ESK VALLEY WINEMAKERS RANGE SYRAH 2013
Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay, North Island

533984 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: Fermented in open-top concrete fermenters (unusual in NZ, common in the Rhône). Intense, rich Syrah - plum, berry and exotic spice flavours with a more savoury, roasted coffee influence. A weighty red with a long finish. Drinking Window: 2015-2024. Score: 97 (Bob Campbell, MW, decanter.com, Sept. 10, 2015)

CHÂTEAU CANTEMERLE 2010
5e cru, AC Haut-Médoc

633461 (XD) 750mL $126.00

TASTING NOTE: The wine needs a good 7-10 years of cellaring and should keep for 30 more years, but this is the finest Cantemerle I have encountered in my professional career of tasting young vintages (dating back 34 years now). Stunningly deep ruby/purple, with a beautiful nose of spring flowers intermixed with perfumed raspberry and blueberry notes, it exhibits a sort of cool-climate character. Broad, rich and intense on the palate, the wine has plenty of tannins, but they are sweet and well-integrated. Everything is delicately entwined into this beautiful, medium to full-bodied, dense purple wine, which shows stunning character and a prodigious potential for development. This is definitely a major sleeper of the vintage and even better than I thought from barrel. With its 2010, this classified growth located in the southern end of the Medoc may well have made a modern-day version of their legendary 1949. Drink: 2020-2050. Score: 94+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Feb. 27, 2013)

CHÂTEAU LA TOUR DU PIN FIGEAC 2009
AC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

524637 (XD) 750mL $75.00

Bordeaux's 2009 vintage was one that got the wine world excited, and with good reason. It certainly stands as one of the great vintages of this century. At this point in their evolution, the 2009s from Saint-Émilion are showing great elegance, excellent restraint and impressive vitality. From the Giraud family, this 2009 will be a refined, sophisticated take on a stellar vintage.

CLOS DU MARQUIS 2005
AC Saint-Julien

462218 (XD) 750mL $179.00

TASTING NOTE: The superb second wine, the 2005 Clos du Marquis, reflects the utter brilliance of the 2005 grand vin. It boasts an inky/ruby/purple color along with a sweet perfume of lead pencil, ripe cherries and black currants, and hints of earth and vanillin. Dense, chewy, fleshy, and full-bodied, this beauty will be drinkable in 3-4 years, and should keep for 15-20. Drink: 2011-2028. Score: 91 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, April 2008)

DAVID MOREAU MARANGES 2015
AC

610444 (XD) 750mL $43.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Maranges is one of the more juicy, overt wines in the range. A dollop of whole clusters (around 20%) adds aromatic complexity and freshness to the creamy, layered fruit. Red cherry, stone fruit and floral notes all flesh out effortlessly. The Maranges is perhaps a bit less refined than some of the other wines in this range, but it is also flat-out delicious. The 2015 is a blend of two parcels, one of them Cheilly, a villages, and the second Clos Roussots, which is a declassified 1er Cru. Drinking window: 2017-2023. Score: 89-91 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, June 2017)

MARCHAND-TAWSE SAVIGNY-LÈS-BEAUNE LES LAVIÈRES 1ER CRU 2015
AC

487371 (XD) 750mL $64.00

TASTING NOTE: This is also sufficiently reduced to make a judgment about the nose tough. Otherwise there is a refined mouth feel to the delicious and discreetly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess a lilting quality to the well-balanced finale. This is really quite good and worth a look. Drink: 2022+. Score: 89-92 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Jan. 15, 2017)

DOMAINE RENÉ BOUVIER LES JEUNES ROIS GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 2014
AC

496802 (XD) 750mL $85.00

TASTING NOTE: The fine harmony of the black cherry, black currant and refined oak makes for an enticing red. Refined tannins and lively acidity lend support. A mineral note emerges as this builds to a lingering finish. Best from 2022 through 2040. Score: 93 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, May 31, 2017)

DOMAINE WILLIAM FÈVRE BEAUROY CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2016
AC

907733 (XD) 750mL $55.00

TASTING NOTE: A mildly exotic but still agreeably fresh nose combines notes of viognier, mango and white peach. The impressively rich and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors possess excellent concentration and despite the high ripeness level, the balance is saved by the citrus-tinged acid spine on the sneaky long and relatively dry finale. Drink: 2020+. Score: 88-91 (Allen Meadows, burghound.com, Oct. 11, 2017)

MAISON LEROY CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET LES VERGERS 1ER CRU 2011
AC

