of the samples showed distinct, rich, even opulent profile, terrific purity and ripe backbones. The final cuvee shows the classic sweet core of fruit that's the hallmark of this estate, as well as notable complexity in its peppery herbs, dried flowers, scorched earth and graphite aromas and flavors. This is a darker fruited cuvee than normal, and I suspect it's going to rival the 2007 and 2010. Score: 97-100 (Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, Oct. 19, 2017)

LES HAUTS DE MONTMIRAIL GIGONDAS 2016
AC

742551 (XD) 750mL $53.00

TASTING NOTE: One of the top wines at this address, the 2016 Gigondas les Hauts de Montmirail shows incredible perfumed freshness, red raspberry fruit and a full-bodied, richly creamy texture. On top of all that, this blend of 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 25% Mourvèdre shows absolutely no sign of excessive weight or heat despite its enormous ripeness. It should be appealing on release yet capable of aging a decade or more. Drink Date: 2018-2030. Score: 93-95 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Oct. 31, 2017)

AC

579581 (D) 750mL $77.00

TASTING NOTE: Gorgeous, with red currant, fig, boysenberry and blackberry paste flavors that run along in unison, while tightly focused graphite, oolong tea and singed anise hints run underneath. This drips with fruit, but has energy and persistence, with a mineral echo adding cut on the finish. Grenache, Syrah and Counoise. Drink now through 2035. Highly Recommended. FRANÇOIS VILLARD JOUVET CORNAS 2015

609784 (XD) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: This flaunts ripeness, featuring overt raspberry pâte de fruit, cassis and cherry compote notes, yet stays racy, with riveting acidity and a very refined chalky spine, adding violet, black tea and anise details through the finish. Offers a long echo of bay leaf. A beauty. Best from 2020 through 2035. Score: 94 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2017)

J.L. CHAVE SÉLECTION FARCONNET HERMITAGE 2014
AC

387340 (XD) 750mL $75.00

"Farconnet" was the name of a nobleman back in the time of Jean-Louis Chave's great-grandfather. This wine is sourced from vines on three distinctive parcels of the Hermitage hill. The majority comes from the pebbly Diognières, known for particularly spicy wines; Péleat, a sandy site, contributes finesse; and Greffieux, consisting of rolled river stones near the base of the hill, brings structure.

J.L. CHAVE SÉLECTION BLANCHE HERMITAGE BLANC 2014
AC

387357 (XD) 750mL $75.00

Sourced from vines aged 50-60 years, this wine comes mainly from the lieu-dit Maison Blanche, which sits atop the hill of Hermitage. It's aged in barriques for 18-24 months and, while sufficiently structured for the cellar, is approachable in its youth.

MEYER-FONNÉ SPOREN VIEILLES VIGNES GEWURZTRAMINER 2015
AC Alsace Grand Cru

461889 (MS) 750mL $63.00

TASTING NOTE: From loam marl and stony soils, the 2015 Gewurztraminer Sporen Vieilles Vignes opens pure and flinty on the nose, with perfectly ripe pineapple and citrus fruit, as well as grapefruit flavors intermixed with stony flavors of the Sporen terroir. On the palate this wine is rich and sweet, but also finessed and elegant, with a good tannic grip, vibrant acidity and great mineral tension. Crushed mocha beans in the long and smooth, but clear and finessed finish. This is a great Gewurz that needs ten or more years to develop. Highly recommended. Drink Date: 2025-2040. FERNAND ENGEL PRAELATENBERG RIESLING 2014
AC Alsace Grand Cru

582726 (XD) 750mL $37.00

TASTING NOTE: Earth, apple, citrus and herb all mingle on nose. Green apple tinged with chamomile edge strikes against bright lemon on the dry palate. This is full of refreshing citrus and a beautifully understated vigor which will live in this wine for years to come. The finish culminates in a gorgeously tart but ripe apple notion. Very moreish now and approachable but with lots of future promise. Drink 2017-2030. Score: 94 (Anne Krebiehl, MW, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 1, 2017)

