Bordeaux
SÉGLA 2004
AC Margaux, 2nd Wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla
You've got to hand it to him, your dad's a classic. Why not get him something that reflects his classic style? The wines of Margaux in Bordeaux are considered 'the most celebrated red wines in the world' and this selection from the makers of Château Rauzan-Ségla is worthy of celebrating a great father.
TASTING NOTE: ... The tannins are a little chewy, but come with an abundance of black fruits and a lovely structure that holds on tight for a good while. Owned by Chanel as of 1994, and run by the very talented John Kolasa, this is excellent value for the quality, and for the attention to detail that goes into the winemaking.

THE ARRAN MALT MADEIRA WINE CASK ARRAN ISLAND SINGLE MALT
Limited Edition Bottling
(Isle of Arran Distillers)
Your dad's an original so he deserves a gift that's unique. This single malt stands out from the crowd because it is finished in barrels that once held sweet Madeira wine. Perfect for the Scotch connoisseur who thinks he has everything.
TASTING NOTE: ... Rich and winey on the nose, with stewed fruits, notably plums and prunes. Water releases slightly smoky, orange and other citrus notes. Full-bodied, somewhat oily, with malt, Christmas cake and powerful, sweet spices. The addition of water adds a creamy fudge quality. The finish is medium in length, determinedly spicy, with orange marmalade and a touch of salty caramel.
Score - 3 Stars (out of 5).

SPEYBURN 10 YEARS OLD HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT
This Father's Day let dad relax and put his feet up. This terrific whisky, served with a spot of filtered water or on the rocks, is the perfect sipper at the end of a long summer's day.
TASTING NOTE: Deep golden amber color. Honeyed nuts, cinnamon, ginger, allspice and peat aromas are intriguing. A supple entry leads to a dry-yet-fruity medium-full body exotic dried fruit, melted chocolate, caramel, candied ginger, and pink peppercorns. Finishes with a spicy sweet fade with roasted grain and wet slate accents. A gutsy and peppery single malt to experiment with in cocktails. (Highly Recommended)

CAPARZO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2003
DOCG
A gift that is sure to inspire sibling rivalry (dad always did like you best), this impressive Brunello will make a proud addition to your pop's cellar.
TASTING NOTE: The heat of the vintage seems to have filled out the 2003 Brunello di Montalcino very nicely. A sumptuous, beautiful wine, it offers layers of vibrant, ripe fruit intermingled with sweet toasted oak, revealing superb inner tension, poise and balance. The tannins are firm, but well-integrated. This wine shut down quickly in the glass but it was impressive both times I tasted it. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018.

SABOR REAL VIÑAS CENTENARIAS TEMPRANILLO 2005
DO Toro
Surprise your wine-loving dad with something he definitely won't have in his cellar: an age-worthy Tempranillo from 100-year-old vines, from the up-and-coming Toro region.
TASTING NOTE: The 2005 Vinas Centenarias, as the name implies, comes from vines over 100 years of age. Purple-colored, it offers up a complex perfume of pain grille, violets, mineral, spice box, black cherry and blackberry. Bigger, richer, and more sweetly-fruited than its younger colleague, it would benefit from 2-3 years of additional cellaring. Balanced, lengthy, and altogether hedonistic, it should drink well through 2015.
Score - 91.