574715 (XD) 750mL $860.00

In 1955, Marcelle Leroy (more commonly and affectionately known as Lalou) took over the operation of Maison Leroy from her father, Henri. At the time, her father was determined to focus his attention on Domaine de la Romanée Conti - yes, that Domaine de la Romanée Conti. Lalou's skill as a taster made her a particularly astute choice to head up operations at Maison Leroy. Many producers in Burgundy in the early 1950s were blending cheaper wines from southern France and Algeria into their own. Lalou could not be fooled, and her ability to assess and identify authentic wines quickly set her and the Maison apart. For 63 vintages, she has collected and matured some of the finest wines in all of Burgundy for Maison Leroy - a task that has become more challenging as the number of growers producing wines under their own labels has increased in recent decades. Accordingly, the competition for top-quality remaining juice has become more intense; this is where Lalou shines. One of her measuring sticks is that the wines of Maison Leroy must approach the level of quality, provenance and refinement she attains in her own biodynamic vineyards at Domaine Leroy. The wines of Maison Leroy provide unique insight into Burgundy: insights forged through an uncompromising drive for quality.

CHÂTEAU DES JACQUES CLOS DE ROCHEGRÈS MOULIN-À-VENT 2015
AC

737494 (XD) 750mL $47.00

TASTING NOTE: Youthful violet. Powerful, mineral-accented cassis, cherry and violet scents pick up vanilla and woodsmoke nuances in the glass. Stains the palate with chewy dark berry, bitter cherry and mocha flavors that take a sweeter turn on the back half. Continues to open up on the impressively persistent finish, which features dusty tannins and a whiplash of sappy dark fruit. Drinking window: 2022-2028. Score: 93 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, Dec. 2017)

DOMAINE CHANTE CIGALE VIEILLES VIGNES CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015
AC

73551 (D) 750mL $95.00

TASTING NOTE: Fermented in stainless steel, matured in demi-muids and old barriques for 18 months. Liquorice and a little hint of bitter roots and root beer. This has remarkable freshness and energy on the palate. It's powerful, but light on its feet like a boxer. It's deep and serious, but fresh and drinkable, really dynamic in style. Chante-Cigale seems to be going in an increasingly positive direction of late, with even their Cuvée Spéciale and their white accentuating drinkability and elegance. Drink Date: 2018-2028. Score: 95 (Matt Walls, timatkin.com, Rhône Special Report 2015)

J. L. CHAVE SÉLECTION OFFERUS SAINT-JOSEPH 2015
AC

359109 (XD) 750mL $39.00

TASTING NOTE: Opaque ruby. Deep-pitched black and blue fruit, floral pastille, olive and smoky mineral character on the nose. Sweet, spicy and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy blueberry and cherry cola flavors underscored by a peppery quality that adds back-end spiciness and cut. Youthfully firm tannins add shape to the finish, which hangs on with impressive, dark-berry-driven tenacity. Drinking window: 2022-2030. Score: 92 (Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, April 2018)

E. GUIGAL LA LANDONNE CÔTE-RÔTIE 2014
AC

393389 (XD) 750mL $499.00

TASTING NOTE: Probably the wine of the vintage is the 2014 Côte Rôtie La Landonne, a beauty that gives up everything you could want from Côte Rôtie. Cassis, tobacco leaf, graphite, crushed rocks and peppery meat notes all emerge from this concentrated, full-bodied 2014 that has a Bordeaux like tannin structure. It certainly bucks the vintage stereotype and has real density and depth. Give bottles 3-5 years and enjoy over the following 20-25 years. Score: 97-99 (Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, Jan. 24, 2018)

E. GUIGAL LA MOULINE CÔTE-RÔTIE 2014
AC

393413 (XD) 750mL $499.00

TASTING NOTE: Still aging in barrel, the 2014 Cote Rotie La Mouline is really charming, sexy stuff. Soaring florals emerge from the glass, accompanied by notes of dark fruit, espresso and grilled meat. Silky and seductive, it should drink well young yet be capable of developing for 20 years. Drink Date: 2020-2035. Score: 95-97 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Dec. 29, 2017)

E. GUIGAL LA TURQUE CÔTE-RÔTIE 2014
AC

131078 (XD) 750mL $499.00

TASTING NOTE: Still in barrel, the 2014 Cote Rotie La Turque shows classy floral aromas and red raspberries upfront, then delivers herbal notes, layers of red fruit and lithe, wiry structure on the medium to full-bodied palate. It manages to be silky in texture yet firm at the same time, concentrated yet seemingly weightless, and long on the finish. Drink Date: 2025-2040. Score: 94-96 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Dec. 29, 2017)