GUSTAVE LORENTZ ALTENBERG DE BERGHEIM VIEILLES VIGNES GEWURZTRAMINER 2011
AC Alsace Grand Cru

499673 (M) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: A rather lifted nose of peach and blossom creates a heady opening. There also is the merest hint of vanilla. The palate reprises these notes with creamy vanilla, ripe peach and honeysuckle. Warmth is palpable on this rather luscious, incredibly generous and still-evolving wine. The finish is beautifully corralled into zesty sweetness by ripe lemon. This is layered and complex and must be savored slowly. It will continue to develop. Drink 2017-2027. CRISTAL BRUT CHAMPAGNE 2009

350173 (XD) 1500mL $788.00

TASTING NOTE: The latest incarnation of this famous Champagne now comes from Roederer's own vineyards, a good portion of which are run on biodynamic lines. This still-young wine has great depth and richness, a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and crisp texture that make it alive, crisp and bright. As it matures, it will deepen and become even more intense. Drink now if you must, but preferably wait until 2019. Cellar Selection. TASTING NOTE: The lovely nose of acacia blossom, toast and graphite leads to flavors of poached quince, fleur de sel, white cherry, lemon pith and almond skin in this dry and harmonious Champagne. Almost airy and ethereal in texture, yet the finely woven flavor range goes on and on, echoing on the finish. Disgorged June 2017. Drink now through 2034. TASTING NOTE: This limited release Champagne has been aged on its lees in Gosset's cellars for a minimum of 15 years. While it does have some maturity and toasty character, its freshness is extraordinary. The crisp fruit is still there, evoking ripe apples with an almond- and spice-laced edge. It's ready to drink. KRUG GRANDE CUVÉE BRUT CHAMPAGNE 166ÈME ÉDITION
AC

38562 (XD) 750mL $305.00

Krug strives for consistency with this non-vintage grande cuvée, so it should show similar characteristics and quality regardless of disgorgement date.

TASTING NOTE: This mouthwatering Champagne shows a lovely sense of finesse, with firm acidity deftly married to a rich profile of crème de cassis, toasted brioche and lime blossom, accented by hints of café au lait, singed orange peel and exotic spice. Long and plush on the finish. Disgorged 2014. Score: 95 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2016)

MOËT & CHANDON MCIII CHAMPAGNE
AC

470575 (XD) 750mL $647.00

TASTING NOTE: ... Moët seeks the perfect "balance between harmony and generous complexity" by blending young vintages aged in stainless steel vats (I), with matured vintages aged in oak casks (II), and rare vintages aged in glass bottles (III) ... steel-fermented vins clairs of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the vintage 2003, which were blended together in 2004 and comprise 40% of the cuvée (I); another 40% blends the declared vintages 2002, 2000 and 1998 that were mainly fermented in large oak vats and kept as vins clairs for Moët's Grand Vintage (II); and the final 20% assembles the Grand Vintage Collection Champagnes 1999, 1998 and 1993, which had already undergone the second fermentation, but had not been disgorged yet (III). The "ultimate expression of blending" was created in 2004 and kept for ten years on the lees of the second (respectively third) fermentation. The cuvée 001.14 was disgorged in 2014 as Brut with a dosage of four or five grams per liter. The expensive wine offers a fascinatingly deep and concentrated bouquet that is very clear and fresh in its fruit aromas, but also delivers complex secondary aromas of coffee, nougat, biscuits and many more flavors. Full-bodied, ripe and intense on the palate, this is a rich and powerful, yet round and highly elegant cuvée of great complexity and persistence. It is stunningly fresh and pairs fruity aromas with nutty and spicy flavors, revealing a delicate tannin structure and a very long, salty and mineral finish ... Drink: 2020-2040. GUNDERLOCH NACKENHEIM ROTHENBERG RIESLING SPÄTLESE 2016
Prädikatswein

