MALETA WINERY
Maleta’s winemaking team of Arthur
Harder (left) and his assistant Michael
Kormar bring together quite distinct
industry experiences. Harder travelled
abroad, receiving his education and work
experience primarily in Germany. Michael
gained his experience in Ontario, recently
graduating from the Viticultural program
at Niagara College. Despite their different
backgrounds, they share a common
philosophy – wine is fun and something
to be enjoyed. That doesn’t mean their
wines are not being taken seriously;
one of their wines was named best overall
at the 2007 Ontario
Wine Awards.
“I grew up in Niagara
farmland, so walking
through a vineyard
is natural for me.
It’s home.”
Keeping it fun and light, while still making great wine is part of the winemaking philosophy at Maleta. Their Cab/Merlot blend has flavours of upfront cherry with hints of fresh herb and leather, followed by soft tannins and a supple finish. Try a glass on its own while you whip up a quick dinner of gourmet sausages with a fresh garden salad.