RENÉ MURÉ CÔTE DE ROUFFACH RIESLING 2015
AC Alsace

634741 (XD) 750mL $32.00

TASTING NOTE: A firm, minerally white, with fragrant slate, pine and spice notes leading to poached quince, graphite and almond blossom flavors. Dry and harmonious, offering a long, racy finish. Drink now through 2030. Score: 93 (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Nov. 30, 2017)

POL ROGER BRUT BLANC DE BLANCS EXTRA CUVÉE DE RÉSERVE CHAMPAGNE 2009
AC

96685 (XD) 750mL $119.00

TASTING NOTE: Let it breathe a few minutes in the glass and Pol Roger's 2009 Brut Blanc de Blancs becomes truly exciting! Sourced in Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize and Oger (all grands crus from the Côte des Blancs), the wine opens with an intensely chalky, fresh and concentrated bouquet of white and yellow-fleshed fruits along with floral and spicy seed flavors as well as notes of wet, crushed limestone. Very deep but always pure and fresh. And so chalky! Full-bodied yet straight and fresh, with vibrating minerality and great finesse, this is a super elegant, tightly woven and persistent but weightless Côte des Blancs with a long, fresh and salty finish. This Cuvée was aged for seven years on the lees before being disgorged on May 30th, 2017. Drink Date: 2018-2033. Score: 94 (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, June 29, 2018)

CHARLES HEIDSIECK RESERVE ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE
AC

409342 (XD) 750mL $89.00

TASTING NOTE: Twinkling salmon lights in the glass. Intriguing citrus aromas pour out, backed up by toasty, honeyed tones. The Pinot Noir character really shows through in a rich, opulent style. This rosé Champagne would be delicious with seafood. Drink: 2016-2020. Score: 95 (Michael Edwards, decanter.com, Dec. 6, 2016)

PAUL BARA RÉSERVE BRUT GRAND CRU CHAMPAGNE
AC

633370 (XD) 375mL $39.00

TASTING NOTE: Paul Bara's NV Brut Réserve Grand Cru is a gorgeous wine full of Bouzy intensity in its creamy, inviting personality. Pear, baked apple, smoke, dried flowers and lemon confit give the wine its compelling interplay of brightness and ripe, generous fruit. Deceptively understated, the Brut Réserve offers striking depth, not to mention tons of class. This is a superb NV bottling that is all the more impressive given that it is a blend of the 2011 and 2010 vintages. Disgorged: December 2016. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Drinking window: 2017-2022. Score: 90 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Dec. 2017)

CHÂTEAU DE CABIDOS CUVÉE COMTÉ PHILIPPE PETIT MANSENG DOUX 2011

TASTING NOTE: Aromatic, grapey, lovely tang. Rich creme brulee notes. Nuances of lime and apricot. Score: Gold & Trophy (International Wine Challenge, 2015)

SELBACH-OSTER ZELTINGER SCHLOSSBERG BÖMER RIESLING 2016

VILLA RAIANO ALIMATA FIANO DI AVELLINO 2015
DOCG

631366 (XD) 750mL $36.00

TASTING NOTE: A scintillating overall performance was led by the 2015 Fiano di Avelino, with its exhilarating traction, flavor and grip. It's a deep and layered wine, creamy and gradual, with a refreshing and bright finish. A real Tre Bicchieri. Score: 3 Glasses (out of 3) (Gambero Rosso Italian Wines, 2018)

MARCO FELLUGA CARANTAN COLLIO ROSSO 2010
DOC

631127 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: A gorgeous red now with dark berry, light chocolate and hazelnut character. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Fantastic finish. GAJA SORÌ TILDÌN BARBARESCO 2015
DOCG

705665 (XD) 750mL $810.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn is dense and compact with smoky layers of black fruit, crushed mineral and black truffle. This growing site always produces robust and opulent wines, but these characteristics are hammered home even more so in the hot 2015 vintage. The wine graciously offers enough acidity to achieve balance and remind you of its pedigree. Barbaresco usually opens and evolves faster than Barolo. I think you can count on this wine to reach the start of its drinking window within the next decade. Drink Date: 2020-2040. Score: 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, June 29, 2018)

GAJA CA'MARCANDA MAGARI 2016
DOP Bolgheri

971432 (XD) 750mL $93.00

TASTING NOTE: Black currant and black cherry fruit mingles with mint, olive, graphite and tobacco notes in this red. Elegant, with ample density and bright acidity, ending in a firm, fruit-, mineral- and herb-tinged aftertaste. Well-proportioned and classy. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2020 through 2030. Score: 94 (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, July 31, 2018)