724922 (S) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: Lime, white peach and tangerine are topped by high-toned almond extract and mock-orange floral perfume on a head-turning nose. Site-typical smoky notes are also aromatically in evidence. Piquant peach kernel and hickory nut serve for welcome counterpoint on a subtly creamy yet brightly juicy palate, leading to a vibrant, buoyant finish that offers consummate refreshment. The sweetness here is perfectly suited to reinforcing hints of quince jelly that point toward the fruit's advanced ripeness and light touch of botrytis, even as animating citricity confirms it efficacious acidity. TASTING NOTE: This isn't just a great wine for what was a notoriously cool, wet vintage, it's quite simply a magnificent wine. Perfumed and loaded with finesse, it opens with scents of woodland berry, iris and baking spice while the vibrant, balanced palate doles out Marasca cherry, dark culinary spice, crushed herb and menthol. Refined tannins and fresh acidity provide the taut framework while a licorice note wraps around the finish. Gorgeous. Drink 2022-2034. Cellar Selection. GAJA CONTEISA BAROLO 2014
DOCG

630137 (XD) 750mL $367.00

TASTING NOTE: Gaja's 2014 Barolo Conteisa is a jewel of a wine. Translucent, energetic and vibrant, it offers striking precision, with lovely salinity and bright acids that lift the red berry flavors. Conteisa is always a wine that leans toward the more delicate side of things. In 2014, all of those signatures are brought out by the personality of the year. This is one of the best recent Conteisas I can remember tasting, as well as a wine that feels natural and unforced. Drinking window: 2020-2039. Score: 96 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Feb. 2018)

MARCHESI DI BAROLO SARMASSA 2014
DOCG

583559 (XD) 1500mL $188.00

TASTING NOTE: Of Marchesi di Barolo's three single-vineyard Barolo expressions, the 2014 Barolo Sarmassa is the wine that gives the most structured fruit and textural richness. The bouquet offers dark fruits with plum and blackberry. The mouthfeel is velvety and nicely layered with fine tannins and bright acidity. This cool vintage expression already shows the immediate qualities to pair it with meat dishes or oven-roasted pasta. The wine ages in both barrique and botte grande. Drink Date: 2020-2035. MONTEFICO RISERVA BARBARESCO 2013
DOCG

355222 (D) 750mL $87.00

TASTING NOTE: I am absolutely impressed by the stunning 2013 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico. The Montefico growing site is very small and only 13,000 bottles are produced as a result. There are just three farmers who tend to this vineyard cru, and because their respective plots are very small, they rely on the Produttori del Barbaresco co-operative model for survival. This wine shows amazing depth and enlarged dimension. Aromas of black fruit, spice, tar and crushed mineral contribute to the considerable volume and power of the wine. That precise and focused mineral definition is outstanding, recalling brimstone and pencil shavings. Montefico can underperform in the hot vintages, but it hits all the high notes in the cooler 2013. Drink Date: 2022-2045. Score: 96+ (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, June 29, 2018)

TASTING NOTE: New leather, tilled earth, dark spice, underbrush and a balsamic note mingle together on this compelling red. Not a powerhouse, but this racehorse should go the distance. Drink now through 2030. Score: 93 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Nov. 30, 2017)

REMO FARINA MONTEFANTE RISERVA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2011
DOCG

63636 (D) 750mL $81.00

This is always a powerhouse Amarone, but one that keeps a firm grip on balance and is never overwhelming. Look for a mix of ripe and dried black fruit character with underlying forest tones, leather, vanilla, herbs and spice. This is a wine built to age; consider following its evolution for another 5-10 years. Serve with hearty beef stews, braised beef or fine cheeses.

