Two flavourful, fruit-driven wines
ZONTE’S FOOTSTEP CHOCOLATE FACTORY SHIRAZ 2015
McLaren Vale, South Australia
396481 (XD) 750 mL $18.95
TASTING NOTE: You might expect it to be loaded with chocolatey oak but the truth is that it’s a fruit-driven red. It runs a line of cocoa-like flavour but really it’s more about blackberry and plum flavours, served in sizeable portion. It’s a big wine for lovers of big reds, though at no time does it feel unruly or too over-the-top. Peppermint, clove and floral-like characters help to pretty things up, but that warm ooze of blackberried flavour is the wine’s thing. Drink: 2017-2021+.

Full-bodied & Smooth
TIEFENBRUNNER PINOT GRIGIO 2015
IGT Vigneti delle Dolomiti, Alto Adige/Trentino, Italy
474742 (XD) 750 mL $19.95
TASTING NOTE: A terrific vintage for Tiefenbrunner’s region-leading pinot grigio, this 2015 is full, very ripe and succulent, comfortably in the orchard/pitted fruit spectrum, quite oily and satisfying without heaviness. Very good to excellent length, with lovely suave texture. Far superior to the mean.