ISOLE E OLENA CEPPARELLO 2015
IGT Toscana

569715 (XD) 1500mL $244.00

This flagship wine is crafted from 100% Sangiovese selected from the estate's best fruit from their vineyards in Barberino Val d'Elsa in northern Chianti Classico. This is a wine made to age and one that will reflect a refined finesse over sheer power (though it has plenty of that, too). One of the defining characteristics of Cepparello has been its marked evolution and continued refinement vintage after vintage. Some of the advancements include allowing the wines to interact with more air during vinification and increasing élevage in oak from 12-14 months to 18-20 months. The 2014 vintage was rated 97 points by Antonio Galloni, who had this to say about the wine: "... Vivid and intense in all of its dimensions, it exudes purity from start to finish ... expressive aromatics and beautifully delineated ..." (vinous.com, Jan. 2018). Galloni gave a drinking window of 2024-2039.

CASTELLO DI AMA L'APPARITA 2014
IGT Toscana

39776 (XD) 750mL $249.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 L'Apparita has the potential to develop into an exquisite wine, although it will be at least a few years before that is evident, and has a level of creaminess and textural depth not found in the other 2014s in the range. But Apparita really needs to be at least 10 years old to start showing well. Drinking Window: 2024-2039. Score: 93+ (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Jan. 2018)

PIEVE SANTA RESTITUTA SUGARILLE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2013
DOCG

626283 (XD) 750mL $260.00

TASTING NOTE: The single-vineyard 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille has a tighter core and a blacker heart compared to the Rennina. This wine is momentarily more difficult to penetrate and comprehend. It makes a more abrupt first impression but then relaxes and reveals more of its character only after it has spent extra time in your company. Then, it becomes suddenly exuberant and loud. This is a dynamic expression of Sangiovese with bold ripe fruit, spice and balsam notes to carry it forward during cellar aging. This vintage offers firmness and strength. Drink Date: 2020-2037. DOCG

419820 (XD) 750mL $100.00

Monica Larner awarded this wine a rating of 92 points and said: "The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sergio Zingarelli is this estate's most ambitious wine. This Gran Selezione is robust and powerfully endowed in terms of its aromatic impact. In contrast, the mouthfeel is more streamlined and fine. This blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino walks a fine line between bulk and finesse. The texture is silky and the wine offers pretty notes of dried cherry, plum and toasted spice on the finish." SOLDERA SANGIOVESE 2013
IGT Toscana

402271 (XD) 750mL $779.00

Gianfranco Soldera is a complicated and even controversial figure, but the bottom line is that his wines are outstanding and he is one of Italy's most influential winemakers. Choosing to label this wine as an IGT rather than as a Brunello di Montalcino may be confusing for some customers, but this is 100% Sangiovese sourced from the iconic Case Basse vineyard, planted in 1972. This remains one of the world's most sought-after wines. It was aged in barrel for 48 months and is the first vintage to be released following the vandalism that saw Soldera lose over 16,500 gallons of ageing wine dating from 2007 to 2012.

RIDOLFI MERCATALE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2012
DOCG

630772 (XD) 750mL $115.00

TASTING NOTE: Truffle, leather, forest floor, pipe tobacco and purple flower aromas all come together in this young, balanced Brunello. The palate is taut and chewy, with a nervous tension that offsets its juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry, licorice and clove flavors. Its fresh acidity and polished tannins promise good aging potential. QUINTA DO CRASTO OLD VINES RESERVA 2015
DOC Douro

294116 (XD) 750mL $39.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Reserva Old Vines is a field blend from old vines (average age: 70 years) aged for 16 to 18 months in 65% new oak (85% French, the rest American), depending on the lots. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This year, Crasto eliminated two southern-exposure plots in the vineyard because they were not fresh enough, and Maria Teresa and Vinha da Ponte lots were eliminated because both produced separate wines this year. This may not be the biggest or most powerful or deepest Old Vines, but it will certainly be considered one of the best. Like the Crasto Superior this issue, it has all the hallmarks of the 2015 vintage - elegance, freshness and big, vivid fruit flavor. Here too, and as with most 2015s, the fruit is never jammy but always well-defined by acidity. This then adds a layer of concentration to the Superior and more caressing texture as well. The finish is longer too. This is a beauty that will be approachable young, but it will hold well - 20 years should not be a problem, while more is easily possible. This still has some upside potential, by the way. You can certainly plunge in now, but it may yet develop more. If it does, it might even be entitled to an uptick. Drink Date: 2018-2037. Score: 94 (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2018)