GIUSEPPE QUINTARELLI AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2009
DOC

402149 (D) 750mL $465.00

"The last time I visited this historic estate, Giuseppe Quintarelli was alive and I photographed him in the soft afternoon light with his beloved Negrar landscape at his back. So much has changed here since his passing in 2012. His daughter Fiorenza and her children have refurbished the winery with modern touches and new spaces, added new barrels (with beautiful wood carvings on the front panels dedicated to various family members) and have expanded the estate's commercial reach." (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, May 31, 2017)

CAVE DI PRUN RISERVA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2007
DOC

499889 (XD) 750mL $63.00

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of mature black-skinned berry, leather, pressed violet, baking spice and a balsamic note slowly emerge on this full-bodied red. The firmly structured palate offers dried black cherry, fig, mocha, tobacco and licorice alongside a backbone of fine-grained tannins. A coffee note closes the finish. Drink through 2022. Score: 93 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 31, 2016)

EMILIO MORO MALLEOLUS 2015
DO Ribera del Duero

452581 (XD) 750mL $49.00

TASTING NOTE: This generous red delivers rich flavors of blackberry, currant, toast and mineral, which are harmonious over the well-integrated tannins, showing firm acidity for balance and a long finish of spice and smoke. Not showy, but deep and alluring. Drink now through 2030. Score: 93 (Tim Matthews, winespectator.com, Nov. 30, 2017)

TINTO PESQUERA RESERVA 2012
DO Ribera del Duero

323345 (XD) 750mL $46.00

TASTING NOTE: Initial cola and root-beer aromas precede floral berry scents. A strict palate is firm but avoids crushing weight. Narrow plum, currant and berry flavors are focused and framed by roaring tannins. This is still young and tough, but with great potential; drink from 2019-2035. Cellar Selection. Score: 93 (Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2018)

NUMANTHIA 2011
DO Toro

260927 (XD) 750mL $69.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Numanthia is a powerful and concentrated Tempranillo with abundant aromas of peat, tar, shoe polish and ripe dark fruit with hints of minerality and a marked earthiness. The palate is warm, with noticeable alcohol that seems to coat the tannins while the acidity is barely enough to provide freshness for such an amount of glycerol. With time, the aromas are clearly from the barrel: dark chocolate, espresso coffee and toasted bread. XXL for sure, for fans of the style. Drink Date: 2015-2019. Score: 92 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2014)

FOREIGN AFFAIR APOLOGETIC RED 2015
VQA Niagara Peninsula

471516 (M) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: This is made from 100% Cabernet Franc with 50% of the grapes dried appassimento style for two months before pressing and the final blend aged in French and American oak (40% new) for 18 months. So, a big, heady nose of figs, black currants, kirsch, leather, blackberries, mature red fruits and a range of barrel oak spices. It has incredible depth of fruit on the palate, from dark cassis and currants to fortified cherry/raspberry notes with added Espresso bean, spice, anise, a mélange of integrated herbs, smooth tannins and a long, long finish. A very big wine that will need [time] in the cellar. Score: 92 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, April 13, 2018)

VINELAND ESTATE RESERVE CABERNET FRANC 2015
VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment

205369 (XD) 750mL $50.00

TASTING NOTE: For the Reserve Cab Franc, Schmidt still only uses neutral oak barrels but ups the time spent to 18 months. This is the top expression of his favourite grape and the result is a fabulous treat for Cab Franc lovers. The nose is ripe and fulsome with purity of black currants, cassis, underlying cherry, leather, vanilla bean, cocoa and herbs that come at you in waves. On the palate, it perfectly demonstrates how a wine can straddle that line between fresh and ripe with concentrated blackberries, currants, cassis followed by herb, anise and spice accents in a textured, complex style from beginning to end. This is a beautiful wine that is drinking really fine right now but can improve in the bottle for 4+ years. Score: 93 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, Nov. 22, 2017)

BINDI ORIGINAL VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2015

622563 (XD) 750mL $114.00

TASTING NOTE: 27yo MV6 clone, hand-picked, 95% whole berries, 5% whole bunches, 16 days on skins, matured for 15 months in French barriques (30% new). The brilliantly clear colour signals a super-fragrant wine, spicy/savoury nuances attesting to the very cool climate of the Macedon Ranges, its balance and length impeccable. Drink By: 2030. PEPPER TREE COQUUN SINGLE VINEYARD SHIRAZ 2014
Hunter Valley, New South Wales

483461 (XD) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: Grown on the Tallawanta vineyard, planted in 1920. It's a wine of balance, power and length, the pirouette of savoury-spicy-cherried flavours anchored by fine-set tannin and ripe cherry-leather fruit. Exquisite integration of oak. Elegance and the haunt thereafter. Drink By: 2035. Score: 95 (Campbell Mattinson, winecompanion.com.au, Oct. 6, 2016)

STELLA BELLA SERIE LUMINOSA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Margaret River, Western Australia

492942 (XD) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: Bright, clear crimson-purple - quite striking; a wine made without any compromise in the fruit selection or in the vinification, with a long pedigree of prior vintages of high quality. The bouquet is perfumed, the medium-bodied palate with a full array of cassis, redcurrant and blueberry fruits, bay leaf and superfine, but persistent tannins. Oh, and yes, French oak does make a contribution. Score: 97 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 1, 2017)

PENFOLDS GRANGE SHIRAZ 2013
South Australia

468827 (XD) 750mL $975.00

TASTING NOTE: This vintage is a blend of 96% Shiraz and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, coming from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra and Magill Estate. Very deep inky purple-black colored, the 2013 Grange has a profoundly scented nose of crème de cassis, preserved black plums, blueberry pie and licorice over nuances of baker's chocolate, smoky bacon and fragrant earth, plus exotic spice wafts of cumin seed, cardamom, fenugreek and star anise. Unfurling and slowly building in the medium to full-bodied mouth with wonderful grace and depth, it reveals an incredible array of ripe black fruit, spice, meat and earth-inspired flavors, with a rock-solid frame to support this beauty (it should easily cellar for 40+ years!), while previously latent flavors emerge fully on the epically long finish, culminating in that ultimate Grange experience. Oh, yes. Drink Date: 2024-2057. Score: 100 (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Oct. 31, 2017)

BURN COTTAGE PINOT NOIR 2015
Central Otago, South Island

578054 (XD) 750mL $79.00

TASTING NOTE: Very attractive pinot noir with a trademark expression of subtle power. A refined mix of savoury, fresh herb, cherry, berry and subtle floral notes together with a suggestion of subtle mineral notes. The wine has an ethereal texture and surprisingly lengthy finish. Should develop well with bottle age. Drink: 2017 to 2024. Score: 97 (Bob Campbell, MW, bobcampbell.nz, Jan. 5, 2017)

VILLA MARIA SINGLE VINEYARD SOUTHERN CLAYS PINOT NOIR 2014

466060 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: Exciting bouquet - immensely floral with wild flowers, wild red berries, warm summer air and intensely mineral. Fresh, crunchy, juicy palate, dry stone, dusty clay, abundant tannins, complex, long finish. Drink: 2017-2025. Score: 95 (Decanter, Dec. 2015)

CATENA ZAPATA NICASIA MALBEC 2014
Uco Valley, Mendoza

510941 (XD) 750mL $97.00

TASTING NOTE: The Catena Zapata range comprises some single-vineyard wines, like the 2014 Malbec Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard that comes from a plot of ungrafted vines planted in Altamira in 1996 using Malbec cuttings from the ancient Angélica vineyard. Cropped from a year that delivered moderate alcohol and notable acidity, it fermented with full clusters in 2,000- and 5,000-liter oak foudres with indigenous yeasts. It matured in French oak barrels for 24 months. This shows superbly and is open and expressive, very classical and elegant, floral and mineral, with no excess whatsoever. The palate reveals superb balance, really harmonious and elegant. This one might be overlooked because there is a lot of attention given to the Malbecs from Adrianna vineyard, but this is really at the same quality level. Drink Date: 2018-2024. Score: 96 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, June 29, 2018)