QUINTA DE PANCAS GRANDE RESERVA 2013
DOC Douro

631838 (XD) 750mL $55.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Grande Reserva (Quinta de Pancas) is a blend of 50% Touriga Nacional, 30% Alicante Bouschet and 20% Petit Verdot, aged for 20 months in new French oak. It comes in at 15% alcohol. This is pretty fine but whether you buy this or the regular Reserva will depend also on your stylistic preferences (and, of course, price sensitivity). The styles are radically different. This, too, has plenty of power, but the very concentrated and very ripe mid-palate gives this a different feel - more luscious, richer and not as hard-edged. The oak gives it more cream and a more one-dimensional demeanor at first, to be sure. Still, as I played with this and let it air out, it seemed increasingly impressive. The finish became tinged with some beefy nuances and the aromatics began to show something besides wood. It seems to handle its alcohol perfectly. This has some things to prove in the cellar. It really needs to be put away for another year or two in order to come together better but it looks potentially brilliant, if you like them big and sexy. Drink Date: 2019-2038. Score: 94 (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Oct. 31, 2017)

JULIA KEMPER RESERVA RED 2011
DOC Dão

634592 (XD) 750mL $40.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2011 Reserva red is a blend of Touriga Nacional 50%, Tinta Roriz 25%, Alfrocheiro 15% and Jaen 10%. It was aged for 16 months in new French oak and comes in at 13.9% alcohol. This is another beauty from Kemper, showing the most depth of this issue's group, the same fine structure and the best fruit, too. Actually, even at this age--it is a late release--it is bursting with flavor and seems only primary. This will likely be released in September 2017. It's so delicious now, you might want to dive in. It will reward those with patience, though. It easily shows its ability to age. It tightens with air, all the while being gorgeously balanced. Sophisticated and intriguing, if this improves notably with cellaring, it may even be entitled to an uptick. This is a great bargain. Drink Date: 2017-2033. Score: 93+ (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Aug. 31, 2017)

TELMO RODRÍGUEZ LANZAGA 2012
DOCa Rioja

107433 (XD) 750mL $39.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2012 Lanzaga shows the character of the year, but comes through as fresher and better balanced than the already impressive 2011. This blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano is sourced from their 14 hectares of organically farmed, head-pruned vineyards in the village of Lanciego. It fermented in 6,000-kilo cement vats with indigenous yeasts, and matured in a combination of 1,500- and 2,500-liter foudres and 225-liter barriques for some 14 months. The nose is elegant, subtle and balanced, with ripe fruit without excess and nicely integrated oak. The palate shows nice concentration and power keeping the poise and elegance, with good balance, fine tannins and moderate acidity. Nice combination of elegance and power. Drink Date: 2016-2022. Score: 93 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Aug. 30, 2016)

CHOBEO DE PECIÑA 2009

GLAETZER AMON-RA SHIRAZ 2015
Barossa Valley

58032 (XD) 750mL $79.00

TASTING NOTE: Winemaker Ben Glaetzer continues to fashion big, bold Barossa Valley Shiraz. The 2015 Amon Ra Shiraz is another in a long line of muscular wines that manage to offer complexity, power and a surprising degree of elegance. Charred beef, black olives and espresso notes meet blackberries and cassis on the nose and palate, delivering near-tidal waves of flavor and personality. Full-bodied, intense and velvety, it should age well for at least a decade, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it still drinking well past 2030 (assuming proper cellaring, of course). Drink: 2018-2035. Score: 95 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Aug. 31, 2018)

TWO HANDS DAVE'S BLOCK SINGLE VINEYARD SHIRAZ 2015
Blythmans Road, Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale, South Australia

630434 (XD) 750mL $105.00

TASTING NOTE: Incredibly expansive, starting with a pure note of black cherry flavors, building momentum as details of Earl Grey tea, sandalwood, anise and dark chocolate grow. Velvety tannins provide a terrific backbone for the flavors as they linger. Drink now through 2030. Score: 95 (MaryAnn Worobiec, winespectator.com, July 31, 2017)

TWO HANDS WAZZA'S BLOCK SINGLE VINEYARD SHIRAZ 2015
Seppeltsfield Road, Barossa Valley, South Australia

630426 (XD) 750mL $105.00

TASTING NOTE: Speaks with clarity about the Seppeltsfield terroir, an immensely attractive, savoury/spicy character that permeates the black fruits, rolling on and on like peals of thunder. An outstanding wine with a great future. Drink By: 2045. Score: 97 (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 1, 2017)