CATENA ZAPATA WHITE BONES ADRIANNA VINEYARD CHARDONNAY 2015
Mendoza

514844 (XD) 750mL $119.00

TASTING NOTE: I had two vintages to taste from the two whites from Adrianna Vineyard, which provided a fascinating comparison. Like all the rest, the 2015 White Bones Chardonnay had a long fermentation with wild yeasts and aged in French barriques for some 12 to 16 months, depending on the lot. It's fascinating to compare this with the 2016 and with both years from the White Stones. This is the more exuberant, open, aromatic and balsamic of the four wines, while it is still very young and fresh. The palate is also very expressive and combines power with elegance and freshness. It's long, tasty and mineral, with a salty finish. Score: 96 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, June 29, 2018)

CASAS DEL BOSQUE PRIVATE RESERVE GRAN BOSQUE 2014
DO Maipo Valley

578070 (XD) 750mL $69.00

Shows concentrated dark chocolate and creamy notes on the plush and well-spiced finish. Delivers impressive concentration and length. Drink now through 2022. Score: 94 (Kim Marcus, winespectator.com, March 31, 2018)

MONTES PURPLE ANGEL 2011
Colchagua Valley

578039 (XD) 750mL $85.00

TASTING NOTE: This is a crazy red with dried chipotle and red chili pepper character with hints of dark fruits. Blueberry concentration. Full body, with fabulous fruit and an underlying firm tannin structure. Very silky tannins. This is the best carmenere-based red from Chile. 92% carmenere and 8% petit verdot. CLIFF LEDE POETRY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2015
Stags Leap District, Napa Valley

14209 (XD) 750mL $385.00

TASTING NOTE: A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry spent 21 months in French oak prior to bottling. It too is inky purple/blue colored and offers heavenly notes of graphite, liquid rocks, crushed violets, blueberries, charcoal and cassis. Fabulously concentrated, opulent, layered, and ripe, with serious amounts of tannin that come out with time in the glass, this monumental beauty should only be purchased by patient consumers as it's going to need 7-8 years or more of cellaring. Score: 100 (Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, Dec. 29, 2017)

FEL SAVOY VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2015
Anderson Valley, Mendocino County

309443 (D) 750mL $110.00

TASTING NOTE: Sleek, vivid and sophisticated, this wine wows with fresh, concentrated tones. There's a sense of taut balance between acidity and ripeness, with a laser focus of raspberry, cherry and strawberry flavors that extend the finish for minutes. This great wine from a celebrated vineyard is an excellent choice for the cellar, best enjoyed after 2023. Cellar Selection. Score: 97 (Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast, June 2018)

RAYMOND GENERATIONS CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2015
Napa Valley

941492 (XD) 750mL $130.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Generations is deep garnet-purple in color with an earthy, dried herbs and scorched earth-scented nose over a core of blackberry pie and cassis with Indian spices and menthol. Full-bodied, concentrated and rich in the mouth, with firm, grainy tannins and a savory/earthy character, it finishes long with a mineral hint. Drink Date: 2020-2040. BLACKBIRD VINEYARDS PARAMOUR PROPRIETARY RED 2014
Napa Valley

363051 (XD) 750mL $125.00

TASTING NOTE: Another terrific example of Blackbird is the 2014 Proprietary Red Paramour, a fabulous blend of 84% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. The Cabernet Franc comes from the Stagecoach Vineyard. Consultant Aaron Pott said he thinks they have a magical spot for it on that large eastern Napa Valley mountain site. This is terrific stuff from the super-intense fragrance of white flowers and forest floor to the blueberry, black raspberry and graphite notes. The wine hits the palate with dazzling fruit intensity, loads of glycerin, a round, juicy, succulent mouthfeel, a layered personality and a long, supple finish. Drink it now or over the next 15+ years. Drink Date: 2016-2031. Score: 95 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016)

402123 (XD) 750mL $265.00

TASTING NOTE: This blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc is a beauty. Dense ruby/purple, with notes of camphor, incense, blue and black fruits and forest floor, the wine hits the palate with a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, beautiful fruit purity, integrated acidity, tannin and an elegant, long finish. OVID RED 2014
Napa Valley

328120 (XD) 750mL $510.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Ovid has really come together nicely since I last tasted it a few months ago. From the beginning, the 2014 has had a slightly raw, unevolved feel that has gradually resolved itself, allowing the wine's pure power and gravitas to come through. Plush, dark and somewhat somber, the 2014 shows the clear effects of the drought in its inward personality. I would prefer to give the 2014 at least another few years in the cellar. Drinking window: 2020-2029. Score: 96 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, March 2018)

ROY ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

630764 (XD) 750mL $319.00

TASTING NOTE: Black cherry, bittersweet chocolate, menthol, licorice, pine and licorice are some of the signatures in the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. Bold, ripe and flamboyant, the 2013 is one of the few wines in this vintage that won't require considerable time in bottle to drink well. As always, this is an especially opulent, ripe style. Drinking window: 2017-2025. Score: 94 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Dec. 2016)

HEITZ MARTHA'S VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012
Napa Valley

456855 (XD) 750mL $399.00

TASTING NOTE: The just-released vintage of Martha's Vineyard is another youthful classic from Heitz, bursting with notes of black cherry, mint chocolate, cigar box and spice. On the palate the wine is ample, concentrated and fresh, with more intensity and drive than many of the supple wines this easygoing vintage produced. Its inherent complexity needs time to unfurl. Drinking Window: 2020-2040. Score: 96 (William Kelley, decanter.com, undated)

AUBERT LARRY HYDE & SONS CHARDONNAY 2016
Carneros

390831 (XD) 750mL $195.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2016 Chardonnay Larry Hyde and Sons is so delicate, precise and nuanced. In 2016, the Hyde leans more towards the citrus end of the spectrum. Candied lemon peel and lifted floral notes are some of the signatures in this striking, beautifully delineated Chardonnay. In most vintages, Hyde tends to give a decidedly forward style of Chardonnay. Mark Aubert's 2016 is all finesse. Drinking window: 2018-2030. Score: 97 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, April 2018)

TRISAETUM RIBBON RIDGE ESTATE PINOT NOIR 2015
Willamette Valley

634634 (XD) 750mL $70.00

TASTING NOTE: Deep bright red. Intense red berry liqueur, rose pastille and smoky mineral aromas, along with hints of cola and Asian spices. Appealingly sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering sharply focused black raspberry, boysenberry and musky rhubarb flavors and a building suggestion of spicecake. Silky, slow-building tannins give shape and grip to the fruit-driven finish, which lingers with outstanding persistence and building sweetness. Drinking window: 2022-2028. TASTING NOTE: Dark red. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe red berries, cherry cola and Asian spices develop a subtle mineral quality in the glass. Sweet and velvety in the mouth, offering deep-pitched red berry liqueur, vanilla and smoky mineral qualities and a touch of allspice. Very long and appealingly sweet on the close, where slow-building tannins add framework and gentle grip. Drinking window: 2020-2025. Score: 92 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, Dec. 2016)

ISOLE E OLENA VIN SANTO DEL CHIANTI CLASSICO 2007
DOC

25684 (S) 375mL $67.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2007 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico (375-milliliters) aims high in terms of residual sugar (at 215 grams per liter), but you'd hardly know. This dessert wine shows great integration with sweet notes of candied fruit, honey, caramel and almond marzipan. There are floral notes as well with jasmine and honeysuckle, but you also get dusty mineral tones and some herbal notes tucked in at the back. This is a medium-bodied wine with enough balanced acidity to keep it light, tonic and refreshing. As always, Isole e Olena produces one of the most elegant and ethereal Vin Santos in Chianti Classico. Drink Date: 2017-2040. Score: 94 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, April 28, 2017)

DELAFORCE VINTAGE PORT 2003

BURMESTER COLHEITA PORT 1989
DOC

482851 (S) 750mL $92.00

TASTING NOTE: ... Fresh and balanced, with a feeling of liveliness, this is more about restraint and elegance than mid-palate weight, but it shows fine concentration of flavor on the finish and delivers more than adequate mid-palate concentration as well. It also has more power than anticipated on first taste. Tightening fast as it warms, its fresh feel [is] laced with just a touch of Whiskey that provides the perfect counterweight to the tension on the finish and fine flavors. It is a bit understated, but lovely. Drink 2015-2055. Score: 93 (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