TERRE À TERRE CRAYÈRES VINEYARD SHIRAZ 2014
Wrattonbully, South Australia

633321 (XD) 750mL $37.00

TASTING NOTE: Hand-picked, crushed, destemmed, 24 days fermentation and maceration, matured in French barriques (70% new) for 12 months, then transferred to a 5yo 4000l French foudre for a further 6 months, 9% '14 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from the Crayeres Vineyard added. The immediate energy and drive the wine has lifts it out of the ruck, extending the length of the palate and allowing the undeniably complex black fruits full airplay. This is a classy wine, period, full stop. Drink By: 2034. Score: 96 (winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 11, 2016)

TASTING NOTE: The freshness and intensity of the palate led to the trophy for Best Chardonnay at the Sydney Wine Show '17. Winemaker Cliff Royle picked the amount of new oak, and the time the wine spent in oak, to perfection, placing maximum focus on the perfectly ripe flavours. Drink By: 2029. TOKARA DIRECTOR'S RESERVE WHITE 2015
WO Stellenbosch

632273 (XD) 750mL $48.00

Platter's awarded this wine 5/5 stars, calling it an "... elegantly balanced sauvignon, semillon duo." (Platter's South African Wine Guide, 2018)

TASTING NOTE: This accomplished, barrel-fermented cuvée of Sauvignon Blanc with 29% Semillon is like a Cape Domaine de Chevalier, but at a significantly cheaper price. Savoury, smoky and pithy, with pink grapefruit and lemon zest flavours and aromatic vanilla spice. Drink Date: 2017-2023. Score: 95 (Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, South Africa Special Report 2017)

CASARENA OWEN'S VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2015
Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza

578062 (XD) 750mL $46.00

TASTING NOTE: Tasted side by side with the 2014, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Owen's Vineyard feels a lot fresher. This is an old, balanced, traditional vineyard that yields wines with very good depth and natural balance. There is perfect ripeness here and a notable absence of those green pepper aromas that often mask the personality of many Cabernets. These old vines yield very concentrated juice and it shows in the tannins and acidity, which show in perfect harmony. Drink Date: 2016-2020. Score: 94 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

CATENA ZAPATA NICOLÁS CABERNET SAUVIGNON/MALBEC 2014
Uco Valley, Mendoza

510958 (XD) 750mL $123.00

TASTING NOTE: Named after the winery's owner, the 2014 Nicolás Catena Zapata is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec that has been produced since 1997. They use grapes from Nicasia, Adrianna and La Pirámide vineyards, mixing grapes from Valle de Uco and Luján de Cuyo. The blend varies slightly with the year, and in 2014 it is 73% Cabernet and 27% Malbec. It fermented in 225- and 500-liter oak barrels and saw 24 months in barrique. It has developed aromas and feels polished while showing elegance and very classical proportions. 62,400 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2016. Drink Date: 2018-2023. Score: 95 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, June 29, 2018)

SALENTEIN SAN PABLO SINGLE VINEYARD MALBEC 2014
Mendoza

574038 (XD) 750mL $55.00

TASTING NOTE: There is also a 2014 Single Vineyard Malbec San Pablo from their estate vineyard there, from the plot 14 to be precise, located at 1,480 meters altitude, a very cold place with sandy soils and limestone quite deep down that tends to produce floral and fresh wines, like this one, even though it was cropped from a somehow warm vintage. The wine is also powerful at 15% alcohol, keeping some six grams of acidity and coming through a little oaky as it fermented in brand new 225-liter French barriques where it underwent malolactic and 16 months élevage. This is a smaller lot and the oak is more noticeable, and it should show better after some more time in the bottle. But there is great intensity of flavors in the palate, it's a wilder expression of the grape, in a place that is extreme, a mixture of violets, graphite and Mediterranean herbs, spices with an exotic touch. Give it some time in bottle. Only 1,500 bottles were produced. It was bottled in one single lot in October 2015. Drink Date: 2017-2022. Score: 92+ (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)

VIÑA COBOS BRAMARE REBON VINEYARD MALBEC 2014

480392 (XD) 750mL $120.00

TASTING NOTE: Exuberant and well-sculpted flavors of raspberry, red plum and currant are supported by suave tannins. Offers hints of white pepper on the richly spiced finish, with luscious dark chocolate accents. Drink now through 2023. Score: 94 (Kim Marcus, winespectator.com, Nov. 30, 2017)

NEYEN ESPÍRITU DE APALTA 2015
DO Colchagua Valley

255976 (XD) 750mL $60.00

TASTING NOTE: This is crazy with mushrooms, black truffle, blackberries and hot stone. Old-vine magic. Full body, dense and so polished with integrated and melted tannins. Greatness and respect. A blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon and 45% carmenere. Made from organically grown grapes. 120-year-old cabernet and 70-year-old carmenere. Amazing. Drink or hold. Score: 98 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, March 16, 2018)