VALDESPINO CARDENAL PALO CORTADO VORS
DO Jerez

571604 (XD) 375mL $197.00

TASTING NOTE: The NV Palo Cortado Cardenal VORS, like the whole VORS collection from Valdespino is outstanding. It is fed from the solera of the Palo Cortado C.P. where the Palomino grapes come from the Macharnudo Alto vineyard, fermented in American oak botas. It's 22% alcohol and has nine grams of (undetectable) residual sugar which makes it very drinkable. It's a monumental wine of dark mahogany color with a green edge, a complex, ever-changing, concentrated, clean and delineated nose of spices, dark chocolate, Cuban cigar and balsamic notes of incense, and a sharp, saline palate. It is highly concentrated, powerful and clean, with an eternal, lingering aftertaste. Deciding between Coliseo and Cardenal might be splitting hairs, and as much as I love Coliseo, I felt Cardenal was just one notch above. At the quality helm of Palo Cortado. Drink Date: 2013-2025. Score: 99 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 28, 2013)

VALDESPINO TONELES MOSCATEL
DO Jerez

492660 (S) 375mL $299.00

TASTING NOTE: The NV Moscatel Toneles has reached a mythical status locally in Spain. It's an extremely old, concentrated and powerful sweet wine that was long forgotten, because there was no market for it. The color is dark brown, almost opaque with amber-green edges. The ever-changing nose is an explosion of spices (curry and cinnamon) and noble woods, and from the sheer concentration it displays a myriad of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, balsamic herbs and even a note of coconut. After some time in the glass the roasted orange notes of Muscat come back intermixed with very spicy incense notes. Give it more time and it smells of camphor. It's fascinating to smell it over the course of a few hours - even days. The palate is immensely concentrated, with the alcohol perfectly integrated and the extreme sweetness compensated by a piercing acidity that reminds me of some century-old Madeiras. It ends with an acute coffee note. The aftertaste is eternal. It is exceptional that such an old wine (it could be over 80 years of average age) keeps the freshness and balance, but when this happens, the wine is exceptional. A world-class sweet wine that shows what aged Muscat is able for. With its 430 grams of residual sugar, this wine is indestructible, but only 100 bottles are withdrawn and bottled yearly from a single, large cask. Drink 2013-2034. Score: 100 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 28, 2013)

THE MACALLAN REFLEXION HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

414250 750mL $1,603.00

"For Reflexion, the Macallan's master whisky maker, Bob Dalgarno, primarily selected whiskies matured in first-fill sherry-seasoned oak. A high proportion of those whiskies were aged in smaller hogshead casks, a process that intensifies color and flavor because the relatively larger surface area of wood interacts more with the distillate. A small percentage of American oak-aged whiskies combined with the sherry-aged spirits to create a final product with strong floral and citrus notes intertwined with fresh apple, raisin, and apricot flavors." (Richard Carleton Hacker, robbreport.com, Jan. 1, 2015)

THE MACALLAN SHERRY OAK 25-YEAR-OLD HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

179150 750mL $2,200.00

TASTING NOTE: The nose is gentle, with plenty of cooked orange mixed with cinnamon, clove, and almost a paprika hint. The palate is where all the richness is - bags of fruitcake, dried fruit, and glacé cherry. Once you swallow it, it just seems to go on forever, with toffee cream and spices. (1001 Whiskies You Must Taste Before You Die, 2012, 2012)

THE MACALLAN SHERRY OAK 30-YEAR-OLD HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

629329 750mL $4,000.00

This remarkable 30-Year-Old Highland Single Malt is the jewel in the crown of The Macallan's Sherry Oak range, which features a series of single malt whiskies matured exclusively in Sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez hand-picked for richness and complexity. One of the most exquisite libations in the whisky world, it would make an unforgettable gift.