SCRIBE CARNEROS PINOT NOIR 2016
Carneros

511154 (XD) 750mL $67.00

The Mariani brothers, Andrew and Adam, founded Scribe in 2007 with an eye toward producing terroir-driven wines crafted with minimal intervention. This Pinot from Carneros is given the same level of attention to detail as their Estate Pinot. It's made with indigenous yeast and fermented in concrete or steel to preserve the grape's most delicate aromatic characteristics, then aged in neutral oak for six months. Expect a high-toned, soft, evocative wine with great balance, ripe fruit and earth tones. This wine is almost entirely allocated to the Scribe Viticultural Society (a.k.a. SVS), which is the official name for the Scribe wine club. This is a rare find.

THREE STICKS PFV PINOT NOIR 2016
Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County

610519 (XD) 750mL $62.00

TASTING NOTE: Very complete, if tannic, this offers complex flavors of smoke, dried berry, anise and sage, with tannins laced with gravelly earth notes. Drink now through 2022. Score: 90 (James Laube, winespectator.com, July 31, 2018)

TWOMEY ANDERSON VALLEY PINOT NOIR 2016
Anderson Valley, Mendocino County

308916 (XD) 750mL $84.00

Throughout their winemaking process, Twomey strives to have as little influence on the final wine as possible to encourage the emergence of each vintage's true provenance. To further this aim, they hand-sort their grapes, employ indigenous yeasts and move the wine through the winery with gravity rather than pumps. They ferment each lot separately before blending and careful ageing in French oak. This is a wine that will evolve for up to 10 years from harvest.

ADOBE ROAD BECKSTOFFER GEORGES III VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
Napa Valley

634147 (XD) 750mL $222.00

TASTING NOTE: Tames intense tannins with an overlay of creamy, mocha-scented oak. The core is deep, rich and concentrated, featuring dark berry, currant, plum and cassis flavors. Sails along on the finish, even with the tannins. Best from 2021 through 2034. Score: 94 (James Laube, winespectator.com, April 30, 2018)

KLINKER BRICK OLD GHOST ZINFANDEL 2014
Lodi

633313 (XD) 750mL $65.00

TASTING NOTE: While quite ripe and fruity, this wine is also dry, nicely tannic and firmly textured, so it will pair beautifully with rich proteins. Aged 18 months in oak, mostly French, it has concentrated dark fruit aromas, and a layered array of flavors that recalls blueberry, dark chocolate and blackberry syrup. Bright acidity keeps everything in balance. Score: 92 (Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast, Aug. 1, 2017)

TWOMEY MERLOT 2014
Napa Valley

14043 (XD) 750mL $100.00

Twomey sources the grapes for their Merlot from their Soda Canyon Ranch, which is situated on volcanic soils in the southern part of the Napa Valley. This part of Napa experiences early morning fogs, which helps preserve freshness and drive as rich dark fruit flavours evolve. During the ageing process, the wine is racked from barrel to barrel in the classic Bordeaux technique known as soutirage traditionnel. This process helps round out the tannins in the wine, producing Twomey's characteristic softness and richness while also elevating the wine's aromatic character.

DELECTUS BOULDER FALLS CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Knights Valley, Sonoma County

631291 (XD) 750mL $160.00

TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Boulder Falls is another painfully extracted, rich, full-bodied wine with enormous extract, massive body and richness in a wine seemingly built for 30 or more years of cellaring. Impatient connoisseurs and consumers not willing to defer gratification should steer far clear of this blockbuster, which really requires a decade of cellaring. Kudos to Delectus for making wines that ultimately will prove the magnificent aging potential of what they're doing in Knights Valley. Drink Date: 2026-2046. Score: 95+ (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, March 3, 2016)

FLYING GOAT CELLARS RIO VISTA VINEYARD DIJON PINOT NOIR 2013
Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County

633842 (XD) 750mL $66.00

TASTING NOTE: A full array of chaparral aromas arise prominently on this bottling, with thyme and sagebrush spicing up the smoke, earth, crushed slate and dark-cherry scents. The palate zings with snappy black-raspberry fruit, a great counterpoint to the savory shrubbiness that reflects the nose, with more wild herbs and eucalyptus notes. Quite a full experience. Score: 95 (Matt Kettman, Wine Enthusiast, Nov. 1, 2017)

PELLET ESTATE PELLET VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Napa Valley

472001 (XD) 750mL $148.00

TASTING NOTE: This single-vineyard estate wine is made by Nils Venge and Tom Rinaldi, who have somehow managed to capture quiet elegance and powerful fruit at the same time. Red-fruit driven, it's round and rich, with moderate tannin and cassis, clove and black pepper highlights. Editors' Choice. Score: 94 (Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, July 1, 2017)

TWOMEY SAUVIGNON BLANC 2017
Napa County/Sonoma County

458695 (XD) 750mL $47.00

This is sourced from four vineyards, two in Napa County (Twomey Calistoga Estate Vineyard and the Oakville Estate Vineyard) and two in Sonoma County (Merino Estate Vineyard and Twomey Healdsburg Estate Vineyard). The grapes are selected to reflect the best of each vineyard - the Napa grapes bring intensity and tropical flavours while the Sonoma grapes impart zest and minerality - and are fermented separately to preserve each site's unique stamp. The final blend delivers a complex, balanced Sauvignon Blanc with great breadth, refinement and versatility.

THREE STICKS DURELL VINEYARD CHARDONNAY 2016
Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County

397851 (XD) 750mL $70.00

The Durell Vineyard is ranked by many as being one of the top five vineyards in Sonoma County. Its position in the southwestern hills of Sonoma Valley allows it to traverse three AVAs: Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Coast and Carneros. The volcanic soils of the site introduce a renowned minerality to the wines. The Three Sticks Chardonnay will be a classically styled wine with a plush texture, complex sweet fruit and spice and a crisp, long profile.

PEAKE RANCH SIERRA MADRE VINEYARD CHARDONNAY 2015
Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara County

636738 (XD) 750mL $79.00

TASTING NOTE: From [a] cool site in the Santa Maria Valley and a barrel selection made in the cellar, the 2015 Chardonnay Sierra Madre Vineyard is a stunning, hedonistic, pedal-to-the-metal beauty that offers tons of stone fruits, buttered citrus, crushed rocks and honeysuckle aromas and flavors. Big, rich, layered and decadent, with a killer finish, it's a sensational Chardonnay that will compete with the best out there. Like the other cuvées, it's made in tiny quantities and there's just 326 cases out there. Score: 97 (Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, Aug. 2, 2017)

SCRIBE CARNEROS CHARDONNAY 2015
Carneros

511139 (XD) 750mL $52.00

Founded in 2007, Scribe is dedicated to the crafting of small lots of terroir-driven wines. This Chardonnay was first produced in 2007 and is grown in the cool Carneros region. The area provides a long, slow ripening period that allows the grapes to develop both fresh acidity and ripe, lush fruit flavour. Brothers Andrew and Adam Mariani are fourth-generation farmers and employ minimalist winemaking in an effort to best encourage wines of purity and precision.

CHATEAU STE. MICHELLE ETHOS RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013
Columbia Valley

209866 (XD) 750mL $68.00

TASTING NOTE: One of the standouts in the lineup is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Ethos Reserve, which comes from a number of sites in the Columbia valley and incorporates 10% Merlot. Aged in 53% new French and American oak, this full-bodied, rich, unctuously textured and concentrated Cabernet is loaded with notions of currants, blueberries, smoked herbs, and licorice. Possessing low acidity, a plump, sexy profile and no hard edges, it can be enjoyed anytime over the coming decade. Drink Date: 2016-2026. Score: 93 (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, June 29, 2016)

TASTING NOTE: Sandeman is a regular Decanter World Wine Awards Gold - and Trophy - winner for its supremely refined tawnies. This has lovely lifted aromas and flavours of chocolate-covered sultanas and orange peel. Seductive and creamy with perfect poise for its age. Score: 96 (Richard Mayson, decanter.com, April 17, 2015)

ALVEAR PEDRO XIMÉNEZ SACRISTÍA DE AÑADA 2004
DO Montilla-Moriles

631374 (S) 375mL $34.00

TASTING NOTE: The decadently sweet, single vintage 2004 Pedro Ximenez de Anada reveals off-the-chart honeyed richness along with hints of caramel and marmalade. This dark amber-colored wine possesses plenty of fresh fruit characteristics. It is best served as dessert. Importer Jorge Ordonez has begun to offer single vintage finos, aged two years in traditional American oak botas (500 liters), so consumers have an opportunity to understand how zesty a fino can be. Score: 96 (Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com, Aug. 27, 2006)

HIGHLAND PARK 25-YEAR-OLD ORKNEY ISLANDS SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

500249 750mL $900.00

TASTING NOTE: I am a relieved man: the finest HP 25 for a number of years which displays the distillery's unmistakable fingerprints with a pride bordering on arrogance. One of the most improved bottlings of the year: an emperor of a dram. Score: 96 (Jim Murray, Whisky Bible, 2018)
